[Q] My first flash, advice please - LG Optimus 2x

Post
Hi,
This is my first time flashing a custom rom onto my Optimus 2X. I have decided on the latest Miui as it seems to be fast, stable and looks awesome.
I was hoping some lovely people could give me some advice to help my first flash go well.
I have created a backup through CWR of my current stock ROM. I have also backed up all my apps through titanium backup.
I was wondering what the best baseband and RIL is best suited to the Miui ROMs? And also do I need to covert to ext4 or will be ROM do this for me?
Once iv done this is there anything else I should do to prepare my phone for Miui?
Thank you for any advice you can give me!!
Sedge.

I usually flash a stock Rom via smarflash in order to have a cleaner phone. You also have to calibrate your battery after changing Rom, trough some specific apps that you can find easly gratis on the market. For the bb i have never had problems on MIUI, they all worked for me.

I'm on the latest MIUI too on BB725. Works fine here. I'm thinking MIUI supports ext3 and ext4 partitions and don't make changes to what you already have. I've been jumping through roms and don't see anything that says MIUI is converting my partitions.
MIUI's base is cm7 so you might want to consider running the latest cm7 stable (or nightly if you feel adventurous) for o2x.
I'm still a bit biased on stock roms since they're release from the vendors so they'd likely get all the features you want due to closed-sourced 3rd party drivers. There are a lot of good roms based on stock souce here http://forum.xda-developers.com/forumdisplay.php?f=1002. Consider giving em a spin.
If you're just after the MIUI look, check these launchers:

I have installed CM 7.1 and it all seems fine apart from my battery icon is saying i have a almost full battery when i know when i started the flash it was around 30%.
Shall I let the battery run all the way down and then charge to full and then re calibrate my battery. Will this solve my problem?
thanks James

[Q][POLL]The best Custom Gingerbread JVR ROM?

There are dozens of ROM for JVR and I can't try them all, so for those of you who have, what is the best, most stable, fastest, good wifi range, great battery life ROMs out there? Any help will be appreciated
Donno much, still nu 2 flashing Roms. But have tried SURFACE with Paulgiddy theme. Worked perfectly for 3 days then FC started appearing every 3 seconds. Donno if the problem is with Rom or of theme (or some other).
Y dont you put up a poll for it? Should be useful.....
Thanks for the tip!

i fear, nobody can try and compare them all ... in order to answer your Q properly.
after getting all kind of FC's and sudden reboots with "Juwes v5.1" and "F1 Galaxy SII v6" i changed to Criskelo Ginger v77 and am now using v79.
The theme is somehow strange and has some bugs, but in general my phone is running fine without FC's and sudden reboots.
i deleted some of the Samsung files, changed the dialer and changed to Semaphore 1.5 kernel.
I'm not completely convinced that this is the best ROM, but i hope there will be some further development at least to address some bugs.
I don't like to wipe and install all my apps again and again and again ....
I would have to say tornado and ive been flashing roms for awhile now and it's the best one ive come across. Stable and super fast.

What about Juwe Rom?? Seems to be leading in your poll by quite some margin...
Juwe 5.3 for me is the best jvr rom i've tried so far. I had some lag caused by Android system closing my launcher (AWD) with heavy memory usage but this problem happened to me with ALL jvr rom (also the stock one). No problems with stock launcher (Touchwiz 4.0)

[ROM] DUAL Roms (GR-5+MIUI-1.12.9 & GR-5+CM-204 both by ChinaGB) at Modaco

Found a great ROM totally based on a new concept of DUAL ROM. Both GR5 by Paul & MIUI12.2 bundled together by "ChinaGB". I have flashed this ROM today and its working well since last few hours. If interested you may try the ROM at link below. Screenshots also available there at Modaco.
http://android.modaco.com/topic/349332-gr5miui1202-double-system/
All credit goes to ChinaGB for bundling the ROMs. Thanks to him. I have only posted the link as the concept is great to me.
11.12.2011: Subsequently another DUAL ROM developed by ChinaGB again with GR5+CM-204. Link attached. Downloading. Will flash in free time.
original link : http://115.com/file/bhk2amyj/
link provided by s.don : http://db.tt/ATEV950e/
great going.
Thanks to ChinaGB for the ROMs & S.don for providing the link.
Edit: Actually both the ROMs are bundled by ChinaGb. S.Don only provided the link like me.

