HTC announced this in Chinese language. I guess a English source will be found in next couple of days.
few extra:
HTC also said the most of the developing time will be spent on building the sense UI into new system. The newer devices retail later than 2011 MAY will get the update sooner than the older device like DHD. And some devices like HTC Amaze 4G,Thunderbolt, will get the update in much later time. (i think they mean more than 4 months)
This is a direct translation, sry for my baaaad english. i dont remember IS came out before or after MAY 2011?

Dude, ICS is optimized for multi-core phones because Gingerbread or Froyo do not use more than one core. There are certain apps and games out there that use all cores but that's another story.

There is no question that ICS will be on the Incredible S in one form or another (CM9 or AOSP) soon after the AOSP source is made available. The topic of this post is whether we will see an 'official' ICS version with Sense from HTC.

f the Nexus S gets Ice Cream Sandwich, which it will, I'm pretty sure the Incredible S will get Ice Cream Sandwich since they have similar specs.
I wouldn't even think about Ice Cream Sandwhich when HTC hasn't even pushed out Gingerbread to all the Incredible S's.
only time will tell, HTC's gone slow.
If anything, HTC is faster than it used to be. I waited 8 months for a 2.1 update on my Hero from the first announcement to actual delivery. It's been less that half that for the IS.

Does anyone know if there has been any news about ICS and the IS?
I am hoping that the update might fix my random reboot problem I have with my IS
Even if HTC doesn't give official support for it (Ice Cream Sandwhich), 3rd party developers such as CyanogenMod would probably port it over. Since the Nexus S will surely get the OTA update, it's a good guess that the Incredible S would be able to run it as well.
My $0,02.
There is no way in hell we'll get ics, these phones were never designed to run anything over gb and sense 3.0. From what we've seen from our development teams it will be ported over from another handset providing that something with similar specs gets the update.

2. 3.7 was mostly about adding nfc chip capabilities
are you trying to jump infront of time with a time machine? even nexus prime hasn't been announced yet and now you're already wanting to know whether incredible s gets ICS.
take a chill pill, we'll all know when time comes.
I've been with HTC device since 2001 (my old Wallaby....), but I'm really annoyed by HTC behaviour: instead of releasing a phone once a week they should really take care and support their devices and their customer.
I became very lazy and I haven't yet installed a custom rom on my IS (yet), but thanx God, there are people like the CyanogenMod team that helps us keeping our devices up to date.
Thanx folks.
I do not think the problem is whether the device was designed for ICS or not. It's just too expensive to build, test and support all the devices they are putting into the market.
Regards,
I don't know why people are moaning so much, what other phones have official ICS right now? That's right, just one.
Have patience, HTC are one of the better companies with regards to updates. Samsung are terrible.
What do you think, will Android 4.0 be available for our phone? I'm not optimistic, probabably they will put it on dual-core phones only, but who knows...

I understand this team has taken the responsibility to develop the software to IncS in future CM releases?
Google said that all gingerbread running devices can run ICS without any problem, so it basically means that our Inc S can run it as well..
so even if HTC doesn't update our phones then we can hope to see some love for Inc S via custom ROMs..
Officially supported: I know what it means. You don't know means.
Sory for bad English.
The CM team were the ones that coined the next version as CM9, skipping CM8 as there was no Honeycomb based ROM for our phones.
I would think they plan on continuing to include CM9 for the IncS.
My 2 cents.

Agreed..
I'm pretty sure officially supported doesn't mean for one single cm version..
At least it hasn't for any of the other phones.
The HTC Magic is "officially supported". Does that have CM7.1?
If Kali and Attn1 decided they no longer wished to keep supporting the IncS then someone else would have to step up and take over.
Just because a phone is "officially supported" it doesn't mean that it's definitely going to get a future version.
it'll be such a letdown if only cm has ICS.. i'd like to see sense roms with ICS too.
(been a sense freak since day 1 of getting my incS)
One of the major reasons why I bought an HTC mobile is because HTC is the front runner in releasing updates. I hope HTC gives support to my reason. Keeping my fingers crossed.

This is all just speculation at this point it time. You both bring up good points, especially about what Kali and attn1 may decide as far as CM9, so we just need to wait and see how this plays out for the IncS.

HTC knows how excited our fans are to get their hands on Google's latest version of Android, Ice Cream Sandwich, so we're thrilled today to announce the first wave of HTC phones that will receive upgrades: We can confirm the brand new HTC Vivid is upgradeable to Ice Cream Sandwich. In addition, Ice Cream Sandwich is coming in early 2012 to a variety of devices including the HTC Sensation, HTC Sensation XL and HTC Sensation XE, as well as the HTC Rezound, HTC EVO 3D, HTC EVO Design 4G and HTC Amaze 4G through close integration with our carrier partners. We're continuing to assess our product portfolio, so stay tuned for more updates on device upgrades, timing and other details about HTC and Ice Cream Sandwich.
Well, I would be happy with sense 3.0 and gingerb 2.3.5. for the time being. That should be here pretty soon according to Mr O'brian.
Hope we get it before christmas.

I'm not so sure about that too. All resources will go to ICS and newer models. We are done.
CM looks to be the only team supporting our phone
Are all of those phones dual-core?
My guess is that HTC was under some pressure to make an announcement since other manufacturers had made more definitive announcements. So HTC announced these phones would get ICS (which were the easy decisions) while giving themselves more time to think about their other phones. I would be suprised if one of HTC's single-core phones does not eventually get ICS.

