2.2 vs 2.3 - XPERIA X8 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hello guys,
I've got a question that I couldn't find an answer on the internet. It is abou two versions of Android. My question is:
- Wich is the Best and Bugless version for Xperia X8? 2.2 or 2.3?
I don't really mind the features, all I care about is stability, bugless, a battery life and finally compatibility of android programms. I don't want to "force" my phone, I want it light and simple.
Can you give me advice? I want to know if 2.3 is heavier than 2.2.
Thanks!

2.2 coz its finished... try froyobread pro its supposed to be very good since its based on DX froyobread
Sent from my X8 using XDA App

froyo
froyo is best, i myself use gingerbread but froyo is most stable. check out the devs section

2.3 is cooler, but you could experience lag/battery drain/sensor errors.
But in my opinion, it´s ready for daily use.
But if you don´t mind the features, the best for you would be Froyo, as it´s just more stable.

stock version if you dont want any bugs.

2.3 is "za best" ... beacause is very very smooth

Nagh! Most of the 2.3 ROM are full of Bugs(Tested on SE w8), Even GingerDX..........
But most of the froyo roms are bug free........ The best is Froyo pro(currently running on my w8)... For x8 and w8 froyo roms are the best.....

At the moment, I use GingerCruzt 8.1 and I find it great, only with few force close, in "infinite view" at contact manager.
I love it. But Battery Drain really annoys me.
In 1d 7h it drained all of my battery.
- I didn't played.
- I didn't used the internet
- I call my friend and we talked 5 minutes.
- I heard music for 2 hours.
It really suck.

Yeah, but froyobread has its watermark, and it suck.
Can you give-me the list of "bestest" 2.2 ROMS, with good battery life, no bugs.
Thanks!

You could try floyo by racht and froyobread pro....

Yeah, but there's no stable, battery saving 2.3?

Froyo Pro it's stable.
Sent from my XPERIA X8 using XDA Premium App

Froyo pro has a better battery life for me.......
called for 10 min...
heard songs for 1 hr...
Played games for 15 min...
1 day.... 60 % charge and going......

hi..im using gingerxperia v13. in setting -> performance, which governor should i use..? i use it moderately,to play games and surfing.i would really love if the battery last very long.
so...any help..?
p.s
is having the governor a must..? in froyobread i dont see any governor..

If I were you, I would install Froyo Pro... the most complete ROM with no WiFi issues, or anything...

Thanks! I'll try Froyo Pro.
One more question... How can I install Launcher not as application but as "main phone Launcher", I mean, so I couldn't uninstall it from App management?
I don't really like Launcher Pro. I want to Instal Arc Launcher or Go Launcher, but when I wipe my phone, I want to keep it there.

You could unzip the rom delete the launcher ,put your launcher, zip it and you are done. You can use root explorer for that
Sent from my XPERIA X8 using XDA Premium App

I will put into a ZIP .apk, right? I just download from the web and put it there, right?
Can you tell me in which folder shall I put it?

And delete launcher pro

I've tried 2.2 and 2.3 for a long time now...
IMO the latest 2.3.7 ROMS like GingerDX are the best out there: they have the latest features, security fixes, and most importantly, they are still being improved.
I see no bugs in the latest v19 release (except for that flotation point which is actually not a bug but a tweak that can be solved by replacing 1 file. )
2.2 roms have unsolved camera problems (ie: try analyzing images in google goggles and you will know what I mean), huge vulnerability issues, and other bugs which I don't recall now ('cause I moved on several months ago) XD
There is no such thing as huge batt differences between both ROMS... If you want more batt you will need to choose your apps wisely and follow some tips (like the ones at my signature).

Which is the fastest rom out right now?

