Gps Indicator Always On - LG Thrill 4G

Hey guys,
I have a rooted thrill, and when I leave my gps turned on, there is always an indicator at the top of the screen like it is always in use. Anyone having a similar issue with their phone, or have any ideas why it is always running? It seems like it effects my battery life as well. Thanks

Sounds like you have an App running in the background that continually asks for location info.

Screen always on, where did you go?

Before 2.2.1, there used to be a setting that would leave your screen always on while charging. Anyone know where that setting has gone, can't seem to find it anymore? I know there is a screen always on app on the market, but I'm hesitant to use it.

nexus 7 not killing wifi during sleep after updating to 4.2.1

I have selected to never keep WiFi on during sleep yet now the tablet continues to run the WiFi as you can see in the pictures. This has forced me to use airplane mode when I am on the go because otherwise the tablet just keeps WiFi on and burns the battery extremely quick. This has been a problem since I updated to 4.2.1. I am not rooted completely stock. A solution would be great because this sucks right now. I have tried clearing the cache in recovery but that didn't solve the problem.
I'm running the latest Paranoidandroid ROM and thought that was the problem. I can't yet post to that developer forum so I was just waiting for the next beta.
I guess it's a problem with 4.2.1 then.

If you don't find a solution you may want to try DataEasyPro from the market. It kills both 3g and wifi as soon as the screen is off and then runs a user defined schedule to turn on 3g or wifi every now and the for a few seconds to keep you upto date with your social world. Works great. There is even a widget so you can turn off the schedule when you are downloading or updating from the play store.

I think it is a 4.2.1 problem. Its hard to say how wide spread it is though because I have only seen a handful of posts about this issue though. To me, this issue is unacceptable. I should not have to enable/disable airplane mode to conserve battery. Especially when the previous version of android prior to the 4.2.1 update handled WiFi sleep settings without a problem. Hopefully a fix will be here soon. My tablet used to have superb battery life without me constantly monitoring it. Now I feel like I have to keep double checking that I remember to use airplane mode so that I don't go to use the tablet and find a nearly depleted battery.

I recommend automate it, I have a couple of rules set to turn WiFi of with the screen (with a 5min delay), then turn Wi-Fi back on when the screen turns on. There's plenty of other settings and rules to play with as well.

In had the same issue. I found Google maps to be the culprit.
It defaulted back to location reporting.
Check Google now sync, maps and currents.
Sent from my Nexus 7 using xda app-developers app
It's not google maps itself, it's the android location service. It's always collecting data even if your phone or tabscreen isn't on. This is pretty anoying since google only let you choose between agreeing to run the service in the background or not using it at all. Stupid! How about collecting data only when the device is in use?
Same here. There is a bug report on Google about it.

Ah this is interesting; as last night my battery was on 53% and I am sure I charged it fully previously...... Am on stock too but have rooted.
Might just switch the tablet off all the time for the time being.
I'm on stock rooted 4.2.1 and mine is fine. Strange.

what is the OP using? Are there any apps installed/running on the OPs device that can keep the WiFi alive?

I highly recommend using an app called Better Battery Stats. You can find the free version here on XDA. It'll tell you if there is an app causing a wakelock. I used it to troubleshoot my Rezound and I'm getting a solid 4-5 hours of screen on time with the extended battery on that because it helped me lock down the apps that were killing my battery.

I'm stock rooted and mines don't turn off neither.

Hmmm. Just checked PA beta 7 and it's doing it too. Wifi on always.
A custom kernel would probably fix that.

I was having the wifi on issue as well. Just bought my N7, stock 4.2.1 and not rooted. I followed the tip in point four of this post, which details a simple set up using Tasker, where the unit turns the wifi on and off after the screen turns on or off respectively. The reason for the 10 second delay as is detailed in the link, is to allow for the turning on of your N7 to check the time or other reasons, and then quickly turn it off without the wifi on task being activated.
the screenshot below shows my wifi being stuck on while in sleep mode, even with it set to be never on during sleep in the settings, and the change in behavior once the 2 Tasker profiles we set up.
Cheers
Those of you having issues, have you tried the "only when plugged in" setting? Not sure if it would really matter but that's what I use and mine turns on and off just fine.

Testing that now. Turned off Tasker, and set wifi to the "only when plugged in" setting. It's only been about 30 minutes, but so far it looks like it's behaving the same as before, as in keeping wifi on while in sleep. I'll Let it sleep for a few hours and see what the chart shows.
Cheers
EDIT: So I let my N7 sit for about an hour after switching the above mentioned settings, and you can see in the screenshot below that the wifi is staying on while the unit is not awake. I've set my Tasker profiles to control the wifi once again.
I know it may be fixed by a factory reset, but frankly I'm more than happy with the way Tasker handles the issue.
Cheers
so 6 months later, I am still getting this problem. However it seems only to be with the last update. The tasker method seems to be working well though.

