Help, updated ssytem and lost root! - Motorola Droid Bionic

I had to swap my phone, forever rooted on 5.5.886 said it passed, updated to 5.6.893, 5.6.893mr1, and 5.7.893, now I lost root. Tried forever root, Petes one click root, nothing works. Superuser is still there. I know it did work, because I used bionic bootstrap before updating the system files. What can I do??

So whats the story on .894?

I know it breaks forever root, but can it be manually be rooted? Also Im on 5.7.893 stock bloated and the 1.1mb update fails install for me, is this a blessing in disguise?
From what I understand, all it does is break forever root. I don't think there is any reason to try to install it. I haven't heard anyone comment about it being rooted if you do install it though. But I have heard that whatever they push OTA will be able to be rooted using an undisclosed method of root that will not be made available until after the OTA is pushed. Just what I've heard.

Same as I have heard, the only reason I would try to update to it is to stay on the upgrade path for future updates, and why it wouldnt install on mine when Im at 5.7.893.
If you are currently "forever rooted", installing the update will fail. You would need to back out the forever root to apply.

Nope, Im not. I tried to forever root but it failed, so I did it manually. I was at 5.7.893 but lost webtop, so I made a backup of 5.7.893, and used the method of going back to 5.5.886 and used the 54mb 5.5.886-5.7.893 that restores webtop, but didnt make a new backup of 5.7.893 with webtop, and went back to my backup of reblurred. Maybe I should have made a new back up of 5.7.893?
I have a feeling moto/verzion reads these forums to find out how we are rooting and use that info to fix it...

NO UPDATER LEFT BEHIND!
so what does .894 improve or change
From what Ive heard it to solely break forever root, but I have no confirmation if manual rooting still works.
Manual rooting doesn't work it's been broke for a long time. All the leaks broke manual root.

Zergrush still works, this was simply to block the mount-ext3.sh edits.

ok, so i didn't realized this. and yesterday, i updated my verizon system and lost root. so i completely reset my droid bionic. it now has system 5.5.893, and android version 2.3.4 ive tried to re install root with no luck. ive tried petes one click, and forever root. petes says that it succeded, and forever root shows a failure...wait 30 seconds, ect then at the end shows success, but when i try to go into titanium backup.... no root. any suggestions.
btw, ive been 'rooting' though this and other forums for a solution, and finally decided to join so i could ask someone who knows ore about rooting than me...which is most of you. so im the noob. hello all.
any help is greatly appreciated

did you try this using option #1?
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1279825
A newer update with version 5.8.894 has been confirmed to not break root.
However, it is hard coded to only be applicable to a fully stock phone (rooted or non rooted, but cannot have been upgraded on kernel, baseband, system, or Webtop).

as soon as you factory reset phone, you need to turn on debugging then use the r3l3as3droot to root using option 2. This option will not work if you flash a system or downgrade system without wiping data first.

Ota 5.6.894 root?

Can we root 5.6.894? My girlfriend let the ota happen and the d3 lost root. It was previously rooted and i have a nandroid backup after root and bone stock. Can i revert it back or is there more to it than that?

5.6? Yes you can just reroot?
I beleave they fixed the patch to root it on the update. Download rootkeeper from the market.

they fixed the exploit in 5.7.894, but its still open in 5.6.890
Looks like you might have to SBF the phone back to 5.6, root it, apply perm root, and go from there… it's going to be a pain, but it'll get you back to being rooted.

Just did a check for update and there it was, downloading as we speak. Sweet.
One step closer to ICS .
Whelp, after installing lost all data connectivity! LOL!!
Rebooted into stock recovery, cleared cache, reboot - got 3g would not switch to 4g
Cleared all app cache via TiPro, reboot - 4g back and all seems fine. We'll see.
FWIW: Was rooted and had applied "forever root", verified kept root after update. Also had some bloat frozen.
OTA Fails
I've tried twice to update my Bionic with the OTA and it has failed. Has anyone been successful updating their Bionic OTA rooted? If not do I need to un-root and then do the update?

You need to get VooDoo app to backup root then temp. unroot. If you have any stock apps that you have frozen through TB then you need to restore them back to OG state. Your Bionic needs to be on complete Stock 902 in order for update to apply. Also if you have any trouble still uninstall Bootstrap recovery or SafeStrap recovery which ever one you use. Now if you have deleted any of the Stock apps then you will have to FXZ back to complete Stock 902 which I am sure you can find the links in the treads on how to get that done.
.905 sucked for me! I was stuck on no data oe 3G for 24 hrs/ no thnks
already back on .902 and happy

If you removed or froze bloatware, the OTA will fail.
Verify that forever root will keep root on update to .905?
Can anyone else verify that they have successfully kept root with forever root from .902 to .905?
As of midday yesterday, I did not see the OTA.
Today I switched to unsafe and found the OTA message. It was installed painlessly. I had problems but finally got back root, and installed Safestrap. Should I see how well .905 works, try to restore Eclipse 2.2 and see how it works, or download and try Eclipse 3.x?
Is this the same file as the previously released 905 files?

