I have nook ver 1.3 stock. I have also made a bootable Clockwork recovery SD card. Is there a way to use this sd card to root the device and install CM7 to the emmc?
I assume I need to root the device. New to the nook.
You don't need to root to install CM7 from a clockworkmod micro SD.

I suspected that. So the new ROM and CWM recovery will be installed to emmc? It seems like this maybe the easiest way and best way to go back and forth between roms/stock, rather than rooting it and doing it internally. Agree?
I love this device. I may pick a second one up from ebay (B&N refurbished).
CWM won't be installed, but you can install that with ROM manager once CM7 is installed.

Thanks. I assume this can also be done with CM7 variations, ie, phiremod and miui, right?
Yes but once CM7 is installed (which is rooted by default) it's much easier to just flash new roms using ROM Manager. I recommend getting the premium version if you want to install nightlies.

got you. I already have the premium RM. Thanks
one more question, booting from the sd card and the CWR on it, I format data, cache, emmc, boot and system andthen flashed phiremod rom. somehow my wifi settings and wallpaper were saved. I thought I would get a setup screen. Is it because these roms are not rooted and it's just being installed over stock?
I thought those settings were saved in /data. Hmm.
In the future, I wouldn't recommend formatting anything other than system when you flash a new ROM unless it specifically states to (which it shouldn't if it's a well written rom ).
It sounds like you didn't actually format those, which would definitely be a good thing, especially for EMMC.

Had a few heart stopping moments as the script hung until I realised that while I had download the SDK to get the USB driver I hadn't actually installed the driver for the phone.
Confirmed that it was rooted by downloading Titanium Backup and doing a backup.
For a new ROM (as yet undecided) is a Titanium Backup good enough or should I also do the cyanogenmod clockworkmod recovery?
Should I be able to restore my apps and settings after the new ROM using the Titanium Backup?
You wanna do a Nandroid or Full Image Backup with Clockwork. Titanium is just as you said apps and data. Although, I think CWM has a system bu option. Don't use CWM anymore use Amon_Ra. So not up on steps. The post 3.0 CW's have had issues and are documented.
You can restore apps and data at any time with Titanium, but I think to do system stuff you need to be restoring to same rom.
I highly recommend Nandroids and sdcard backups before doing any new flashing.
Start with CM7 roms the stable ones, then move on. Read OP pages fully and scan threads front to back for info/problems etc

use the pre 3.0 versions
Let's try Amon_RA Recovery
Best recovery by far. Never any issues. Been using this version for months and months. Perfect with flashing, backing up, restoring, and partitioning.
are you experienced with fastboot commands adb etc
The downside with Amon_RA is it doesn't give you the option to wipe the /system partition. I have stuck with a pre-3.0 version of ClockworkMod for this reason. There is a new recovery out there called 4EXT that is based on ClockworkMod, but doesn't have the issue with corrupting partitions. He has also added a TON of new features. This does seem to be the best on out there now. He even just released a touch-based version. The thread is in the development section.
I just bought my self a new 16gb sd card. I was wondering if there was a way to make cwm backup my nandroid to my external sd card as opposed to my internel one?

Can I just install this over the current version of cwm Im using? Will it effect my current rom?
The new recovery from thecubed (5.5.0.4) let's you pick between internal and external(default). If you're using another recovery for some reason then just use a file explorer app to cut and paste from one location to the other.

Yes you do have to be rooted. You get it via the market or sideload it. You can do neither without being rooted.

I C. Thanks leapinlar. And oh the excitement over Eclair. Wow how far we have come. Remember when multitasking on Android was new (Recent Apps Window in ICS)? Even that feels like it was ages ago.
Sorry for bothering.
Tried with Samsung 32GB Class 10, no go. Was that one supposed to work? Considering it's a high-class, I assume not, but I'm not sure. Gonna buy a class 4 sandisk, I guess. The thing is that I'm not sure I'm doing the installation correctly because the first option is to adb but that doesn't work when the tablet is in recovery. It should be the same thing because the adb is just pushing to the root of the card. Sorry for bothering.