any tutorial? or any specific flashing procedure? wipes? can you guide please? As i read the Modaco thread, there are some functions not working...what are those?
Thanks Partha...
No special tutorial needed. FULL WIPE needed, i.e., wipe data, cache, dalvik. Run CONVERT TO EXT3 by Paul and lastly flash. ROM will boot into GR5. Dont skip initial android screen. RONs can be changed by tapping dedicated icons. Lastly till now I have not found anuthing not working. Using MIUI at present. Only thing is battery seems to be draining faster than Topo's ROM & SPICA kernel. But nothing wrong in trying its an unique experience. Apps installed in one ROM shows up in other.

Partha, Thanks for the information. But, what about the free RAM? HD Video, BT, Wifi, 3G mobile data, etc?
How long is the battery after a charge?
BTW, I just downloaded tht...waiting for your answer....
Thanks once again
how will you install the available tweaks in each type of the rom? it will surely get into bootloop, afaik..
BT wifi working. 3g i cannot check. RAM is more than 100mb and UI is fluid. I have mostly used the MIUI part but I think v20l will also be stable. Battery is one point which I am still testing.
Regarding tweaks as pointed out by Helldroid nothing can be done. Both the ROM uses different kernels. MIUI uses swiftextreme and v20l uses probably default with tweaks like support for voodoo. RIL is also different for both ROMs and only customisation i have done is flashed RIL in MIUI part.
Thanks

I haven't calibrated my battery. You try and advise us if successful. I think try the MIUI side first because MIUI seems to be draining faster than v20l. BTW you can download ONLY 1.2MB updater in the Modaco site and flash it (I flashed it after wiping Cache/dalvik cache) to update your MIUI version to latest 12.9. Very Simple. I Liked the way of updating. BTW while flashng the update I first booted to MIUI ROM and then booted to CWM from MIUI ROM so that after flashing it boots to MIUI. Don't know if flashing from the v20L side would do any harm but I thought it safer to go by MIUI side since its a MIUI update.
I have applied the fr version changes to the rom for miui part so i think i wont be able to update the ota method . but i will try...
anyway there's currently a fr version being cooked with a customized miui

does anyone know how to change gr5 to cm7 in this rom and if it is possible?

Best Rom for Optimus Black; Discussions & Opinions

Hi just trying to get a clearer picture here, what would be the best/most stable rom for the OB? What is the most commonly used rom for OB? And does installing another rom screw up stock camera functions cos I do like the stock camera functions and capabilities.....
Thanks
Sent from my LG-P970 using xda premium
There's basically three custom roms : NOVArom, PAY's rom and Cyanogenmod rom; and stock 2.2a/b/v/d... and leaked stock 2.3a
So, out of all these, the most stable, most battery friendly, most hard functioning rom with overclocking feature is NOVA rom v8. But only downside is it's froyo.
Now, if you want a highly advanced rom with countless possibilities of customizations; but can handle a few known audio and video bugs, the go for Cyanogenmod nightly.
Personally i am on Cyanogenmod kang by redy2006, and nova kernel. Audio bug is almost negligible for me, but 720p hd recording is not that much good here.
Pick what meets your need..
How much different would froyo on Nova rom be as opposed to stock gb I mean not in bits and bytes but overall user experience...
Cm audio bug what happens exactly? (skip, stutter etc)
Don't really care for 720video tho (hardly capture video but use alot of camera tho)
Basically I just wanna make my device perform at its peak and want it to be speedy and reliably stable (have alot of snap mins where I have to access my tools instantly)
Thanks in advance....
Sent from my LG-P970 using xda premium
Oh it just bugs the hell out of me that my device could be much snappier & stable but currently capped and cluttered by useless stuff provided by carrier.... :/
Sent from my LG-P970 using xda premium
Well, you can root it and remove a lot of those stock apps. I've removed about 35 apps, and none of those were from my carrier. Makes the phone a bit snappier, but the camera is and has always been rediciolusly slow. from i press the button to the processed image appears, it takes like 30 sec or something, dunno why, using V10e. Haven't tried NOVA or CM yet...
I thought abt doing that, but I've read somewhere that if I delete stock included apps from stock rom it might screw the os (much like if uninstall progs from windows )
Truth?

