I'm looking for a way to unlock my phone when it has a pattern lock without physically interacting with the phone. Is there some way to do this from a root shell?
Lol... trying to snoop through someone's phone?

No, just trying to make it a bit easier to interact with it when in the car.

That makes no sense.
if your driving it could make sense
Why not just disable lockscreen or change the timeout to never

How would adb shell while driving be easier than a pattern unlock?
Something stinks here!
I often run line commands while I'm driving too

I think he is looking to bypass the pattern lock through adb. What this has to do with a car is beyond me. More likely he is looking to snoop through someones phone that is pattern locked. Girlfriend's phone maybe. Either way I can't think of any legit reason you would want to unlock a pattern lock through adb. Unless you forgot the pattern. Although again, what's that gotta do with a car and what kind of genius forgets his pattern

ahh ok i understand. yea im not able to think of a pratical application for this either. unless you can use voice with the scripts. then you could speak your password and that would make sense.

There are easier ways to achieve voice control of your phone then that. Also the OP seems to have abandoned the thread so makes me suspicious

there is an app for voice unlock ? im defintely going to download that for when i get my car. yea im pretty sure he just wanted to hack someone's phone too. would be pretty cool for a POC but wouldnt like people being able to do it over the internet or anything

I don't know about any voice unlock but you could just put screen always on, plug in a charger and use a voice control app

Sorry, it's been a busy few days. I can have Tasker run scripts when I plug it into the dock or connect to a particular bluetooth device. I would like for a way to unlock the phone from within the script. I'd like to keep the lock screen enabled for when it's not in the car. Ideally, I plug it into the car, and, if locked, the phone unlocks (and starts doing whatever else I want it to do in that instance). It's fairly annoying to have to tap out or slide out my unlock code when the thing is hanging from my windshield, especially if I'm driving, in a hurry, or what have you.
Edit: I never said I wanted to use adb, you're right, adb in the car makes (little) sense but using it to unlock in the car makes less. Regarding hacking: a tire iron would be an easier way to hack said person's phone, or simply watching them enter the unlock code, look at the smudges, etc. If they let me handle the phone enough to be able to access it through adb, I'm pretty sure unlock screen hacking wouldn't be necessary. I imagine if I found a phone that I wanted to unlock but my phone seems to behave strangely with regards to USB debugging. If I have it on, and the phone locks, I am unable to use adb until I toggle the USB debugging option off, and back on again. The phone appears as "Offline" in DDMS. My OG Droid didn't do that though so perhaps I'm trying to spy on my sister... Anyway, if I can get into the phone with adb, and the phone is rooted, and su actually works, there is very little I really need the lock screen for. I can grab any of the data with sqlite, I can force the phone into recovery and reflash it (thereby resetting the locks screen). Hell, I can reset to factory defaults with the magic key combination while booting. I'm not really sure what unlocking the device from adb would really do for me in terms of hacking someone's phone that I couldn't do anyway.
Makes sense actually. I imagine there is a way to unlock, but I don't know it. Sorry

There is an app in the market called car mode control, it comes with a widget you can use as a toggle, you can activate it, and it will keep the screen on, it has access to common apps you would use in a car, and some empty shortcuts you can fill yourself, hope it helps
Droid 1 Rooted (ChevyNo1 0.9MV Kernel, LGB2.6)
Droid 3 Rooted (Stock Kernel, Custom lite De-bloat)
There are actually several apps that do that. I'm using Car Dashboard Pro combined with Tasker to change settings when the car is in the dock. The main issue is unlocking it when I place it into the car. Once it's unlocked, it stays that way but it's that first unlock that I'm trying to avoid.
Best thing i can tell you would be to get a lock disable/enable widget off the market, and toggle when you want to, i dont think anyone has ever tried to script an event to disable pattern locks on event
Droid 1 Rooted (ChevyNo1 0.9MV Kernel, LGB2.6)
Droid 3 Rooted (Stock Kernel, Custom lite De-bloat)
I suspect it would take some AOSP hacking as it looks like that's part of the system UI, this should be exciting.

So I was using the Throttle lock program to lock my diamond but as time went on it got buggyier and buggyier until finally 10 min ago it barley let me get to the program removal setting and remove it. I restarted my phone and it works fine again. Im trying to find a program to lock my screen but everything I find seems buggy on my phone. Ive tried S2U2 and I really like the concept but it wouldnt work right on my phone. im not very inclined at modifying my phone other then installing .rars so im not real sure where to go from here....

Version 2.6.3 can now also unlock via a configurable button sequence. At first there seem to be an overwhelming number of unlock methods and features to configure, but you can just use the one you want to use and keep all the sensors on, they will *NOT* drain battery.
TouchLockPro should work almost out of the box, see here for a QuickStart.
So my HTC Hero has bit it. It has had a bad touch digitizer for about a week now. Is there ANY way to remove my text messages off the phone, perhaps with ADB? My phone will turn on and I can look at the screen but cannot touch anything. As such, I cannot unlock it.
Does anyone have any suggestions?

