Root stock 2.3.6 - Nexus One Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hi! Does anyone know how to root stock 2.3.6? I've been doing some research and can't find anything but the one from bexton. I did try bexton's method but it didn't work on my phone for some reason because I can't get the ADB to reconize my phone. Fastboot works just fine but not ADB. Any suggestions would be much appreciated.

This worked for me stock N1 2.3.6

Have you had any WIFI issues? I read that 2.3.6 can be rooted but using the previous build root. This causes WIFI issues. That's why I'm asking.

No wifi issues for me

F&%$ yeah! I've been trying to root this thing for a week and finally I got one that worked. Thanks!!!

[Q] No more able to root the SGS (official Froyo - Z4Root)

Hi all,
my problem is that Z4Root doesn't work any more. It seems to work... reboot the phone... and nothing change.
This happen after I've unrooted the phone and a friend of mine applied the root procedure from OCLF.
I wiped all more than one time but Z4Root and SuperOneClick also doesn't work.
Any idea to solve this? If I flash an Eclair official ROM I'll be able to update it to Froyo via Kies?
Thanks in advance.

if you're running the rooted stock dj11, then you have to unroot, apply the update, and then use superoneclick to re-root the new stock ec02 rom. alternately, you can hit the dev section, and snag a rooted ec02, which is flashable via heimdall. but your updates won't ever work with root. so you always have to unroot, and then apply the update, and then reroot.
also, if you used z4root to root, trust me when i say, it won't work for ec02. you have to use superoneclick, and you have to make sure you have the right drivers installed on the computer, or it stalls out.
I've tryed to unroot with superoneclick and it says its not rooted but never works. Is there a step iam missing?

Superoneclick

Hi could someone tell me why superoneclick stops at step 6 and then freezes?
Been trying to root my SGS for ages but i am having no luck
Regards Anthony
maybe im wrong but i think it has to do with the version of andriod is on your phone. i've tried this once after i accidentally updated android to another version and i wanted my phone rooted again.
Fixed
All sorted now thanks, the problem was is that i had gingerbread 2.3.5 on and superoneclick doesnt work with that so i had to use an alternative method.
All good now and thaks for the help

[Q] froyo to 2.3.5 root..but no wifi

i updated from froyo to 2.3.5 kk4 gingerbread.rooted per instructions.
got root and all but when i turn on wifi it hangs then turns its self off.
in the instructions it says to reflash the kk4 kernel but when i do that i loose root.
i think im missing something when rooting. any help would be greatly apprec...
(not hijacking, you're just not alone)
I dusted off ye' olde Captivate and flashed from Cognition to stock Eclair, up to stock Froyo--> Gingerbread using Odin and Kies(respectively). I followed the KK4 kernel Root using Odin with "I897UCKF1-AutoRoot-DesignGears"(cant post links yet) to the "T". I DO have root, however do NOT have WIFI same as OP. My other car is a Thrill. So I'm not using Captivate for communication, But without WIFI, it's rendered useless. After you enable WIFI, it takes a bit to initiate then searches for networks, then shuts down. I tried to add mine manually but was told I was "Unable to save" it.
Kinda found a fix.
I searched and found an Odin 1 click which takes us back to 2.3.3. Then I flashed the Kernel using Odin as we did before and voila, root, and my WIFI functions. I am happy with 2.3.3 and root rather than the headache of fooling with it any more.
If you want, PM me...this forum won't let me post links yet
SAme problem here
Moving this over from the General. Bad poster...
The other day, I got a text from AT&T indicating that an official 2.3.5 kernel was available for my Captivate. Great, so I fire up Kies mini and install it over my rooted stock 2.2.
Update goes well, I have Gingerbread. All of my apps remain in place. Re-root (SuperOneClick) and my Titanium Backup works like a charm. (edit: Maybe SOC did it, not sure. It hung on step 6 thinking back, but I'm rooted currently. Could root have survived through the Kies update?)
However, I can't get my WiFi to connect to save my life. It scans for about 15 seconds then shuts back off. I can't even enter WiFi settings manually, because it shuts off and "fail to save" the settings.
IS anyone else having issues with WiFi on the AT&T stock Gingerbread kernel? (No, I don't feel the need to upgrade, since I just want to be able to use TiBU) I'm also having the dreaded "tetheringmanager" issue and a factory reset didn't help
That's exactly what happened to me other than not having rooted 2.2. WIFI worked with 2.3.5 before odin root of KK4. I went back to 2.3.3 and then rooted. Still Gingerbread and now fully functional.
Search for wifi manager in the market. I had the same problem, was using THS ICS at the time, but my situation was the same as you are all describing. It saved my wifi locations and never failed me. Give it a try.
when you tell someone something, it depends on what part of the united states you're standing in as to just how dumb you are--- Burt Reynolds
i actually tried wifi manager. it still would not connect or find any networks for me.
How very strange......

This happened to me when I went from stock 2.2 to stock 2.3.5 using mini Kies and the offical ATT release. I then rooted my device using "DesignGears-AutoRoot" however this kernel breaks wifi...You'll need to reflash the stock KK4 kernel (you'll lose root) if you want your wifi back. I then found this thread explaining in detail what I went through:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1444382
You'll have to wait until a stable rooted kernel for KK4 is released... :-/
Did you guys try one of these kernels?
