Default sound enhancement - HTC Incredible S

The built-in music app that comes with Android is really nice looking and functional, so I want to use that for my music. Problem is, the sound is really bad. See, it defaults to SRS-enhancement. I know some people rave about SRS- or Beats-enhancement, but they're wrong. I've got a Forte in my PC that delivers, well, not perfect music, but many times cleaner music than what many others hear. I've compared that to the phone using my AD700s and there's no doubt that both SRS and Beats distort the music considerably and arguably too much/in a bad way. I like my music clean (i.e. not with an overly punchy bass and a high pitch the phone can't handle), so I want it to default to "no enhancements", but how do I do that? For now, I'm using Winamp, but I see no reason to use that if I can fix this problem.

Install poweramp it has a full functioning equalizer.
Also you can set enhancement to "none"

Oh and once you select a song in your default music player and it brings up the now playing screen you can hit the menu button on the bottom of your phone and select "enhancements" and change the settings in there I believe you can remove the srs there.

I can, but it defaults back to SRS if I remove the headphones.

use poweramp or playerpro

It's decent, I think. Haven't used it a lot, but the sound quality is good. Pretty much just your average music player.

I tried normal Winamp, does anyone tried Winamp pro?

Can anyone recommend any great music players for android?
i really like 3.

can't find it in the market
I searched in the market using "3" but couldn't find it. i also searched for "cubed" and a no show either.
I made a thread regarding this app in the themes and apps section. It is pretty nice although the playlist design could be slightly better. Search the market for Filipe Abrantes! Personally, I just use the music mod now as the stock player, while very capable, was just so ugly. The mod solves this issue.

Search the Android Market by pressing and holding the number 3 on keyboard, until a superscript 3 appears.
Doubletwist, if it's still free.
Just search Filipe Abrantes and it comes up right away!

thanks!!!
I don't play a lot of music on my phones, I have a 32G Zen for that.. but I do it occationally..
I've tried Mort Player, 3 (Cubed), MixZing... They do different things, none of them great... I'd like to find a fairly simple player that one can build a playlist in, but allows multiple ways to find the music...
For example, Mort Player's big thing is "folder playing", well IMO that's just ONE METHOD of finding the music.. Browse by folder, or browse by tag. Not sure why that's the "big feature" in that player, as it's IMO very limiting.
3 and MixZing are a bit overdone, and 3 makes it cute but slow to find a particular album or song to play without searching. And yes, I've tried the different View's, the "Wall" one is the best for me, I suppose...
Honestly I'd rather just have a list by tags or to browse by folder, add to queue, replace queue.. That simple.
I organise my music and other audio files in folders rather than tagging things by album etc. For this arrangement, best I've found is "Mortplayer Audio Books". Don't be fooled by the title, it works great for plain music. It remembers exactly where you last played in multiple folders, so you could for example have different albums in different folders, and as you switch between them it continues where you last left off.

+1, DoubleTwist is amazing
bTunes - Simple to use, plenty of options.
BTunes Player is cool
I use bTunes because of the lockscreen widget
³ looks really nice!
but I can't for the life of me figure out how to make it just shuffle through all my music? it just sticks to one album?
even the stock player just works out of the box and plays through all my tracks.. even repeat doesn't seem to work in ³.. such a great player and missing such simple features?
Sheesh, are there NO players for Android that allow building a playlist/queue!? Do people really just use shuffle mode these days?
³ lets you build a queue.
hmm.. ³ won't let you open an m3u ?
Do I seriously have to sit and add all my tracks into a queue or something? I must be missing something here.
I like museek

PowerAMP? I would like a speedy and great music player PLUS I like to play SomaFM.

Is PowerAMP the one for me? I use DoubleTwist right now, and it's got lots of issues. But it does let me get to some SomaFM Stations.
IMO Poweramp does not compare with any player on Output. its almost like they have muted the audio output on it. Its the only player that I have come across that does this.
Poweramp defaults to having the equalizer and tonal control on. Go into the Equalizer settings and unclick EQU and PRE and TONE. Once done the volume is equal to the Samsung music player at least for me. Poweramp is awesome simply because of that customizable equalizer.

