Hi all,
this is my first post so first of all I want to say how amazing this community is !!
I've installed gingerDX v018 just following the xda instructions and all has gone smoothly.
Anyways, I'm posting 'cause sometimes my x8 reboots by itself, usually during the night (each time I heard the logo animation alert ). I guess the timing is not significant, but it happens quite every night.
Do you have any idea of what could it be?
There is some x8 log I could read from or may I use the terminal emulator app?
P.s. I didn't flash the kernel, so I'm still using the stock K. No overclocking apps (not yet).
Do a full wipe. The GingerDX thread says there's no need to do a full wipe after update, that must have confused you.
if what Chris95X8 said dosnt work then your stuck for a while until someone makes a -all-in-one sorta fix. i used to have this problem and after a while it rebooted itself and it got stuck in a bootloop so do the full wipe as soon as posible imo.
i did a full wipe and now its back to normal. no more auto reboots either now.
if that dosnt work then reinstall the rom.
I thought I did. I mean, after the installation I did a full wipe to avoid reboot looping I experienced during my first time installation.
My installation steps actions:
- installed v018 zip
- installed extra zip
- ran Factory Reset (full wipe) option
- ran Wipe cache partitionoption
- reboot phone
Did I miss any steps?

In the meanwhile this w/e I'll try to disinstall one app at a time, to see if there are some conflict. It has rebooted just 5 minute ago.
i read that u can try to use another memory card for awhile to check if the problem still happening.
i got the same problem too, and i tried using another memory card but it still happens. lastly, i sent it to the shop and the shop send it to the factory and it gonna take 3 weeks until i got my phone back..

ok, some answers show that it is either the rom or battery, they also suggest to have it sent off to have it looked at, see if anything is mucked up or something. sorry if it isnt much but its all i could find so far

Thank you wilbso, sending it off will be my very last resource. Anyway for now I've removed weather widget from the lockscreen and Homescreen, just to exclude any (?) refreshing data problems. Next step will be to install some task killer and so on.
I'll write if anything work it out!
Coverage
How's coverage in your area?
I had frequent reboots on low signal areas (very bad) and the phone tried to connect 3G to check e-mail. Anyway, after each reboot, I cleaned dalvik and cache, and then eventually it went away after moving from CM7 to GingerDX.
I think another possible problem is the ram cuz you said that you dont use task killers so the problem may be the low ram(every gb problem)if you confirm that this is the problem i sugest you should use advanced task killer form market
I don't think it's a ram problem, I suggest a full wipe an pay attention when you restore, do not restore system app or app data, the problem could be there...
crazy x8. Full wipe is the solution for prob in almost cases in x8 using custom roms. Wierd
@Chris_Castro:
2g signal looks stable, 3g poor, but at home I'm using wi-fi. But just to be sure I'll check the force 2G signal option, so we will see.
@X8invisible13:
I had the same idea yesterday, so I've installed Memory Booster - RAM Optimizer, here my ram data:
total memory: ~ 175MB
memory avaiable: ~26MB
and reading here and there they look to be average values. But one of the next tests will be to install the latest gingerDX rom, or some other cool roms and test each app at a time.
@evil_chris:
mmm, I'm quite the noob here, so I don't have any backup data or backup apps. I was playing around with HS/LS, sliders, icons when I experienced first problems, so had no time to deepen backup systems.
But I got what do you mean, so as I said, the next installation will be a naked one.
Last episode happened yesterday morning, I checked the locked screen, w/o unlocking it, and after 20 sec it rebooted. Just after I logged in it rebooted again
Anyways Thanks guys
I Cleaned Dalvik and cache, and removed the overclock and now looks good

