Im using FroyoBread 23b, upto now I've been using wifi mainly cause i use the net on my phone alot and the battery doesn't even last a full day, so now im thinking about getting a 3G data plan. SO which uses more battery, wifi or 3g?
3G!!!! Drains battery like hell!
Vote For 3G
Drain battery a lot
3g ,it's very simple......., it's like you will make a normal phone call

Does anyone really see that much of an increase in battery life if you're in a 4g area but force 3g?

I do on the Bionic and the TBolt. I always leave them on 3G. 4G is not needed for anything I do.
It makes a big difference on my Bionic. I don't use 4G unless I'm doing some real surfing. Otherwise I leave it in 3G only mode.
It makes a huge difference in battery life for me, and I live in a good LTE area (Portland, OR). I generally only turn it on 4G if I need the throughput.
Well it was helping but since the update anytime I force cdma only I don't get any data...

also saves me a buttload of battery. Once the update hits my phone, I'll be interested to see if it's still a big battery saver or if the frequent G-Cycle issue was responsible for more of the battery drain than the LTE is, seeing as how that bug has been known to lose me 50% or more of my battery in less than an hour on occasion
I have a Droid Bionic under Verizon. I did the OTA update to ICS yesterday and since then I haven't switched to 4G once. Places where I had 4G signal before I'm left in 3G.
What did they 'fix' on the 4G/3G problem? Does it force a much higher 4G signal before switching now, or is it something else?
I'm on unofficial 232 and the 3g 4g is awesome....however it eats battery life so bad it almost drains the battery faster than I can charge it.. j have to turn on airplane mode to get it to charge in a decent time frame

Which will give you better battery life: leaving wifi on and using it for calls or leaving wifi off and using cell radio for calls? Thanks.
WiFi. Assuming you are using T-Mobile. WiFi calling also turns off the radio, thus improving life even more.
I will say however that this phone has exceptional talk time off of WiFi. Better than my last iPhone.

For me WiFi calling causes a nasty wakelock from IPService... I stopped using it after that point. I didn't notice any better battery life

Comparing to my other phone the percentage of battery usage my WiFi seems pretty high. WiFi optimisation is on and the phone is almost always connected to WiFi

it depends i will have to look at my phone when my wife gets home with it.
but if you leave WiFi on all the time even when you leave your routers distance and WiFi is trying to find a wireless network a lot then yes i would expect it to be high because it is contently searching for a network. but if you turn it off when you leave your WiFi network then it maybe kinda high.

The screenshot is from today, it has been on constant home WiFi the whole day. Right now when I checked again 22% of battery is left with WiFi usage accumulating to the same 16%.
On my mom's moto g the WiFi usage is always around 5%. Around the same usage.

Not that it seems too bad to me, but some routers cause issues...also some network setups.
Something to do with the router or network polling your phone way too much.
You'd have to research this possibility tho.....that's all I know about it.
Do you have many wakelocks? Is the phone deep sleeping like a baby?

I think now this had more to do with battery calibration.
My phone has been on for 13 hours today with WiFi using around 12pc with probably an hour searching for an open network ( the phone is almost always connected with WiFi ). So I guess the 12% is fair enough.
I think the network I have been on is set up fine because other android phones don't have the same problem on it
The phone is new so probably its just adjusting.

So yes it's another battery thread but I'm noticing that my signal compared to the note 3 is not even as half good.. Where I would get lte, it drops to 4g, and it's alot of dropping back and forth between the signals and where I would get 4g I get edge, is it possible of being the update?
Just curious.