I have stock 902 installed with root...only thing I have modified was I used Rom Toolbox to install a lockscreen theme. Been trying to do the OTA update and keep getting Assert failed, I have tried factory resetting...Have not frozen or removed any bloatware.
I am thinking I should just revert back to complete stock without root but I would like to know if thats even neccesary before I go that route.
G+ has now appeared
I may have to root now.

246 install issues

My friend wanted the 246 update to his phone. So we put the file on it his sd card. If fail at verifying package, by accident he it install again. We tried reapplying the package on the phone from a different phone. The phone failed to update at the same line. It is not the package it is the phone. I used the same package on a different Bionic (not mine) no issue.
Right now his phone wont go past the moto splash screen. Is there anything we can do to fix it?
it is saying error in /tmp/sideload/package.zip

Sounds like the system files on the phone have been modified by a rooted application. In other words, the phone isn't completely "stock" anymore, and the update verifies that the system is still the way Verizon wants it to be before applying the update.
You may end up having to flash your phone back to 905 and apply the update again.

I cannot get OTA to install either. I am stock rooted with 4ever root and also have voodoo. No frozen apps. I get the android unpacking screen then get a triangle with exclamation point and it reboots. I have tried rooted and using temporary unroot with voodoo. I've read Safestrap needs to be uninstalled, is it so for Bootstrap also, because I do have Bootstrap installed. House of Bionic mirrors have been broken until this morning, so I'm in the process of downloading the OTA file now, but, I expect the result will be the same (just won't have to keep downloading it from verizon after every failed install). Thanks in advance!

Get rid of anything resembling root or custom bootstraps. I would FXZ to 905 to be honest (if you have never gone past .232!!), and just wipe it all out. After OTA, use motofail or HoB to root it again, and all is good in the world.

Yes, I read your post, just as I read this one. You said it "could" be due bootstrap, while I appreciate your efforts to help in that attempt, that was not a definitive answer. I was hoping someone more knowledgeable could give me a more meaningful answer so I could focus my efforts where they were going to matter. Hypothetically, someone who knew the answer to this may have chosen not to respond to your post and only when they saw the question posed later, decided to answer. For example, are there any responses to the post you are referencing, which, you think I didn't read? Waiting....uh, NO. Are there any responses to my post? Two helpful and one completely not. I'll let you figure out which is which. So let me take this opportunity to thank meturne2 and digitalr0gue (even if you did insinuate that I didn't read the post) for the useful answers. But, if you promise to hold your breath, I will give you a thanks for your oh so helpful post. Really, I will

It's kind of hard for me to give someone a definite answer about bootstrap if they don't say they have it installed or not. If they give no details about what they have on their system, it could be bootstrap. How am I supposed to give a definite answer about it being bootstrap if they don't say they have bootstrap installed. Chances are is that most people who are having problems, are having them due to either safestrap, bootstrap, or some other mod installed. If they don't have any mods installed, then the issue would probably be bootstrap or safestrap. Since I cannot look at their phone to see for sure, then yeah, it is a probably. If you can read someone mention something about it probably being bootstrap, wouldn't it be easier to look into it instead of asking another question thats probably already been asked at least 10 times through the various forums.. Most of these things can be found if you look.

If you're really that stuck, you can find the .246 fxz file and use RSDLite to flash it to your device. You'll lose everything on your internal SD card, but the external will be fine. For the .246 fxz file, google "bionic 246 fxz xda" and for the instructions on how to do this, google " [GUIDE] Easiest Step-By-Step Tutorial For Upgrading Your Bionic To ICS". Both should come up with xda links to the applicable topics.

Do you have bootstrap or safestrap still installed? If so, it won't install and you will have to remove them first for it to install.
If you have any hacks installed, you will also have the same problem with it not installing. Everything has to be stock and not modified for updates to install.

So if I remove Bionic bootstrap I will be able to do the update without the RSDLite method? I am not sure I want to go the RSDLite way, scares me that I might mess something up. I have done no other mods or hacks, but do have the bootstrap installed.
I guess my next question would be, if removing bionic bootstrap does not allow me to update, can I not just do a factory reset and reinstall all my apps?
Thanks for helping me out!