I posted this herehttp://code.google.com/p/cyanogenmod/issues/detail?id=329
This has been happening for me for a few cyan updates now, and also on the HTC 1.6
image currently
the g1 was "charged", when i got home i took it off the charger and cranked up all
the bells and whistles. within 5 minutes the g1 goes black except for the keys for a
moment and then they go dead as well. no reboot. just goes dead. when i do reboot it
it sometimes wont go throught the whole reboot without shutting back down. does not
happen when it is on the charger. really hard to calibrate the battery when your g1
wont stay on without the charger and when it is it says its charged! i would post it
on the bug tracker, but i can't tell if it's my battery or the rom
and i'm running the death spl 8g card, cyan recovery and newest update, with only a
fat32 and no ext or swap
an update.. maybe check into the device staying awake. seems like with everything
running(gps, 3g, blutooth, etc) and with the phone sleeping, it doesn't crash, but if
the settings to never timeout the screen are active and you leave it on, it crashes
within a few minutes.
you should have an ext partition (the swap is recommended but not required). I only say you should get the EXT because the problem may come when all your apps are in the fat32 drive... it doesn't unmount correctly when you shut down or reboot your phone so your apps / partition sometimes get messed up... this MIGHT be why you get the black screen because it's corrupting the running processes (that are running from the fat32 (apps2SD)) when you reboot the phone(or mount the drive on the computer through usb) while they're being used.... repartition your card to include a EXT3 partition and reinstall the rom... let me know if that works. Post #69 hope this post helps, lol
i have had an ext2 ext3, swap, no swap, all with fresh partitions.

awww so i wasted post #69 lol... Did you keep the 1.6 HTC rom? or did you upgrade it to CM 4.2.3.1? Maybe it's the HTC rom that's the issue? install the 1.6 htc and move to cm 4.2.3.1 (you can go straight from htc1.6 to 4.2.3.1, just follow the instructions) and start with fresh fat/ext/swap partitions... i personally use 100mb for swap (just in case i try a rom that uses more than 32mb by default i don't have to repartition)
edit: sorry, just noticed you said it's been happening on a few CM builds already....
try this: make sure you have CM1.4 recovery, new radio and new spl... new partitions (fat/ext3/swap) install the HTC1.6 rom, as soon as it reboots into recovery install the 4.2.3.1CM update. reboot phone and boot everything up as normal....
If it doesn't work after 100% fresh install like that... then maybe it's just a phone issue?

thanks for your help, but I originally formatted and followed cyan's instructions for his newest legal rom. i had this problem still, and then tried to fresh install the stock 1.6 from htc, and still. i think it's an aosp thing. i have had everything running( 3g gps sync blutooth ) for a couple of hours while the phone has been asleep and i can wake it. but if i turn the screen on, its only a matter of minutes before a crash. it's all posted on the cyanmod code.google site http://code.google.com/p/cyanogenmod/issues/detail?id=329

it has nothing to do with the SPL. try the spare parts trick and see if that helps. even if it slows it down to once every 3-4 days would be an improvement.

Hello dear xda-community,
I'm new to community OS, but I gave it a try. Rooted, xRecovery installed, App2SD - everything no problem. But I have huge problems with getting FroyoBread to work.
At first I downloaded the latest version of GingerDX, installed it (custom zip) via xRecovery and when I'm now booting, it always shows the animation of that skateboarding blue Drood (don't know the name of it, sorry). So after 5 minutes I took the Akku out and tried it again: same :/
So I thought to myself: Why not FroyoBread? It has the features you need and also a nice look. So I tried this - unfortunately the same. The animation continues until the orange Drood (sorry again) and then it freezes. In both cases I let it load for an estimated 15 minutes, maybe it takes longer at the first run - I was wrong :>
I did several full wipes, I don't know what else to do. I set up my old backup to be able to keep using it, but with FroyoBread it would be much better, wouldn't it?
Excuse my bad English, I'm German and heard of you guys being pros at you area, so I decided to demand to the highest
Sincerely,
anfyd
Indeed strange.. Can you check your baseband and see if it ends in 15?
Sent from my E15i using XDA App
First thank you for your reply.
Jup, my baseband version ends with 15, kernel is also up to date. I updated everything with SEUS. Are there maybe other ways to install FroyoBread?
Sincerely,
anfyd

