LG ANNOUNCEMENT about Gingerbread update for Optimus serie
LG would like to express its sincere thanks to all of the Optimus Series owners who have been waiting patiently for the Android 2.3 Gingerbread upgrade. We are excited by the high level of product interest that LG Optimus Series owners have shown, and we are taking all possible measures to offer a smooth OS upgrade in a timely manner.
The three premium smartphones of the Optimus Series will be upgraded first, as outlined below, followed by a global rollout thereafter.
LG Optimus 2X: Now available (as of 1st November, 2011) for open models in Europe
LG Optimus 3D: Week commencing November 21st for open models in Europe
LG Optimus Black: Week commencing November 28th for open models in Europe
The exact timing of the upgrades in each market may vary because of the different requirements in each country with respect to domestic operators and models. Please contact local service representatives to check the specific upgrade schedule in your market.
Again, LG greatly appreciates the support and feedback that customers have given during the upgrade delay, and we will do our utmost to continually provide better service in the future.
Thank you very much.
Again, can't trust these LG people. No matter whatever happens, it's for sure that we wont get this thing.
Just call/email local LG support, and ask about update, because GT540 is in OPTIMUS serie. If say, no, we dont get official 2.3, ask why LG lie in press announcement. Please reply.
Hope out phone also will get this update
Edit : Mail Sent to LG Customer Care Post here once i get reply
Some folks here at XDA had mailed LG people a few days back regarding GB update. But neither of the replies were positive. Never mind, I've mailed them now, waiting for a reply.

Our phones should have been updated like a year ago with 2.3 and with .37 kernel, but LG Support is a piece of junk. I like LG phones but they f*ck their own reputation by doing this. (or by not doing anything.)

I emailed LG about 2 weeks ago, and you can guess the answer...
I think the ultimate solution is that all of us MUST become HARDCORE devs, so we can maintain our phones easily
i hope they update the kernel of our phone for better roms
I'm 100% sure, we wont receive update to 2.3
Theres GT540 and theres Optimus line, even if our phone called GT540 Optimus, i dosnt belong to Real optimus line, like GW620.
According to LG our phone specs are too low to even support Froyo.

According to LG, Optimus serie get Gingerbread update. GT540 is in that.
You people don't get the picture, do you? First off, yes, GT540 is part of the Optimus line - no problem there. However, in what universe does that mean LG's *bound* to update ALL the devices in the Optimus line? The GT540 is practically ancient with the amount of RAM it has, and we're talking about an operating system that has a requirement (in LG's words) of 1Ghz processor frequency(I strongly disagree). Read here. OK, yes, we've seen GB running on our platform fine and speedy, no argument there. But wait, there's more, and I'm probably saying this for the millionth time: LG would have hardly any or no profit from updating the GT540. This would make it buyable, and competitive on the market again, but wait.. see, the GT540 is a cheap handset, and updating it, that's right, would cost money. Also, shipping new units with GB... also costs money, and all that for what - a cheap(okay, "hardly profitable") phone that can also steal attention away from other handsets in the Optimus line(and not only). LG has already filled Swift's niche with the new Optimus Net, won't be such a good idea to draw attention from that now, right? The same goes for the Optimus Black, Optimus 3D, etc. It's simple when you think about it, so don't get all too excited y'all.
And? Your picture say, no optimus line GB update. New announce say, Optimus line GB update...
LG never released updates. This is a fact. Lg and Google promised to give updates for devices which good hardware.these are the optimus speed and black and 3d. Gt540 has bad hardware and LG wants to update the whole series of optimus devices? I don't believe that. But if they really do it would give us new dimensions of modding especially a new full working kernel is needed.. Let's hope even if its nearly impossible to believe

Im not so optimistic as you guys, im more like realistic about this whole thing... Just wait for response from costumer service, you will see it by yourself guys :/
This has been talked about like thausand times... Service guys said like million times, they will never gonna update gt540 to froyo or gb, due to its hardware limitations and becouse the phone is out of market long ago..
And im with GT540 pretty much from the very start... July 2010, i watched as the phone developing progressed, been on modaco forums when they opened thread about our phona was one of the first contributors named 'ilovelg' i think i made whole reference thread about rom flashing with kdz
By the way only High end devices were listed, too bad tho, couse most similar to our hardware phone LG Optimus P500 have Gingerbread for quite a long time already And our oldy dont even have a froyo, and never will, nor Gingerbread