[Q] Weird Wifi behaviour, can't identify why

Hi,
I've been having some really weird Wifi behaviour since 4.2.1.
I'm using stock Rom, rooted, and I have Wifi sleep policy set to "only when charging", so it should go to sleep when idle.
I think something is waking it up, not sure what. And it's struggling to go back to sleep (or at least this is what it looks like).
Attached is the really weird graph of the battery stats, you can see an example of how Wifi is switching on/off like crazy. Also attached BBS logs from idle. Any help would be appreciated.
Thanks
Sounds like maybe a rogue app doing something to wake, maybe a sync issue.Try shutting off auto sync and see if it helps.
Sent from my SGH-I927 using xda app-developers app
So far no luck, but this was my assumption too. Any way to track down the rogue app?
Id maybe start with obvious ones like facebook and apps that have wifi permissions.I cant really say as I dont know what you using. Also if you are using an email client that accesses wifi to sync.
Sent from my SGH-I927 using xda app-developers app
I've found Wifi doesn't turn off for 5-15 minutes and sometimes NEVER since ICS. I personally use Tasker to turn off wifi at screen off, but Green Power or Setting Profiles Lite are two other options to do this, and actually do it.
IMO, if your device is going into deep sleep, it should be fine for battery and otherwise.
As far as the Wi-Fi behaving that way, look at Google maps, latitude and location reporting. They're the problems for me and I'm working on them as well.
Try diagnostic apps which tell you which app is using your Wi-Fi and check it out..

Insane battery drain

So I am getting an insane amount of battery drain when the screen is on. I checked the battery Stats and find nothing that is causing it. I am on att using 4.4.2.
Sent from my SAMSUNG-SM-N900A using XDA Free mobile app
Are you on the official 4.4.2 or the leak?
Have you disabled any of the bloat?
Restricting the background data of certain apps can extend battery life because it prevents them from syncing constantly. Don't restrict the background data of apps you want notifications from.
Do you have haptic feedback turned on? Do you have it set to vibrate when you get a notification? The vibrator drains a lot of juice.
Did it start after downloading an app, or out of the blue? If you've downloaded any apps recently try uninstalling them and see if it gets any better.
Have you tried doing a factory reset? It sucks setting everything up again, but it helped my battery drain issue a bit.
Do you have any of the gimmicks like smart stay/scroll/pause, direct pen input, air view, etc turned on? Those will eat your battery fast.
Is "turn off pen detection" turned on? If not, enable it by going to settings, controls, S Pen, and see if it's selected. It should be the first thing on the list.
Do you have it syncing the weather often? Do you have notifications for Facebook, Tapatalk, the Play Store, Gmail, Twitter, etc turned on?
Is auto sync, GPS, Bluetooth, NFC, or Wi-Fi turned on constantly? Supposedly keeping multi window turned on constantly will hurt battery life too.
What's your signal like? If you have very poor LTE reception your phone will eat the battery alive trying to keep LTE. If you live in an area with poor LTE coverage it may be best just to lock it on HSPA/EDGE. You can do this by going to the dialer and typing *#*#4636#*#* and a menu should pop up. Select device information, scroll down, and you will see a line that says "set preferred network type." Touch the box below that and a long list will pop up. Scroll to the top of that list and select "WCDMA Preferred." That will make your phone prefer HSPA, but it will still drop down to EDGE if necessary. You will still be able to receive calls. I've found HSPA to be good enough for browsing the web, posting on Facebook, etc.
What screen mode do you have selected? I saw a slight increase in battery life by setting mine to movie instead of adapt display. Just a heads up, colors will look washed out and bland. I prefer professional photo because colors are more true to life and still pretty punchy without being over saturated like the standard and dynamic modes.
Are you using a live wallpaper or a wallpaper with lots of bright colors? Using a darker wallpaper will help save power.
Which launcher are you using? One member found Nova Launcher to be the cause of their battery drain. If you're using a launcher like Apex, see if it has a setting to keep it in memory so your phone doesn't have to waste time/power starting it up again when you leave an app. I'd recommend Apex launcher. It has lots of customization and it's free.
That's all I can think of off the top of my head...
So... I have put in a new battery and did a factory reset. Still have insane battery drain. The one weird thing is I tried to root a while ago and ended up with a supersu app that cannot delete. My Knox counter is not tripped and I do not appear to be rooted. I am thinking if I can truly get my system back to factory it might help with the battery issues. I just don't know how to proceed without tripping my counter. I recently updated and I understand that can be an issue

Have you tried a custom ROM? Firekat and Dynamic Kat have both been pretty good to my battery so far. Have you used System Tuner to disable carrier IQ? Doing these things will not change the counter.
This one is a rooted KK stock NC2. Nothing to complain about.
I have not tried a custom ROM, but am more than willing. Can you reccomend the best method? I have seen a few different ways. Also, do I need to be rooted to disable carrier iq? I downloaded system tuner but can't find where to do it. Johndoe, where can I find nc2. Thank you so much for being so helpful and patient with my questions

[Q] Over heating issue.

Hey guys, I did so much of research about this issue before creating this new thread, but did not find anything helpful.
when I turn my phone's radio on and place a call it immediately turns hot within a minute and touches up to 60 degrees. And when I turn the radio off(airplane mode) it will be fine but stays warm when I use wifi or play any game. I don't have a service center for htc In my area and I'm helpless. is it a battery issue or board?
Thanks.
Have you tweaked your phone at all? Overclocking? Firmware/radio? You can test your battery to see if it's functioning properly.
Yeah I flashed viper one and I did not face any problem and no I did not over clock. I downloaded some battery app and it's showing the battery health good.