Hi All,
I have used many milestone roms, but I would like to know which rom is the fastest. I have the 2.2.1 leaked files as of now, and preferrably, I do not want to downgrade. Please let me know which rom is the fastest, and I would like it if overclock is not inputted into the rom during every boot.( or if it is overridable ) I have hear of Telus v5, The froyo mod and chronos froyo for the fastest results. I do not want the desire roms and miui. Thanks so much, Mosh

Also, I have heard of cyannogen ( sorry about the double post, sending from my milestone so I don't know how to edit posts

The GOT 2.2.1 has been extremely fast for me. Running the Droid X theme, everything is very smooth. There is absolutely no lag when transitioning between home screens, opening the app drawer, scrolling, ect.. I'm coming from the iPhone 4, so I know smoothness when I see it.
Touch is also more precise than other ROMs that I've tried, including the stock Eclair version. Battery life is OK if you turn off auto Market updates and Sync.
Mine is overclocked to 900MHz, 56 Vsel.

ROM usage experiences

There are so many roms available, but which is the fastest and most stable rom, whether it is eclair or a froyo mod? Since battery has been an issue for most of the roms available, we have to know which rom has the best battery life.
For me, the fastest rom I've encountered was the froyo mod 2.1
However, battery wise, the rom that uses the least amt of power for me was the normal GOT rom with no other roms applied.
Anyone feels otherwise? Feel free to share your experiences with the available roms so to give others an idea of what to expect on other roms.
Base on my personal experience, I think FroyoMod rocks (beside that small lag after undocking that I experience). the battery life is a-okay, not stellar, but good enough.
Last time I tried GOT the rom was really unstable and I had a hard time reflash to Eclair. :/
Will wait for MIUI, i love the launcher.
I have been using Telus Lite for the last few months, with general O/C at 900mhz and i'm very pleased. Average battery life i can stretch is 2 days with about 5-6 hours of wifi use.
I dont have a data plan, so take that into consideration, and screen brightness is always minimum. dont use it as an mp3 player. About 1 hour of talk in 2 days, about 30 - 50 texts / day. And i'm always using my calendar and making notes on the device.
Very pleased.
fastest rom
i tried most of the roms available here, maybe all .
i searched for the fastest mod, that could let my milestone look superior, and high end. no teering , no slow skipping trough screens, a drawer that wont jerk when scrolling trow apps.
,
this is the results of my research:
Eclair
The fastest eclair mod is most likely Telus Lite rom, i have never seen a rom fast as this one.
only problem: it will get slower with k9mail + pure messenger widget
so i skipped to froyo roms, i thought maybe the ram and overall system managment would be improved. :/ not really. maybe a little bit.
Froyo
The fastest froyo mod was cronos 1.5 , i waited passionly for v1.6 but it was in my oppnion too buggy. maybe just on my phone :/
now i am using the newest cyanogenmod, but i am still not satisfied. maybe i am expecting too much of a milestone overclocked to 1.1 ghz
the best batterylife has cronos v1.5
this is how i solved the drawer issue ( jerking around no more, maybe just a little tiny little bit):
i did it with the adw launcher, maybe launcher pro will give the same result.
in portraint mode, 3 apps in arow, in landscape mode 4 apps in a row, and drawer background just a little bit trancparent, if too much it seems to get laggy again, maybe my imagination...
if there is someone out there, that could make a froyo rom, that is slim, and fast as telsus lite rom, it would make the number one rom on xda developers.
like i said i tested all roms with a cpu frequenzy of 1.1 ghz. but still no setisfying
result.
do anybody know who made the telus lite rom, and would he do a froyo lite rom ?
jlove I agree on the Telus, I had been using it as my first rom after testing every eclair/bastardized froyos. very fast, stable.
however now as froyo (beta) came out I switched to FroyoMODv1... for me it is still best Froyo build as it seems very clean. No fancy addons. I love vanilla roms.
btw I didn't try cronos - and I won't. It is month till official release of Froyo. I'm just waiting with MODv1...
btw I always use the launcher pro - it seems as the most fluent of those I've tried (google default, adw, MIUI).