Tried that.......no worky........I tried comparing the stock music app and Poweramp using your method, and any other setting I could find. Poweramp is aesthetically pleasing, but the sound quality isn't up to par with me.
The equalizer became obsolete with Voodoo Sound! Which is one of the greatest improvements to this phone. Thanks Supercurio!

That was my experience, as well. I tried a song at the same sound level with both and with PowerAMP I could hear some noticeable distortion. Sucked because I paid for it and am no longer using it.

You might want to try the moto music app from here. It's loaded with tons of features. Auto looks up words for your songs while they're playing and highlights them as they're sung. Links to YT vids, has shoutcast, tune identification via sound hound (I believe), links to tunewiki, has sleep timer, and downloads songs. Doesn't have a equalizer though. IMO, the sound quantity and quality is comparable to the Samsung app. Oh, it's also free.

I checked this one out after reading your post. It's a great music player! Hands down the best one I have yet found. Thanks for the info.
what are you guys talking about with poweramp sucking?
the default music app and playerpro don't even find my music because they are apparently unable to handle album-structure. what the hell? even IF their sound quality was better, i refuse to put all of my mp3s into one folder.
plus - when i first tried out poweramp yesterday, i was stunned by the sound. same equalizer settings as on my computer with soundblaster x-fi and winamp and it sounds a hint fuller. and it can push bass even further without distortion - i didn't even know my headphones were able to produce that and had to reduce it because while it worked, it didn't sound good any more.

Same here......... My SD card is fully structured as well.
It even links artist pics, and sorts the albums under the artist pics.
Overall its a great player. I like how there is a music player that actually integrates lyrics properly now.
If your having good luck with PowerAMP, then that's good for you! My overall experience with it wasn't good.
huh... i wonder what the problem is with my phone as i would like to compare these apps. but what the hell, poweramp works great and i don't want to spend hours figuring out what's wrong. -_-
Poweramp works great. For those that have problems with muted sound, you have to go into the equalizer and raise the settings. If this causes distortion, lower the pre-amp setting or turn off tone. I usually keep my pre-amp setting a third of the way up. Even close to half way will cause some distortion. I've tried every music app I could find on different speakers and poweramp is the best MUSIC player. Pro player is nice but eq doesn't compare to poweramp. Looks alone though, Proplayer is mighty pretty but I didn't spend $2000 in speakers for a pretty music app. Poweramp = best sound.
I use PowerAmp bc i like the widget best. The MotoMusic app thats on these forums is awesome though. Ijust like poweramps widget better

[Q] Good Music Player for Galaxy

Hello
I'm looking for good music player for my Galaxy S.I've been using PlayerPro but it started to play up just like this.I don't really like PowerAMP so please don't speak about it.Player must have an EQ and should look quite nice
tried a few different players: ended up using Music Folder Player Free as my preferred player
poweramp
10 char
ubermusic
or google music
poweramp is very good
I'm quite happy with miui's stock one (from mintberry).
Has great integration with the system, a great lockscreen widget, plays a folder (this is a must for me, i don't bother with tagging) and an equalizer.
The only downside is if you're not running miui, I don't know if/how you can use it.
Ps: lol, did anyone even read the part where he specifically does not want poweramp?

Just try the 3 'cubed' player, its wicked, great choice of displays, equaliser, lock screen widget, no dodgy background service running after you stop it, fetches all art in one go, manually select folders

poweramp for me as well, the absolutely best I've tried, you could manually select what folders you want included and a builtin equalizer that works ok. Well worth buying also.

Recommend a Music Player

Hey all, I'm looking for a music player. I've always used poweramp in the past, but I'm having some stability issues with it. I generally listen to music for about an hour a day in my car via Bluetooth. Lately, for some reason, poweramp hangs and then reboots the phone.
I've tried Play Music for a couple of days now, and no reboots so far.I do miss a couple of poweramp features though. I like the swipe to change tracks, and the setting to keep the screen on while playing.
Any other recommendations for Music players?
Edit: I should mention the portrait-only aspect of Apollo disqualifies it. My phone is in a cradle in landscape in my car.

