Cant you just flash stock jf6 or did your phone.come with kb2?
Sent from my SAMSUNG-SGH-I897 using xda premium

I don't know of an Odin version of KB2.

http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1266172

Phone originally came with kb2 and flashing older than that gives bootloops.

Really? Bootloops going from KB2 to JF6?
My current Cappy refurb came with KB2 and I started with flashing it to JF6.
I understand your frustration. Heimdall is a great program but its usage breaks the drivers used in ODIN flashes in favor of the Heimdall configured drivers.
I once used the Heimdall KB2 package to flash to stock 2.2 just to see if it would work. After the install worked (brilliantly, I might add) I had to uninstall the Heimdall driver and reinstall the former Samsung driver for my Captivate to recognized properly for further ODIN usage.
My warranty is pretty much done now so I won't be worrying about a KB2 flash anymore. Is this why you want to flash KB2 - - warranty return?

Yeah warranty return. The us port is hit or miss but i know odin works because i flashed stock kh3 but i can never seem to get heimdall to recognise my phone

You are installing the heimdall driver right?

Yeah im uninstalling Samsung drivers and installing the heimdall one

[Q]KIES MINI not updating phone

I'm trying to update to official 2.2 to return the phone to warranty but its not updating. The progress bar gets to about 3/4 of the way then it says the upgrade could not be completed. Anyone know why?

did you get the phone with stock 2.2? If not I would just flash back to stock jf6 as that erases any trace of custom ROMs (from what I've read).. and even if the phone came with 2.2 it may not matter if they get it back and it's 2.1. Beats me, just a thought.

They don't keep track of what version the phone was on when it was sent. Simply use Odin3 one clck downloader and it will clear everything that would void your waranty.

[Q] Need help - Screwed up my phone

Hi, I got a new captivate today, which had 2.2 pre-installed and tried rooting it. Tried a few update.zips to root it, but it wouldn't root it, due to the e-signature error. Using the AIO Captivate toolbox, I tried flashing the 2.1 JF6 stock, so that I could root and install Froyo ROM's. I'm pretty sure the 2.1 JF6 stock flash went fine, but my phone refuses to boot in. It just shows the AT&T screen and restarts and continues this loop.
Can anyone please suggest what I could do to fix this ? I'm trying to get this into download mode and I have the jig. But, after getting it into download mode, what should I do next? Is there a way I can install the stock 2.2 that came pre-installed with the phone ?
Try this

Thanks will try that. But just wanted to be clear that I got a latest captivate which came pre-installed with 2.2. Is it still fine to flash 2.1 ? I guess I bricked the device trying to flash 2.1 JH6 on it
I believe you should be fine

Thanks. I have the jig, but strangely I'm not able to get into download mode too. I tried removing the sim and the battery and reinserting back, with the usb cable plugged it, but it refuses to get into download mode. Any suggestions ?
Try the jig
Sent from my GT-I9000 using XDA Premium App
Sounds like a build 1010 captivate..
...The jig is the only way that you can get back to DL mode if it is. look at the sticker under the battery and see if it is a build 1010, if it is you won't be able to go back to JF6, you'll have to use the full Odin and go back to JH2 first then root with update.zip then CWM flash the JH7 .zip file that you can find in the dev forum posted by Designgears I believe or you can just use kies mini to go back to stock 2.2 after you flash JH2.
Yea I'm trying the jig, but strangely it doesn't work

The one click killed your button combo, happens to some. Your going to need a working jig. You can make one yourself using a $.99 resistor pack from radio shack

OK will try that tomorrow maybe
But, just for the sake of knowledge, where can I find an update.zip that can root stock 2.2 on newer captivates ? I tried all almost 3-4 of them from this forum, but strangely none of them worked. It was my inability to root stock 2.2, that made me try getting to 2.1 JF6 using one-click.
Consensus is super one click
Sent from my GT-I9000 using XDA Premium App
Super one click to root stock froyo. That's it. Unless you wanna odin speedmod boot into recovery and apply root that way. By then you would need to flash another modem.

Going back to 2.1

I need to send my captivate back to AT&T for service and need to revert back to stock. I have the o-din 1 click handy however I did install the AT&T GB Bootloader. I am not sure if I can just use odin 1click to go back to Eclair.
Edit: NVM, figured it out after searching another 10 pages that I can go back using 1 click.
Yes. U can use the 1click Odin to go back to stock Eclair.

No need since I don't have UAC turned on. I never had to run as administrator on my W7 x64 Pro.
Just to clarify, Odin 1-Click will revert everything back to stock, even bootloaders? Even if I have different bootloaders installed? Are there any precautions to look at before using it?

yes odin 1-click to stock will make it like u never flashed a ROM, just dont use the 3button fix first. that contains only the secondary bootloader and will brick when used with a GB primary.

Thanks a lot for not giving me crap about this. I've been on and off a lot. work gets in the way and I've missed so much.

Upgrading from 2.1 Eclair

Long story short...I screwed up a ROM install, and am now back to 2.1 with a rooted phone that is not recognized by Kies.
Is there an easier way to upgrade, and get back to Serendipity7, without messing with terminal emulators and trying to get original EIM number in the right folder?
TIA
Sent from my SAMSUNG-SGH-I897 using XDA App
Yup
Use Odin, which i believe everything you need is linked in the instructions for flashing serendipity.
Wahoo! Thank you sir.

Ugh, I got a problem..

I'm a big noob in this community. Well, yesterday I flashed a custom rom and got my captive in a loop. No biggie. I flashed it back to stock and now running elcair 2.1. I've tried hooking it up to lies mini but it seems two drivers fail to install correctly everytime. Downloaded the drivers from Samsung and other places. Contacted Samsung through live chat (never again). Ive tried factory resetting. I also need to mention I can't go into download mode or recovery. I need the 3 button mod but I've read that rom manager doesn't support eclair. Am I screwed and stuck on this firmware?
Sent from my SAMSUNG-SGH-I897 using xda app-developers app
First, forget Rom Manager. It has almost nothing for the Captivate. Second, check out my signature for an ADB Utility to help you get into download/recovery. Also, you may want to completely uninstall the drivers for the captivate, reboot, and then reinstall them again before plugging your phone back in.
ADB utility would help me go into download mode?
Sent from my SAMSUNG-SGH-I897 using xda app-developers app
If the drivers are working correctly, yes.

My drivers ARENT working correctly. I dont know what seems to b e the problem.
As Red_81 mentioned, if you can't get into download or recovery mode, try using ADB to force it to get there. You can get it with the utility in Red_81's signature. Once you have the phone hooked up and ADB installed, just open a command prompt, navigate to where you have ADB installed, and type "adb reboot download" or "adb reboot recovery".
If the Samsung drivers aren't cutting it for you, you might want to try flashing a stock Gingerbread ROM (with bootloaders) from Heimdall. Heimdall will install its own USB driver (lib-usb), which might bypass your issue.
If you're still having driver issues, take a look at the "Captivate Connection Issues" thread in my signature. At least one of those solutions should (hopefully) work for you.
I used Odin to flash back. Would it be easier if I used a jig?

i too am a noob. ive gotten back to 2.1 and i can get into download via adb but odin does not see my phone after adb reboot download. any ideas?
