Hi,
I have a rooted Galaxy S. I have almost 2 gigabytes for /data partition, and when I check free memory for example in Root explorer, there is 1,12 gigabytes free. However, when I tried to install Wind-up knight game from the market, I couldn't start download as it said I have no room for it. But root explorer says I do have. What is wrong? Doesn't market recognise that I've repartitioned the internal memory? Or what is it? I even moved some apps to SD, but it didn't help at all..
/datadata is where apps store information. If this space is full, you can't install apps; if there's no room at all, apps will force close if they try to write new data here. In Root Explorer, go to this folder—it will say the free space near the top. I'd check that first.
Of course, you said you already tried moving apps to the sd card, which would fix this problem. But keep in mind some games are 20+ MB, whereas lots of apps are <1 MB. If you need more space, simply uninstall apps or move them to the sd card.
Hopefully that works!
If you can't install apps from market , but can install from apk-s you should clear your cache from recovery (not dalvik cache). And clear market cache data from app manager.
Hope we solved your problem.
Something I realized: As I just translated the finnish error message to english, it doesn't tell enough about the problem. The real message is about "insufficient space". And I found out other users have had this same problem.. tried wiping the cache, dalvik cache and market application data, but it's no use..

Maybe you should read the answers to the thread you posted about this problem. You know, considering that's probably why you posted this thread.
The only thread I posted questions about this problem to is THIS thread..?
And the only answers I've seen are doing those things I already did.

Don't blame them. They probably didn't hang around XDA often enough to notice when this problem was first raised a year ago.
Here's the problem:
Wind up knight - size ~41 MB
I9000 Cache - Size ~39 MB
See the problem there? No matter what the hell you do, you can't download wind up knight from the market without modifying the cache size somehow. I remember someone posting a thread explaining how he managed to do a symlink for the cache, but there was quite a long time ago. When the I9000 was released, the market has an app size limit of about 25 MB. Over time this has been increased gradually and quite a number of people have expressed worries that one day the limit will eventually exceed the cache size. Well, it has happened now, and there's not a lot that we can do about it.
So you're saying that we have to live with this issue?
Edit: We can still solve this by downloading the APK's using the computer right?

Yes, since the installation process does not use the cache partition.
Fox, please stop posting random crap just because you have no idea what's going on. You are not helping at all in any way.
As for solutions, well the MIUI rom seems to have a bigger cache size.
http://forum.cyanogenmod.com/topic/27854-symlink-market-download/
A possible solution - I haven't tested this myself
http://forum.xda-developers.com/archive/index.php/t-941339.html
Specifically, this line of code:
Code:
su
mkdir /sdcard/tempcache
mount -o bind /sdcard/tempcache /cache
The last method looks promising.
Edit: Well guess what? It works! Blimey. That was easy. Plus since its temporary, everything goes back to the original state after a reboot, so you don't have to worry about breaking stuff (unlike symlinks).

Oh, of course not. We know nothing, and you're the freakin' messiah. Right.
I've helped more people with similar issues than you can probably count to, buddy. It's not my fault the OP fails at providing accurate information to diagnose a problem, as surely I can't memorize the size of every download on the market, just to help him out. Leave the condescending attitude for people that can't, won't, or don't help others, not for people helping diagnose an issue.
And yes, the fix you posted works just fine. Not that anyone other than you would know, right? Please...

Hey, let me gloat over my success for a while would you?
To be fair, I think his post was clear enough. If you google around a bit the wind up knight download problem has appeared quite a few times.
But what Fox did was just to post whatever that he thinks is the problem instead of even trying to diagnose the situation. I have asked questions before and received too many non-relevant solutions that obviously wouldn't work. It gets a little frustration if it seems like people aren't even trying to listen to you.

Probably stores information somewhere else on the phone than normal. adb shell your phone and look for it manually

Hmm odd.. I wrote that app and I made an activity that starts on startup the normal way... not sure why it would still be there after a wipe... *shrug*
I had a similar issue with another app. No matter how many times I wiped, there it was. I think the Market got "wonky" and was downloading it each time I started up for the first time after a wipe. Almost seemed the market website didn't get notified of the successful download/install and was trying to "finish" the download upon signing back on.
whats the problem? uninstall it if you don't like it. personally, I think its a great application and I use it daily.
What should you keep your settings on with this app, both high and low. Also after applying the numbers do you need to reboot?

Seems like a silly question, but do you use apps on SD card.
One of my favorite features of doing that is that I dont actually have to reinstall after wiping, just redo the simlink

That depends on personal preference. I keep mine at 528/528 'cause I like me some speed
EDIT: forgot the second half of your post, you don't need to reboot after applying.
ive never been able to get open over clocker to do ANYTHING, i put values in the box hit apply and nothing happens... reboot... cpu at same speed.... its like the button just does nothing, tried the standalone app and dudecake.9 with it integrated. it hasnt ever caused me any problems and removing it worked fine for me, it just never did much of anything at all for me
are you using the dude's build? he included the app in his builds until this last build

On cm7.2 and my datadata thing is getting full and I'm getting FCs and warnings.
I know I can run scripts to try to fix it, but I would rather not have to maintain these.
Are there any roms that would allow me to not have to worry about this issue?
Any GB, or ICS roms?
Thanks
anyone?
Did you try the .nodatadata fix? I hear it 's working for those who have this problem...
Personally, I never had a problem with size of datadata, no matter how many apps I had installed (I think my max was ~185 in total).
It's weird that some phones are plagued by this and others don't...

