Hello,
To begin with I read the "Samsung letter codes to check firmware compatibility" and still need to ask this question in order not to do anything wrong.
My phone is a Galaxy S GT-I9000 (PDA : JPF - Phone : JPD - CSC : JPF (mid)
) it's on froyo 2.2 and I got fed up with this lagy/hangy version .
Could you please advise what is the best version of Gingerbread compatible with my phone ?
Thanks in advance for your advice.

Hi All,
I thought its wise to post to the forum so that masters can guide me. Situation is I got an SGS of UAE and it has no market. Kies says no update can be performed on this device.
I want to get Market on this and I am using this in India I want to shift to Indian / ASIAN ROM. I tried registry hack, but didnt work. I tried to just flash the CSC-xxxx.tar.md5 using ODIN , even though everything was successfull it showed back the same details.
Here are the details:
Gt-I9000
PDZ:JG8 / PHONE : JG2 / CSC : JG9
PDA : I9000JPJG8
PHONE : I9000JXJG2
CSC : I9000OJPJG9
Any ideas how I can come to Indian / Asian ROM and have the market installed ?
Thanks and Regards
Ravi.

Flash DDJG4 from samfirmware
Or you can just do this...
1- in the time settings, use 24 hour time format ( u can change it back after you finish)
2- in the dial pad, dial *#272*ur four digit time#
3- a menu will open, choose xsg then intall the market.
ps: this will wipe ur device, just make sure u bakup.
This will change your SlideME to Market... solved my problem!

maybe one of this, but the CSC must be for a specific region. PDA and PHONE match yours.
cheers

Go to samfirmware.com and download the correct firmware to suit your country then download Odin to flash the firmware on to your phone. There are plenty of guides on this forum so follow them and you will be fine

Hi,
I currently have 2.2.1 PDA I9000BVJS4 / PHONE: I9000BVJP4 / CSC: I9000ORAJS4 and i want to switch to stock 2.2.1 . My phone was bought from an online shop, not from an operator and it was not branded. After the 2.2 update via Kies i had a FW similar wich ended in CNX (Vodafone Ro, it might be I9000HKDCNX, not sure about it). Can you give me some pointers about which version of 2.2.1 should i flash it to and a guide how to do it ? last time i tried i got to the S of death and the only way out was a friend of mine which could only install my current firmware.
Thanks!
If you want stock 2.2.1 then search for EZBase. It has everything you need to flash to that with clear and very easy to follow instructions.

How can EZBase help ? from what I read it makes easier to switch between zipped roms.

Ezbase is basically stock + root,

humm, i don't want root, basically i want my phone to be in the optimal condition for warranty
Then go to samfirmware.com and choose appropriate firmware

As i descriped in the OP I am a bit afrade of flashing it without a proper descriptiun. Diggin in the forums and apropriate usage of the seach box lead me to this thread: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1100906 ; i'm going to try it on monday
That looks like good thread, hope it all goes well, pm me if you have any problems

Optimal would be one the firmware that came with your phone or its updates via Kies ..
Second option would be current firmware Samsung stock rom version that matches your location .

Flashed to JPY as described above, set CSC to XEU and updated via KIES to JVO all's all right.
