[Q] how to "update" custom rom to official LG gingerbread - LG Optimus 2x

I found some thread around but I'm still a bit confused. I'm in topogigi 1.8 (ext3, base 0725) and I would like to try the new gb stock rom from LG. Can I connect my phone to PC and let do it to LG software or I have to do it manually? maybe there's somewhere a official gb packaged for CWM?
thanks
D.

Im not 100% sure on if you can just plug in and update but i guess no. If i were you i would either restore a backup youve got of your original ROM before you flashed it to topogigi or flash on a completely stock ROM for your country. Maybe?
And yes there is already a flashable GB package for CWM out there. It is what i am running right now and it seems perfectly fine!!

[SOLVED]Darky's v10.0 RC3. How do I flash to CM7/MIUI?

Hi. I wanted to get a quick taste of Gingerbread a month or so ago, and tried the RC release of Darky's 10 version rom (I flashed RC3, and haven't installed anything newer after that).
Since then, lots of progress has been made on CM7/MIUI front. I want to try them. Thing is, all of the tutorials (both for CM7 and MIUI) say something like "make sure You have Froyo bootloaders" or something similar. And I have Android 2.3.3 right now. Do I need to downgrade to some kind of Froyo rom first? I am scared of doing this alone unguided - I almost bricked my phone once when flashing Darky's v10 through Odin.
Help appreciated!
PS The process looks generally the same for both MIUI and CM7, right? That's why I put them both in this thread.
PPS I don't care about my data - it can all get wiped.
Yeah you need to flash a froyo with FROYO BOOTLOADERS Make sure you do this. Go to samfirmware and get I think it was JPU or whichever has the bootloaders. After that flash speedmod froyo kernel. Then make a backup.
Once you do that, get ROM manager in the market and select CM7. If you don't want to buy Rom manager (you should though because it will make updating to the nightlies very easy) go to CWM and flash normally
Easy wasn't it
Easiset way to make sure that you have Froyo bootlaoders installed:
Flash EZBase - this can be found here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=991792&highlight=Ezbase
Then simply download the files required and forllow the relevant instructions for that particular rom.
I flashed my phone with CM7 successfully with the help of EZBase! Thanks!

[Q] Going back to GB from LPY. Stock!

So after a couple days with lpy I notice it's just gotten slower and slower despite working well at first. Seeing this, I'd like to go back to GB. So I wonder, can I do this by simply flashing the open europe LC1 2.3.6 wipe version via PC Odin(Maybe even the odex version of this rom) or is there something else I have to do first?
Sorry for the stupid question. I'm very new to this!
Regards
Varoes
Had to specify pc odin. As I have no root access atm. And I'd like to stay away from cwm
Edit: Just flashed a stock odex rom via pc odin and it worked like a charm. Impatience!

So let me get this straight...

I recently upgraded my Note to official ICS (OTA) and I'm not liking it AT ALL! Now I really want to get far away from this update as possible and I'd like to switch to a CM9 nightly Rom. I've that now that I have upgraded to the official ICS Rom, I run the risk of super bricking my device. So now I ask you to help me make sure the following is correct so that I may move on from this wretched update:
DO NOT perform wipes if you are on original Samsung ICS
DO NOT perform wipes if you are on a original Samsung kernel??
Flash back to original Gingerbread Rom using odin BEFORE flashing to CM9
Flash to different kernel??
I've flashed millions of Roms but this one is scary and I just want to make sure haven't missed anything... Have I?
Thanks for you help!!
John J
Just flash a stock directly rootable GB rom, root and put CM9 on it. Then do a factory reset and you're good to go. Went that way few times already.

Thanks a lot man!! This is pretty much what I thought but I wanted to make ABSOLUTE sure! Cheers!

So is the super-brick BUG on the official ICS OTA?? OMG
And yeah go back to gingerbrear via odin, get root then flash any CM9 tru CWM no problems...
I'd like to do something similar to what the OP wants to do however I have rooted and installed CWM on an official/stock ICS rom. So if I wanted to flash back to a stock gingerbread rom would I need to remove CWM and/or un-root?

There is no need to unroot first. You can flash stock GB rom directly via Odin.
I've now flashed to GB but before I move on to a CM9 nightly, do you recommend I flash the CM9 kernel as well? Seems like it is not a prerequisite but I would like to make sure. Thanks.
John J
afaik, when flashing a CM9 Nightly, the eligible kernel is built in, so no need to flash anything but the ROM.
i'm on one of imilkas first CM9 port and it says [email protected] #1 under Kernel version in settings.
Yes. The correct kernel is included in the nightly.

