So my apologies if this has been covered, have seen similar things but not quite the same . . .
been running decrapped. (was on revolt 1.0 or 1.1 a while back, but went back to decrapped.)
so . . . restored my original v4 backup from june, system and boot. wiped data.
and now it won't update! when i go to settings --> about phone --> update --> check for new, it downloads, but when the phone reboots itself, it says update failed, and i'm still on v4. tried it a few times.
also, lost clockwork . . . tried to reboot into clockwork, and when i said "yes, wipe data and return to factory settings", it didn't go into clockwork, but actually wiped data and returned to factory settings.
what am i doing wrong??!!
thanks!
Sounds like you need to download the revo stock you need to make sure everything is back to normal for some reason even if the boot.img. is different it won't update

Or you could follow these instructions. I did this going from Revolt Rom 1.5 to V4 stock then upgraded to V6 then V7.

First off, thanks for all the work you have been doing!
I have used LGNPST to first goto V6 with no luck, so I then used LGNPST to get to V4. I was unable to get the update with either one of these installed.
I then rooted and used your CWM zip posted earlier today, rebooted and used your RevoToolKit to reinstall the stock boot image. I even went so far to uninstall RevoToolKit after putting the stock image back on the phone thinking LG could tell I had it??
No matter what I do, when I choose "Software Update" "Check for New Updates" it still says nothing is available...
...Maybe I should get the original Moto Razr flip phone back out of my closet...
You want to make sure you uninstall CWM and revert back to the stock boot before you run the update from Verizon.

Is using RevoToolKit and installing the "!!!REVO STOCK!!!" the same as your reference of the "stock boot?"
Maybe I am making the assumption than the RevoToolKit's, "Revo Stock" image is correct, when in fact I should just leave the stock image that comes with LGNPST???

I did NOT use adb, and used CWM to restore the nandroid backup. SO either option apparently yields same results.
Maybe this issue stems back to the first day and first root of the phone and doing something different. I would assume using LGNPST would get the phone to its truly stock form though... ?

Worked for me, thanks mt!
Was a bit confused as to how to remove clockwork and why it disappeared on me earlier, but I think the answers to those questions are one and the same. (I'm not used to revotoolkit, rooted and installed cwm before revotoolkit existed and hence never installed it until today . . . )
I skipped flashing your revo stock zip, assuming my original back up would be good enough, but apparently I was wrong.
Looking forward to gingervolt!!

When you use the RevoToolKit to flash the stock boot image, you are replacing (removing) the CWM recovery. It is all one step essentially.
The instructions to 'remove CWM and reinstall stock' are actually 1 step.

right. that's where i got confused, never having used revotoolkit!
you hit "install clockwork recovery" at the bottom right, choose !!RevoStock!!, and reboot. this will both install the stock recovery and delete cwm.
I couldn't update to v6, either. but following mt's instructions worked. it's essentially what i had tried previously, though i had restored my own backup of v4 rather than flash the zip mt posted earlier; flashing the zip made the difference.

At the very top of rom manager, you must flash 2.5.0.1 recovery. Did you do this first?

This exact same thing happened to me. What I did to fix it was pull the battery, then wipe everything (dalvik, data, cache), and then rebooted. My phone was able to boot then.
I'm having the same problem with rom manager. I just rooted my desire using the unrevoked method, then ran rom manager. I did install the recovery mode first, then backed up the rom. How my desire is just rebooting to the htc screen. How do I get out of this?

Hey, that's exactly the same issuing I'm experiencing now. Did you solve it? And if yes, how?
Well, a few hours later I solved it by restoring a backup and then booting went well. Also described in a thread on androidforums dot com (I can't enter the link here due to not having posted enough messages) .

I don't know if this helps, but I'm pretty sure nandroids are specific to which recovery they were created with, I read that somewhere a few days ago. If you did not have clockwork before, I would try getting the recovery you used to make the nand, install that recovery and then restore the nand. Then try the whole wipe everything and get clockwork and go to town. If you haven't tried RA/Darch 1.7 recovery, I would recommend it, I personally like it better than clockwork, it seems faster, and simpler to use.
Exactly What "Il Duce" Said Will Fix Your Problem, Same Exact Thing Happened To Me, What I Did Was Go Back To Previous Version Of Rom Manager Then Flash Alternate Recovery, AND Regular Clockwork Recovery, Should Be Good After That!

