Hi, does anyone know of the way or have a patch to remove the battery icon from the taskbar?
not the best way but you could change alll the stat_sys_battery_xxx pngs in framewrk to transparent. it will leave a gap in the notification bar though.
Yeah, I thought of that or possibly just putting an icon of something else there, but looking for a way of doing it right. Thanks though
Okay, I know now you need to edit the 'services.jar' within the framework folder, but just need to find the right .smali file and then the right line of code.
This guy has done it for the CDMA Hero - http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=691250&highlight=stock+aosp
Does any experienced guy out there know how to use 'diff' on linux to see what the differences would be between his 'services.jar' and say one from the stock AOSP GSM?
I'm trying to replace the 3g and reception bars icons in the taskbar but I can't seem to locate the .pngs in framework-res.apk. I thought they were in the drawable-hdpi-v4 folder but no dice. Can someone point me to where they are? I can change them myself once I find them. If anyone's interested, it's a VaelPak 2.3 framework-res with MattedBlues icons replacing most of those in the framework-res, I'll upload it when done. Thanks.
Look in drawable-mdpi, the names should be something like stat_sys_data

The taskbar icons are in the drawable-hdpi-v4 on my ROM, which I'm pretty sure is the same as the mdpi folder. I saw the 3G icons (not the reception bar ones) but when I replaced them then pushed the new framework-res, they don't change. I'm using ClockWorkMod Recovery so I can mount the system partition and push the file but it has an issue with clearing dalvik. Could this be the problem? Also, do I have to replace the Gmail icon in the gmail.apk? That is still the old style also. Thanks for the help.
I found what I was looking for: the icons are in the com.htc.resources.apk in /system/res folder. Switched 'em out, all good. The taskbar isn't finished 'cause I gotta get into some individual app .apk but when I'm finished doing that and probably making a whole theme, I'm gonna post it on VaelPak forum: http://vaelek.com/. Thanks.
Greetings. Would someone with some talent and skills be willing to please help me/make edits for me? I have provided the main file. I have also provided the other files to show the type that I would like to use.
I would like to change the stock symbols to the offset android '3G' icon/the 1x icon(attached)- and the bars to the four or - preferably five bar bubbly style(also attached).
From what I can see, the files are there within the com.htc.resources.apk file but I think they need to be renamed, perhaps edited in photoshop(which I am furtada with).
Thank you for your dev'ing genius and ill be sure to max out the thanks meter...if i can donate, I will try my darndest.
thank you so much!
thats a fairly simple fix. although I'm not sure that is the correct apk... i run an aosp (so it may not translate correctly for a sense rom) but my changes (which were of a similar type) required updating the /system/framework/framework-res.apk
I dont have time to do it now, but I could take a look at it next week. what rom are you running?
It would be in the framework-res.apk and the signal bar wouldn't be as simple as changing the picture, if I am not mistaken. The 3G to 1x icon is a very simple fix, but I believe that having five (usable) bars requires a bit of extra work involving xml files? I always assuemed that was the reason only Sense ROMs had six bars.
I would try just taking the pngs from a stock sprint hero rom and switching them. I've got a video on it but I never posted it on xda cuz I was gonna delete it but its on my YouTube channel

theyre inside the drawable-mdpi folder in the com.htc.resources.apk. thats where i found and how i changed the Ev icon to the other 3G icon thats there...not the offset one which is better. then i just pulled com.htc.resources.apk and pushed the modded one to and from /system/framework/com.htc.resources.apk
i would be forever grateful if i could get it. im just running a stock 2.1, rooted...which ive altered the 3g icon and bars before but i prefer the offset/bubbly icons
thanks thanks thanks

anyone willing/able to make these edits for me??
it would be greatly appreciated as not only myself but others could benefit as well...
i appreciate your time and thank you!
Trying to wake a dead thread it seams, looking to change the color of the signal bars from green to red. I'm using MIKFROYO v4.5 and I talk to the dev and he pointed out that the change was going to have to occur inside the com.htc.resources apk. Can someone help me out on how to either edit the apk or.do it for me?
Hi,
Can anyone explain how one changes the icons in the notification bar?
More specifically, the 3G icon, Signal Strength, and the notification for a new text message?
Also, I know you can change the carrier name to whatever you like with apps like "CCname" and etc. but I've also seen that people have changed it into actual pictures or .png. Any help?
Thanks
I'd like to know more about this too!
The icons are usually found in framework-res.apk/res/drawable*** and begin with "stat". The email notification depends on what app your using but is also found in res/drawable***. You can change them using metamorph.
Hope this helps.
So do you mean I should use a program like APK Manager, and open up the framework apk? What does metamorph have to do with it? Sorry, don't know anything about this.
Unzip the theme you're using, and navigate your way through the SystemUI folder.
If your theme doesn't come with custom icons, download a theme that does (I use Buuf as a base, because it effectively themes /everything/) and see what naming scheme you require for your custom icons.
Replace the icons in the theme you're using, in the correct folder, and rezip as an .mtz.
Not sure if it's the /best/ way to be doing things, but is working well enough for me. I'm finding it rather easy to create a whole custom theme by simply replacing elements from buuf, with my own, and removing those I want as default.
Edit: I too would like to know about carrier icons, however! haha.

