i installed it like a regular app. but if you cant install it that way, heres a video by qbking77 about how to install it through root explorer.. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KdujIKw4wXg
Well. How to install it? Gives me "Application not installed" error.
You can rename it to Vending.apk and replace the one in system/app/ with this one. Make sure you clear data and cache and reboot. Use root explorer to move the file.

Thanks. I'm going to try.
i just installed it like any other app.
Anyone having problems downloading or updating apps? I can't seem to do either without a FC. I've tried clearing data, caches, dalvik and fixing permissions and nothing. Anyone have any ideas?
edit: I restored my previous version of the market, then reinstalled at it is working now.

no problems here. try to uninstall it then reinstall it.
How to update to Android Market 3.3.11:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KdujIKw4wXg
heres a vid about how to install it if you cant install it like a normal app, added to the op.. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KdujIKw4wXg
If you're down with the adb.. I just did this:
adb remount
(go to directory where file saved..)
adb pull /system/app/Vending.apk Vending.bak
adb push Market-3.3.11.apk /system/app/Vending.apk
adb shell chmod 644 /system/app/Vending.apk
adb reboot
Thanks a Lot. I was trying ICS ROM and Market doesnt work. I will give this a try.
Tried everything and still forcecloses while downloading a new app.
I'm going to do a data wipe right now, and will try again.

Directly tried this and it worked
Ultimate Crespo v1.0 Rom clean install.
installed franco kernel (1 nov).
installed gapps-gb-20110828-signed.zip
installed googleWalletFix v6
then pushed new market without even adding a google account or running old market.
No luck. Force closes.
if you are getting fc's, put the vending.apk in /data/app/ instead of /system/app/.
I tried on NSCollab instead of Ultimate Crespo right now, then worked.

Ported apoth's Supernova bootscreen for G1 to G2/Hero format simply because I liked it, and it's a cinch to do as it turns out. The file attached to this post is a signed update zip.
Graphics used with permission from apoth - see this thread for the original G1 version.
adb push bootscreen_Supernova_noSound_signed.zip /sdcard or manually copy to root of SDcard
Flash zip through recovery rom
(alternatively flash zip through DroidExplorer - never tried that myself though)

Hey Everyone
I was having the same problem with the bootimage not loading. A member (papa smurf) was able to help me out. Here is his email (the bootimage is now loading fine):
yeah man thats an easy fix.
if you know how to use adb inside of command promt then hook up phone to computer and make sure it is on sync and debug is on then type this in the comand promt of your computer. to get to command promt go to the start button and type in cmd.
cd C:\android-sdk-windows\tools
adb remount
adb shell rm -r /system/media/bootanimation.zip
adb shell rm -r /system/media/bootscreen
then you can restart your phone.
Note you could just do:
adb remount
adb shell
su (not sure if you need the su command here or not I usually just enter it any ways all the time)
rm -r /system/media/bootanimation.zip
rm -r /system/media/bootscreen
After those two files have been removed make copy the new bootimage zip file to the flash drive, reboot into revovery menu, flash from zip
hey guys. now that i've learned how to mod apps to match my liking, i wanted to mod the one app i use the most.
i can't seem to find where Mixzing's installation folder is? i've searched /data/app, /data/app-private, /system/app, /sdcard/data, /sdcard/Android...where do the .apks for these apps that aren't under /data/app go???
and which apk should i be editing, the basic .apk or the upgrade .apk? (i assume basic).
thanks

just did that. uninstalled. reinstalled. went back to /data/app and it's not there. organized it by date and it's not there.
i have Move2SD enabler, so it's installing apps directly on the SD card. that's why I asked in the OP where else besides /data/app apps get installed.
i can use the .apk you posted, but when they update the app in the future i'll be in the same position. i need to find my own .apk
couldn't find where it was being stored in the /sdcard, so i just moved it back to the phone's memory and then got the .apk from /data/app.
here's my first skinning attempt. pretty much what i was going for. matches my black windows 7 look

