Want to know if unroot is possible here. - LG Optimus Black

Hi there,
I bought an Optimus Black rooted and it has several programs and stuff.
At the beginning didn't care too much about it, but now I realize that I cannot use my gmail account because it always asks for the previous owner account, and searching I found that I need to factory reset in order to change default gmail account.
So I went to reset and it goes to a clockwork recovery program and I'm not able to select any option because it's asking for E: from previous owner (I found obvious I think), so I had to reset the phone and nothing changed when it comes back.
As you can see I'm totally noob with these android mods, but I was an experimented SE/Nokia user, so phone modding is not new to me in some sense, meaning I can learn quickly.
My question is: Is it possible to unroot my phone? Although I don't have any kind of recovery data, backup or history of what has been done in this phone.
I don't care about software already installed, as I mention I can start over again with my own style.
I'd appreciate your help here so I can start safe.
Thank you.

what ROM do you use?
check it in setting-about phone
if it's 10a/b, you can unroot using gingerbreak

LOL, made me check deep to see what is my phone.
This is what I found:
Android 2.2.2
Base band XMM6160
Kernel 2.6.32
Compilation FRG83G
SW Nova v7

If it's Nova then SU is preinstalled in the system. Even you factory reset it SU will be there as well as preinstalled app that came with it. Might as well flash a stock (KDZ) if you want a fresh one. Cause Nova depends on SU for some apps.

Sorry for late response, I was pretty busy in other stuff.
Understood. It is possible if you can point me out to a specific tutorial to start how to flash a stock, as you mention?
Thanks in advance.

Not necessarily. For reasons that are beyond me, I was unable to root my v10b OB using Gingerbreak v1.20, instead using SuperOneClick v1.9.5 (not v2.2.1) to do that.
I do know that, supposedly, for v10a and v10b Gingerbreak should work and that for v10c+ Blackjack or SuperOneClick v2.2.1 should do the trick. But none of those worked for me.
Just pointing that out.

Thanks guys.
I followed that link and searching on it I found this tutorial:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1111771&page=3
Three questions:
If I follow it and I flash the kdz that I choose (local carrier), I will get my fresh phone? Even that I have SU, Nova and Clock recovery installed?
Is it ok if the kdz file for my local carrier is V10A_03.kdz? Instead of V10A_00.kdz
What if I try gingerbreak and select unroot, then factory reset? SU will remain?
Thanks again for your help.

1.) Yes, you will get a fresh phone, but with no root access, and with the stock kernel and 2.2 Froyo on it.
2.) No idea.
3.) Not sure Gingerbreak will work for your phone, but if it does and you unroot, clearly the su will not work anymore. That's what the root is all about, granting you, the user, the lowest level point of access, and if you unroot, the application will no longer be able to reach that point. So SuperUser and any other applications relying on root access, such as SetCPU or Terminal Emulator etc. will not work.

Quick question.
I couldn't make factory reset due to Clock recovery, as I stated in the first post. How should I do the "wipeout all data before start flashing" ?
My goal is to change default gmail account in order to install more apps, but I'm not able to do it because I need to factory reset. Maybe there is another way instead of fresh flashing.
Thanks.

if you are root (I think it's your case):
- install "rom manager".
- in rom manager : choose "restart in recovery"
° if you don't have recovery : it will do a factory reset
° if you havec recovery installed, use the volume key to navigate to the wipe option and wipe everything (except sd)

since now I'm in vacation so I'll do some tests this week and see if I'm able to compile an unroot process file

hello, I also have problem with rooting as well
I have the ver 2.2.2 10D
the link for the blackjack is not available to download
I have tried to fool the server which not allowed me to download the file
but the file size which I download is different than the stated size which 4.9mb
I can;t start the program, which do not seems to be doing anything
and the help (explanation) for blackjack program are very limited
any ideas

well there is no really explanations needed. just enable usb debugging, plug, and launch the process.
were did you get the one you have ? here the link
actual blackjack is v1.1 in 1.54mo. the file is a part of UPK

this is what happen when I click on the link
"This service is temporarily not available from your service area"