I'm using noozy, no groundbreaking features and not as many options as power amp, but the sound quality is just too good to pass up. I listen with my headphones, so I'm not entirely sure if you'd notice the difference with your Bluetooth car speakers. If you listen to music with headphones or something of that sort though, I'd highly advise trying this player

I've always had to bump up my min cpu speed to use bluetooth audio and it work well on multiple phones and versions of android. Usually 400 seems to be the most responsive min speed for a variety of things to me. From bluetooth issues to gps issues to seeing who is calling fast enough to answer.

I've never overclocked this phone at all.
I tried setting minimum CPU to 400MHz as suggested in this thread, and so far it has worked. I haven't tested it enough to be sure.
been using n7player for about a week now. its got a really nice interface, built in eq and sound quality is better than say gmusic. be sure to grab their beta by liking their facebook page. it fixes some issues in the play store app

Except when it randomly causes your phone to reboot.:cyclops:
I'll be sticking with poweramp though, because raising the minimum cpu to 400 MHz seems to have solved the problem, and had a pretty negligible effect on battery life.
Thanks for all the suggestions folks.
Yeah, that's what I've found as far as 400 being min. Glad it helped some for ya.

I have PlayerPro as well, and i must say that app rocks!!!! very easy to use for the driver who wants to quickly change a song(especially w/ volume rocker controls enabled) As far as BT, that technology can be a ***** sometimes tho....go along w/ DPEEPS and try to bump up your min cpu speed a hair. :good:
Why does everyone have to bump up their min CPU? doubleTwist does a great lagless job on 100/1000 cfq/ondemand!!

I don't have to. I prefer to. I've found that everything that most people complain about...gps, bluetooth, playing music, general lag, etc...are all non issues for me when I use 400 as min cpu. It held true on my hero and it holds true on my ns4g.

How do you think the HTC stock music app compares to third party options?

I've spent the last four hours reading about various music apps and apparently some sound much better than others...
Do most of you use the stock HTC app or something else like PlayerPro, PowerPlay, or WinAmp Pro? Those seem to be the best options, unless Neutron has cleaned up it's UI.
The only real complaint I have is that if you play an artist and then go back to the list it doesn't remember where you were in that list and just puts you at the top.
I've also noticed that friends phones sound better(richer) when they're using PlayerPro, but that could be EQ settings.
So what do you use and what do you like about it?
I don't really care which player plays my music. As long as it can play the files I have I just go with that
The only problem I have with it is that it lacks gapless playback, which I know isn't important to everyone, but it is to me. Oh and you can't manually change your album artwork so they quality of the pictures ends up being pretty low. Otherwise I think it's a pretty big improvement on the Htc One X's, or rather ICS's Sense player.
Playerpro is by far the BEST of all music players I have tried. It has an option for almost anything. I'm almost 100% sure it keeps your place in the list, but it definitely keeps the album you were playing. The players has gapless, the album flow keeps the pictures in memory so you don't get that loading pictures thing when scrolling, lyrics are saveable, album artwork chooosable, and the DSP pack allows even more customization. But other then that i also has a whole bunch of skins to choose from if you get bored of one try another, it's great! It also lets you use the stock music lockscreen with is great. There are so many more advantages to Player Pro, my recommendation
My only gripe is that you do not have a shuffle option in a playlist which is such an easy fix,I hope HTC fix this in a future update.

I was actually wondering about this as well. Such a basic feature and it doesn't have it My year old HoX has it lol.
I have PowerAmp Pro installed but actually prefer the stock music app as I like the lockscreen controls and similar gestures to PowerAmp. I also like how you can access all of your songs from the music player without having to unlock the phone.
As an aside, I am hating the Mail app but only use it due to the lockscreen notifications and don't want to install Widget Locker. Wish there was a way to use the Gmail App and still receive lockscreen notifications.