Am not sure I did; I think it asked me if I wanted to back up the current rom and I think I clicked not to. Either way, I cannot do anything in CWM, what ever I choose gets stuck at the little hat with the arrow and I have to pull the battery.
It's not a big deal (I hope at least) to revert back to an original image, as it's my back-up phone so I don't use it daily. Hope it's easier than that though..
I would say reverting back to an original image via the passimg trick would be your best option right now (unless your bootloader is unlocked?)

It is unlocked. Any magic trick..?!
EDIT: I can enter the options in CWM. Being used of the Atrix I was pressing the on/off button instead of the trackball to choose. Ffs.. Anyway, I tried wiping the data, no go; still stuck on bootscreen
I would try restoring a backup if you have one. If not, just do a wipe and clean install...
Unlocked bootloader could've been used to install a new recovery, though that now looks it was operator error... xD

I have kind of the same issue but I am still stuck..
I have an unlocked bootloader and rooted atrix, everything was fine until I installed gingerblur through the cwm ( I chose to install from the sd card ), once I did that it finished what it was doing then I used the reboot feature through cwm. My phone is now not moving past the motorola dual core screen. It still says unlocked at the top left and I can still enter cwm and fastboot. I have read alot about trying to flash through fastboot, but I am sorry I am a newb and do not know how to flash through fastboot. I am desperate for help... any help would greatly be appreciated.
If you can still access recovery, I would try a full wipe and instal again...
Thank you for your response... I did as you said and wiped everything... found a .zip file for android 2.3.4 gingerbread and installed that through cwm. I now have a new question... what is the best way to create a nandroid backup?? I went in android recovery mode on the boot screen and proceeded to backup through the menus and saved it to my external sd card... the only problem is that when I tried to restore back to the backup I made before it kept giving errors while trying to install the backup file. Any ideas how I can successfully create a android backup on this ATRIX 4g??

Ok so I have successfully rooted my phone after updating to Gingerbread. However, I had a few issues and had to read through a bunch of different posts to get there. So I'm bored and decided to consolidate everything into one.
If anyone has any other issues or fixes post them here and I will update the OP.
Credit goes to mtmichaelson and all those who helped get this working
http://androidinvasion.us/forum/index.php/topic,77.0.html
Here it is:
1. ROOT PROCESS
A. Get back to Stock:
-download the stock Zv4 ROM zip from here and put it on your external SD card- http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1326893
-Back up all your apps in titanium (important: USER apps only, no data or system apps)
NOTE: It has been reported that restoring apps and data in titanium may cause some issues coming from Froyo to Gingerbread. I backed up my user apps only for easy re-install and NO data or system apps. It worked without a problem.
-MAKE SURE YOU HAVE 4G ENABLED
-boot into recovery (CWM)
-backup?
-factory reset
-select "install ZIP from SD card" in CWM, and install the stock ZIP from the link
-re-bootyour phone (you will have to re-activate it as well)
-install revo toolkit from here if it was wiped with the system reset - http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1144951
-press "install recovery" and then !!!Revo Stock!!! to go back to stock recovery and wait for it to complete
B. Update to Zv6 then Zv7 (Gingerbread)
-manually search for the update and install it (this will install the v6 update)
-once that installs, manually search again to install the gingerbread update
NOTE: Some people still can't get gingerbread. Verizon has not finished rolling the update out to everyone yet.
Now here is where it gets a little dicey...
C. Rooting Your Gingerbread Phone
-pick up the rooting package from mtmichaelson here - http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1326509
-follow the instructions he has on that page to obtain root
-Two issues arose for me from this point on.
2. ISSUES
A. Drivers Issue
-The first issue was that some people, including myself, couldn't download the esteem drivers.
-Some people were able to get the drivers from this page to work - http://androidnerds.net/2011/10/08/lg-esteem-oneclickroot-now-ready/.
-I was not able to get my computer to recognize my phone using the above drivers either. I would run the root command from the downloaded package and it would get stuck at "running daemon something something".
-What I did was manually uninstall the LG drivers from my computer and deleted everything "LG related"
-Then I got the drivers from the LG website at this link - http://www.lgforum.com/resources
-Scroll down to the Verizon section and download the "LG_VZW_UNITED..." drivers.
-Your phone should be recognized using the drivers from one of these links.
B. Superuser/Root access Issue - NOTE: this should be fixed now with mtmichaelson's newest root method found here - http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1326509
-The second issue that came up was that the previous superuser app I had installed stayed on my phone after the updates, even though I lost root.
-The root command from the LG Esteem page would think I had root, but I actually didn't get root access.
-Apparently this issue came up on the Esteem previously and someone wrote a fix for it here - http://androidforums.com/esteem-all...-w-superuser-3-0-6-binary-3-0-3-download.html. It will uninstall the old superuser and install the new version.
3. INSTALL CWM RECOVERY
-mtmichaelson's new rooting package should automatically install CWM recovery on your phone now.
Old method:
-To get CWM back on your phone it's the same process as before the update. Get the Revo Toolkit from thecubed here and follow the instructions - http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1144951
-There is sometimes an issue where the recovery does not install correctly and gives a fatal error. If this happened, make sure you have version 1.17.1 of busybox installed at system/bin. This worked for me and I got it installed correctly.
...And you should have root after trying a combination of the above. Hope this helped.
-If you have READ through this and still have any issues you can get more personalized help on the IRC channel here.
-Again I did not help with any of this, I'm just consolidating info. If you want to thank someone, thank mtmichaelson and everyone else who helped figure all this out.
-I will keep updating this as new issues arise.
Thank you for compiling this information, it is a useful reference for people to have. I know that the drivers issue took me quite a while to work out even though it is pretty simple. Hopefully this helps others to get rooted with much less trouble.
Quick question using that stock ROM will it completely unroot me?
Also a bit confused with me running revolt does that mess up me just flashing that and it has the stock boot image.