It just needs one app that saves its cache to /datadata and it will be fulfilled. For example Chrome is one of those apps..use disk usage, storage analyzer or did other app to find out which app is filling it..assuming that you really don't have massive amount of apps installed.
Also that mentioned .nodatadata is one solution..or script made by Wendigogo (you'll find it from dev section..)..or move some big apps to sd.
Small /datadata isn't big issue because there are several solutions for it..

Hello
(sorry for bad english) (and sorry if i'm in the wrong topic)
I was lurking for some threads about increasing internal memory.
Nothing easy for me. lol so I'm making a new one.
I have a samsung galaxy ace, android 2.3 gingerbread. I have it since June or July. never had problems with it until 3 weeks ago +/-.
I never had many apps, and the apps that I had, all went to SD
Well, I downloaded Skype app and it began to fill the internal memory, I deleted it a few times, and I downloaded it again. I did that about 3 times. I thought that was the problem, some files were stored but I don't understand nothing about that.
Whenever I went to skype (the last time), it could just signal that the internal memory was full and I had to delete a few things, and then noticed that I could not receive messages.
I deleted skype forever, never downloaded it again. I now have 27MB free, I want to update the market and i can't, because it occupies just over 10mb.
Already deleted everything, and it is the same with 27mb free. thats okay, I can live with that. but I want to download more apps, and appears the samae thing.
I saw the topics about it, it says i need to format the phone, but I do not know how to do that, of course lol.
but if you guys know of any program or something of the genre, please tell me.
or please help me format my phone.
it's annoying like hell.
please.
thanks.

Hi, got a strage problem with my Nexus 6, runnig with 7.1.1.
Altough the camera app itself works fine, any other app interupts with an error massage when the app tries to use the camera (eg WhatsApp or CamCard). Don´t know the message in english, translated form german, the message should be "can´t connect to the camera". Ok, I´ve done a factory reset, I booted into the recovery mode, wiped the cache and did a reset with no success. Trying to make a photo eg. with WhatsApp doesn´t work .
I´ve read, that should be a hardware problem. I can´t imagine that.... As I remeber, the first time I recognized the problem was after I installed an app for the vector smartwatch. This app sould be a remote to initiate a pictute shot from the vector watch (The app didn´t work, I deleted it). After that, I tried to make a picture with WhatsApp and the camera failed the first time. An accident? And the camera still works fine with the camera app.
However, I don´t know any further doing. Do you?
Thanks for any support .....

I would say YES. After the factory reset, the only app I installed was CamCard with all permissions. Starting the camera out of this app causes the message "couldn´t start the camera".
But I think, you´re right, my fault must be something like "basic" or "fundamental". I´ll try a second time.....

Instead of playing the guessing game why not pull a logcat and know for sure what is causing it. If you tried on a completely new setup then I would say the issue is with the app.

If you are messing with your device and dont know what a logcat is then STOP. This is basic troubleshooting 101 and many want even look twice or offer any help without one.
Also with the recent update it could be that google changed something with the camera and the apps need to update it. I cant really test either of those as I have no use for camcard and I wouldnt be caught dead with wahtsapp installed on my device.
"logcat ... This is basic troubleshooting 101"
I have to disagree. I've been playing with Android for several years and I have little idea (not "no idea", since I read a description recently) what a logcat is or how to get one, but most people's queries here are answered without logcats. To tell someone to STOP (unnecessary caps) is unhelpful, and I say that with respect, given your very large (and very impressive) number of thanks votes.

Trust me man. It really is. They are so important that many devs refuse to even look at a question without it. The questions that popup normally go through about 6 pages of try this or try that when a logcat will tell you exactly what is wrong.
I only say stop like that because things like this carry very real risks. You could easily brick your device and if you dont know how to do the basics then there is nothing anyone can or will do to help. It is also the main reason devs hate toolkits that do nothing but make matters worse.

Sorry, in my perception, the "sound of your speech" is unreasonable too... Sure, I don´t know every detail, but I´m profesionally about IT for 25 years... and this with a impressive success. So if you advise me to stop, it feels a little disrespectful. But, let´s stop... as soon as possible I will pull a catlog and I´m grateful for this attempt.
How is everyone doing today?
Ok so I use the Device Care App all the time and recently I noticed that when I click on Memory and it says something like 800MB so i would tap Clear Now. What i noticed that after it is done if I go back and do it again instead it being lower than 800MB its higher, and it takes a few times going back and clearing the memory.
Does anyone have any ideas ?
Thank you all in advance.
