[Q] ICS SDK Builds? - Nexus One Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Are there any plans to build an ICS ROM for the N1 from the SDK?

My guess they will start making some when google release the AOSP.

I think the OP was asking if there will be ROMs based on the SDK (which is already out), not on AOSP...

If you want to play around with it, just use the SDK and create an AVD. Actual ROMs based off the SDK do not work well, so might as well just play around with it on an AVD.

I know that, I was saying that there probably will only be ports to the N1 once the AOSP comes out.

I know CM will not port anything from SDK

Folks will prob be putting out SDK builds now, given that the SDK is out, but the source is not . Once the source is available, we will see AOSP builds.
EDIT: What I was trying to say is that once the source is released to the AOSP, there certainly will be no SDK builds released. If SDK builds are coming (as they have in the past) they will come between the release of the SDK and before the release of the source...

2.0 AOSP?

So, at the risk of being flamed, I still have to ask (since I did a half-assed search) what exactly this means? Does it mean the source of the ROM has been made availible to the public? Becuase I thought it already was.. or was that just for application developers to have the 2.0 environment to make/test their programs with..? I think that was the ADP..? Does this mean now that ROM modifiers such as Cyanogen have their hands on the source now to manipluate and develope it?
Go ahead and flame on if you must.. I would just like to get this cleared up becuase it is knowledge to be attained.

This means that the 2.0 version of Android (or at least partially as of writing) has gone open source and people may begin building 2.0 from source.
i have the feeling 3.0 isnt so far away

what makes you think that....-_-
2.0 going "ASOP" means that the 2.0 source is officially released to the Android Open Source Project
the code has been dropped

[Q] Anyone working on the official 2.2 since the source code is out?

Just wondering if anyone is working on some rom's for the official 2.2 update, the rom's we have now are amazing just figured they would be a little more refined with the official source code released??
There already are a few if you look in the development section. I know adam of team phoenix has one in beta right now called fusion, and I saw a couple others.

all the ones i saw in the dev section were based off of the Rodgers build, which is similar but not based off of the actual captivate 2.2

The new Cog 4.1, and a few others are based off the ATT 2.2.

I don't think it is guaranteed that they will ever release source...
Although they probably will eventually (hope)

they have to release the source eventually. cant remember exactly but according to licensing, they have X amount of days after official release to release the source.

Is that a Google requirement?
I believe Cognition 4.1 is based off of official froyo 2.2
I am gonna close this up now as Source has not been released and there are Roms based on the 2.2 ATT update and they are marked plainly

Stupid question about custom roms and kernels

Aside from installing what other devs make, I've never really been a part of the Android dev scene, despite being a programmer (mostly web dev and interpreted languages) myself. I'm not sure if its my inexperience or naivete talking, but isn't technically possible to compile AOSP with the kernel source Motorola posted and install that on a Moto X with an unlocked bootloader? Is there any real roadblock between me and my own custom rom (besides my lack of a linux computer to compile everything on)?

I dont see why you would want to... It basically ships with AOSP and a couple Motorola apps.. Unless you mean to compile 4.3 or 4.4 when it releases. Compiling 4.2.2 for the X would be kinda useless...

Useless or not I want to get into the custom rom game. Compiling AOSP from the source and installing it is a great start.

If you know that then porting 4.3 could be a good start.

Well I'm certainly up to looking into it. Is it as simple as compiling 4.3 with the kernel motorola gave us?

I cant really help you with that. Im not a dev, just a long time android tinkerer who saw an unanswered thread I could provide a little insight in.

[Q] any development in progress?

Just a simple question... How come that development hasn't really started for this device yet? Are there any future plans except for cm, which, as i have read, is already officially planned?

The device isn't that popular actually. Not a lot of people have it. So development will definitely be slow compare to other devices.
You will just need to be patient.

You have CM 11 and KK with sense 6. Plus cm is already official. We have a kennel with dt2w. And HTC will release L for our phone. What else do you want?
PS you can start developing for this device. It's never too late
Learning great news, cm11 is now officially supported, thumbs up!

Still on DP5, no OTA yet. Im in Kosovo, Europe
Nexus device blues
Having a nexus 6 and now getting the OTA update as soon as release as previously expected.
we will see it in a couple of weeks.
Who needs the stock images when there are already custom roms on the market.
Much better flashable zip. No encryption and custom kernel

As long as Bootloader and Radio dont change from DP5 to Release. Custom roms are the best route.
I am even on preview 1 bootloader and no problem at all. Runs super smooth and root is working. All my apps are fine. So take your time Google

Out of curiosity I see you list velocity nougat for nexus 6. I searched on XDA but couldn't find anything except for an HTC device. Mind if I ask where you got that rom? I'd like to scope it out, thank you in advance

Velocity is from the psx def. He is not on xda. Just building for himself and I am a tester since day one 4 years ago. It's only available on a German forum. N is not official, so I can't. But if you Google my name with velocity you will find.

Not really a wise option. The roms right now are hacked together with bits and parts from other stuff and without an updated kernel many things are causing issues and you dont get all the new under the hood improvments.

We have kernel source for DP5. And as of right now the AOSP r1 source hasn't changed much from DP5 to r1. Or thats what the elite guys have mentioned.

Yeah I have the source and alot is still missing compared to the DP5. I have spoken with most teams and they are all of the same mind. Until it is fixed they wont build for the n6. Some are even gonna wait until late September or October before even attempting to build it. We are all over Google groups complaining about it. Most think it has to do with Qualcom and the new Vulcan stuff that qualcomm is refusing to support on some chips.
We can only wait and see. I personally am not touching a single rom that is built at the moment. Not a fan of hack together roms.

Not with a device I rely on. My device is a tool not a toy lol.
Plus I make my own roms and only use roms made by a very few others. To be honest only 2 teams do I trust their roms to flash to my device. I know all too well the risks involved in flashing roms.
Nexus 5x is live Come On GOOGLE!!!
Velocity was a ROM by Trident in the LG Ally days, woah they bring me back. Back to Android 2.2.2!