Too bad telus isn't vanilla, it has it's own font and theme black icons and everything - both are big minus for usability.
I'm craving for very fast very clean tweaked rom.
Personally I have all animations turned off just to gain some performance. Isn't there anyone here who wants just pure speed(+battery life ofc)? Any animation, any fancy feature that I don't REALLY need is an obstacle when I try to get the job done on my phone.
when is the official froyo coming out for the asia region, or perhaps it doesn't matter cos everybody can still download them of the motorola sbf files website?
What's sad is people have given up on making 2.1 ROMs good. A lot of them had bugs here and there. CM6 is probably one of the best managed ROMs out there, but I know many people aren't ready to commit to Froyo.
I myself have sacrificed battery life for Nadlabak's awesome support/updates. I do wish I could get a bit more juice out of daily use though.
fastest rom
like everyday, since i brought my milestone, i was digging for gold in xda developers . i found some good constalation a couple of days ago.
i have now a system that is running fast and stable, and the drawer isnt laggy anymore.
the best results i get with latest roms out here:
CM6 + OH!NO update * 1,1 ghz + launcherproplus 8.1.1 + widgets² = very fast stable, and very smotth. ----> better then an iphone
launcherproplus : Search it and you will find it forsure _' )
i searched for long and this is the setting, that had setisfied me. its the best result you can get for now.!!!!!!!
good luck

Which ROM you think is the best and you are using it?

Hello,
i took the ROMS that are currently on the 1st page... I know there are plenty more, but i wanted to use the ones on the first page of this forum....
I used GOT and was pretty happy, used CM and was even more, and then MIUI, but i think i will go back to CM...
Since yesterday I use the CyanogenMod and just wondering why I was with GOT's all this time.. CM is the best. As simple as that.

Froyomod isn't that stable, at least in my case.
CM for Milestone by nadlabak is still the best.
weird, for me any roms beside Froyomod will have that freaking annoying random reboot issue.
FroyoMod having best battery use time
With the latest CM - i never had even 1 reboot... It's probably the smoothest version of a phone i had since my Nokia 6210 back in 2000... (kidding...)
Its definitely the smoothest version i had on my Milestone, and actually no problems whatsoever. First time no reboots at all on my phone..

This.
With CM I just got 48 hours of use on one-charge this weekend, and not a single force-close or crash. Cannot say the same about the other Froyo-Mods
i like miui the best, its very smooth and has the best design and awesome battery life!
i unpluuged it at 6:15 am and now at 4:30 pm i still have 70% battery, and i played 45 minutes angry birds, doodle jump and pocket legends and surfed around the web for at least half an hour, i was writing several sms and phoned some people!
and in my opinion it has the best usability with the integrated battery saver and the smartass governor!
I have tried most of the roms and have concluded that ultimate droid is the most responsive smoothest and the best battery life with the built in over clocking

the rom is only for the Motorola Droid but not for our milestone.. he must accidently picked milestone android developing instead of droid android developing
Telus lite V5... its not up there, but in my experience its blown everything else out of the water.
until now, 2.2.1 still not stable so I decided to use 2.1 and TelusliteV5 is best choice. Smoothest and great battery life.
Cyanogen has rapid development and code is verified which should give best quality but after testing FroyoMod I voted for it because I don't have any issue at this point and it is smoothest rom of all that I have used no mater that it was stock or mod rom.
Foryo has lots of cyanogen goodness and ads its own like crystal talk, gallery 2d
Cyanogen here. Most complete and customisable rom imo. Very fast. Very stable. Rapidly updated to fix bugs as discovered.
Actually I own an evo and you can just google ultimate droid forums and u can find the website you have to register to download it but it is worth the time I promise you

Hello guys!
For now, i'm using the ShadowMod BR.
A rom developed by a guy in my country (Brazil). The project is very good. There's no issues and everything works. I don't know about CM rom's but this rom is very fast and stable. And have all languages support.
So, if somebody want's to try just search on google for ShadowMod BR
ill say chronos rom its what ive been useing and i liek it very fast and stable
I use miui with launcher pro as i get all the setting and apps from miui can add themes
icons etc and still have very stable phone with good battery life

[Poll] CM7 vs CM6

Which one do you prefer?
A fast, smooth and complete CM6 with Video Recording AV not syncing/Lags
or
a super CM7 with Accelerometer Lags?
CM7 is still in development. This is the main reason why I prefer Gingerbread I'm counting days to the Ice Cream Sandwitch. This might be something special
Definitely CM7 because of the theme chooser and the cool "edge-glow"-overscroll-effect
By the way:
I´m using GingerDx 011 right now, and it´s smoother than my old miniCM6 was before.