It depends on you connection speed. If it's 3g a while. I recommend doing it on 4g or wireless. You also need busybox installed in the right location. Install the version 1.17.1 in system/bin. The newer versions of busybox may work now but they previously did not.

It looks like it's a common problem. I haven't installed the ROM yet but mt's new gingervolt rom is supposed to make CWM stick - http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1326542
Ok so I'm a complete and utter noob when it comes to CWM etc. Never had an android device before this one, never flashed a ROM.
I've got a pretty good grasp of whats going to be happening here, but I'm a little skiddish.
I'm on stock GB with root, at the point where i'm supposed to install CWM with the RevoToolkit. In the RevoToolkit instructions, thecubed says "If no version is listed, STOP and post here.". Well, no version is listed, presumable because i'm on a GB stock recovery. Do I stop here, or do I proceed with installing clockwork recovery?
Specifically, RevoToolkit reports "Version Not Found".
Advice?

Awesome, thank you for the quick reply. Another stupid question that i'm sure is answered somewhere on here, but what exactly will I lose when flashing a ROM, and what will I be able to restore back with a backup?
First I would like to thank PlayfulGod and mtmichaelson for the development that makes this work. The other credits as mentioned in the bat file are djrbliss, DRockstar, koush, Raidzero, thecubed, and firon.
This All in One will root, unroot, install and uninstall CWM without any pre setup on your V8 & V9 Revo. Super easy!
I modified the LG-Esteem-Revo_AIO.zip to work on my Revo and thought others would find it useful. I modified the bat file and moved a few things around. I tested all of the options on my V8 Revo. When using this your phone will reboot several times during the process. Please note that your phone needs to have USB Debugging enabled and the phone needs to be in Internet Connection mode.
I am NOT a phone expert!!! So please remember that if you have any trouble!
Please give all credit to the developers as shown above.
The original file was no good. Sorry!

Filefactory is adding the ' before and after the file name. I have NO idea of why. Just rename the file without the ' and it works as expected!
I added another copy of the file here:

CWM would NOT work on my wife's rooted Revo after using this tool. I had to use the LGNPST tool and replace the V8 software. Worked perfectly afterward! Rooted and CWM V8!!!

Has anyone tried this yet? I'm trying to get my ZV8 to root, but I don't know how.

