Input model "p970", then click the boxes WINDOWS USB DRIVERS and SOFTWARE UPDATE. They are download links.
thx guys.....
But I ran into another problem....
I was able to update (thx to your help ) but the update was to 2.2.2 not 2.3 as i had hoped....
I made a nandroid backup but now I can't reboot to recovery to get to it without rooting the current version.....
Can you please tell me how to downgrade, to root it or how to boot to recovery?
It tried one touch and gingerbreak, but they just stop responding or force close...
Ps: Can you hold home and power to take a screenshot in froyo 2.2?
Thx in advance...
Come on, there are answers for all your questions in this forum. Just search it.
You can downgrade by KDZU, root all available versions by BlackJack and you NEED root to install CWM to restore nandroid backup.
More here:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1111771
1. Flash firmware (KDZU or R&D Test Tool) version that you have on nandroid backup.
2. After flashing make Hard Reset (3845#*970#).
3. Root by BlackJack (it roots possibly all available firmware versions so far)
4. Install CWM from UPK or download ROM Manager from Market and install CWM from there.
5. Boot into Recovery (CWM) wipe all (data, cache, dalvik, battery) and restore nandroid backup.
6. Reboot
The gingerbread update comes on the 28th, like you've said

thx for your help again guys...
but I keep getting more problems.......
When I try to install some apps, the installer gets stuck and I am forced to pull out the battery.... Any suggestions?

Hi there guys, i just picked up my Milestone from Motorola (had to replace my touch screen) and they sent me back with Froyo installed (i don't think they installed a retail version once it has OI courrier sim tool).
I was using ShadowModBR 0.9.16 on it before but i think i'll use the oficial Froyo for a few days but i would like to root it to uninstall some Motorola crApps.
I already tried some root Apps (Universal Androot, Easy Root, z4root, Easy One-click root, etc...) but none of them worked or i got FC.
I would like to know how to root it and backup my system (in case i wish to install a custom rom one day so i would have a backup of it - just to don't have to install the 2.1 sbf base + update it using Motorola software if one day i would like to return to it)... and because i'm a bit interested in installing CMM7 on it.
I read that i could backup it installing the Vulnerable Recovery + Androidani.. can i root it using these Apps?...
Hope that i make myself clear with these questions... thanks in advance for the reply and sorry 'bout any english mistakes.
ps: i'm kinda noob in Android system.
thx!
Copy AOR to your sd card. Flash vulnerable recovery using RSD.
Boot your phone into recovery mode, apply update.zip and there you go.
If you need portuguese assistance send a PM.
Sent from my Milestone using XDA Premium App
thx wise.. i just sent u a PM
---------------------------------
edit:
thx wise.. i just rooted it and backuped my nand.
for those in doubt here's a short how-to:
- 1: turn the phone off and on again entering bootloader screen.
- 2: plug usb cable and flash it using RSD Lite + VR sbf.
- 3: enter in recovery and apply update so it'll start Open Recovery.
- 4: from here you can choose to root phone, backup nand, etc..
now i'm backing up my user/system data with Titanium backup and after i'll remove the crApps.
thanks!
Dear All
I have a 2 days Galaxy note with stock rom 2.3.6, and I need to root it only for installing some apps which need root, I found alot of methods but I want one that can root and unroot when it is needed for upgrading or else
waiting 4 support a.s.a.p

I used this method:

you cant, you would need to download the original firmware to flash it to stock, you might try one of the backup tool in the market but a full nandroid backup you cant do unless rooted

Ok I have a root now ,
when I rebooted my note to recovery I get this : Android system recovery <3e>
It looks like CWM but has no backup and restore options and thats why Iam confused
How I can get the CWM I used to use with my HTC Sensation
It looks like you only did root when what you wanted was root + CWM.
Go back to Dr.Ketan's guide and look at the procedure below this line that is in the first post:
-----------------------------------------Forget all Above and follow simple Step below------------------------------

My summary of your best options:
Follow from Step 2 and use the already-rooted.bat file
OR
The better (in my opinion) way:
Purchase Mobile Odin Pro(MOP) from the market and go get the CF Root Kernel that matches your firmware to get CWM. Just put the Kernel on your sdcard and run MOP, make sure EverRoot and all injections are checked, select file, find kernel, flash. Done.
MOP has also enabled us to retain root when flashing stock firmware updates by using the EverRoot and injections options, however you will lose most CWM functions when this is done. To regain CWM, you simply follow the same steps as above to update to a matching CF Root Kernel.
Have fun, and be sure to hit the thanks button for Ketan and Chainfire!
Dear beestee,
So: I have Kernel KK2 - Download This - and Extract
then : I am Already Rooted - Execute "already-rooted.bat" and follow the instructions
is there any side effects ? like format ot can not Upgrade via OTA or else?
Is there any thing need to be packed up first? like the original kernel if this method will change it
Nothin side effect, you can upgrade over OTA, BUT If you update over OTA/kies, you will lose Root.
So you have to use CWM or Mobile odin to update newer ROM

