Just called t-Mobile trying to get my handset replaced, I was told they are working with HTC and release a new software update. I guess this means a new ROM grade? Hopefully radio upgrade as well.

I have been very tempted to flash using a cooked rom, but there is a slight issue with me screen, a ghosting effect. Doesn;t affect the phone just a bit annoying. Just incase i need to send it back, that's why i haven;t flashed it yet.
I'll wait for the offical ROM release, see if this fixes my phone issue.
Anybody have some official news?
Normally TMob are notoriously slow at releasing new ROMs!
yea my MDA is slow and lacks long battery life but i'm scared to flash a cooked wrong as i've never done it before! I'm pretty into this stuff anyway (flashed ipod touch [+ dev for it] and my psp etc) so i know the basics, but is it really risk free, apart from the obvious stupid things?

Fella.. to be straight with you... HTC and T-Mobile SUCK when it comes to Roms.... They will NEVER beat what the guys from xda do with these Roms...
Try either Panosha "shine 1.6" with radio 08 or bepe's with the same radio ROM
you will be totally shocked with how fast these guys cooked Roms are...!
P.s And yes i do own a MDA iv on t-mobile...! and believe me the stock Rom SUCKS..!

Tmobile are planning a rom upgrade any day, the compact iv is actually out of stock beacuse the latest batch has been sent back to have the rom applied, so its doubtful you would get an exchange done in the next couple of days anyway.
Normally tmobile drag their heels with rom upgrades but I think the level of returns has meant that they need to do something and quick.
I'm on my 3rd compact iv but exchanging has been a nightmare as the exchange kept failing due to low stock, so chances are if you went for an exchange now you wouldnt get the handset replaced for a week or 2.
Hopefully the rom upgrade will fix your problems. You can of course flash a rom from here which are so much better, but some like to stick to the stock rom for warranty reasons.
For more info see this thread over at modaco I spoke to tmob for over 30 mins to get this info from them so Imm really hoping rom upgrade will be soon : http://www.modaco.com/content/diamond-diamond-modaco-com/271679/t-mobile-mda-compact-iv-recall/

I hate to disappoint you but that isn't true. There is no Compact IV ROM update in development. The next time you see a ROM update for this device it will be Windows Mobile 7, if at all.
Upgrades and warranty exchange stock are seperate entities, and the returns of the Compact IV are not really much higher than the average with any other phone.
Strange how you're on your third considering their' policy is to repair following the first exchange.

I have only used two cooks Rom, Panosha and bepe's. I personally thinks these two guys are the best cooks.. (some may disagree)
Look for Panosha "Shine on 1.6" and use with radio 5 or 8
Look for bepe's rom if i remember its called "belite" again use with radio 5 or 8.
Also remember use MUST use a hardspl rom before flashing radio and main Rom.
Believe me fella you wont get a stock Rom running faster than these two cooks mentioned above...!
Good luck and ENJOY...!
P.s Don't forget to buy the guys a beer...!

Goto diamond rom development...
Im currently using Panosha "shine 1.6" probably one of the best cooked roms..
you need to read up before you flash....
First off you need a Hardspl rom......
2nd you need to change your radio rom to either 05 or 08
3rd choose your cooked rom
P.s PLEASE do your research before carrying out any rom upgrades.....or you will BRICK you Mobby

I was wondering if someone can reccomend a hopefulyl unbranded Rom & radio combo that are known to work with this phone.. The gsm carrier I will be using is called Einstein PCS... But I think any one that works well for AT&T will be good for me as I roam i ntheir networks often.. I am not worried about the 3G speeds as my carrier doesn;t offer that, and I will usually just use Wifi anyways.. Thank you in advance...

Firstly, DO NOT flash a GSM ROM, or use any of the GSM unlockers. Head over to the Rhodium CMDA forum and use the tools there.
Secondly, just pick the ROM that you like the look of, there are some in the CDMA forum and a few more on PPCGeeks IIRC. It's not that hard, if you don't like the look of a ROM, change it, if you don't like any, put the stock ROM back on.

I'm happy to load it up and give it a go. Downloading now from here http://www.htc.com/au/SupportViewNews.aspx?dl_id=901&news_id=583.
I see it has a new radio version too - 4.49.25.77
Getting **** download speed from HTC server though - 10.2 kb/sec. Says the download will take 4 hrs! And I thought rapidshare was bad
Update: 32 minutes to go and HTC have brought out 3 new phone models since the download commenced )
Try the US server it is much quicker. I always find US downolads much quicker than Asian or Euopean - for anything.
I have the new "Unofficial" HTC SenseUI ROM which I like, so I don't want to try the Telstra one unless it is good. It suggests there is no Telstra customisation (a good thing).
I am not sure if the current ROM I am using is NextG compatible so that is the main reason for my interest in the Telstra one.

I think as long as the device is 850 mhz compatible then the ROM doesn't matter as far as NextG is concerned. The new radio version might be interesting though if it's especially written for the 850 mhz model. Anyway, I'll let you know what it's got shortly. I read somewhere that it's got a 'My Phone' tab in Sense that accesses stuff like Foxtel etc.
OK, so here's the lowdown....
Windows Version: 21881.5.0.84
Sense 2.1 19221417.0
Tabs: Home, People, Messages, Email, Downloads, Telstra Applications, TV, News and Sport, Internet and Search, Camera, Music, Calendar, Settings, Favourites, Weather, Stocks.
Yukky Telstra light blue wallpaper on Sense tabs (you can change it of course).
Hard to talk about reliability, but ROM appears to be very snappy, although older type 6.5 with 'start' at the top left.
Not sure why they would release a 'new' ROM with Sense 2.1 when the official HTC update contains Sense 2.5.
If you're a Telstra customer looking to access all of the Telstra Apps/Services then the ROM might be worth a look. If you're interested in cutting edge stuff, then give it a miss.
As mentioned earlier it does contain a radio that isn't in our sticky - 4.49.25.77 - so that might be worth ripping out.
Thx... think I will stick with what I have.
Can someone post a mirror or even a serial number for it.
radio please!
I assume this radio would provide better reception in Australia, I am a Three customer, if I download this ROM, I wouldn't be able to use all the telstra apps WOULD I??? like watch TV, FOX and all the fancy apps that telstra has pre-installed in the mobile device.... IF NOT! then can someone please get the radio out and post it in the radio section, would be appreciated by those of us who live "down under"... thnx in return!!