[Q] HTC HERO 2.32.651.2 Root Help

PLEASE SEE BOTTOM OF OP FOR STEP BY STEP WALKTHROUGH
Hello Guys,
I’m a Sprint HTC Hero owner who is trying to get CM 6.1
My device has the latest OTA update 2.32.651.2
I went ahead and tried z4root which has 2 options, temporary and permanent. Went ahead and did temporary and it stated that it was rooted. Superuser shows up in my apps, so I went ahead and installed ROM manager as a youtube video said (gave a full successful walkthrough)…I open ROM Manager up and it says – You must root your phone for ROM Manager to function. Superuser was not found at “/system/bin/su” or “/system/xbin/su”.
Now using Astro File Manager, I checked those directories and it wasn’t there as ROM Manager stated, but in my SD Card, I see su-2.3.1-bin-signed…
Now my question is, should I try it with permenant root?
If not, what is the recommended next step?
Should I delete/uninstall everything I have that’s related to my previous root attempt and do the following:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=804296
I’m an Accounting major and a noob at this stuff…and I see people helping each other out here which is awesome, but I get confused trying to keep up with some posts where people are sent to other posts and so forth :/
Thank u in advance! Happy Holidays!
-------------------------------------------
Below is the process on a step by step basis from which i was able to complete it with the help of skndeep102. Thanks again buddy!
-Download z4root here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=833953
-Install and run app, press on Permenant Root
-Let it run until it says it has completed
-Once it has completed you will see the Superuser app in your drawer
-Download Rom Manager from the Market
-Open Rom Manager and press on Flash ClockworkMod Recovery at the top (give it a bit as it has to download it and then install)
I had already downloaded the CM 6.1 rom and had it on the SD card
-So i went ahead and hit reboot to recovery in ROM Manager
-Once it is in recovery, go ahead and scroll down to Nandroid and do a backup
-once you do a back up press back and reboot
-Once it starts up again head over to ROM Manager and select Install ROM from SD Card
-Look for the Rom, select it, and it asks you to Wipe Device and Cache, select both
-It reboots to recovery, select the rom and install
I hope i didnt miss a step, but thats pretty much it if i remember it correctly (spent much more time reading than actually doing, lol) Also, if there is something that isnt touched upon here just go ahead and read through as several questions were asked and answered along the way.
Hope it helps!
* Process confirmed to still be working as of 1/5/2011

i am in the same position...the recommendation to me was to RUU to an older version and then root. I am not sure how to do that, so im hoping someone has another solution.
I personally dont trust those one click root options. Manual root requires a little more reading but I have never had an issue that way.
You can always try the permanent option. I dont see why you wouldnt want permanent anyway. If you use the temporary, its gonna unroot you when you reset your phone.

Did the permenant root allow you to continue with the process?
RUU back to an older version just requires that you have the htc drivers installed and the ruu exe. You just double click the ruu exe and follow the instructions.

Wait and see at this point, i guess...
OK so I did the permenant root...and appearantly it worked since z4root is telling me it is and it now gives me the option to re-root and undo root...Also, when I open Rom Manager, it isn't telling me to root the phone...
However, I saw in another forum that a way to check if it is rooted is to download a terminal emulator and type in "su" after the $ ...When i do that it tells me permission denied....
What next?