Ok I done it and it working, but I found that CWM is a program now you can access from phone not like in HTC where you must inter bootloader and MAGLDR to inter CWM
I can make the backup and restore from inside the program - right?
You can get it with entering recovery too, you have to press Home + Vol UP + Power to enter in recovery mode.
you can simply do it with inside app - restart in recovery
when you give command to backup, it will restart and auto enter in recovery mode and finish it

Hey,
I am trying to fix a friends optimus black. He has CWM recovery installed but when I flash ROMs then reboot system, it just boots straight back to the recovery. Is there anything I am doing wrong? I have tried 3 different ROMs from the dev section, ICS, GB and JB. I make sure to do a full wipe between flashing.
Many thanks, as I don't have much experience with this phone. (Although I have many years experience with flashing android roms)

What do you need? Some ROMs to flash? Find links to kdz files in post 3. Extract and root it yourself (also see post 3 on my how to).
might be redundant saying this but in cwm itself have you flashed the 6.0.1.4 update within itself ald?

I have just done exactly these steps. I have tried flashing both the zeus rom and AOKP jelly bean build 4. Each time the ROM flashes successfully, however when I select "reboot system now," it just boots straight back to recovery again...
The only thing I could think of trying would be to restore a nandroid with cwm. I dont have one though, can anyone link me to a working nandroid, or upload one?
thanks

Hi everyone,
I'm new so please be gentle with me -
Have just rooted my Galaxy GT-S5830
Running Gingerbread 2.3.4,
Baseband S5830BVKQB,
Kernel version [email protected]#1,
Build number GINGERBREAD.BVKQ9
using the file for the GT-S5830 from here: ( http://dengadgets.blogspot.co.uk/201...smarphone.html - root_S5830.zip) successfully, copying it to the root folder of the SD card and flashing it from recovery.
I Then tried to flash CWM 4.0.0.9 using the same method (which I got from http://forum.xda-developers.com/show....php?t=1168417 )
Now when I try and reboot in recovery it crashes at the Galaxy Ace screen, otherwise boots fine, and download mode still accessible - not sure why and am unsure about what to do about it. From reading a fair few Q+A posts I think I might need to flash the phone with stock rom using odin, but:
If I do will that wipe my data? (I have data on the phone that I really don't want to lose, particularly on memo - also can't backup on kies as support say the phone is too old and doesn't have that function available - backing it up is one of the main reasons why i'm going through this in the first place...)
Is there another way if it would wipe the data?
How do I avoid getting back in the same mess when flashing CWM?
If I do flash a stock rom / firmware with odin, does it have to be the one that was on there originally [France (Orange)] or can I use the latest UK one (with Gingerbread 2.3.5)?
I really apologise if this has been answered many times - i can't find it but would be grateful to anyone that can help / point me in the right direction

[Solved] I unrooted using SuperSu. Reset the phone and flashed the stock recovery with the help of reefuge's file. and normally updated the device by checking for updates. Again reset the phone after updating. As of now everything is working fine.

just install a recovery image to match rom - tell me build number and system version in about phone and i will find correct recovery from my collection and show you how to flash
as long as its a xt1068 recovery and you flash it correctly even if its wrong build version it wont do harm phone would boot and get ota updates - just wont install updates.........
xt1068 can take ANY xt1068 regional version of rom - i have made my UK phone a german/ brazil / global just by flashing regional versions of 5.0.2
Built number LXB22.46-28
System version 22.21.28titan_retaildsds.retaildsdsall.en.03 retin
you must have motorola device manager 2.5.4 installed (this installs titan fastboot drivers) you can re install and choose repair if unsure
download attached zip file to pc and unzip
plug in usb cable and put phone into AP FASTBOOT MODE
this is done by holding power and volume down till screen goes black and chimes then still holding volume down release power count to 5 and release vol down - should now be in boot loader / ap fastboot mode
run recovery flasher.bat from inside unzipped folder on pc

Don't use kingroot! That's a very bad method to root your phone and also causes the long booting times. Also kingroot has nothing to do with chainfires rooting toolkit. That's ok and if you used it (after unlocking bootloader) I apologize.
In both cases do what @reefuge wrote, install the rom from his signature. Check if you got the right version for your model.