Brings back hope to some HTC owners
A rather interesting HTC update list has been leaked on Twitter showing that there is still hope that some HTC smartphones like the One S, Droid Incredible 4G and the EVO 4G will get the Jelly Bean update.
As noted, the list was leaked on Twitter by Football4PDA, a source that was proven reliable in a couple of leaks before. The list included codenames that are actually, HTC One X+, One XL, Droid Incredible 4G LTE, EVO 4G LTE, One SV, One VX, One S, One S C2 and the HTC J smartphones.
Hopefully HTC will confrim the leaked update list soon.

HTC phones to get Jelly Bean update “revealed” on Twitter
by Adrian Diaconescu on Dec 10, 2012 with 8 Comments
Although it’s still a bit early to call this one, HTC seems to be on the right track for recovery after a long and painful string of financial losses. The One X+ and especially the Droid DNA might have got the Taiwanese out of the serious pickle they were in, but on the flipside the Jelly Bean upgrading process looks quite bad.
It’s been a while since the last time HTC officially tackled the “Jelly Bean situation”, and, with only one phone being currently upgraded (and rather slowly), you can say things aren’t looking good for people still on ICS.
A bittersweet piece of intelligence has just come to our attention though via Twitter, where a “list of HTC devices that will get JB update” has been posted. The info comes via @Football4PDA, an infamous and rather trustworthy source of leaks and rumors that has provided us in the past with quite a number of precious and accurate pieces of HTC-related info.

[This time Football seems to go the extra mile to keep the suspense surrounding the “report”, listing the devices that will supposedly get JB under their not so famous codenames. Fortunately, after doing some digging, we think we know the official names of all those phones.
First off, we have the “Evitare”, which is the recently released One X+ with LTE. The thing is this big buy already runs Android 4.1, so either Football mentions it to ensure us that it’ll get 4.2 or it’s a mistake. The “Evita” is the One XL, which is basically a regional version of the One X. This was released way back in May with ICS, so a JB upgrade is definitely long overdue.
Next up we have the “Fireball”, aka Droid Incredible 4G LTE. This was a rather puzzling (barely) high-ender that hit Verizon last summer and that didn’t prove awfully popular. Then again, with Jelly Bean butter, the Incredible could finally live up to its name.
Lower on HTC’s evolutionary chain we have the “Jewel” and “Totem C2”. These are most definitely the EVO 4G LTE and One VX. Both are carrier-exclusive phones in the US, available on Sprint (the EVO) and AT&T (the VX). The One VX however has only started selling a few weeks ago, so it might be a while until it gets the 4.1 bump.
Click to collapse
The next three devices on the list are the Ville, Ville C2 and Valente, aka One S, One S C2 and J ISW13HT. You’re probably already familiar with the One S, while the C2 and J are more or less similar, sporting 4.3-inch displays themselves.
The One S C2 however has a 1.7 GHz dual-core CPU, while the J, as you might have guessed already, is a Japan-only mid-ranger with a 1.5 GHz processor. Last, but not necessarily least, we also have a yet to be released device on the list, the K2 or the One SV. This was supposed to come to Europe already, but for some reason it’s delayed, so there’s a (slim) possibility it could be released with Jelly Bean on board.
Now, to clarify, why did I say this is bittersweet intel? Well, mostly because of the notable absences on the list. We’ve known for a while that phones with 512 MB of RAM will not be invited to the JB party, but what about the Sensation, Desire X, Incredible S or Amaze? Sure, no one says Football’s list is a complete and definitive one, but it definitely makes you think, doesn’t it?

Just as I thought, those are all sense 4.0 phones. Most likely getting sense 3.6 was a final farewell to the "old" htc phones. They'll use 4.0 as an excuse saying that these phones aren't capable of running 4 and therefore aren't possible to update.

Evo 4G? That phone is ancient. Nexus one hardware. Are you sure they didn't mean evo 4g Lte?
FWIW I bought the wife a nook color for Christmas and it's got an omap 3 in it which is along the same type of hardware as the first generation snapdragon in the evo and jelly bean works on it but it's pretty choppy animation wise. No oem would want that on their hardware.
I'm pretty sure they were talking about the evo lte which is basically a custom made one x for sprint.

Yes the article says evo 4g lte..which is a snapdragon s4. The only s3 on that list is the ville c2. If it actually gets it I may attempt a port. Don't get your hopes up though..I've never had a successful sense port lol
And tbh as smooth as the aosp builds are I don't know that I'll still have that desire once its released

Yeah after bluetooth is done, I'd imagine using an aosp build and adding sense 4.1 wouldn't be impossible, inotherwords we could make our own update!

The sense apps rely HEAVILY on sense framework. The second you start mixing sense framework, its not aosp and here come the bugs
But I love htc's camera too

Yeah definitely its all in or all out with sense. I've come to find most of my lag issues with this phone are from mixing it up, ie using nova and freezing rosie, or using gosms instead of the sense messaging app. As soon as you start doing that, stuff starts breaking, and things get laggy.
Now I am running pure wcx stock build, and completely happy with it because I've just accepted sense. Pretty much if you don't like sense, flash a senseless or cm build. If you like parts of sense, use it all

I too am kinda confused by this list. I looked at the specs for the HTC One S, and it's pretty much the same as the Vivid, just clocked a little higher. I'm sure the Vivid could officially run Jelly Bean, but for one thing, it would take forever to actually reach us OTA (ahem AT&T). The other reason I can think of that the Vivid isn't on the list, is that if HTC kept updating its older devices, who would buy their new ones?
Anyway, that's why I came to XDA, to see what my Vivid is truly capable of
Yeah, Vivid has been out for quite a while and wasn't very popular. So makes sense that they wouldn't bother with it.