It says that I must have ClockworkMod Recovery installed to flash and restore roms.
Where do I get this?
Just a heads up, it seems the root works, the su file is in bin and i tested out drocap2 screencapture app and gave it superuser permission. Worked perfectly...now if i could know where to get ClockworkMod Recovery as the Rom Manager I got from the market did not bring it :/
Use the "un-option" and try another method. I installed a stock ruu on my phone this morning to update my prl and tried the same app. It doesn't flash everything you need like the "flash_image" file. You need that to flash a recovery. I just re-rooted my phone the same way I did back in July. Take note that I am with cellular south and all I had to do is run a batch file and oila, there I am sitting in recovery. If you want to try another "root via app" method, you can try this-->View attachment UniversalAndroot.apk .
Instructions:
Open app and root
Download Rom Manager(which you have) and flash cm recovery.
I still think it probably won't work, but you can try anyway. I think these "rooting apps" only do enough so you can use apps like "AddFree"(or whatever it is) and others like it.
EDIT: In Rom Manager, the very first tab(up at the top) should say"Flash ClockworkMod Recovery". Press that one. It would ever flash for me until I went back to me nandroid.

Happy Holidays btw...
Just a heads up, what worked for me, once I was rooted and downloaded ROM Manager I had to install Superuser.apk, then when I tried to flash clockwork recovery I got the Superuser dialog box asking for permission, then select allow. another awesome program to help is Android Commander that you install on your PC and it provides a gui adb access but you have to have sdk and adb installed on your pc, but if you look around there is info about it available. hope this helps, wish i had more time but i was just home on my lunchbreak, good luck

[Q] LG Thrill GB w/ClockworkMod Recovery

(Obvious Noob warning---) A friend helped me root my Thrill, install ClockworkMod Recovery, and then install CM7 on my Thrill. But I would like to try the LG GB release. Is it necessary to backtrack all the way back to stock to do this (i.e. reinstall the stock ROM, reinstall the stock recovery, unroot, etc.)?
My friend tried using the LG upgrade tool on his LG phone without going back to stock and ended up bricking it. He says that usually within a few days of release, a CMR compatible zip file (usually already rooted) appears here on XDA (I haven't seen it), which makes things easier (but obviously he didn't wait for it himself).
Will a zip be possible for the Thrill GB? (The file seems quite large (420MB), so I'm guessing there is a lot of media included.) Or should I just bite the bullet and backtrack?

Trojan?
Sorry, but as a noob, I can't post in that other thread.
It seems that the shttp3.exe in the LG Flash Package triggers Symantec's trojan detection. Some searching seems to indicate (assuming I'm reading all the cryptic virus sites correctly) that there is something to this, although it seems that different scanners find different trojans/viruses (can't post the link, but Google for "shttp3.exe" and "trojan"). I also found that the web site for this utility is blocked at work, because it's a "malicious site."
Has anyone seen this? Has anyone been able to verify/refute this?

PS: somebody on here has written a script that just uses shttp temporarily while
your doing the flash procedure, and then reverts your host files back automatically after your done. You should try it.

I'm sorry I can't give the link yet, but if you'll Google you'll see Comodo classifies shttp3.exe as "ApplicUnwnt.Win32.ServerWeb.SmallHTTP.~A" or "UnclassifiedMalware" (I guess depending on the version). A number of scanners find issues with shttp3.exe. I'm not saying it is infected, only that it is doing something suspicious.

shttp3.exe is in no way a virus. I've scanned with AVG and MalwareBytes Anti-Malware and they check out good.
Back to square one
OK, I seem to be stuck.
With paranoia in tow, I decided to take the long way back to stock. Unfortunately, when I tried to restore the backup of my stock image I made to SD card after installing CMR, the md5 checksum failed. I'm not sure what I can do about this.
So ok, I tried following the above link. The first step is to ensure the su binary is up-to-date. But when I tried this, I get a failure downloading the manifest. This is true for WiFi and HSPA+. I Googled and found a suggestion to delete the su binary. But that didn't help (I'm not sure how it would have helped anyway).
So back to the original question. Can I use the LG upgrade process to upgrade without going backwards (as you can see above, I can't) without bricking the phone? Can I start at step 3 in the link above and succeed?