Not very sure why this happened, but I suggest you do the following.
Flash back to stock rom.
Root it again.
Install xRecovery.
Boot into xRecovery.
Backup your phone.
Perform a full wipe.
Wipe cache.
Wipe dalvik-cache
Install Froyobread/GingerDX using the install custom zip method.
Perform a full wipe again.
Wipe cache again.
Wipe dalvik-cache again.
Reboot your phone.
Pray for the best (not needed).
Hope this worked!
Cheers ,
SpyderX
For some reason it's working now but sometimes it boots forever - after taking out the akku and try it again, everything works smooth.
Thanks a lot to you for replying to me
Happening to me
This is happening to me, does never start
Hello everyone, thanks for taking your time and reading this.
I've owned a Samsung Galaxy S GT-i9000 for about two years now. This phone is not my primary phone, as I just use it as a secondary phone for different apps/backup, most of the times the phone is turned off.
But a few days ago, I turned the phone on, and once the homescreen had loaded, around 20-30 seconds later, the phone will freeze, and there's nothing else you can do other than take the battery out to turn it off.
A few details about the phone: the phone has never been flashed, and the OS has never been touched. It's basically at stock, but the only thing I remember is updating the official firmware through the Samsung link in the settings. The phone has never been modded, and that's what bugs me the most. (I've never had experience with 'modding' phones with custom ROMS and such)
So, after sitting at home all day looking for a fix, I couldn't find anyone else in my situation. There are a few similar situations, but I am yet to find something that replicates my problem exactly.
I've also tried rebooting the phone in many different ways, for example, taking out the memory card, then taking out the sim card, then taking them both out completely.
That's when I found a link which gave me information on how to factory reset the device. Since nothing else was working, I decided to go for it.
I held the VOLUME UP button + the HOME button, and hit the power button and got the menu up.
The menu works fine, I was flicking through the options for 10 whole minutes just to check if it freezes or not, and it works perfectly fine.
So then I factory reset the phone, wiped the system cache, and I also formatted the internal SD card.
Still, the problem persists. This time, the phone will reboot for a little while longer, since I expect the system files are getting set up, then it asks for the language, and before I can hit English, it freezes, and the screen stays like that until the battery is dead. All the hardware buttons don't do anything, it's basically fully dead with the screen still on the OS menu.
I was wondering if anyone knows what I should do?
I can provide more information if needed, and I can even upload a video to YouTube if you want a better aspect of the problem.
Any help is appreciated, thanks.

Ah, sorry, got the title completely messed up there.
Yes it's the GT-i9000 and I think it had Froyo 2.2.1, forgot to include that in the main text.
Could try Rooting the phone and wiping all options in Recovery and Reboot
or
Could be that something maybe corrupted which is halting the system
Upload a video so that we can offer better advice
Which Rom / Firmware are you using?
Last option.
Would Recommend Downloading Rom (whichever you choose) and go from there....
Major UPDATE:
Okay, so after sticking at it the whole day and trying to get a better understanding of this situation, I've managed to work around the problem slightly. It's not fixed yet, though.
So after the screen had frozen for the (insert number here)th time, the battery was starting to go empty, so I stuck it on charge, but I forgot that I had left the frozen screen on (currently frozen on the 'Language Select' set up menu).
After about 20 minutes, the phone vibrated and a little message popped up, and it said that 'the process Soundhound.com.xxx.xxx was force closed', or something along the lines. I can't remember fully because it popped up for only around 4 seconds and disappeared.
As soon as I saw that, I quickly went to the application settings and deleted all of the soundhound cache/data and then removed the app completely. After that I thought it was fixed for sure, so I was messing around with the phone and using different apps to see if it freezes again, and it didn't.
But I had to restart the phone to see if the freeze issues happened again, and yep, it was there again, this time the same as the first issue, where it used to freeze up in the home screen. AND, I let it sit on the frozen screen for 15 minutes and it was that SAME soundhound app that got force closed, so once it got out of the frozen state, I quickly went to the application settings and the app was still there, it was like I didn't even delete it?
This leads to my new problem, the so called 'hard factory wipe/reset' doesn't actually reset EVERYTHING. As seen in my other post: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2305825
Now I'm completely confused as to what I should do.
I've pretty much tried everything, and i'm sure a FULL hard reset where EVERYTHING gets wiped out might just fix it? The thing is though, I don't know how? I've been trying to fix this phone for about 7 hours straight now.
My opinion Flash a Stock Rom or what ever you wish and then Root it...
If selling it just dont bother with Rooting it.
As you say you have been at it for Several hours and flashing takes less than an hour even for a newbie if following the procedure correctly
As going by what you say it seems that files are messed up on the phone and better to start fresh

Is there a legit way to flash it, maybe through Samsungs website? I don't want to mess around with custom files, as I would like to keep everything clean.
Oh, and also, I just went through the media files and found some of my old pictures too. So for some reason, the 'format internal SD' option in the recovery menu isn't working.
If I flash it, will I have to flash it to Froyo 2.2.1 which it is currently in right now?
Here's information I found on the 'About phone' menu:
Kernel version:
2.6.32.9
[email protected] # 1
Build number:
FROYO.XXJPY
Baseband version:
i9000XXJPY

