[Q] does home launcher drain battery - Huawei Ideos X6

hi
i was using zeem launcher all these days, as i like the touch wiz4 feel i recently installed Go launcher EX and added the touch wiz4 theam. But suddenly i feeling a heavy battery drain.Just wanted to know if Using the Go launcher is the reason for this to happen if so what do i need to do to avoid a heavy battery drain
Thanks in advance

I'm using GO Launcher since long time (as long I purchased my Android, infact I've not used any other launcher) and I never faced any battery drain problem due to it. Can't say what's the reason for sudden battery drain but you can try to calibrate your battery

hi
i have been using 2g may be thats it
how do i caliberate the battery

AFAIK, enabling widgets will drain more battery... as the widgets keep on running all the time in the background..so it is better to use as less widgets as possible or no widgets at all as far as battery drainage is concern... and i think, yes battery drainage depends on launcher to launcher, display settings, even on theme/ wallpapers( i may be wrong though)

are you using a live wallpaper or some widgets like facebook widget or other widgets.....??? all these tend to eat upon your battery life..... disabling haptic feedback and keypad vibrations may help, some launchers also have option to choose high quality scrolling which uses more battery, check if yours is enabled....
to get an idea you can switch back to your old launcher for a day or two to see if the battery life improves, BTW i am using launcher pro and haven't felt any battery drainage issues....

note : as i said i think the reason for my heavy battery drain was my usage of 2g & wifi i did not use it yesterday and the battery seems to be ok still have 75% today morning with min use thanks to all for their kind advise

IMO Go launcher does consume more battery compared to other launchers escpecially zeam......

GO launcher ex and baterry drain

Is it just my imagination or go launcher ex is a huge battery drain?
For comparison I installed it on my galaxy s and there I see no battery drain (previously I had launcher pro on both devices)
But when I installed it on my tab I see huge difference in battery consumption ...
Why is that? I am using overcome 2.0.1 and therefore can't see anything in battery stats...
Is anyone else experiencing same problems?
Sent from my GT-P1000
I'm using ADW launcher EX , for sure any running app it will affect on the battery status , but not that much drain .. i think its just your imagination
I don't think its my imagination... when I was using launcher pro, my CPU was avarage on 800 MHz (cpu spy), on go launcher its 1400mhz....
I tested this by going to cpu spy, reset timer.. go to launcher... swiped through screens for minute then to cpu spy again....
And I was wandering why go launcher is far more fluid on my tab then launcher pro ever was :-(...
When I put governor to conservative, on go launcher cpu is avarage at 800 but it lags like launcher pro...( while I was using launcher pro governor was ondemand)
Anyone can confirm this? I mean go launcher an launcher pro are both fluid on my sgs on Max 1000mhz and 1400mhz.. even on 800mhz they are fluid enough...

Here is SC of cpu spy, for 20 minute use 12% battery ...
I don't know why, but it all started when I installed go launcher ...

there is option in the go launcher settings

just for the info .. any launcher like go or Adw are take much memory and also drain your battery this is what i know
Its unchecked ...

I''ve been running GO Launcher EX for a few months now and have no problems with battery drain, i use setcpu and never go over 1000mhz, never needed to on Overcome GingerBread ROM, the only time i get major battery drain is when network (3G/H) is on so i allways have this turned off.
My tab was taken off charge at 7.45am today have watched 22 mins family guy cartoon at lunch break, go weather/Colorize twitter and facebook widget updated on wifi before i left for work, its now 7.50pm and battery is at 90%.
Go Launcher has effects and High Quality Drawing on, and all widgets installed and lots of themes.
So not sure why you are having problems with go launcher.
I install this launcher yesterday, and it drain battery faster than touchwiz at least twice. Last night i recharge my phone battery full at 12, and this morning i wake up at 11 the battery gone more than 40%. With touchwiz launcher my phone can stay at least 2 day.
GO Launcher *is* a battery drain
Go Launcher generally crushes your battery, no doubt, but not everyone suffers. And it's not yet fixed, despite the GO developers running a bit of a poll on their web site asking for feedback in October.
With Go Launch Ex (current version as at 8 Nov 2011) running, I could see 10-12% battery drain per hour. Didn't know about CPU Spy back then so no idea what that was reporting. Not interested in switching back to find out either. I could literally watch the battery drain out.
Huawei Ideos X5, CM7 + franco kernel, cpu governor set to smartassv2 and cpu min/max @ 245/806MHz (ie not overclocked).
Installed ADW Launcher - battery has been on 67% for over two hours. 56% in deep sleep, and would probably be more but I keep hitting the power button to see the battery %
For a couple of days ago i installed Go Launcher Ex on my Desire HD and I noticed huge battery drain right away.My DHD battery can't survive all day with Go Launcher runing.
I use LauncherPro Full in my Galaxy Tab 7 with Setcpu at 1,4 Ghz (rooted) and the battery runs good.
I used ADW and it drained fast my battery. Go Launcher Ex I never used for a long time to tell my experience.