You should just put your phone in recovery mode and update through the tool

Can you be a bit more specific?
1. By "recovery mode," do you mean into ClockworkMod Recovery, or I should revert to stock (I made a copy of it after I rooted the stock ROM, but before I installed CMR)?
2. By "the tool," do you mean the official LGMobile Software Update, or the LG Flash Package referenced in the link above?
3. By "latest update," do you mean the file directly from LG, or the copy (v20p) linked from the link above?
4. If the latter in both previous questions, which set of steps do I need to follow from the above link? Can I do only 3 (LG Flash Tool), or do I need to follow 1 (Recovery Manager), 2 (Returning to Stock), and 3?
My friend had a different LG phone, with ClockworkMod Recover and CM7 installed. He reverted the CM7 to stock, but did not replace CMR with the stock recovery. Then he used the official LG upgrade method and bricked his phone. I'm trying to avoid this.
Are you saying I don't have to worry about this on the LG Thrill 4G? Can I go straight from the current CMR+CM7 configuration to the LG GB release using the official LG process?
If you mean I should use a different process, can you point me to it? As I mentioned, I run into dead-ends using the method linked above. And I'm not even sure whether I should be doing steps 1, 2 and 3, or if I should just use step 3.
Any and all help is appreciated, but I guess I don't understand the shorthand you're using here, so if you could be a bit more specific, I wouldn't feel so lost.

Remove your battery and keep the phone unplugged
Launch the mobile updater tool
Hold the volume+ button plug the phone in and keep holding the volume+ till the computer downloads the drivers your phone is now in download mode
Once the phone is picked up go to customer support on the LG updater tool and click on recovery phone put your imie number in click check (make sure its the right model) an let the updater tool do its job. Once its done flashing launch into recovery volume- plus power plus 3D button do a complete wipe and factory reset and reboot your phone ... you'll lose cwm and root and be back to full stock

Bricked?
No joy. Following the steps, the upgrade stopped at 6%. Trying a number of times, it eventually forced me to exit the program (no more restarts). Rerunning the updater (and downloading the 420 MB image yet again on a VERY slow connection) I tried again and again, with different combinations of battery and plug order with power and volume buttons, but nothing worked. Checking elsewhere I found some issues had been reported with Windows Vista/7, so I tried on an XP machine. Now the "Start Updating" bar is red (it was always gray with W7). But now when I try to restore (or even update for that matter), it asks for my S/N (it never did that before) and then says it is "no longer able to upgrade." Reading around, it seems this is an indication of the device being bricked.
Rick
It sounds like you are very close to getting it working Rick.
My update did the same thing, looped over and over until it
finally kicked me out. Just plugging and unplugging the phone etc....
And when my update stuck at 6% the last time, i took my battery out and then in real quick and that seemed to work.
Does the phone still vibrate when you plug the usb cable into it while holding volume..? If it does then I highly doubt that your phone is bricked, just in a semi flashed state....No worries
Should Rick be trying to run LG Updater as administrator ? I didn't, but it might not hurt.

And when my update stuck at 6% the last time, i took my battery out and then in real quick and that seemed to work.

I tried a bunch of different combinations...none seemed to make the app happy. I finally punted Windows 7 and moved to an XP machine, only to get the "no longer able to update" message. At that point I assumed I was screwed (effectively bricked).
Does the phone still vibrate when you plug the usb cable into it while holding volume..? If it does then I highly doubt that your phone is bricked, just in a semi flashed state....No worries

It never really vibrated, but I was able to get back into CMR. Unfortunately NONE of my backups work at all. They all have MD5 checksum failures. I tried a trick I found online and got past that step, only to have it say a failure restoring /system. So much for CMR.

Which step? As I mentioned above, I can't even get the first step of the first section (updating the su binary). And if I start at the 3rd section, Symantec prohibits me from using shttp3.exe (I tried to unquarantine it, but it gives a permission error, even as Administrator, when I try to run it), so I'll have to use a different machine.
I was able to reinstall the CM7 3/15 release, so that's something. I was going to restore the stock recovery backup I made, but even that doesn't seem to work. I'm having issue with backups :-(
Rick
i have never been able to restore a backup. i dont know why... but i have tried several times in several different instances.