Thanks.
Briefly read your guide, and it's all mind boggling to a newbie like me :silly: lol
I might just have to flash it, because this problem is getting a little bit annoying now.
Which parts of your guide should I follow exactly? And shouldn't I be sticking Froyo 2.2.1 back in? Won't a newer firmware (such as the 2.3.6) make the phone slower/drain more battery than usual?
Oh and one last thing, what's the difference between rooting and flashing a phone? Cheers.
Rooting briefly means :
Giving yourself root access to system files and the ability to change things that normally are marked read only
This allows you to change all kinds of things that normally you wouldn't be able to
Flashing : Erm.. Flashing a new Rom on your Phone or the process of over-writing your internal memory
2.3.6 will be ok for you if you wish to stay just Stock on your phone.
Plus the fact if you wish to move to another Rom later on its just a matter of Rooting the Phone and installing the Custom Rom
Just follow guide from the : HOW TO GUIDE : TUTORIAL TO FLASH 2.3.6 JVU + ROOT BEFORE INSTALLING CUSTOM ROM
and you will be ok.

So the 2.3.6 Firmware you provide, is that known a 'custom firmware'?
I've been searching for YouTube videos with people explaining how to flash, but all the videos sound like they're speaking about some rocket science sh** lol
Now I'm super confused, some guy on YouTube is flashing to 2.3.6 JVT while you're doing JVU, I don't even know what that means haha
I just don't want to brick the phone and make it completely dead, that's why I'm just making sure I understand the basics before I go ahead with it, sorry if I'm starting to sound annoying lol
You wont brick it if you follow it correctly...
2.3.6 JVU is the basis for all custom roms been flashed unless stated otherwise by Rom Developers.
As its basically a stock 2.3.6 then when you want to flash another Rom its just a matter of Rooting the 2.3.6

I was just wondering, did you say I should root or not? As rooting it seems like a bit of a hassle? Plus, it says that I should install a custom rom zip file if I decide to root it, but I don't have one? I am using your 2.3.6 which was in your Odin Files download link, right?
So if I root, what do I do exactly?

You could try reverting back to 4.3 then update to 4.4.2 by installing a custom rom.
Hum,
But this problems are normal on the oficial 4.4.2?

By any chance your extreme lag also affects the audio performances? I and a friend of mine had in the same period (for 2 weeks) EXTREME lag, signal lost on mobile network. The lag was so powerful that even music was interrupted. The only way to get rid of this was rebooting the tablet.
The most awkward part is that the bug persisted over ANY KIND OF ROM/KERNEL. Even the official one from Google Developers (any android version).
Best part: It was fixed by itself. Lags started to be increasingly rare and at some point they stopped.
I tried to catch some logs...at the moment of failure, just once they pointed me to some lines in the source code...so I quit trying to figure it out what happens..
I had the same problem, I solved it installing SlimKat, but probably you can solve it with any custom rom, I tried many times to restore 4.4.2 but always the same, only installing custom roms seem to solve it...
I remember it, is like a nightmare to me, turn the tablet On and let it 5 minutes before open any app, open Google Play and see how it lags, installing apps always causing freezing... It remembers me my Windows XP years...
At the beginning i let it thinking it will solve itself, haha, after months I was about to broke it with a stone

Ya the tablet is extremely slow, and freezes sometimes for some seconds!
What do you mean with "rebooting the tablet"? Factory Reset on the original recovery menu?
Thanks.

If you want to keep the official rom you can just try to reflash 4.4.2 wiping everything, just copy to PC the files you want to keep and after flashing copy again to tablet, i would recommend you to copy only important data, not everything, and specially not copy the folders with strange names that you dont know what they are

