Hi,
Did anyone try to fit a nook color in a Mercer Slip cover?.
The one here http://gifts.barnesandnoble.com/Mercer-Slip-Cover-in-Ink/e/9781615598922
According to the dimensions it should fit and fit snugly.
I am looking for something simple and pouch like and that looks nice in pictures.
I also found it for a lot cheaper on ebay.
Thanks for any help.
rchir
well, i went ahead and bought it via ebay from Barnes and Noble.
It was 9.99 shipped and is actually made of genuine leather (though recycled leather, whatever that means)
It is available here for $9.99

I will report back with results and pictures once i get it.
the nook color is slightly taller than the nook. so i think the top will stick out a little bit. last time i was at a B&N i tried to stick my nook color in a slip case that had a fabric latch with a snap on top and it would not snap because the top stuck out slightly. just, fyi
I was at a BN a few hours ago & can confirm it doesn't fit a NC since it sticks out on top about 0.5".
Loving my rooted (stock 1.01) nook color, but I am afraid to touch it sometimes! It is a great unit, but it feels a bit lightweight and I read at least one thread on here saying that it breaks easily when dropped.
I'm looking at the otterbox for shock protection, but a) that isn't out yet and b) I really prefer the look of some of the B&N book-style covers.
My question is, do the B&N covers provide adequate shock protection? And if not, are there other covers that do? I've been searching amazon etc and saw a couple of book-like hard cases, but they were apparently designed for the original nook and bizarely require you to attach the nook color with stick-on velcro strips that don't actually stick to the rubberized nook color back surface.
So I'm undecided. I want a handsome (though non-leather) fold-over book-like cover, but I also want something that will absorb the impact of droping the thing on a hard floor.
Have others found a solution to this dillema?
im personally considering making one, going to barnes and noble tomorow to look for ideas

I bought this case: http://gifts.barnesandnoble.com/Vasco-Cover/e/9781616837259/?cds2Pid=35616
for 50 bucks. and i absolutely love it. I bought one of those "open flap" type of cases, and it just wasn't doing it for me. Always flipped open on it's own because i fold the case around the back when i use it.
But the soft leather on my new one folds back perfectly. It also has these nice magnets that hold it together, as well as inside pockets that also have magnets.
All in all, i love this case and it has protected my NC greatly so far.
I use the Lautner cover from B&N: http://gifts.barnesandnoble.com/Lautner-Book-Cover-Night/e/9781616865146/?itm=15
I've dropped my NC a couple of times without any damage to the NC. the corners of the cover have some give and reduce the shock on the device. Once the NC came unclipped, but was not damaged.
I recently bough a Nook Color and am trying to see what case I want to buy. Does anyone know if there is just a simple Silicone Cover that also has a kickstand similar to the EVO phones?
I would like to get something slim so that the device still fits in my pocket but I also want it to stand both portrait and landscape mode.
Please let me know if there is anything you might recommend.
Thanks
I couldn't decide what case to buy so just impulse bought this case on Ebay.
"PDair Black Genuine Leather VX1 Case for Nook Color"
I would love to give you a link, but the forum prevents me at the moment until I have posted 10 messages.
It hasn't arrived yet, so I can't comment on its quality. I chose it over the others as it looked okay and would not be bulky. However, obviously it gives no protection when the device is in use.
I myself am a huge fan of holster type cases. i have the franklin sleeve from barnes and noble and LOVE IT, cant post links yet google "barnes and noble franklin sleeve" and it will be your first hit
Check Amazon
They have a lot of different ones there. Check this one out. Seems like a pretty good one.

Best buy has a soft cloth style case. Its perfect. By the ereaders. Also my buddy gave me the idea of cutting the ipad screen cover and trimming it to fit the nook screen. You can make two!!!!
Silicone Skin for Nook Color
Kick Stand
These are all nice suggestions. Thank you. I am still trying to find a case with a kick stand.