If it's rooted, you could conceivably pull the database file from it if you knew where it was, someone here should know that and this should bump your post back to the top.

If USB debugging is enabled, you can get a root shell (soft root) with the rageagainstthecage exploit and do what you need to do.

Would it be possible for me to get to it in ADB without rooting the phone?
the path is /data/data/com.android.providers.telephony/databases/mmssms.db
I'm not sure if root access is required, but good luck

Sorry, my experience with ADB is limited. What are the commands I would need, or where would I find a list of commands/functions? I tried the official Android Developer pages and found nothing helpful.
EDIT: Sorry, just got off third shift a couple hours ago and my brain doesn't want to work. I managed to figure out the commands but...
!!!A new challenger appears!!!
I don't have USB debugging enabled. My touchscreen doesn't work. I am in quite a pickle, I believe. I can't get the PC to recognize the phone without USB debugging on. Is there a way to turn it on without a screen?!

Wait... you said just the digitizer is broken? As in, the screen is intact but you just can't make any touch selections?
Are you on the stock (HTC Sense) firmware? If so, you can unlock the phone by pressing MENU on the lockscreen. From there, press MENU again, and use the trackball to navigate to Settings. Turn on USB debugging and root the phone. Install a custom recovery image, then reboot into recovery and do a nandroid backup. Then you'll be able to keep everything, not just your text messages.

It's hard to explain the problem I'm having. The screen doesn't turn on or respond to touch inputs. If I squeeze the phone's sides hard enough, I can get the screen to come on. Soon as I let up, it goes dark. Keys still light up, though. If I do anything with the keys, it doesn't show up on the screen. I have no idea how to get past this.
I am on stock HTC firmware now. I completely reflashed the entire phone with the 2.1 utility. That is, before it randomly stopped working.
After USB debugging is enabled, I can just pull the entire system directory, no? No need for nandroid or anything?
cracked screen
Hey guys My screen is being repaired for the next couple days and I reallly need to check my text messages....Can I get more clearification on what you guys are tallking about because im lost but Im up for anything as long as I can see my texts,
I don't know if it's possible to do this, but it's worth a try. Have you heard of "Air Droid"? It allows you to interface with your phone via a WiFi connection. If you can download an apk file of Air Droid, then flash it to your phone, you might be able to run it. Although your screen digitizer isn't working, your trackball can still select screen items. If it works, you can do a connect to WiFi, see the code, then use the browser interface. I think through that you can access data on the phone, including text messages.
Also, there are some apps that perform SMS to email. You could theoretically have your text messages sent to your email account.
Recently my BFF thinks that her boyfriend is starting to lose feeling for her and start finding other girls. She wants to break up but her boyfriend won't let her go unless she provides evidence that he is losing feeling/cheating on her. She asked me to help but I'm at a loss except for one idea.
It was recently reported in the newspapers that you could bypass all security by freezing an android phone for an hour, then quickly removing the battery and putting it back on and turning it on while it was still below -10 degrees celcius. Is this really possible?
Secondly, his phone is a Galaxy Mini with whatever is the newest firmware (I'm a galaxy Mini II user so I'm not too sure), stock kernel, stock ROM, non-rooted but bootloader i think by default it's unlocked in SG. (mine came unlocked). It's been in use for quite some time only.
If the freezing is not possible, could we do it by any other method? note: before i can get pass the damn password i can't turn adb, unknown sources or debugging on.
Yeah that's all. Also, we can't wipe the /data since that's what we're gunning for. The method must be accomplish-able within 2 hours.
I might sound like I'm asking for a lot and might be unreasonable but please help.
Thanks in advance.
P.S. Please don't talk about the "just break up" or "politely ask him". If that had worked I wouldn't be asking here. He refuses to break up and he refuses to give his phone to me, even to "play". so called ethical hacking through the human link doesn't work anymore. We plan to take his phone for a while, bypass the pattern lock, then sieve through information.

Erm sorry i'm not sure what do you mean by exploits. I'm sorry I'm kinda new to all these stuff.
How do u know that the phone is not "Debugging On"
Most android users are turning on that feature.
Well if the Debugging is ON ... I got the way to unlock the pattern within 1 minute.
Fastest way to bypass: Wipe data. If you can't, there are only harder ways.
Factory reset
You can always do a factory reset to remove the lock but it will wipe /data. You can still do that tho. It's explained here : http://www.hard-reset.com/samsung-gt-s5570-galaxy-mini-hard-reset.html . Also the fastboot mode works with adb swell as download mode.