[Q] I can only send a text message to 10 people max at one, why?

Hi, when i try to send a text to multiple people with one text message, I'm only allowed to send to 10 people max, is there a way to get rid of this?
Cheers.

I believe this could be a limitation of the ROM or the service you are using. Search the developer forum for a ROM that gets past this limit and check with your phone service provider (I read somewhere that Verizon has this limit, but can't vouch for that as I am in different country)
thanks, but I am new to this whole android world, this is my first android coming from a nokia n900.
I have been reading, but it seems I need to root my phone which is now difficult because as soon as I received the phone i updated it and now have the kernel LA6 instead of original LA4 which is more difficult to root.
As for the thread you provided matius44, does the .apk file only work with ics roms or can one install it with just a rooted GB rom.
----
Just so I can be sure, I do want to root, but I'm slightly confused, is it correct in saying that I need to downgrade the fw and kernel to an older stock rootable rom then root the phone? or is this wrong?

That used to be the case, but there is now an easier way which flashing pre rooted ROMs directly and you're good to go, here is the thread:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1535025
As for the .apk mod, I never tried myself honestly but there are versions for GB and for ICS, any .apk with ZCLP in it's name is for ICS you don't need that, take the other ones
I've tried dr. ketan's way and it didnt work for me, maybe i didnt know what I was doing,
Ill try these pre rooted roms, I just basically flash them to the phone, does all my data in my phone get wiped off clean? if so, what do i use to make a backup.
btw sorry for all these questions.
and thanks in advance.
It's been that long since I rooted my phone I've forgotten how to do a backup without rooting! Titanium backup needs root.
Have you tried booting into recovery mode then doing a backup from the menu that appears (vol up+home then press power until Galaxy Note boot screen appears then let go of all buttons) I'm pretty sure you can backup from there.

You can have it either ways, wiped clean or not, up to you..
At the pre rooted ROMs thread there is a screen shot showing the three file you will find in the zips and the places they should be put at in Odin, if you do NOT want to wipe your data do NOT choose the CSC file, only flash PDA and phone (modem)
Or you can use Titanium Backup to backup your user apps only, do NOT backup system apps but your settings will be lost of course
Your preference
EDIT: Sorry forgot you don't have root lol! Sorry have no idea how to backup without root, try the poster above me suggested
Congrats Matius! 1000 posts! That is great work!
no you can't backup using that method, it just give me options to reboot, wipe everything off and some other things. all i need to backup is mainly my contacts and some data, ill try kies.
Kies should work. I wish I could remember what I did to create the backup - I've done a quick google and only found using adb and a terminal prompt, which I have never used. A quick search of Google Play shows some that may be worth a try and are free.
Wish I could be more help but for the life of me can't remember what I did that first night with my Note and got it to backup.
Good luck with Kies and enjoy flashing ROMs!
even kies doesnt work. i think astro backup will backup my files, as for settings ill just have to deal with it.
OK - good luck!
BTW - If you get heat issues after flashing - don't panic! Leave the phone off for five to ten minutes to cool down then charge it for an hour with the screen off. I found this was my biggest worry when I started flashing. Got really hot - thought the screen would melt. Now I just use the above process and never have problem.
All the best!

[Captivate] I need massive amounts of help.