guys i'm having an ISSUE...anyone know what's going on?
please read...
tried the regular method using .apk manager. if i unzip/edit/zip/sign and try to install, i get "Application not installed"...if i do unzip/edit/zip as system app (no signature) and try to install, same message. if i do unzip/edit/zip as regular app but dont sign it, same message. if i edit the file with 7Zip and try to install, also get the same message...
if i unzip/edit/zip/sign and try to copy/paste over the existing .apk in /data/app i get force closes when i try to open the app.
now, if i edit the .apk with 7-zip and i copy it over the existing .com.mixzing.basic-1.apk in /data/app then it works! the widgets work, the app works. all is well....until i reboot the phone. then i come back and the app wont launch, as if it wasn't there.
i go to /data/app/ the .apk is there, but it wont launch. if i try to install it from there, it also gives me "Application not installed"...interestingly enough, when i try to install it, it tells me it would overwrite an existing application. yet when i go to the Market, it shows as Mixzing NOT being installed and lets me install a new copy just fine.
if i install again from the market, and copy/paste my copy over it in /data/app, it works again...until I reboot...and the cycle repeats.
what am i doing wrong here?
Ok here goes.. This version of Swype is WAY more accurate that the stock version. It makes it SO much nicer to use.
Flash at your own risk. It worked ok in IRC last night, although some ppl did have problems flashing via CWM.
The Root Explorer method seems to be working for everybody.. so have at it, just make a backup first.
MAKE A NANDROID BACKUP!
I dont want to hear it when your Swype is borked and you cant get it back because you didnt do a backup, not my fault. You have been warned!
Instructions:
Step 1. Change your default keyboard to the stock android keyboard, or any keyboard other than Swype.
Step 2. Using Root Explorer, Delete Swype.apk from /system/app/ and libSwypecore.so from /system/lib/
Step 3. Pull Swype.apk from the .zip file in this post
Step 4. Copy Swype.apk into /system/app/ using Root Explorer
Step 5. Reboot
You can also try just deleting Swype.apk from /system/app and libSwypeCore.so from /system/lib/ and then flashing the zip file via CWM, but some have success that way, and some dont. Not sure why, but its about 60/40.
Works great for me, follow the instructions and let me know how it turns out for you

Followed your instructions with Blackhole Rom (DJ01). Keep getting FC's. Even after clearing Cache, Dalvik and Fixing permissions.
Going to see if I can investigate why. Will keep you posted.

I had same problem. Running dj05 with stupid fast kernel.

I had to totally uninstall the Swype app using ADB (adb uninstall com...swype...)
and then fresh install it.
Br broke my swype too, force close hell :-(
I wanted to try this but i guess i'll wait since i'm also running DJ05 stupidfast 1.76 with blackhole 2.2. I don't need the FC hassle...lol...hopefully it will get fixed cuz i would love to try it.
I started reading this excited and as I moved down the page I was slowly discouraged. I will have to give this one a try and home when I have my main computer.
I just tried this and can confirm thr above claims. Followed given instructions to a t.

This was tested in IRC last before releasing, and the only people who had trouble with it, were the people who did not follow the directions to a T.
Have you guys done EVERY step? Let me know...
I had to delete the libswypecore.so and the swype.apk file both before flashing this, and then it worked fine. I love how much smoother this works. Great job!

How did you delete swype? I tried titanium backup force remove but it conflicted with the cwm update.zip. Tried a root file manager but that failed too

Delete the apk and lib using root explorer.
Then install the apk in the op zip I didn't flash through cwm.
Sent from my SCH-I500 using XDA App
Only thing that worked for me was way ibegary stated... Followed original post directions to a "t" to no avail.
Finally got it to work after using root explorer to delete apk then pushing the updated apk in. apparently i forgot To mount as read only. Also didn't know you had to delete libswypecore.so again after flashing. Thanks for this!

It's because it needs to be installed in /system/app
Try doing this
Instructions:
*You can try to install this .apk over top of your current market, but it may not work. If it won’t, then you will need to be rooted and follow the instructions below.
1. Download the file from above (Market-3.4.4.apk) to your SD card.
2. In Root Explorer, find the file you just downloaded and copy it.
3. Move into /system/app and hit the R/W button to mount – then paste the file.
4. Find Vending.apk and rename it to something like Vending.apk1.
5. Long press on Market-3.4.4.apk and rename it to Vending.apk.
6. Afterwards, long press on it again and choose “Permissions.”
7. Change the permissions to this:

Thanks for the post... but i am still having problem buying apps.
Simple translate:
Error
An error occured, please try again.
I get build version 3.3.12 when doing that. is that correct?
I did the same. Then out of exasperation, within root explorer, I ran the APK, was prompted to overwrite my other system app, and I did it. I assume the fixed permissions had something to do with it, but it worked for me.
I noticed a huge difference in speed and loading, well done Google

Can't even open it, keeps FCing. Was it cause I deleted the old vending.apk?
Sent from my Nexus S 4G using xda premium
Fix permissions, reboot. Still not working ? Must be kernel problem, not sure. Works for 90% of the people flawlessly.
Problems related to buying apps could be (not asserting) server side problems which many faced during sale.
Well I am running a Trinity kernel, which one do you recommend? I just want my market to work I changed permissions like said in the past posts

Try fixing permissions through Recovery or Rom Manager also.

I have the lastest swype beta installed and the apk is in /system/app/com.swype.android.inputmethod-1.apk
same file name from the BO2.0 zip.
or just use rom toolbox or TI to uninstall it. the site also states that you need to remove /system/lib/libswypecore.so

well you heard the man get crackin
Just installed it. Grab another keyboard before you try this. BO only has Swype. No other keyboards.
I uninstalled all Swype from system, then deleted anything else that said Swype from the app folder. Pushed the themed Swype to the phone with adb, then reboot. Then for some reason I had to go in with root explorer and physically install the Swype from the apps folder.
Crude and it downgraded my beta to the most recent, not the current version. The theme maker states that the latest version keeps fc'ing and won't take the themes. Oh well, I like it. Goes good with my lunar theme.