I have recently swicthed from Optus to Telstra (have a T7381) & thought would do the right thing and re-install telstra rom ... if you use GPS it takes ages(or not at all to get a lock) HTC have been working on fix for last month ... whereis navigator crashes regulary and the rom is full of 'non' removable telstra links... speed is fine (on par with HTC generic 6.5) ... just installed the NRG 21903 Cookie rom (first cooked rom on my TP2) and would highly recommend ...if you like a full featured rom
I happen to have one of the Nexus One developer phones with a CDMA radio. The software version is 2.1.1. I've tried updating the phone with new builds for the the standard Nexus GSM phone but it kills the radio (no signal and GPS) but otherwise the phone works (ends up being a Nexus Touch). So it seems that any software build has calls for a specific radio type and this phone will forever be on 2.1.1?
You need to get an updated radio build. The problem is - I'm not sure that the normal radio can fit your chip.
Thanks for the suggestion.
I'll have to do some more digging into this phone to determine the radio and then look for a phone with the same radio. Although Android 2.1.1 isn't all that bad and the phone works well.
No further development occurred on this Nexus Verizon phone after the plug was pulled in March 2010.

No, never sold. I was told that a few phones were produced with the CDMA radio for development testing on Verizon's network for any issues with general and 3G operation. They were not supported by Verizon. The Google Android hardware team provided testing and support until 4/2010.
I've just flashed the 2.3.3 OTA release on this phone and again it killed the radio but everything else works. I'll just use it on wifi since I've updated from my Eris to a Droid X.
Did you use it as a phone on Verizon? Don't you have to do the entire activate the phone thing with them due to cdma?

Yes, the phone was activated on my existing plan for awhile. Othewise the "Verizon Wireless" on the lock screen doesn't show up and you get nagged to activate each time you boot the phone.
I may ask the same original question of the thread on the developer's forum. It may have been better suited for that forum.
What about the radio from an Incredible? The N1 and Incredible are pretty similar... not sure man, I didn't even realize there was a CDMA N1 in existence.
i guess there is now way you can extract the radio image from your original ROM, then upgrade to gingerbread, then try and flash that radio image on top of gingerbread radio?
(maybe wont work if version numbers go backwards...?)
One of the pre-requisites for going to 2.2 and higher was an upgraded radio...
Sent from my Nexus One using XDA App
Yeah look at the Droid incredible radio's, being that's what became of the failed Verizon version?

For some reason, when I do an rom upgrade from a normal nexus gsm build, it doesn't write over the radio. The CDMA radio is still displayed on the Phone Info but zero bars of signal 0dbm 0asu readings.

My guess would be the Incredible too. There is the chance that if I flash the radio with an image that isn't compatible with the hboot, then the phone will be bricked. I did that with a G1. Since this phone has no published specs that I can use to compare the actual radio device against another phone, I'm hesitant to take the chance since 2.1.1 isn't all that bad. Even if I knew the chipset, I wonder if I would go for it?

You could always try and get some info from HTC. Can't hurt to ask them about the phone.
The chipset is QSD8650. I believe that's the same as Incredible. You can look in the Incredible forum and compare their radio build versions with yours - if they have the same structure, I guess you'll need to make some sort of a mix between Nexus HW and Incredible's Baseband drivers. I'm sure it's possible, it's just very hard without having the source.

My radio is 1.00.02.03.24 Hboot is the same for Nexus GSM, 0.35.0017 with MicroP 0b15. Looks pretty much the same as a GSM except for the phone.
Droid Incredible radio seems to be something like 2.15.00.nn.nn. Eeee, I'm scared to try it.
Oh well, thanks all for the comments and suggestions so far. Looks like 2.1.1 is it for this phone...

Radio update success
Bit the bullet and tried the radio.img from a EVO, which I found on XDA-developer forum to work with the Droid Incredible. Well, the phone still works, GPS and camera work.
Unfortunately, when I install a GSM build, the radio 2.15.00 still remains but the same problem with 0dbm signal remains. Even if reinstall the radio.img after the build, no success.
Maybe I should offer this radio as a prize for building a Nexus One GB image that works with an EVO radio image...
Got a Droid X as my phone now...
Wow you actually attempted to flash a new radio, and one from a different device?! And it actually works? You have some guts, nice work. This is actually good info for future android phones, now we know what might be possible.
Flashing radio is by far highest risk of bricking.

I was having problems with the signal on my phone while making and receiving calls with the radio that came with the latest update so I first flashed the radio from the GE 4.3 rom and noticed an improvement and signal problems so I then did the full conversion to GE rom and firmware.

Yeah Nexus, same for me - Ive tried around 4 radios so far and to be honest, I dont notice a great change in reception or speed in any of them, at the minute im on Google Edition 4.3 4A.18.3263.15_10.38h.1157.04L, which I believe is the latest GE Radio, but had hellish problems with internet last night in a low reception area ( 1 bar ), mobile internet was on/off - on/off constantly , but could make phone calls fine, anyway guys thanks to all of you for your input and it may be worth posting links in this thread in future, just to keep us uk users running on the best possible radio/
thanks added to all who posted, cheers guys