Ok so I am a complete noob when it comes to this stuff I am very sorry but I will need a big walkthrough on this. OK I'll tell you where I'm at. I have a Captivate (ver. 2.1 Eclair) and I want to update to the latest version. I tried getting Keis and Keis Mini but neither of them recognize my device. I have a Mac computer and I installed the drivers for the phone but that did no good Also, I would like to root my phone to get non-market apps you know, but all the flashing and which program to use is very confusing to me. Just reading the forums trying to help myself just makes my head spin. Which do I use? Heimdall or Odin? What is the safest way to backup my phone incase anything goes wrong? I've been trying so hard for months now but I still can't get anything accomplished. I just need someone very experienced to teach me, a person who is almost completely new to all this tinkering and etc. Thank you guys so much!
Can't help with Kies and updating. I've never had a Samsung phone. Sorry.
No need to root to get non-market apps. Go to: Settings > Security > Unknown sources and check 'Allow installation of non-market apps'. However, installing non-market apps can be risky and is NOT recommended.

Ok so I just rooted my phone. Not sure how I can tell I did, but I did. Since I have a Mac, many forums are no use to me. Especially when flashing (p.s. I don't even know what that means) I downloaded the latest Heimdall on my Mac, but I have no idea how it works, or how to get ROMS. What do kernals do because I see those are needed? Also, when I rooted my phone, aren't I able to install non-market apps onto my phone? Because I have a .apk file for the Amazon Market app on my internal SD card but it still doesn't allow me to install it.

Purchase these 2 app's from the market. You will first need to set up a Google account and a Google Pay account.
Mobile Odin
and
SuperUser
You need to root the system before installing SU
My only concern is being able to instal non-market apps. How will I complete this using these two apps? Is there a specific ROM I need to download?

No, installing these 2 items will unlock the phone. It will also make it possible to install a rom whenever you want. Superuser access is what allows you to use the app's you are looking for. You need Odin installed to install superuser.
Also, I bought both of the apps. I couldn't get the update for Superuser Elite, and Mobile ODIN doesn't work because it says it can not find the Mobile ODIN package...

Ok so, I know the best way to be able to install non-market apps is by flashing the rom Cognition, but the download is no where to be found. but before I get the ROM I need Rom Manager right? I got it, but can't use it because I bought it without getting the free version first to get the actual files. Why? because I figured my device isn't rooted. If I were to root the Captivate, I would be able to download the free version. I tried rooting with the One-Click root that I downloaded, which is the only one that I saw on the wiki that actually seemed plausible. It doesn't work. It is supposed to push an update.zip to my SD card and it is there. but when I go into Recovery Mode, the option to choose the Update.zip isn't there. So know I know what I need to do.
1. Find a working rooting program for my mac
2. Get the free version for Rom Manager
3. Find a link and download the Cognition ROM
4. Flash the ROM onto my phone and then I should be able to install APK files from my SD card right?
ugh....

What you need to do is go to the Captivate section of this forum and install Apex 12.5. It has a one click Heimdall package. Put your phone into download mode by holding down both volume buttons and plugging it into the computer. Follow the instructions and you are now running a custom ROM.

Please be careful in your recombination. Also once he has 10 posts he can ask further questions within that section.
@ the OP:
1st of all, why is it SO important to be able to install non-market apps?
2nd, no offense but you don't seem to have the knowledge or skill level you should really have before attempting to root your phone. So...
3rd, do some research & reading. Make sure you fully understand the terminology and procedure for rooting your specifc phone.
4th, have a recovery & rescue plan ready in.case things go wrong. And be willing to accept the consequences.

Can't root GT-S5570

I'm a newb, so don't jump at me if the solution is simple.
I tried rooting my Mini(GT-S5570)using different threads around here, and none worked. I have tried booting into recovery mode and installed 5 different root packages, none worked. Superoneclick is unavailable(none of the download links worked, also tried googling for it, nothing). I'd like a tutorial that can work, since i'll add some infos below why it might not work.
I am running an android version made for vodafone germany, with 4 system apps that are vodafone only and can't be deleted
maybe the version number can help :
PDA: S5570BUKT2
Phone: S5570XWKT8
CSC: S5570VCRKT2
Edit: I want to go with the "flash cwm with odin" then flash rom, but Odin doesn't pick up the phone in download mode, only in upload mode(when I boot with volume up+home+power button). I installed Kies for drivers, so I don't see how I could've gone wrong
Same issue with my friend anyone can resolved this kind of problem?