Is there any tweak??? It's such a nice launcher, but if drains my phone life like this than we wont be able to use it.

I have same problem. Different device (Sensation 4G) but am suspicious it is GO launcher causing battery drain. Battery will drop 10% per hour just sitting on the table. Now trying going back to Sense as well.
I realize this isn't applicable to the Galaxy Tab forum, but wanted to chime in that people have the problem and also suspect GO Launcher.

Yes, exactly. It drains battery like hell even if I'm not using the phone and its laying with screen off.
I have GO Launcher EX and I don't have any battery drain - my SGT works good, battery holds whole day if I play a lot (of course, more if I don't), and it took around 2% of battery per hour in pure standby (btw, I have SIM inside and SGT is always online - ireless or 3G).
Maybe some other process drains battery?

Low battery

My phone is having a really bad battery life.It can't last a whole day and it discharges extremely fast.I looked at "Battery" in settings and nothing looks suspicious.Even in standby mode it discharges like crazy ( overnight i lose about 30% of battery ).Phone is completely new.I don't want to disable live wallpaper, wifi, mobile data, sync etc. because i bought a smartphone for those features.Any other suggestions are welcome.

That's normal for the stock ROM, flash my V3 ROM you'll have 2 or 3% drainage over night.
I get super draining aswell after flashing dmod v1. I can't be bothered to keep flashing roms so I'm waiting for cm or benzrom v4.

Turn off your live wallpaper en weatherclock. Those 2 keeps the phone awake. I have with 3g allways on slight browsing loads of texting and whatsapp few calls and most of the time online on facebook, 20/27h of battery time. When i dont use my phone alot it can go up to 35/40h

No live wallpaper and no weather clock. Most bloat ware removed, Using golden kernel hotplug governor and seeder. With benzrom I had 20+ hours with heavy use. Since dmod I get roughly 10-15 hours. 30% drains overnight.

So strange, there are no significantly changes in DMod, compared to the base BenzROM! Essentially frameworks and apps are the same
I know man it doesn't make sense but I can't wait for another better rom that will hopefully fix this issue with a clean install.

Yes but you're forgetting about build.prop tweaks, they play a big role when it comes to battery drainage.
I just installed Benz rom, so i am hoping for better battery life. But there is also one more thing i noticed.I installed no frills cpu and i noticed that minimum frequency is 1 ghz !!! I set it to 200 mhz and i think that will make a huge impact on battery.I will be posting my battery stats picture soon.
So many advises about installing other rom. I think you need to try to remove huge battery drainers first. Try to disable Picasa web-albums sync (this **** eats alot! ) and some other sync that you don't need. You need to change it for each Google account you use on your phone. That's all. This small change halped me alot with battery drain and, I hope, will help you.
Also, you can freeze apps that you don't need to. It can be made without root.

In screenshot you have a very weak gsm signal in your area. This drains your battery.
If you don't use 3G/HSPA mobile data, you can try to manual switch to 2G network (2G band use less power from your battery).
HTH,
Ok, so installing a new rom and messing with CPU frequencies did help after all.I installed Benz rom and changed minimum cpu frequency from 1 ghz to 200 mhz.Battery now lasts 2-3 days with light use and about 1.5-2 with medium use.Battery discharge overnight is about 10% with sync, wifi etc. turned on.
hmm,i dont know what apps you have installed on your phone, but when i installed Dropbox app few days ago, there was a massive battery drainage overnight...it eat my battery between 30-35% overnight...and it used to be only 3-5%...
of course i uninstalled the app and now its back to normal, only 3-5% drainage overnight(wifi and sync off)...
Check my "Obligatory Extended Battery Thread."

Is horrible battery life normal?