Well I use CM6: FroyoBread, it also has the theme chooser and the edgeglow. Just like GB. Before, I am using GDX because it has complete camera. But the Accelerometer is lagging.. so I went back to FroyoBread now. FroyoBread has similar features with GDX. So for now, I choose CM6, practically bugless & complete, and CM7 is still in development..
CM6 FroyoBread or Krauser SROM or MiniCM6
These are my favorite ones. I also like KuyaDROID but it has a lot of bugs already, because CM7 is under development. CM6 is now practicaly bugless (And thanks again to jkrauser2, you solved one of the biggest bugs on CM6, one of the reasons that disapointed me on CM6 and make me went to CM7 a lot of times because i record a lot of videos with my phone xD [No money to buy a VideoCamera, i used the rest of my money to buy my 800€ Home/Gaming computer xD] )
I chose CM6. I think I might have to go back to Froyobread until later relases of GingerDX. With CM6 I just felt everything was much more polished, and also the accelerometer lag and screen issues are annoying.

Which ROM to install?

Hello,
I have my A853 Milestone for about a year and a half.
Currently I have the HO!NO! Cyanogen mod installed on it.
The problem is that the device is very slow, it always crash and games are super laggy (like Angry Birds) or it crashes (like Draw Something).
Which ROM should I install?
I want it to be stable, quick and run games like it should run them.
Thanks

I've had my OG droid for over two years, and I think I've tried every possible ROM there is. The Gingerbread ROM are nice, but they lag really badly on the device. It doesn't have the CPU or memory to handle it well enough. You could do it, but things like the camera and games will almost always end up bogging the device to unresponsive.
I've had the best luck with Liquid Frozen Yogurt 1.95. It s a 2.2.1 ROM (Froyo) and it is really smooth. The camera actually works which is a problem for most of the GB ROMs. Bugless Beast is also a good ROM.

Nothing I did could get the gb roms to run smoothly. The OG droids just don't have the ram.

I installed TheFroyoMod 2.9.3 and now the device is much better.
It runs smoothly, Draw Something actually works (pretty smooth), it's stable and I recommand you to install it too.
It makes sense because the device officially support 2.2 and not 2.3, it has resources for 2.2 but not enough for 2.3
Rom
I play zenonia in froyo mod with minimal lags. I think it is the best rom for gaming.
I liked cm6 for battery but cm9 was running really good on mine

What's wrong with CM 7.2.0 RC1 by kabaldan? I'm planing to install it on my 2.2 stock ROM but retain the 600mhz frequency for battery life reason. Would I suffer worse performance than my current stock?
thanks
I'm in the same boat as the OP.
I am setting up my friend's OG Droid and I'm curious the best ROM.
I have to say I'm pretty happy with CM 7.1 stable release so far. It works great so far and I haven't noticed any problems. The camera seems fine.
Is GB really that bad?
I did try CM 7.2 experimental build (from CM download page) and it was working great until I noticed that the flashlight app, torch wouldn't work. I really wanted it to work in the Power Widget. After screwing around with it for quite a while, I ended reflashing back to CM7.1 stable.
Assuming games won't be games played on the device, I think that CM7 is the way to go unless there are more RAM-hogging apps running. I'm a newb to the OG Droid though.
*EDIT*
P.S. Do you guys have a favorite recovery? I am using CWM 2.5.0.1. The weird thing is it doesn't display Dalvik as wiped when I wipe Dalvik Cache. I dunno if it is a problem or not. I actually searched around a fair bit. What is the best recovery for the OG Droid? Stability, nandroids, and functionality are key. I don't care about touch interface.
Thanks. Feel free to flame me if I am overlooking this info.
recovery i use minimod, hava any scripts (supercharge), unistall system apps, backup apps and have a script to wipe a ext partition.
I used all roms for milestone and cm6 (or shadowmod discontinued a long time ago ) is the best, the only one it works fine, another roms always have a problem with performance (i don't play in my phone).
I have been runnning a rooted overclocked (800mhz) stock rom for ages, but still had issues with it freezing when surfing and quitting apps.
Yesterday I finally got round to changing to CM 7.2.0 RC1. Performance is so much better, more options, smoother scrolling, but the battery life is worse. I had to charge it twice today which is usually a rare occurance. So I have knocked it back down to 800mhz again from 1ghz, setup the 2g toggle, and made a few other tweeks. Will see how that does for now, but if not then will look into battery calibration.
I rarely use my phone for gaming, so couldn't comment on the performance, but if its anything like what I experienced elsewhere you should be happy. Slightly earlier builds have been mentioned to have a better battery life too.
Hope that helps
Best ROM on the Milestone right now? MIUI 2.4.20 hands down.
Damn... new users can't post outside link but Google it.
And btw, it seems that the ROM was designed for Chinese Milestone so the physical keyboard layout is kinda messed up if you use Europe or HK milestone. And since I don't use the physical keyboard at all so it's not a huge problem. But seriously, this is the best damn thing you can put on a Milestone, try it out
Cheers

