Hi,
I have black screen with two icons on the right side (i can't click them) when I try to turn on camera.
Vignette stuck on starts with an "initializing camera".
I flashed firmware with Sony Ericsson Update Services - no effect.
I had rooted phone month ago and camera works fine, but I'm not sure about uninstall some files (facebook, rollercoaster, etc.), maybe I something removed more by accident... It's possible that I haven't some apk ?
I had the exact same problem. I had to send it for repair. They installed a new camera.
ahhh

I seem to have this problem with most apps that prompt the camera to be used. For example, the program "A World of Photo" (you send a random photo from your location to someone else in the world, and they send one to someone, etc) will automatically prompt my camera to come up so I can take the said picture, but after the pic is taken, it just goes back ready to take another pic as if I had opened the camera app. It doesn't go back to A World of Photo as I am assuming it should.
I am on CM 5.0.5.3 (wasn't feeling 5.6) and using the desire camera. Is the desire camera the problem, and how might I fix?
thx

Try reverting to stock camera and see if the problem persists.
Is that as easy as pushing the stock htccamera apk back in the system app folder or do i need to do something with the existing desire app? Sorry, still getting used to android.
edit: and why do I keep getting read-only filesystem errors when trying to do so?
edit2: ok just needed a remount - got it copied over. Now I have two camera apps lol.
edit3: yup it was the desire camera apps fault... well I have dual option now I guess so it does "work" with the stock camera app. Work in progress!
thx
Everytime I try to use the front facing camera on my Droid 3 it says "unable to intialize" and I have to power off the phone to reset the camera. I've found lots of people that have had the same problem (why didn't I find these posts BEFORE I bought the phone??) but I've not found any solutions.
I have not made any modifications to the phone. It is not rooted. It says my system is up to date.
Is there anyway to fix this?
Thank you for any help I can get. I am beyond frustrated
Factory reset? Probably a software problem.

Tried that (more than once, just to be sure). No luck.
Any other suggestions?
Which version of software do you have? Go to Settings, and go to the bottom and tap that and look at the version (post a screenshot or picture so we can tell).

It is System Version 5.7.906.XT862, Android Version 2.3.4
(Sorry for no screenshot,I tried a handful of screenshot apps and didn't have any luck with any of them working right.)
I have the same problem with minomoto
Do you have any third-party apps that use the ff camera? For example, have you installed any anti-theft security apps installed that may be set to use the camera if somebody has stolen the phone? Is it possible that one of those running in the background is not releasing the camera for other apps?

I didn't install anything like that and I don't think any of the bloatware has anything like.
This same issue suddenly struck my Droid 3 a week ago. I'm running stock .906, rooted, most Verizon bloat removed. Never had an issue with any camera apps accessing front or back cameras, then suddenly my front camera either shows black or won't initialize. I searched the web pretty extensively, but haven't found any definite fix. I've tried clearing the system cache and deleting the camera app's data with no result. I'm hoping to avoid a hard reset if possible, as I hate having to set everything up again, and by the reports I've seen it's only helped a few people.
You could create another ROM slot and try that from Safestrap. But it might be the hardware going pfffftt.
I know some others have had the same issue I believe they had to sbf. If nothing else if the issue survives an sbf you will know it's hardware

Hi!
Camera in my Xperia V does not work properly. It can take pictures only in sunny day, in the dark does not turn on. I tested all the official systems (including 4.0.4 4.1.2 4.3) and CM11, everywhere the same bug. In the pictures , where a very strong light, purple stripes are visible (see the Attached Thumbnails). I thought it was hardware damaged, so I bought the camera, but unfortunately nothing changed
So anybody has idea what is wrong?

Try turning off NFC. Btw: are you using the stock camera app?

Nfc off does nothing.
In screenshot I'm using "A better camera" from google play, but now I'm using stock system with stock camera app.

And both camera apps are giving you the same problem?

Unfortunately no.
Interesting is the fact, torch turns on using flashlight applications from google play, but each of them get freezy and FC after 1-2 min. When I turn on the default application for torch in custom ROM (like Carbon, Lovins) everything is ok.