ADB is not working with CWM because the driver address is different. Search some of the HD+ threads for instructions how to fix this. You can also use a Mac or Linux to copy the file.

The screen dims, the logo doesn't. It says cyanoboot for as long as I leave the tablet on. The installation was successful. I'm using the "cm-10-20130120-UNOFFICIAL-ovation" zip. I still don't have adb working in CWM so I made a "CM10SDCARD" folder and put the zip in there. Then I booted into CWM and flashed it. I also tried just keeping the zip in the root of the folder.
Btw, just wondering, are we ever gonna get a full CM10 installation, on internal memory?

You made a CM10sdcard folder where? On the boot partition? And you were able to find it with CWM to flash? I'm concerned that you did not really flash it. You did use verygreen's CWM, not mine, right?
Edit: Now that I think about it, I know that is what you did, you used my CWM. That explains everything, the symptoms. Otherwise you could not have found that zip on the boot partition with CWM. And my CWM does not partition the SD for putting a ROM on it. The installation zip would install the boot files to my CWM but since the rest of the SD is not partitioned, not the CM10 files. So when cyanoboot comes up, there is no CM10 to load. So start over burning his CWM.
And don't get in a hurry for CM10 on emmc. It won't happen soon, if ever. Remember emmc has a locked bootloader.

Thanks leapinlar. I'll try today. Yeah, I know the bootloader is locked. I wish CM would pick up the HD+ and HD, but that's not gonna happen. Both are absolutely solid devices. WE NEED MORE DEVS! That's not to say that you're not awesome. Do you think a newer release of CM10 than the one I plan on flashing is satisfactorily stable?

I use 01-08. It is very stable. I get an occasional reboot, but the newer builds reboot a lot for me.
And remember, if CM picks up the devices, they still need a local dev to maintain the device specific needs. So you are no better off than you are now. The only difference is automatic nightlies, which are now weeklies now for CM10.

That is what I meant when I said earlier that you could not have been putting that CM rom on the boot partition. That is why you need ADB. Either that or Linux. They are both hard to do. Look in verygreen's thread over the last few weeks. There are instruction there by users. His instructions are not very good.

This too hard to explain to you. I hate explaining to people how to make it work. I spent weeks explaining and re-explaining how to do ADB. Everyone's system requires different steps. I recommend you look on the web on how to make an Ubuntu live CD. You just make that CD and put it in the CD drive and it boots to Ubuntu. Put your card in the card reader and it sees the partition it needs to be copied too.

Actually either verygreen and bokbokan released sdcard builds of cm11 for ovation, but they were updated last november.

There are no instructions for SD card install in verygreenÅ› thread, but I think you can follow the same procedure detailed in cm10.x sdcard instrucutions.
I did a CM11 install that is in leapinliar's post, was pretty easy to do.
If I wanted to update to CM12.1 or put twrp on what would I need to do?

I think leapilar listed almost everything useful to nook hd(+) in his signature.
IIRC, I took these steps to have both recovery and rom in my ovation emmc:
1) create a micro SD card with a recovery (you probably did it already when flashed cm11)
2) Download a newer (cm12 compatible) recovery and copy to sdcard (I'm using emmc twrp 2.8.6.0 built by amaces but there are older builds compatible, including cwm)
3) flash recovery (it'll replace nook stock recovery with the one you're flashing. People says it may be more difficult to fix your nook in case you experience emmc issues. I've never had any issues so I can't tell)
4) reboot to newer recovery, wipe /data, /cache, /dalvik-cache and /system, then flash cm12.1 rom with cm12.1 gapps (cm12 gapps won't work in cm12.1 and vice versa)
PS: I'm afraid .img files aren't flashable via recovery. To flash 2.8.6.0 I used Flashify. You can get it in play store and use it if you are rooted. This will make the process a lot easier since you won't need to prepare an sdcard.