While it will probably work better than a stock ROM, I'd suggest you try a Froyo based ROM. The biggest issue with GB on a Milestone is the RAM. I tried out every single workaround I came across for over a year, only to end up going back to CM6 (vikasbn's version).

That's the one I'm currently using and so far it's worked like charm. It's also the only one that seems to be updated.
Hello everyone,
I have an A853 (Milestone). I am looking for advice on what SBF and ROM to install, and how to optimize the performance.
I hope it is ok for me to join this thread (instead of opening a new one). Below are my concerns; I am looking forward to advice from experienced forum members (reading from your posts, you definitively are experienced):
1. underlying firmware (OS)
If I understand correctly, due to the locked bootloader I can only change which kernel I will be running by flashing a different SBF file:
- SHOLS_U2_02.31.0 (I believe this is stock Eclair?)
- SHOLS_U2_05.26.3 (and this should be stock Froyo?)
Which SBF should I flash my phone with, so that the ROM I will later choose will work best? Of course, I'll apply a vulnerable SBF afterwards.
2. ROM
I am most keen on MIUI (the latest and final build for this device is 2.4.20?), since I was using it before and I really like its user interface. However, I experienced some problems with it (unresponsive/laggy, not receiving SMS messages after some time, etc.).
Is the MIUI-derivate NIMIUI any better? Moreover, I saw there is another ''chef'' quynhnt that is further developing NIMIUI but I see user responses that it is kind of buggy?
I've tried FroyoMOD which seemed the fastest to me (although I would be really missing MIUI features), however it did not let me connect to my home WiFi (WPA2+AES+Radius) so I let it go.
ICS seems kind of no-go to me because Milestone only has 256MB of RAM (which is very little); I've tried the unofficial alpha CM9 and although everything worked, it was just too laggy. I believe the unofficial MIUI v4 would be the same.
Any suggestions? I am leaning towards official MIUI but with thorough testing of incoming SMS (I can't afford not to receive them) and additional optimizations that are decribed below. Or am I missing something?
3. optimizations
SuperCharger
Definitively I would like to use the SuperCharger V6 (or is it V8 - any differences?). Which settings profile should I select based on the following demands:
- I don't play games on my phone
- I want a responsive phone with no lag
- The most demanding app I use is Exchange sync (6 accounts), nothing more
Build.prop modifications?
Should I take care of anything here? Maybe change the Dalvik heap size (to what?)
ext3 on sdcard
Can this somehow help me? I have prepared a functioning ext3 partition on my sd, I just don't know if it is possible to somehow manage a swapfile on it and if this should help my phone being less laggy? Can MIUI handle this out-of-the-box?
I kindly thank to anyone who would be willing to help me with advice.
Best regards, d11
I got an OG Droid i use for multimedia... The screen is crystal clear with LIquid Smooth... the launcher sometimes gets buggy but everything works including torch etc... It basically made an old system useful again. I'll try out other system and post my results... Froyo versions first and so on...