Try flashing stock 4.1.2 firmware using flashtool and do a complete wipe during the install (tick all three boxes on the right side: data, cache and something which I don't remember the name of). You might've messed something up when flashing custom roms and flashing back the stock one should fix it. Also check if your camera lens is scratched/cracked. If none of that helps. I'm afraid it's a hardware fault then. :/
Btw: I remember people talking about the camera bug which you have in 1st picture in some 4.3 rom (not the latest one). But it's the first time I've seen a bug like you have in 2nd picture.
Camera lens look perfect on both camera modules. I am surprised that after the exchange of the camera is the same problem.
I'll try flash tomorrow or later (you know, New Year) and and I'll answer.
Thanks for your support and Happy New Year :highfive:

Unfortunately, Camera has stopped
Flashing to stock 4.1.2 via flashtool nothing has changed. In a small service near me, they said that the fault of the driver on the motherboard, and there's nothing they will do.
I'm sad, because photos in the sun and underwater is doing great.
@finac94 Thanks for trying me solve this problem
Regards
Since a couple weeks the camera isn't working as it should. Well, the default camera is OK but changing to the wide camera can give problems. The camera seems to capture the image (shows up in the preview) but after checking there is a green image. Or just no picture at all. Sometimes the camera even freezes and close after a while. restarting the camera gives an error: Camera Error - Cannot connect to the camera.
Behavior is not always the same, but problem keeps coming back, also after rebooting and killing the camera. Also deleting the cache didn't bring a solution. Anyone else with the same problems and maybe a solution?

Have you cleared data for your camera app? If yes, i encourage you to try resseting your device (don't forget to backup your data before) and if the problem perssist, than you should take to a service center to check it up.

Thanks for your answer. Yes, I cleared data for the camera app. Hope I don't have to reset my device as it will take a while to get everything back to how it is now. Would have been easy with titanium backup. Isn't there an app to backup everything.

Yes, i miss too backup using Titanium
If you cleared data and there' s no change than perhaps you can try installing different camera apk (Google Cam apk or anyother from PlayStore) and check if it has the same problem.

That camera (also Open Camera and FV5) aren't supporting the wide camera, so unable to check as the error occurs only when switching to the wide camera.

Then i'm afraid to say it, but you might take in consideration resseting your device ?
This way it looks that the camera itself has faulty connection to motherboard, maybe return it ?

Just checked and no problem, the stock camera app opens and is ready in less than a second. The current rom I have on my (originally) at&t model is the korean open 409N also.
Maybe check the lg sites for a newer (or even older) version of the camera app? If it's not the app, and everything is pretty much stock, it may unfortunately be a hardware issue...
Hello, any reference where and what exactly firmware I needed? I mean I am fine on downgrading to pie but didn't know the process of doing it. Btw here's the image of my version of my V40

I think you've misunderstood. I'm not suggesting you change the firmware (I have the exact same firmware you do (well I have 30d and u have 30e - a security update), and no problem with camera app).
I was suggesting you try a different version of the CAMERA APP. LG makes changes to the camera app and makes the *.apk available to download, you'll have to search for LG camera app to find it.
It does seem very unusual you'd be experiencing such a lag when opening the camera app though. You'd almost have to bet that something else you've installed (not stock) that is causing the delay.

Well, in the interest of helping you narrow it down, I can tell you I just used lgup to install the latest korean open kdz (the one you're on, 30e). My camera app opens as it always has with other roms, in less than a second.
so, anyway, I think you can rule out it being anything to do with the specific rom...

thank you currently downgraded to pie but seems the problem exist. It's a camera hardware fault.
I had a verizon V40 and the camera went to crap with the A10 upgrade. Viewfinder was laggy, very similar to what you describe. Also, I think it was telephoto that would show parallel lines across any bright \ white objects. This was a stock rom, stock cam app, and the problem continued after multiple factory resets. Found it hard to believe it was a hardware issue, as it happened immediately after the A10 upgrade. I second year promised the phone...while I did get a brand new phone, it was the US unlocked version. So, as you know, that means no advanced calling (video) within the verizon dialer app and no vvmail.
Found that this GCam mod works. Install the app, then copy the XML (you have to remove the ".txt" at the end, xda wont let me upload it otherwise) to "/internal storage/GCam/Configs/" (make the folders) and then open the app, double-tap the black space to the right of the shutter button, then choose "restore". The app should then work perfectly, with all the cameras available, and no lag in the viewfinder.
hello the problem is solved by replacing the camera. its a hardware fault