+1 great room
CM is indeed great, but it is still in nightlies.
i prefer a full working stable ROM and thus i use NOVA v8. it is stable even with 1.3 Ghz O/C with my black(i would sugghest NOT to try this...very few of the blacks can actually be stable at 1.3, most of them max out at 1.2,1.25 Ghz)...the conclusion is u can stay stock(almost) but with various tweaks which will get the best out of your black...
but what is good for you is for u to decide. like, few days ago, i thought of getting a total ICS overhaul of my black. so, i installed a CM7 nightly amd tweaked it to my hearts content. ICS wallpapes,ICS theme, animations,Lockscreen,Music, even the ICS outlines SWYPE!!!...used it for a few days, got bored and flashed back the NOVA backup.
try the ROMs available, use it for some days to get a "backup-able" stable image and then switch over from one to another.
i have a CWM backup f NOVA8, stock10g and the CM#20 nightly builds....and each of them are stable, has my applications installed
hope i helped
As soon as CM7 or CM9 for that matter is released as stable, i'll switch to it right away, no matter which official version LG can offer. I'm so jealous of all the cool available mods/themes for CM. For me using them on stock rom, it's a whole lot of work, and will only partially apply. LG roms seems so sensitive to changes as well, probably due to their implementation of OEM bloatware into Android roms. And don't you guys hate all the use of blue/cyan colors all over the menus, windows, buttons etc? It's so butt ugly, especially the speech bubbles in the default sms app...

i have most of these craps deleted. feels SOOO childish!!!!...u cannot expect 2 have such colorful and weirdly "girly" kind of UI on such a mature and sleek looking hardware....i even deleted the lg msg, dialer, home, gallery, bla bla bla and went in for a complete GO!(launcher, locker, dialer, contacts, widgets, etc etc) for my black. now i have a "blackish-blue" kind of galactic theme for most of the GO!offerings and my cell looks to be dressed to kill

I think that the customized stock roms is better than the stock rom, because there is alot of fixes that makes the experience more pleasing. I tried this one for a couple of weeks ago and i was very satisfied with how it worked.
Same here, using this rebuild V20Q + the tweak pack with FD off and probably the best one i've tried so far, battery consumption is very low.
The only thing i dislike is the battery mod, I prefer the stock battery icon. But it's just a detail...
Oh yes, and why are the devs making these roms keeping fsecure software inside, who use it? I had to uninstal it with TI
It sits there, in your ram, and does not do anything anyway until it is activated with a paid licence, useless.
thanks for your help guys, installed it and will try for at least a week.

Modaco-Roms were best at Froyo-Times.
In GB-Times i tried several Roms, but after it all i must say Stock 20q with Spica SR2 is stable an performant for everyday use.
CM9/Nova etc is exciting, but still way too experimental .

JetMOD, JellyMOD or rooted XXLQE?

Hello, can anybody give me advice with rom?
I tryed JetMod - really very good rom without bugs. Then I wanted something new, so I installed XXLQE and rooted it, but I had problem with opening dialer and contact book, and fast discharging of batery. Now i have installed JellyMod, and same problems like with XXLQE. I need advice which rom to use. I am really nervous from new roms. Is really jetmod the best? But camera in jetmod is without zoom.
thanks

which kernel and recovery do you use? And what about camera? zoom and hardware trigger? i really miss it. and i use camera really often. Is any rom, which is combination of jetmod and jellymod?
None of the JB ROMs are as good as Gingerbread's. That's for sure. Bugs/lags everywhere.
After agony of using Jelly Bean, testing kernels and different FWs I'm back on GB. Ahh Good ol' GB.
Amazing performance compared to JB.
Are you use any custom rom of GB or stock? Did you try jetmod? Do you have any camera tips for GB with zoom and hardware triger? After update stock firmware xxlk2 /GB/ thete was problem with rolling menu/vertical rolling/, it is stopping while rolling. But i think it is my fault, because a want always something new in my SGA.