Ok I have said this before and I don't mind getting banned for valgur language. If you check the LG site the gt540 can no longer be found there even in the optimus seris and older phones like cookie are still there(tells u something) next some time before September I sent my phone in for Warrenty cus the screen broke. When I collected the phone and asked them if they still sold extra battery's they said no as they stopped making parts for my phone.(tells u something again) well I am lucky I managed tobuy one in the end at the LG HQ in Singapore and they said it'd was the last one.... so u know what ?? F*Ck LG f*ck LG devs f*ck the company_|_ I'll never buy from them again
Next stop HTC when I need a new phone
I'm agree with nutterbg, there is no significant advantage for LQ by updating our device.
LQ will gain more profit if GT540 users retire their phones and buy the new 'LG' ones. The same thing or at least close is happened to Samsung Galaxy Spica. Samsung released new models instead of providing further updates for Spica.

Ya tats true...now I only believe it until LG's gb is on my phone...
hmmm....
but, what could be the reason for this delay??? does anyone have a clue?
Various conversations with LG support during December i have been told the following what now could be interpreted as LG Lies:
The update is ready on our end , so keeping checking the update tool and trying
The update has been ready since the 13th of December from LG's end we are just waiting for the service providers to do their testing and then once they give us the go ahead we will allow the update to be released
The update is imminent as of from the 13th of December so just check by plugging and checking for update online
Received in response to numerous requests, LG has tried to accelerate as much as possible the release of Gingerbread for Optimus Black declared his availability earlier this week. Unfortunately, we regret to inform you that there are problems with imperative that forced us to delay the release of Android Gingerbread for LG Optimus Black. LG’s goal is in fact the highest quality versions of software, a requirement to ensure not announced the release.
We are confident to publish the update in the coming weeks.
We apologize for any inconvenience and apologize for all users for their patience in us LG Optimus Black.
Once this release date got moved to December I realized this update aint gonna appear in 2011
We can hope for a 2012 release though
ahaaaa
i understand... i would suggest writing on different MOBILE LG support websites, and trying to get some answer from them, because this is outrageous...
i mean, come on... we bought the OB, give us some suport, ...
we peace up the bits of info that we all get and try to reach the truth...
it can be a common and easy effort, write to them, (support websites, facebook... etc) and politely ask them... what is up with the update???...
Why go to all that effort just to be fed more lies
Personally I think it will be released Jan or Feb sometime in 2012
LG said they were also upgrading to ICS?
1 word: LoL
I think it'll be about june when they're gonna scratch the OB of that list.

I had heard this news from the official forum of a chinese smartphone company which is Not a well-known brand named K-touch. The smartphone they produced has a accurate same Tegra2 chip with P990 (Tegra2 AP20H, actually same with P990). And their devlopers had given a good news to the MODERATOR of their official forum, and the moderator is the poster of the link above. The news said that they had begun coding with NVIDIA, and a beta ICS rom for their smartphone would be released at about 3 weeks later.
I think P990 could get the drivers after their beta rom released and the Hardware Acceleration of ICS for P990 could be solved. If so, LG provide ICS upgrade or not is not important.
Forgive me for my poor English. And I hope you guys could understand it.
It would really great if this is true But I couldn't find anything related to P990 on the link you given

The moderator announced that their smartphone K-touch W806 will get ics upgrade, and it has a same Tegra2 chip with P990. That's the only thing it related to P990. I post the link just want people know that the news is dependable.
So when we'll get that phones update binaries....
Good god! the k-touch w700 its really equal to the p990 :laugh::laugh:
now i got new hopes =D
it will probably have the same problem for porting as all other ics tegra2 phones: it doesn't include lg's modifications.
havent checked yet but ireally doubt it, unless its a completely same system as our phones, which is most unlikely
Great new!!!
It would be good to have a something like confirmation from a ours dev's eye

The link above shows the phone specs, as you can see, we have different camera still image resolution vide record is not 1080p, some differences in 3g. But you can see too that this is the phone that easily come closer to the optimus 2x (512mb ram , no fisical button, same screen resolution, etc...) and probably uses the same ap20h chipset cuz, it launched long time ago like to o2x
:good:
Ventana board..?

