Question about nandroid back up of .886 - Motorola Droid Bionic

I permarooted .886, backed it up in nandroid, then installed reblurred V2.0 a few days ago. Today I backed up reblurred, reinstalled stock .886, installed 5.5.893, then 5.6.893. Everything went fine, then nandroided reblurred back again. But I forgot to make a nandroid of the new stock 5.6.893. If I ever need to can I go back to the original .886 backup without detriment?

yes but you will still be on the .893 kernal and radio. so if you went back to the .886 you will have a hybrid with886 softwear and 893 kernal and radio

Thank you for the reply. I'm sure if need be there is a d/l of the 893 system software I could use. I know the one click restore says it can be used on both 886 and 893. Wonder which it's based on?

[Q] what to do now?

tried to restore stock with one click and it wont flash the boot.img . Said something like INFOPreinstallaton error. Cant root either. What to do?
Well, first off, your question is in the wrong thread...it will most likely be moved soon...
second....did you update to .893?
Edit: if so and your bootlooped.... this is the one you want http://rootzwiki.com/topic/7801-roo...v10-linuxwindows-get-root-after-893-ota-oops/
ill move my questions. Sorry! Yes and no. Did forever root, flashed update, flashed liberty rom. Then i noticed the version was back to 886 so i tried the oneclick instead of backup and thats when the error for boot.img showed but everything else flashed. My phone is running but i cant root it shows an error as well. thanks for the reply.

when you flashed liberty, you flashed .886 system, but the .893 kernel and radio remained. not sure which one click you used to lose root, are you sure you lost root? if, so.... this is just my opinion and what i would do....I would run th3orys and dhackers fix above and flash 2.1 when it comes out.
i will try that. Thanks for the info.

Repercussions of going to .893?

So I rooted, using one click method, backed up stock .886 and installed blurry 2.0, based on .893. I know now that the kernal and radios are changed from .886. Does this render my stock back up of .886 useless? Also, what if the OTA update coming in November is actually different than .893, will I be able to update to what ever that may be?

I would take an educated guess and say yes your 886 backups are trash, but don't take my word on that.
If you made those backups through ROM Manager, you're in luck.

That app can extract apps, contacts, and SMS/MMS from Nandroid backups done through ROM Manager.

Im loving blurry just fine and see no reason to go back, but I just hope I didnt cut off my nose to spite my face in regards to future updates.
So I did a data reset in bootstrap, and reinstalled my stock .886 back up, and it installed fine. Rebooted and everything worked as it should.

If you just install 2.0 over stock, you do not get the .893 radio or kernal. You only get the system. To get the radio and kernal you need to to go back to stock, do the permanent root method, install the cheesecake app, then update to .893 through cheesecake, and then flash 2.0. If at that point you flash .886 again, you would have the .893 radio and kernal, and the .886 system. Because the bootloader is locked, you cannot flash a new kernal or radio via cwm.
Sooooo by flashing blurr3y 2.0 in cwm I never got .893 radio/kernel?

Thanks for putting that guide up Tivo. I figure when the next update comes out, you might have to be back with the .886 and I was wondering whether there was a way to downgrade the radio and kernal to stock after going to .893.

The next update IS 893, I've already gotten confirmation of that.
Rootable?
Tivo, will the new bionics being shipped with .893 be rootable? Will they need to be rolled back per the method you detailed here ?

We will have to wait and see what root methods work after the ota is released. Painfully to wait, I know.

It will revert you back to system 886, but your kernel/radio will stay with whatever update you installed. I currently have a hybrid going on. 5.5.893 system and 5.6.893 kernel.

[Q] Restore 902 from CWR?

I Just installed 902 yesterday from rooted 901 and the 1st thing I did was make a "nandroid" back-up. Tonight I dropped my phone and shattered the screen. I had the loss/theft/damage insurance and they are sending me a replacement phone I assume it will come with 5.5.893.
Should I be able to root it and install CWR, and then just restore my nandroid and end up at 902 rooted?
You'll need to root, forever root, and apply the 902 update first. Than install CWR and restore your nandroid. As far as I know, nandroid doesn't handle kernel/radio, so you won't truly be on 902 if you skip updating to it.
Thanks Joe, now that I think about it, I'm sure you're correct.

missing safe backup

Eailier today I decided to ditch Eclipse 2.2 and go back to my BU of Kin3tx v1.0. So after performing a backup of Eclipse I proceeded to do the 3 wipes and format system and went to restore Kin3tx and notice I only had one restore file in the safe system and check nonsafe system BU and that still had the stock BU I did along time ago. So I just went ahead and restored the phone to Kin3tx since Eclipse was missing. So to my question, Does Safestrape only keep one of each system for backup or can it do more. Not to worried since I don't switch roms that often, but would like to know? Thanks in Advance.

Did you check both external and internal storage?

[Q] Already rooted, flashed ics, now back to normal but what about old Safestrap?

I recently rooted my bionic, then, thanks to crobbs, flashed ics .232 onto it. during this whole process i safe-strapped a recovery to my sd-ext. i then heard that ics should come out no latter than Sept. 30th.(if Motorola and Verizon come through) so i decided id go back to the stock version so i could get the ota update whenever it came out. i went back to stock using the fxz tools and im back to .905 GB stock un rooted. (or so i hope, not to sure how to tell if im on the ota)
***My main question.....since i still have my very first original safestrap recovery saved....if i was to root right now and use that original safestrap recovery, would i get everything i had from my old phone back just the way i had it when i first safe-strapped?
