a little tip - Galaxy S I9000 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I am sure some of you may already know this. But this is for those of you who haven't.
If you use a custom rom and find power widget not showing up properly, you don't actually have to reboot the phone to get it working. Just play a little with the display settings. What I did was turn off automatic brightness in settings>display and turn it back on. The power widget should now show up properly

Turn on wifi over status bar and it will show the icons on the power widget.

Thanks to share that information...

Wifi or bluetooth and it will show up just right... Strange behaviour isn't it?

Thanks for the helpful information !

You sure you didn't enable the swype notification bar to adjust brightness-setting? For that, just swype across it (from left to right to increase the screen brightness, from right to left to decrease).
Where i can turn off the swype notification bar? I didnt find it in the settings...
I got it in cyanogenmod 9 at System » Status Bar » Control Brightness.
I translated it from my languaged rom to English, so these might not be the exact words, sorry.
I found it..it was under system-statusbar-brightness....but it doesnt matter if it is on or of... if i swipe from left to right or from right to left nothing happens..maybe its a bug of cm10...

You need to hold the middle of the status bar, (not dragging it down) and you will notice a change in brightness after about 2 seconds. Then swipe to change the brightness via this method. I find this helpful so everytime you pull down the bar it does not change the brightness, however it is not the most convenient having to hold the bar down first. Hope this helps.
You are my Hero...it is working fine now, only thing i had to to is not setting the brighness to Auto, then the toggle works...

[Q] Power Bar on Start screen

Can I add a "Power bar" to the Start Screen? How?
A row of toggles to turn on or off, wifi, Bluetooth, GPS, NFC, airplane mode, etc...

Search "toggles" or "switches" in the app store, there's tonnes of apps that'll do what you need. They let you add individual tiles to the Sart screen for WiFi, Bluetooth, Data, etc so you can just set them to small tiles and position at the top of the screen.
That's what I thought. Not built in to the OS customization.
OK, Thanks

Would like to ad these toggles - switches to my new Samsung ATIV S, but cannot find any app store where I can download. Please provide a source to download - Thanks

[Q] Power Saver shortcut

Hi all.
Does anyone know of a way to turn on the Power Saver with 1 click from a shortcut on one of the home screens?
It's in the extended quick settings of most custom roms, so I know a 1-click solution must be possible, but couldn't find anything obvious on how to do it. I'd just like it as shortcut on my home screen (& also as a result be able to run it from tasker!)
Any ideas?
Col.
Bump...
Still can't find a way to do this.
As I said above, i'm sure there must be a way to do it, otherwise how could custom rom's extended quick settings (ViperOne rom is a prime example) activate it with one click
Any ideas anyone?
Maybe there's a shell command that would work?
With 4.2.2 you can activate it only in settings or with the viper in the EQS.
But also in other rom if you will change the EQS number
Two fingers swipe from notification bar and 1 click-Power saver on/off !

Yes, I am currently running the ViperOne rom & that's what made me think it could be possible. On ViperOne's EQS, you have one click to turn on the Power Saver. It doesn't open the power manager app and "click" the button to turn on the power saver, so logically there is some code in the Viper EQS that can turn on the power saver directly. I wanted to know if that could be done in a separate app, or what the direct command is (shell command?). With an app or shell command, I could turn on the power saver from a Tasker profile.

Didn't know about the 2 finger swipe though... Useful, but again isn't quite what I want. Thanks though.

I don't know if it still works.. I haven't used it in years, but have you tried setting up a shortcut via the AnyCut app or other similar applications?
EDIT: Appears AnyCut is gone. QuickShortcutMaker from the Play store is another being recommended according to my googlefu.

Tried that, there is a way to get a shortcut direct to the Power Settings app, but not to turn on the Saver directly. Lots of other direct shortcuts though which may be useful in future!
Still searching...
Anyone got any other ideas or know of a developer to pm?