And since JB still uses kernel 3.0.xx (which has already been ported to our LG O2X), we will also see JB on our phone ...right?
Don't get any high hopes, it is very difficult that the SoC is exactly the same. The Lg 2x is more than a year and a half old, this phone you guys are talking about is recent just like the ZTE Mimosa is, those tegra2 chip have different coding inside.
Even though i have my fingers crossed (just for good luck).
As it was mentioned before, this thread should be on the "ICS updates out" thread........so we can keep on track of the news.

kernel has nothing to do with JB. Kernel versions have no influence on Android versions. Look at ICS, there are phones with it and they are running with 2.6 kernel. So don't worry about kernels on Jelly Bean.
I wouldn't get my hopes up. Unless it is exactly the same configuration i.e. star board, which is seriously doubt, it is of no use just like ZTE Mimosa / Grand.
the k-touch w700 is as old as o2x!! Great chances to be vantana board
I can't think of a nice way to say this, but WAKE UP, dun act like you guys are on LSD
LG O2x chip needs drivers of its own!!
We wield the first batch of nVidia dual-core processors and they were probably in beta when nVidia manufactured it!!
We have impaired chips and we need custom drivers for them!!

hi, is it the same board?! same in all integrity?!
I've been going bonkers trying to get my p880 flashed to 20a. I tried the LG-KDZ Hacker method first (many times), then the KDZ_FW_UPD method, which also failed. Finally, I tried using LGFlashTool which also failed, but the failure log gave me a hint as to why:
"Invalid Target P880 <> P880g"
Has anyone successfully flashed a Canadian 4x with a non-Canadian firmware?
Can anyone think of a way to do so? Or is there a reason I shouldn't?
Mods? Just delete thread.
Nevermind; I've done a more indepth search and come across all the previous unanswered threads. Mods--you may as well just delete this thread.
Yeah, good luck finding any info on the P880g. No one at XDA is working on it, so the best we can do is pray that LG releases something official for it.

I asked on their Facebook page and they replied "At this time there is no scheduled upgrades for the Optimus 4X within Canada."
I was a bit surprised at the hostility towards the P880g posts I found. It's not like our variant has its own forum. It's also not like variations in devices are uncommon. Back when I had a G1 (HTC Dream), the Canadian version ran different S/W but could run USA roms without issue--providing your radio and bootloader matched. But that was just a S/W issue. We *may* have different hardware. However, given how small the Canadian market is and that the P880g has only been released here (as opposed to the dozens of countries the P880 is available in), I'd be surprised if our *hardware* was actually different. I haven't been able to track down what chip the P880 uses, so I don't know if it's capable of 1700. If it is, we might be alright running p880 roms. If it isn't, then we'd need some real dev work.
The real issues right now are the locked bootloader and the model check. That's what's preventing us from seeing if a P880 rom would run. I'm no dev but if I can figure out how it does the model check then I'll try and flash v20a and see if I lose connectivity.
Now that makes me curious... check this comparison: http://pdadb.net/index.php?m=pdacomparer&id1=3314&id2=3972
The only difference between the two is Band 4 on the P880g, and Band 9 on the P880... plus Android 4.0.4 vs. 4.0.3 (a minor software update). The listed chips are the same. So what is it in the hardware that makes a difference for frequencies? Is it even hardware, or simply a ROM limitation? Do they have physically different antennas?
Perhaps it is simply a matter of flipping a couple bits in a P880 ROM to enable Band 4, and disable Band 9 and the model check. I wish I had a shred of the technical knowledge necessary to experiment with this stuff.

The 'chip' in question is the radio/wireless chip, rather than the cpu/gpu. It's not typically listed on spec sheets, and is the sort of thing you need to do a teardown to find out. For example, if you check out this teardown: http://www.ifixit.com/Teardown/Nexus+One+Teardown/1654/2 , the Qualcomm RTR6285 is the Nexus One's radio chip. Sometimes radio chips will support more frequencies than they use. If the P880 and P880g have the same chip, then accessing frequencies is a software matter and easier for a dev to deal with.
I'm no dev either, but hey, devs are made, not born. I like my P880g as is, but I'd really love to be able to customize it more and or update it as time goes by and 4.0.4 begins to seem a bit long in the tooth.

Hi all
Since a few weeks I'm using a nexus 6 (XT1100) and I'm really happy with it. But i have a few open questions about the modem chipset.
-What kind of modem chipset is built into the nexus 6, qualcomm MDM9X35 like Note 4?
-Why are just two CA configs available (B3+B5, B3+B9), I miss B20+B3 and B7+B3 configs.
-Is there a way to unlook those CA configs?
Thanks!

Because USA carriers use different frequency bands than the rest of the world.
And apparently it was too much to build all of the bands, plus GSM plus CDMA into one device(?)...