Does anyone know what a sms notification is called? Can't find it in any of the themes for miui. The closest I find is "chat" and i'm assuming thats for google chat
Easiest thing to do is get your rom zip and unpack all the frameworks and apks in apps using 7zip.
Then do a search for "stat" you'll be presented with the icons that appear in your status bar, then you can highlight them to see what apk they came from and edit as you please.
You don't need to use apk tool/manager as your only doing simple edits.
Metamorph will only replace the images you want so you dont need to flash/push a full apk.
Theres threads how to use metamorph, I think one might be a sticky at the top of this section. Its childs play to use it.

the way i have done it today was to take the theme file and open it with 7zip(i just opened the archive, i didnt extract it) and go to folder systemui>res>drawable hdpi>stat_notify_sms.png or whatever file you want to change, then i would delete the file that i wanted to change and add the renamed file that i wanted to the archive. it has to match the stat_notify_sms.png name, or whatever the image is that your changing, or it will not work. then i just put it into dropbox and dl'd it to my phone and installed it
the only downside for me was that i couldnt change that image to the little ribbon that i wanted to. other than that i was able to change the signal bars, the wifi bars, and the 3g bars, but the sms wouldnt change for me, neither would the gmail.
I'm using the stock sms from miui.

For Gmail notification you will have to put
stat_notify_email.png here
com.google.android.gm->res->drawable-hdpi
if these folders do not exists create them.
For changing SMS notification icon changing stat_notify_sms.png under
com.android.mms->res->drawable-hdpi
will change SMS notification icon
Hope this helps.
Ok, Just to be clear.
First, I find a pre-made theme, and change the .mtz to .zip so I can open it.
Then I find the icon i want to replace and change it with the exact name.
Then I compress it back to a .zip.
Then I rename the .zip into a .mtz.
Should that work?

Got what would seem a dumb question, but here goes.
I have a Desire 510 for Boost. While trying to SIM Unlock it, I loaded the CricKet ROM. I'd noticed the wifi icon has data traffic arrows. I've also noticed that the data icons are normal, and not that ridiculous spinning Sprint icon (Meaning, it also had the old fashioned data arrows).
Soo.. the question is what files needed to be modded to make these changes to the CDMA ROM? I know I can replace the icons, but these seem to be toggles in the ROM itself, and I'm not sure where I'd need to set them. I've looked in SystemUI.apk and Framework-res.apk. I dunno if I have to decompile them to find these options. Anyone with any insight here would be most appreciated.
Attached is a screenshot of my modded status bar for the CricKet ROM. I'd like to put this in the CDMA ROM.

I used Sense toolbox in the XPOSED module download section. Then switch both the wifi and signal bar icons with the oxygen ones they had built into the sense toolbox app. shutdown and wipe cache and dalvik, rebooted then switched them back to normal. shut down and wipe cache and dalvik and reboot. they should be the normal Stock icons and not the sprint ones.

I thought so, too. But I used the SystemUI from the GSM ROM on the CDMA ROM, and it didn't change the icons. I'm not sure where else it would be... I tried bringing over framework-res and that didn't change it either. My only other guess is androidpolicy.jar.. I'm gonna keep digging.
Can't used Xposed sense toolbox, because it didn't change the Wifi icon, and also caused random crashes on the phone. Once I'd removed it, the crashes stopped.
I apologize, I told you wrong. It's not sense toolbox that needs it, actually you don't need it at all. Just download the Disable Sprint system UI module from exposed activate and reboot. After reboot you will need to boot to recovery and wipe dalvic and cache. You need to wipe both to stop the crashes. After rebooting you will have the international lte and WiFi signals. This works.
Thanks, Larry. I'll give that a shot.
Any way to do it without using Xposed? Just wondering.

If you want to do it without xposed youre gonna have to do a little file moving using your favorite root file manager. Take the zip file i uploaded and unzip it go to /system/customize/acc and rename the defautl.xml to default.xml.bak and replace it with the one i have uploaded. Reboot to recovery and wipe Dalvik and Cache. Voila you have a stock M8 with the 5 signal bar icon stock LTE and Wifi amongst other things Non Sprint. P.s. i used PattyBoi's Rhinestone Kernel and thing is Awesome!

We're definitely on the right track!! The icons are correct! But this mod breaks the data. I'll see if I can figure out why; I'm guessing it has to do with how the default.xml handles the APN settings. I'll keep digging. Thanks for pointing me in the right direction though! You're the man!
Just saw that two when I turned off WiFi.
I'm gonna go over the lines tonight and compare with the m8 default.xml and see what's different.

BOOYAH!!! Got it to do what I wanted! I copied the text for the Android_RIL and Android_Telephony from the CDMA default.xml to the GSM default.xml. The result is that the Wifi icons show traffic, and the data works! =-) I'm even happier because the GPS icon is gone, and the nosim notification isn't there anymore (I have the phone on PagePlus, thus always had the no SIM nag)! Awesome sauce!
Thanks LarryBoyG for the insight here... I couldn't have figured this out on my own. You rock, d00d.
I've attached my defaultGSM2.xml (unzip, rename to default.xml and push it to your device). I've also attached my SystemUI.apk file, in case anyone thinks my wifi and signal icons are cool.
What I'm not sure of is if the LTE will work, but it should. Anyone with an active LTE device, please let me know.
To recap, all this XML mod should do is give you the arrows under the Wifi, and put the carrier name on the status bar.
If your not talking about theming them from a decompiled state then use xposed. There's a module that disables the sprint ui. Then your free to modify the icons with apps like xtana and xtended settings.

what i did for raptorrom was add this line to acc default.xml

false

add it below

false

save and restart phone.
that will turn off spark ui.

Hi, LarryBoyG...
You don't happen to know which line in the default.xml file gives the wifi data arrows do you? I'm trying to get this on a different phone (Desire 816), but I'd imagine it is the same string/item line.
Thanks in advance!

Could some one implement battery prercentage 1-100 , that's the only thing holding me back from theming if your curious of what I'm saying you guys can check out my theme threads in the HTC amaze section

Down near the bottom, there is line that mentions sku_id, change the number to 42. That is the default number for the global sku and will get data indicators workin. Sorry for the late response.