Tasker will do it:
Create a task called Power Saver (or whatever you want) and select 'Load App'.
Check the 'Show All' box in the app list, and Power Saver Settings becomes visible.
Should have a home screen shortcut to toggle the power saver mode.

That's what i'm doing at the moment, but it only opens the power saver settings, i still have to "click" the button to turn the power save on.
I can't find a power saver widget on my rom (ViperOne)...should there be one?

Was considering sending a pm to one of the viper developers...but I'm not sure if that's really "allowed"

I see. Well you could try Power Toggles app. I used it for a while and it is very good. It should allow you to use a widget to toggle the power saver mode.

Yes, and it works!
Credit to @j to the 4n
As I said in the ViperOne thread, the precise shell command that worked on my phone was...
sqlite3 /data/data/com.android.providers.settings/databases/settings.db "update 'system' set value='1' where name='user_powersaver_enable';"
value='0' works for disable as well
and my recent comment....
colthekid said:
After some testing on this last night I can confirm what @j to the 4n said, it is turning the power saver on (you can see the screen dim after 20-30 seconds), but it's not immediately updating the quicksettings icon, although again, it does update eventually (especially after a screen off/on). The status bar notification also doesn't appear. However if, as said above, you open the power settings, the notification appears and it also updates the quicksettings icon.

Status Bar always visible

I was looking for anything to make the status bar visible when I turn off the screen.
Like, I turn off the screen and I can still see the status bar.
Is there a way to do that? Does anybody know anything like that?
Thanks!

There is option of daydream in screen settings (in android since 4.2 or 4.3), where you can enable basic info to be shown when phone is charging or docked. I use it and it looks nice. However it is not possible while phone is not connected to anything.

Always on display for notification?

Hello,
I know the pixel 5 has no notification led, but I read is supposed to have Always on display (ambient display?) to show notification when the screen is turned off.
Right know, I see no indicator at all for any kind of notification.
Do I need to activate it anywhere? I can't find anything about ambient display or always on display in the settings. Do I need external software like AOE or such?
Cheers
There is no such thing sadly. I use "allways on amoled" to turn the screen on if some notification comes in. Its free and easy to use

That sucks.
Can't believe this is still a thing in 2020.
btw I'll try to configure AOE and see what happens. :/
Er, the AOD shows notification icons for me... Do you have notifications on lock screen turned off, maybe?

No, "show notification on lock screen: show all the contents from notifications" (is translated, may be different)
What do you see exactly?
static/blinking icons on the black screen when the phone is turned off?
Is there a video showing this?

I see a large-ish digital clock, then on the next line the day/date, a weather icon and the current temperature, then on the next line (currently) three notification icons - Facebook, Gmail, and another random app. All centered on the black screen, all in white apart from the weather icon.

Same for me. I can see if there are notifications on the AOD
The Autor asked for a way to only turn the screen on if a notification comes in, not allways. And the Stock System doesnt has such an Option, you need to use a third Party App for this.

This is true, but actually my system AOD wasn't even working properly until I rebooted the phone.
After that, I saw the clock with wheater info on the lockscreen and yes, it has the notification icons too.
Then with the premium version of AOE I kind of achieved what I was asking for. So I disabled the clock and now when I got a notification, it blinks around the punch hole with different colours based on the app.
Cheers

I just use the built in "Wake screen for notifications" setting. It turns the screen on when new notifications are received. Is that similar to what you're looking for?
Just make sure to have ambient display option "always show time and info" switched off.

Yes but it last only a few seconds. Then blackscreen (unless you show the clock/info panel).

I think you are looking for - under Settings/Display/Advanced/Lock screen = wake screen for notifications.
https://forum.xda-developers.com/pixel-5/themes/notifications-charging-ring-camera-hole-t4176509
And there is this app https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=host.stjin.cometin

this doesnt help, because when a message arrives, the display only a few seconds is activated. Then it switches off automicaly again.