Hello I recently picked up a s5 that is on the latest update ANG3 and the battery life is far from anything to brag about. I mean like maybe 7hours with an hour of screen on time before the phone is at 20%. I have done some searching and all I see are wake locks and not going to deep sleep cause problems but I'm not seeing either of those in my battery stats. I disable many apps that aren't needed such as lookout and many of the bloat apps hoping one of those was the cause but still to no avail
I'm at a loss as to what to check now any help would be appreciated
I can usually go 2 days without charging and have 4 hours of screen on time. Maybe you have a defective unit with a bad chip?
At work my phone lasts all day, recharge at night. On weekends I don't even charge it, it will hold a decent charge over a 3-day weekend. Running DK 3.0, nothing special beyond that.
hey guys, battery drains depends upon each and every single option you tap on ! even the signal clash may cause battery to drain faster and enabling mobile data wil drain much...
if you want your battery usage to be controlled, jus root your s5, and clock it using, no frills
you can flash a custom kernel to make it much better !
hit like if ths helped

jus uninstall the **** you've installed !
install no frills cpu or set cpu from playstore. it wil claim for root permission. grant it....
then keep set the maximum clock frequency values to the max and minimum clock frequency values to the min. and select governor as power saver....
learn much abt it in google
that's it...your're done.
hit thanks if ths helped

That is unusually bad. Even out of the box (with all the crap enabled) I could go almost all day.
gsam battery monitor, better battery stats, and wakelock detector should all help you find offenders. I also found the 'top' utility in elixir to be useful to me because I would see Security Storage peg the cpu frequently (phone would even get warm), but the other utilities tend to lump that in with Android System. (In my case that was mostly caused by the newest Amazon appstore app).
If you can't find a specific app that is a problem that you can just remove, the really useful tuning needs root, to freeze bloat, unbounce wakelocks (the Unbounce xposed module is the greatest thing since sliced bread), fully utilize greenify, and so on.
It's possible, if you got a used device, that you have a crappy battery (maybe someone bought a cheap knockoff battery and put it in there).
I'm not a battery saving expert by any stretch of the imagination...but I've been playing with my biggest battery consumer...
Google play services....
I shut it down for 12 hours today...and improved my battery life by 27% over yesterday..
Just my observation on one of the many services that force our batteries into extinction...g

laggy phone and same battery time

is it just me or the note 9 got same result with this battery ?
and more stuff all the galaxy was working the same, got nothing to do with the ram managment
when i change the wallpaper while im opening the phone i notice lag between the lockscreen wallpaper and the home screen wallpaper
and while im opening the app drawer (gesture swipe up) because the icon i have on the home screen not fit the position of the icon that on the app drawer it look laggy as hell !!!! why
with nova its not like that
Must be your apps, this phone is killing it vs a s8+ and no speed issues
I'm getting great battery life. Better than the Note 8 and S9+ that I had prior.
I too am getting almost the battery life on my S9+. Started 96% at 7am, 2% by 8:30pm (yesterday). I could be a new phone thing that I keep on using but not any much different with my S9+.
Not laggy though, except the camera. But seems to get better as I use it.
I am getting the same battery life as the note 8.
My phone does lag at times.
Most frustrating is the IPTV service i pay for getting it to work on the Note 9.
Works fine on wifi but doesn't work at all in regards to any channels working while on the mobile network (Sprint).
I didn't have this problem at all with the Note 8 and its not a network speed issue.
So far I have checked the permissions settings and tested other mobile apps like Verizon Fios that works.
It has to to be some setting I haven't found yet. I even tried the app through a VPN to no avail.
Weird
Which IPTV service do you have?
Eternal TV

Is this is a normal or any recommendation to do with battery charging?
My battery estimated capacity is 3,954 mAh.

Nova Launcher draining battery?

I've recently purchased Nova Launcher Prime and been using it for some days, I love how customizable it is, but I've also noticed that my battery drains A LOT faster, and also I've checked under the battery usage settings and the thing that's been draining the battery is the Android System. For example: if my screen on time usage is let's say 20%, the Android system is about 10% and when I use the Samsung stock Launcher the Android system is always about 1/4 or 1/3 of the screen usage (I know it's strange but that's how I meassure the battery usage). Also I use the rootless pixel launcher and Hyperion launcher and it only happens with Nova. (FYI I normally get around 7 or 8 hours of SOT and with Nova I only get about 5 hours max)
Any thoughts?

I have been using Nova Prime for many, many years.
Overall /battery wise, Nova Prime has never been
an issue.
However,
yes, a few times i did have issues with Nova Prime, draining my battery.
The reason I eventually found, was that directly / indirectly, the beta Nova Prime version (I'm a beta subcriber) was in some way corrupted or it was a bug or another app directly or indirectly, related to the functioning of the Nova Prime beta version.
Bottom line
is that if sorted out, Nova Prime should not be a battery drainer
See example screenshots
I'm using nova beta, and I think it is worse on battery than rootless pixel launcher from amirzaidi, which I'm back using again
I just wish you could lock the desktop cause my kids are always moving things .