Before flashing anything try to restore the tablet, copy all your stuff to PC and format it by going to settings / backup and reset / factory data reset and checking to wipe all on internal memory/sdcard
It will wipe all your data, apps and everything, so be sure that you dont forget anything to be copied to pc.
Maybe it solve the problem without flashing
About root and flashing:
You dont need it, but you can root it if you want after flashing,
I dont know how much you know about flashing and all that, so Im gonna make you an quickly tutorial
Basically all you need is:
Nexus root toolkit from here: www.wugfresh.com/nrt/
4.4.2 firmware (can be downloaded directly from the Nexus Root Toolkit)
And be sure that you have copied to PC everything you dont want to be deleted, you can just copy all to PC and after flashing copy to tablet only what you want...
On tablet turn on USB debugging, on developer options (To unlock it go to settings /about tablet /build number and click it many times until it says "you are now a developer", then go back and you will see it)
When its done follow the Nexus Root Toolkit instructions to "flash stock + unroot" (by clicking a button with that text) you should select Android 4.4.2 (KOT49H) and check the option "automatically download"(dont remember what the option says exactly)
And the tool will download it and tell you when you have to do something. Just dont disconnect the tablet until the tool ends its job
Maybe you should install some drivers if you get an error message like "device not found"
If you want to know more about insalling drivers, you get any problem or something else just tell me, but maybe im gonna make you wait because tomorrow is my birthday and I wont be checking it for few hours.

No...just a simple restart. As I stated, I tried different resets and flashes and everything and nothing worked...

Be careful about "Returning to stock" method as I think Google broke their "flash-all.bat" from the arcvive of Android 4.4. Flash every file by your hand. I used that idiotic flash-all on any android version, but on 4.4 it completely broke my motherboard by flashing wrong boot.img.

Okay, I was no sure that you also format "SD card" factory reset do not delete user data/sd card on some devices and Im not sure if in N7 you have to check the option
Try the 2° option but take a look at this comment:

If thats true then try to flash 4.3 and install 4.4.2 by OTA, just select 4.3 instead 4.4.2 when you are about to flashing
Ok,
I flashed the nexus 7 2012 directly to the factory 4.4.2 using the nexus root toolkit, and everything is working fine without problems, at least for now.
The tablet isn't giving exchange errors, and doesn't hang everytime, but I only used it for some minutes, lets see how it works after some days/intensive usage.
Anyway, as I said, I flashed to 4.4.2 directly using the toolkit, and it worked without any problem
Thank You!
has any one been having any trouble with their wifi on their nexus 6, randomly the wifi toggle will stop working the toggle will be off and it still says "Turning Wi-Fi on..." i've booted into recovery and cleared cache and rebooted the phone and it worked the first time and it's been acting up again and this time clearing the cache isn't working does anyone else have any ideas without doing a factory reset.

maybe try just flashing the system img, then wipe cache's again before booting. if that doesnt work, its may be time for the dreaded fdr.
I've never been into flashing system img & fdr? It's just sad because I had the same issue before also losing signal with my device. Til I got a replacement and the replacement device is starting to act up also.

my only other suggestion would be to re-flash. you could try just the system partition, but if it were me i would just go all in for full clean flash.
im sure Simms will get on me for saying so, but you can just grab wugs toolkit and be done in 20min or so.

I've never flashed before i know from what i hear its really easy for Nexus devices. but i'm just curious what would of caused this like from my first N6 since December and it acts up now in Sept and having the replacement N6 acting up the same way.
Is it rooted with mods or completely stock? If stock, try deleting the saved wireless networks..

these random issues usually come from a corrupt file, either by an update or some other means. its hard to impossible to pinpoint the cause usually.
if you never flashed before, its best to read up on it a bit first. wugs walks you through the steps, from downloading the files, and drivers, to the flashing. its not foolproof, but if you follow the lead of the script, its not hard to figure out.

well i have before but that was so long ago and that was for my MyTouch and HTC Sensation but that was years ago. Now I know things are easier but I've never really been into flashing and the only reason I did back then was for updates and different version of Sense UI but since I've been using Nexus Devices I didn't have a need or desire to actually flash. Pretty much I'm a NOOB!
but I don't see why wouldn't a factory reset fix it. even if it was temp.

a factory reset only deletes data, it does not restore any of the file system to its original state.

clearing the cache is always a good idea, i think i suggested that earlier.
i dont know how to explain well what cache is exactly, its not part of the file system, its more like temp data storage i believe.

"In cell phones and networks, a cache usually refers to a memory storage area in the phone or network that stores copies of information that is likely to be needed in the near future, so it can be accessed faster."

thats pretty consistent with what i said earlier. these type of issues frequently arise after updates. files dont update exactly right and something gets corrupted.