I can't use any custom recovery since I don't have it rooted(it's the default one I think), and I am not getting any error whilist installing packages, the superuser icon is there, just it still says my phone doesn't have root permissions
If you have a 2.3.6 Android, then the attached files will root (pop) and unroot your phone to your will.
"Copy the pop_2.3.6.zip file to the root of your SD Card. Make sure you do not extract the contents of the zip file. Just copy the zip file to your SD Card.
Boot your phone into recovery. To do this, turn off your phone and press the OK button and Power button. You can release the buttons when you see the Samsung Logo to enter the recovery mode.
From the recovery menu, select “Apply update from SD Card” and choose the zip file you downloaded in step 1.
Flash the zip and then choose “Reboot system now” option.
After your phone reboots, check if you have the superuser Application installed"

Some more info:
http://androidsu.com/superuser/
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.noshufou.android.su
I remember it was a bit tricky, still it seems your phone IS rooted (if you installed pop_2.3.6.zip from recovery). Updating supersu from market means the binary portion is not up-to-date, that's why IMO you have to update binaries. So click on the supersu icon, and find the "update binaries" option (needs internet connection).
If it fails, have a look at
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.noshufou.android.su.fixer
Don't remember if I needed it or not with the pop_2.3.6.zip.
BTW, if your Mini is out of warranty period, why don't you put something bloatware-free on it? (with Odin)
I can highly recommend TassNewExperience v.10.1 final2,
or newer CM 7.2 clean of 18.05.2014.
Both shall (most probably) fix your problem with rooting, both are fast, stable, battery-friendly.

Is your phone sim-locked for Vodafone network? If yes, go to Vodafone to remove sim-lock prior to anything.
Here is a decent ROM to start with (I've been using it for half a year):
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1648213
and there are working links in the second post, that I followed myself, explaining howto.
Here is a more detailed guide for flashing CWM recovery:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1342190
IMHO you should put unbranded, stock Gingerbread ROM in your Mini before trying to flash CWM recovery.
Remember to make a backup of your data, my recommendation:
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.idea.backup.smscontacts
and perhaps a "dump" backup of the partition holding IMEI of your MIni (you have to look for details - keywords efs and/or stl5).

I used Odin in WinXP, have no experience with Win8 - only heard most of the older stuff didn't work in Win8. So you might be pioneering Odin in Win8
But there is another way of rooting Android devices, introduced last year, with a universal chinese soft. As the soft is new, could work in Win8 (it only roots the devices). Don't remember the name of it, there was a lot of info on the Net in the second half of last year. It worked for some no-name tablets of my friends.

Well, I'm not a pro in mobiles software - but having the info given in my last post, it's just a minute googling to find:
http://www.3ptechies.com/mobile/android/vroot-rooting-method-for-android.html
http://www.mgyun.com/en/GetVRoot
The orig. soft is in chinese, but used it without problems "the monkey way".
That gives you root - and nothing more (but should be enough to play with Android till the end of school
No help with Odin in Win8, sorry.

Weird. Perhaps (as above) it is in fact rooted. Try to unroot with unroot zip, and give a chance vroot again?
Unless there are some more residuals of previous attempts of rooting, and they interfere? Back to factory settings after unroot.
Or check which superuser u have on your Mini, and put binaries as zip from recovery? as in the first comment here:
http://androidsu.com/superuser/
And last but not least, it shouldn't be too difficult to put some old WinXP on an old disk/partition just to use Odin. And taking into account your first post "I tried rooting my Mini(GT-S5570)using different threads around here, and none worked", perhaps your Mini is so messed up that Odin is your only option?
Anyway, it's a mystery, and would really appreciate if you keep us informed of the progress.