Make sure you backup your current setup before trying any new root method. Ive been saved countless times by this and some people are just to lazy to let the phone backup for ten minutes, because they get over excited by being able to root a new version.

just tried it, went straight to zv8 and rooted with esteem aio, works perfect thanks so much
I uploaded another copy here:

Hope it works better.
My vz9 OTA keeps failing, even after running Stock Recovery in this AIO...others having the same issue?
---------- Post added at 02:16 PM ---------- Previous post was at 02:04 PM ----------
also, when I choose the "Unroot and Stock Recovery" option it says:
"The system cannot find the batch label specified - UNROOTSTOCK"
ok I downloaded from the newer box.com link and that solved the cannot find the UNROOTSTOCK issue. But I still cannot successfully push stock recovery. It says
# is not recognized as an internal or external command
I tried it on my Revo. I got the same message. When the phone booted back up it had the stock recovery and root was gone. I don't know why the message shows up but the result was correct. Hope it helps. Hopefully someone with more knowledge can improve this. I put CWM and root back on without a hitch with option 2.
I successfully reverted back to stock recovery using this thread's AIO - I chose option 4 for stock recovery. I didn't chose 'unroot and stock recovery'. After that the OTA successfully pushed VZ9 to my device without error and I re-rooted using the Esteem root method here:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1621625
After that, I used this thread's AIO Option 2: root and recovery to get CWM back. root just failed because I was already rooted using the Esteem method but CWM re-installed.
Only hiccup is after I re-rooted, my phone booted and hung at the black screen after about 3 seconds of the intro splash. I hard reset and restored all of my data (cwm - advanced restore - data only) using a CWM backup I did just before beginning. Maybe if I wiped dalvik and cache before starting it might have prevented that bump in the road?
All good now: VZ9 rooted with CWM and my phone and data just as it was before the OTA.

When you did option for to install Stock Recovery did you get the "# is not a recognized internal or external command" as part of the activity string?

I honestly don't recall. My phone did reboot 3 times and the final command line message informed me that stock recovery was installed. Aside form that, I didn't pay much attention to the string messages.

Does this work with Broken Out? Or were yo running stock when you used this?
My Revo is Broken out and works fine.
My wife's Revo is stock and works fine.
I have a heavily modified version of BO and after trying both option 4 and 5 the update failed.

Yeah same for me man. I had to use LGNPST to go back to V7, then did OTA updates to V8 then V9. So I am on V9 now unrooted, and stock, waiting for MT or someone else to do a V9 ROM...hopefully I don't have to wait long...BING SUCKS!
Recently rooted my phone. Using rom manager tried to install Cyanogenmod 7. Seemed to work but then got stuck on CM7 load screen. Restored my phone using the backup i had saved with Clockworkmod recovery v6.0.1.9 and everything seemed to be fine but it won't boot past the LG screen and im not sure what to do from here

There seems to be a lot of problems with the new 6. recovery. You may want to install an older version which is an option in rom manager. Perhaps v5.0.2.7. Question, fo you only have one rom backed up? If so it may be corrupted. You may have to use the lg updater tool and upgrade to gingerbread to restore if you only have one rom backed up.
Also if I understand your post you installed cm7 and it was stuck on the load screen. Did it ever boot fully? If not on cm you have to do a factory data reset before booting or it will just bootloop.

I did the factory reset and it did fully boot up once briefly but unfortunately the phone ran out of battery and i havent been able to get it past the CM7 logo screen since. While its in the bootloop I can get it to connect to the the LG support tool and start the update process to get it back to Gingerbread but at some point it fails and says it cant connect with the phone. At this point i dont really care what i have to do to get my phone back. I didnt see the option in rom manager to install an older version.
UPDATE:
As i was typing this i retraced the steps and now CM7 is up and running on my phone but so far its unable to connect to the network.

Ok. On the thrill, if you were on gingerbread youll need to flash the cm7 for the p920/o3d. The cm7 rom for the thrill will only get signal for froyo. As for reverting to an older version of cwm recovery, i believe it is an option when you choose in the very top bar of rom manager to flash a recovery. Press that and i think it asks you to choose a recovery, i believe o3d is the choice, than after that the option to pick a recovery should show up. If you do flash an older recovery try your back up and see if it recovers. Hope this helps.