DISCLAIMER*** I DO NOT OWN A NEXUS 5, AND DO NOT FOLLOW IT HEAVILY THIS IS PURELY BASED ON MY EXPERIENCE TODAY AND MY YEARS OF USING ANDROID OS. I DO NOT USE IT DAILY AND ONLY USE IT EVERY NOW AND THEN FOR CALLS. MY INFORMATION MAY NOT BE ACCURATE AND PURELY BASED ON PREVIOUS USES OF DIFFERENT DEVICES FROM DIFFERENT BRANDS.
THIS MAY BE DISREGARDED OR/AND DELETED
Today my sister nexus 5 (aosp 5.1 "newest") was "stolen".
We spent the day looking all over the place for it and went back to a few stores we visited that day and asked the staff. But it was of no hope. No one has seen or heard of it, so we regarded it as stolen. So after awhile we went home we went to ADM (https://www.google.co.uk/android/devicemanager) and set up a lock and number to call as you would.
After a few hours my dad found it in his car :/ so yeah...
But that's just the bread of it. HERE is the butter:
1)The lock we set up was 100% not in place even tho ADM said it was "sent". AND the mobile data is ON, but this is just how ADM works and it doesn't check if the device receives it or not. Maybe google should add this feature.
BUT even after we got it back and connect to WIFI, the lock did NOT get put in place. Proving the phone does not check for any lock requests at screen unlock. But maybe because she already has a normal pincode in place and it couldn't over ride that :/
after that I took a interest in the security.
2)So i took a deeper look into the security and it flaw, and first off. EVEN locked I could access the status bar and turn on AIRPLANE MODE. This was without the password and I could turn on torch, wifi, mobile data ext off as well. The only thing I couldn't access was the "settings". But I had a great deal of control of the device's connectivity and from there a thief could make his way out without any calls or ANYTHING affecting him.
3)THIS was truly shocking. I'm not sure if this is by default or by accident. But by using the status bar "exploit" i was able to get into the users page and switch to guest mode. From there i was able to grant adb access and access the market. If this phone was rooted I guess you could install some apps to get rid of the lock screen or even install a custom recovery. But them i guess it's up to you to take the action.
As i said before. I do not use it. My sister does. But she does not root or mod, and only follows the AOSP path.
Some exploits may only work because of a few careless button presses. And may not even affect anyone at all if you don't spam the settings with random presses.
Thanks for listening to me and feel free to point out any mistakes i made and share if you could post if these "exploits" work for you. If someone already made a thread please delete this one. Thanks for listening
Actually the only serious thing is the guest mode option.. About the airplane mode, for a thief it would be much easier to simply turn the phone off.. Anyway I completely agree with you.. Google should take more seriously the security part.. It should even be impossible to turn off the phone without a code..
And make the back impossible to open so a thief can't pop out the battery.
Once a phone is out of your physical control, consider everything on it to be compromised, regardless of whatever security you have.
Please delete this. None of this is news or exploits. People have known and been disappointed by it from day 1 of Lollipop going live.
Well removing the battery of the n5 is not immediate.. If a thief want to resell it probably he won't do that until he's at home or wherever and if he couldn't turn it off you could track the position or at least erase your data..

You say Google should take security more seriously. Take that advice. Never assume a thief would act in a manner that accommodates you.
That's right.. Anyway I should try to make his life as complicated as possible ?

with some aluminium fold will easily to block any signal, the phone will eventually turn off.
p.s. If I am the thief which stole a useless phone, I will just break it and throw away. I don't think any thief will say "hey, I can't unlock it, let's return to the owner"
Hello.
It's me again, and I have another problem. Damn machines like to play it hard (or maybe I'm just clicking wrong choices all the time).
Before unlocking my device via MiUnlock I got myself a finger scanned for quick unlocking the phone. It didn't work all the time but was a nice addition to pattern unlock. After unlocking my phone via fastboot mode I was on tour, and during driving, I was in need of screen being on. I turned off pattern/fingerprint unlock in order to get my beloved girl as a guide.
However, when I wanted to turn it on again today, after setting pattern, pin code or passlock, retyping (redrawing) it again and clicking "confirm"...nothing happens.
Is this the "feature" Xiaomi warned about before I was unlocking my phone on MiUnlock?
Can I somehow turn it on again? It seems like a bad joke, that your device can be secure ONLY when totally locked. And when You like to get root access - sorry mate, you are on your own.
Just to clarify - my MIUI is unchanged from the beginning 7.0 with latest possible update via OTA (all the way to 9.2.1.0 NCFMIEK version). I'm looking forward to swapping it for the new one someday, but I would like to know if there's another way around than just reflashing whole phone and reconfiguration process, that always took me much time. I'll get rid of preinstalled vanilla someday anyway, tbh, but I'm just curious. Also – will this be a thing and will it still occur, when I install some custom?
INB4 – buy yourself a car holder, lazy bastard.
INB5 – You could have changed screen awake time option anytime dude, wtf.
INB6 – You dunno anything about unlocking, get back into your cave and keep smashing stones.
INB7 - better try custom ROM... Time for a Change.