Full Review
I opted to not get any of the cheap cases because I really wanted a good Landscape stand case, and I'm glad I waited. I'll tell you right now that it is superior in almost every way compared to the $75 landscape one offered by B&N and also superior than the other ones out there. My first impression was it looked really nice! The outside leather feels really nice and the inside material (it's non-slip for better control in adjusting landscape) makes my nook warm and happy. When I looked inside, however, I was worried. The way it bends to allow landscape stand is weird and it makes it to where the nook is actually held in only on 3 sides. It wasn't until I got my nook in and realized this isn't a major problem. When closed, it is 100% secure (as the side not locked in faces the binding)and when in landscape mode, the unsecure side of the nook rests on the soft inner material. The problem may arise when holding it in portrait mode, read on to see why.
First, speaking of landscape mode, it says that it has four angles, but (to my surprise) the pre-made areas for the nook to sit are not the only angles it can truly use! Thanks to the non-slip material used on the inside, you have a full range of area where it can actually sit, so this allows for a much wider range (very happy about this, even if it wasn't designed this way). The nook does not slip out of these positions, either. I had it sitting on my lap last night and moved around quite a bit and it stayed still. The biggest complaint about Landscape mode (although I understand why) is that the clasp that holds it shut is hanging in front of the screen. Two solutions to this can be to tuck it under the case (slightly raising the case, actually making it better) or lay something on it (in my case, my BT Keyboard) to hold it down. The last thing to note is that it's very sturdy and you can use the touch screen with no problems of it falling (as i've experienced with other cases)
Portrait mode works well, the front cover being able to fully go behind it (and the clasp holding it there, thanks to it being magnetic). At first, I thought the clasp was cheap, but I realized they made it this way for this very reason, to be able to hold the case fully open! However, when in portrait mode, it does not feel as sturdy. I don't think the nook will fall out (I did try), but I kept my left hand on it at all times while holding it.
I have more to say but am running out of time. For now (as I've only had the case 24 hours), I am giving it a full recommend! I'll be updating this over the next week (and maybe month, if needed) with more thoughts and pictures. If I get a chance, I'd like to make a video of exactly how it moves into landscape and the minor problems I ran into while using it in portrait.
Update (After 10 days)
I am just as happy now, if not happier, than I was when I originally wrote this review. I have used this (mainly for reading) many hours at a time and have not had a single problem. The Nook has not slipped as I originally feared it might, the clip is a non-issue because it slips right under it and almost lays flat when in stand-mode. I'm sorry if I confused anyone when I said that portrait mode works well, it doesn't stand like that I meant when holding it, because the case goes back and the snap holds it together. The leather feels good in your hand and I really feel that my Nook is safe inside of it.
I still give it a full recommendation and think it's the best case for the money if you're looking for a landscape stand. Make sure to read the whole thread to get others impressions!
Edit: Added 10 day update and pictures
I just got mine in the mail yesterday. I concur with this review. This case is fantastic. Excellnt quality and landscape stand viewing works exceptionally well. In portrait, it is actually more comfortable to hold than the case I bought from Barnes & Noble. The slight curve at the edges makes it feel like it's moulder to your hand. This is the last case I buy.

Sorry I didn't put pictures up yet, I have been really busy over the weekend.
To answer your question, others have complained about the cheaper case slipping out of position, also that the outter leather feels totally fake. The rooCASE, on the other hand, has a non-slip material on the inside that, no matter the position, it won't slip, and the outside leather feels really nice. Also, IMO, the cheap one looks, well...cheap. The roocase looks like a professional notebook or datebook or something. For me, after hearing reivews of other rooCASE products and hearing how high quality they are, I went with the more expensive for longevity more than anything (I tend to get good use out of my cases)

No, the CrazyOnDigital case is very well made, snug fit, the inside material is very good, never slip at any position. The outer material is as good as other pleather case, it thick, soft but feel very light, well protects the NC. It doesn't have the Cons of the rooCase: encloses the NC at all 4 sides so it won't fall out in portrait, no clasp to disturb when sitting in landscape view. It's thicker and not as nice but it works really well at less than half the price. I have used it for several weeks and it just works like new, no wear or tear, no nothing
Order has been submitted. Thanks for the review.
Received mine today as well. Definitely a fantastic case for the NC! I'd been using a B&N leather case but this one will be my daily driver going forward. Highly recommended!!!
UPDATE: You mention a portrait mode with this case. How are you arranging the case for portrait use?
How is the flap attached to the case? Would it look bad if I cut it off?
Can someone post some pictures of this in portrait mode? I'm interested in how it looks/works in that position.