Confused about upgrading CWM and installing a new rom

Hello dear XDA peeps
I need some help here or maybe I dont, thats why Im asking!
I rooted and followed all the guides a couple of months back, must be over half a year, and installed ICS Stunner 1.4.19. At that time that was simply the most interesting for my Note. These days when more stable ICS roms seem much more appealing. Altho Im thinking Im waiting for a stable working beta for JB
Since I havent done some ROM loving for quite a while Im quite confused where to begin, do I need to upgrade CWM Manager first? I have version 3.15. Or can I go straight on new ROMs? I spent some time reading about updating CWM today and it seems I have a really dangerous kernel version, 3.0.15-I9220ZLP5-CL295568 and if I understand the CWM Manager thread correctly thats part of the dangerous kernels. Which seems quite dangerous to update it since I cant find a safe version of CWM Manager to update to.
So the bottom question, do I need to update CWM Manager first to do anything safe or update the kernel first to perhaps an old safe rooted GB kernel? All the guides and stuff says the safest way is to first install an old safe GB kernel and then install a ICS or JB kernel (not at the moment tho) but is this the truth in my case?
Anyway, I really appreciate if you could give me some advice here
Thanx in advance

There is newer cf root that is 5.6. This is a safe rooted stock kernel by chainfire with CWM manager.
The devs suggest when installing TW ics custom rom it is recommended to install it while already in ics rom.
First install stock gingerbread rom, while in gingerbread rom do the wiping data, cache, and dalvik and then flash ics rom for clean installation. DO NOT WIPE IN STOCK ICS ROM, DANGEROUS. READ THE WARNING IN THE FORUM.
You can choose any tw custom rom you like.
If you want suggestion on what custom rom just ask i gave you one.
Ok, still not sure what do to first but it is safe to install a GB rom first? Updating CWM isn't that important? What I meant was that I still cant find a fitting version to install. Nearest version is: CF-Root-SGN_DD_ODD_LP8-v5.5-CWM5.zip but thats on the danger list so Im still confused about what version to download.. :/
Perhaps CF-Root-SGN_DD_ODD_LP8-v5.6-CWM5.zip is safe to install tho?
EDIT: I saw that I had cf-root version 5.2, it was CWM Manager that was version 3.15
EDIT: getting a new baseband comes with a rom, no need to install baseband seperatly? For example, getting Cassie's XtraLiteRom Version X LC1 295Mb is getting my baseband LC1 too?

You can flash the cassies custom rom directly over the stunner rom if you want to, just be sure to use ABYSS KERNEL for wiping.
Base band also known as modem. There are many flashable modem to choose so no problem what modem you Want.
If you want to install cassies latest custom rom you will get also the latest CWM recovery and manager.
Uhm ok.. so much information Im confused as usual
I cant find exactly abyss kernel. Can it be this one? http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1362424/
And can I flash all roms via CWM or do I have to use PC ODIN?
EDIT: found the abyss note kernel, really slow downloading tho.

I have 2.2 Froyo... Need help

Hello, I'd like to update my phone using Smartflash.
I have an official V20B rom which is rooted. I would like to install a new official rom but i'm completely lost when it comes to choosing the right version !
Where can I get the official V20S stock rom (which can be installed with smartflash)
Also, is there any official ICS rom ? (same, for smartflash), if so, is it fully stable ? Where can I get it ? (LG Mobile update says my phone is up to date... Huh)(I have read that you need to change the boot partition or something like that with ICS roms, is it valid for official ICS roms from LG too ?).
Do I have to unroot my phone before installing a new rom with Smartflash ?
Thanks.

1. Make sure that you have P990.
2. V20B should be a gingerbread.
3. If you read one post below yours, you could’ve find exactly what you ask official ICS for smartflash.
Cheers.

I actually have V10B sorry !
I will update via LG Tools with the kdz instead of smartflash. Is there anything to do specifically to keep my data in the phone or is it saved automatically in the LG Tools update process ?
Thanks

I think updating via LG Tool doesn't erase data on your phone... however I would strongly advise you to synchronize your contacts with gmail and backing up you apps with titanium backup in an external sd card.
Update via LG Tool didn't erase my data when I went from 2.2 to 2.3