I'm not a beta user, but still the problem persists. I read that it might be caused by the incompatibility of the At a glance widget, I've disabled it and nothing. But the weird thing is that I use that widget with all my other launchers and only with Nova the Android system tab is the one with a lot of drain.
To prove my point, I'm currently using the Launchair V2 and check the SOT and the Android system battery usage. Screen is 27% and Android system is 10% which is nearly a third. With Nova for example if the screen were 27% the Android system should be around 15 to 17% and I think that's a lot.

I think you should used more "Advanced battery apps"
eg Gsam battery (ADB method,no root, Play Store free)
BetterbatteryStats (ADB installed method, no root, Play Store,/ XDA forum
Wakelock detector ADB install method, no root
Play store /XDA forum
3C All in one Play store,
to analyze your battery consumption /drainage /use.
You should get more info, on type of wakelocks/battery drain etc.
I don't use or even look at my in buildt battery
app.
If Nova Prime launcher is causing
excessive battery drain then there should be a good
reason.?
The obove apps could pinpoint reason.
I believe most of the popular, Android launchers in Playstore is battery friendly /optimized.
As stated i have been using Nova Prime for many
years.
I have no battery drain issues presently and I'm using the beta that should have bugs etc.
The stable version of Nova Prime should be stable.!
Good luck.

I've used Nova Launcher Prime for a long time, at least 4-5 years. I don't use the beta releases but with the paid public releases I've never ever seen or experienced battery drain issues ever. My top battery drainers are screen on, and always on display. Everything else from there is virtually nothing to worry about.
One thing you may want to try if you haven't is go into settings>device maintenance>then tap battery in bottom left, and in there you can place all the apps that you don't need updates from or get messages from in the always sleeping apps catagory. The "Unmonitored" catagory would be for apps you never want put to sleep. I'd say 85% of my apps are in "always sleeping". Doing this should help save battery. Also running your display in FHD+ and not WQHD+ saves battery, black themes/wallpapers, and keeping screen brightness low will help too. One last tip is Uninstall any bloatware you can if not using it and if it's not removable force stop it, then clear cache & data and then disable the garbage.
As for Nova being a battery hog I'd have to say maybe there is some underlying issue or conflict. Mines been light on battery on all my phones.
^Excellent info!

Yeah, actually I've done all of those things, I have the "always sleeping" section with a lot of apps. But after reading all of your responses (which I thank btw) I think none of you have experienced my issue, because the thing that drains my battery is, after screen on, Android system, but only when using Nova. Because I switch to the stock launcher and boom, no more drain. And it's strange because I use the exact same apps with all the launchers. It's a shame, because I love Nova but I'd rather have my battery than a "good looking device".

I really don't know what else to suggest, but I can add a comment in the form of a question, aren't Electronics wonderful? Haha at times they seem to have a mind of Their Own and do as they wish. Sometimes it's the simplest thing we overlook that is causing the issue, and other times it is a hardware issue or conflict.
Here is my use all the battery you wish (Unmonitored) list & battery stats, check Nova.
And my phone info...
I wish you all the best, hopefully you will figure it out. Nova is the best launcher in my opinion when it comes to customizing the way your phone looks and operates. But like you said it would be better to have a phone with a battery that performs rather than a phone that just looks good.

Using nova launcher prime on my note 9....no battery drain at all compared to the stock launcher of the phone. That's where I experienced drain. Also I disabled the stock launcher from the apps. (force close)
I use nova launcher for a couple of years, since samsung launcher stop showing the notifications in some apps and lot of options missing.
and nova launcher show all notifications badges.
and consume very low battery.

Wow it's kind of annoying, everyone seems to have no problems with the battery in some cases even better. So I guess it's just me? Then again I'd like to remark that the thing that's draining my battery is Android System, not Nova itself. But it ONLY happens when Nova is selected.
I'm only bringing this up in case someone had the same issue and somehow figured something out.

I disabled it from running in the background

I wonder what can be the consequences to disable it since it seems to manage a lot of process.
I'll give it a try.

Actually guess what, I've done exactly the opposite, I turned on the background usage and it actually LOWERED the % it was taking compared to when I had that "running in the background" turned off...
Weird, you guys should give it a try.

Well, I notice it is automatically checked back on reboot so I won't bother myself more. :/

Nothing changed on my side when I turned it off. Just saved a little more battery life.
I also noticed a faster discharge when charging with anything except the original charger it came with.

Hey how are you, nova launcher drains a little bit but less than the stock launcher,
Did you restrict the background for nova launcher?

Thanks I have restricted too, but nova launcher is the main launcher, it always force a little bit in the background.
Only if we don't use the phone.