It's like a book in portrait.
The flap isn't too bad, just seems like an obvious thing that was overlooked. I just fold mine under the lip when in use in landscape.

Is it possible to somehow have it propped up in portrait made?
Great review, ordered one yesterday. Will post back once I give it a whirl! Thanks!

I considered that one, but went with the RooCase for aesthetic reasons. I like the fact that the RooCase (like many of the Barnes and Noble OEM cases) leaves the Nook's bezel exposed. Makes the whole thing look a little more integrated, IMHO.

Yeah, but not at an angle, so it's not really worth it.
I find that I'm generally holding my NC like a book when I read in portrait, and landscape is the only orientation I really want a stand for. So the RooCase is perfect IMHO.

It might look OK. You'd still have the nub that it attaches to the back, though.
Honestly, the clasp isn't a big deal. It really doesn't get in the way, and you can easily tuck it underneath if you're annoyed by it.
Got mine. It's pretty rad. It reeks like hell though. Peeee-yew!

What does it smell like? Mine just smells like leather, actually smells good if you don't mind that smell...it's funny, I was on vacation earlier this week, walked into a farm store randomly and smelled the leather and it made me think of my Nook...
BTW, updating my original review to reflect my week and a half with it. It should be updated within the hour
I've had this case for about a week:
http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B008GFVF3M/ref=oh_details_o02_s00_i00
I'd post photos, but the pictures at Amazon pretty much show you everything that there is to see about the case. Now here's my take on it.
First of all, it's not a thin case. Not even close. When it's closed, it's just under an inch thick. Which is fine for me because that's not what I was after. The Nexus 7 slides into a full leather inner case. The back of that case is covered with Velcro "loops", the soft part of the Velcro. That attaches to a large strip of "hook" Velcro that is sewn into a book-style outer case. As you can see from the Amazon pictures, depending upon the orientation of the inner case, you can place the tablet at one of three angles for viewing.
When I first used the case, the hinge on the left side was stiff - really, really stiff. In fact, sometimes it would pop open and turn the Nexus 7 on. But after a week of use, the hinge has softened, just as I'd hoped, and the cover stays closed, held that way by two magnets. The magnets also turn the tablet on and off. Folded all the way back, the magnets don't affect the tablet at all, probably because of all those layers of leather and cloth sandwiched between the magnets and the tablet.
The quality of materials seems to be good. There weren't any loose stitches. I ordered the black case with a tan interior. Every surface is a two-layer, sewn together construction of an outer leather material against an inner, soft cloth, with the outer cover having some sort of board, like the covers of a book, for extra stiffness (as does the back of the inner cover). The white stitching is a more apparent in real life than in the pictures, which some my find a bit jarring. As far as styling goes, well, it's pretty conservative. It hasn't turned any heads near me, so if that's your thing, you might want to look elsewhere (or perhaps consider one in an exciting color other than black or white).
The three long slots that serve as stops to prop the tablet up also work quite nicely to give your fingers a little grip if you're holding the tablet like a book.
I primarily use my tablet for two things: listening to music at work and reading books at home, so this cover works very nicely for those situations. At work, the Nexus 7 sits, propped at an angle, on my desk and at home, I flip the cover all the way open and it gives me a good grip for reading. Obviously, though, the one thing that it does is obscure the sleek lines of the tablet, so if that's something that you want to show off, this isn't the cover for you. Also, it strikes me that it's not exactly a champ at heat dissipation, but that has not been a problem for me yet.
The price has gone up since I ordered mine, but now it's covered by Amazon Prime, so that may be a break for some of you. I'm quite pleased with it.
By the way, I installed the Nova Launcher, which supports home screen landscape mode. It goes well with this sort of case. OK, here's a picture.
Thanks for the review. I decided to hold off for a little after the n7 was released to see what kind of cases would come out. Thanks to your review and a lot of looking around on Amazon this is the case I'm going to go with.
