Sudden shutdowns Cyanogenmod - Motorola Droid and Milestone Q&A, Help & Troublesh

I'm using the latest CM, before installing removed all data, wiped caches, but now sometimes I experience sudden shutdowns. I would like to post this in the CM forum, but I'm not allowed to because of the minimum of 10 posts.. really not user friendly if you ask me?

About the user friendly - yeah, I agree..
And about the sudden shutdowns-
backup all your data - nandroid backup
wipe all,
install the latest verison of CM
and than try to restor data only(in nandroid options)
see if it helps.
if not, there is something wrong with the kernal,
so try another verison of the rom or diffrend rom like SHADOWMOD.
if you have some time, try burn the stock froyo again, and restore data.

I got something like that, im having restarts for the last 2 versions of kal`s roms.. the 0.3 and 0.4.
The restarts are random, and they happen sometimes during the day (or night, i mean, multiple restarts)

Rom troubles

I have flashed a couple roms to my phone I take all the right steps flashing back to stock rom first and all. But any rom I flash after a day my phone starts vibrating and resets it self. Can some one help.
You need to post more info....what rom, what are you restoring after flashing, what are you doing when the problem occurs..
I was flashing cognition 2.3b6, even happens with regular froyo rom. When it resets I'm not doing anything. Just vibrates and resets.
Obviously something is causing your soft reboots.....this can be caused by many things but should not occur unless something is being modified such framework or you are restoring something from 2.1 that is not compatible with 2.2
After you flash to 2.2, what steps do you take, ie do you use titanium backup to restore apps and/or data? Are you applying any mods such as custom battery?
No I don't use nothing besides the rom. I even formatted my card.
Confused then....i have flashed many different roms including cog and have not had problems unless I do something that causes it
I would try a different rom....axura is great, the i9000 ports are nice as well.
Sorry I cannot help more
Before you flash, try wiping the dalvik cache. See if that helps.
Swyping...please read slowly!
don't know how to do that is that the same as the user catch.

In CWM, under advanced. Take a gander.

[Q] Which bit have I fubared? Kernal? ROM?

Bit of an odd situation here, and I appreciate I may not be able to give you enough info to be helpful.
My Galaxy i9000 (vodafone uk) has suddenly started behaving oddly - multiple force closes with everything except stock apps.
Happened after I tried to do a regular backup. Phone was fine, I booted into CWM recovery, did the backup, rebooted, and all hell broke loose!
I'm running hardcore's kernal (2.6.32.9) - k12p 500hz. Upgraded from my last hardcore kernal and running without issues about a week ago. ROM is XXJPY.
I've tried: Factory reset
Wipe all caches
Restore old backups - the one I did last night. FC's all over. Restore an earlier backup - from the beginning of this month. Same result.
Also seem to have lost all my phone customisation - home screens etc.
Does anyone have any idea which bit I've broken, and how I should go about fixing? Does it sound like a kernal or a ROM prob...?

[Q] CWM Restores a perfect restore?

I was wondering how perfect of a restore a CWM restore is.
I was running a custom GB ROM (rocket rom to be exact) and it was running flawlessly. I then decided I might try this new CM9 ICS ROM.
So to be sure about the CM9 install, I figure I'd install from a stock GB Rom. So I first did a CWM backup of my current rocket rom and then I restored an older stock (rooted) ROM. It seemed to work fine. Then.... after reading about the (few) issues wit this new CM9 rom I decided I'd wait a bit longer until a few more of the quirks are worked out.
So I then restored back my Rocket rom backup and even doing the flash cache and davik cache also. But now I notice my once working Rocket ROM is experiencing a lot of SODs.
So now I'm wondering how perfect my restore was. I really don't have a lot of apps or wireless networks and can easily restore my contact list. For that reason, do you think it'll help if I do a factory reset wipe and then reinstall everytyhing....or even go so far as reinstall rocket rom and then reinstall everything else manually without any restores...would that be really the best clean install....or would any of this not make a difference at all and wiping/reinstall a toatl waste of time and my prob is actuaully something else....
Thanks
I could do with knowing the answer to these questions too.
It would be good to get a detailed idiots guide to CWM, do's and don't's etc.
Well a clean install will surely get you rid of the SODs. There is some app and its data that is conflicting with the system and crashes the whole phone. So if you are ready to clean install everything that will fix everything

sleep of death, its the device not waking up properly from sleep
Pus it doesnt include efs, so its not complete backup. Handy if yu stay n same rom version, but thats likely not.
Squicky clean install is always best. Even only app and data recovering thought titanium can mess things up. Make it laggy and nonfunctional etc, Blegh

1. Install abyssnote42
2. Factory wipe, cache, dalvik
3. Restore your rocketrom backup
That's what i do with my rocketrom v23 backup
Zapped through server hops to XDA forums
its not perfect but its the best so far
all i can say is that cwm is the best and simple thing for me so far and if u get trouble some times while trying to shift from CM9 to normal ics or from gb to ics all I suggest is use redpill recovery from abbysnote

Yeah, mine does that from the clock on Dragon ICS 2.4 when charging it didn't use to, started since I started Dual Booting. 2.5 is out in the next hour or so according to the Dev page. Hope it fixes an otherwise awesome ROM.. Otherwise it's back to single booting and possibly on to Omega 12 until CheckROM is released..

[P] /data startup problem

Hi Folks,
so here's my problem, the other day I got the standard "not enough space"-warning and I thought crap there must be a solution to this by now, so I checked and found that script that cleans up the cache etc.
So today suddenly apps(mostly gapps) started crashing one after another, without them even being open, just as it would do when space in /datadata got very low. The phone was basically unoperable, so I restarted it and it was stuck at the boot screen(blue flashing screen, not before). I tried everything to get rid of this, clearing different caches, new nightly, new skript version....nothing.
So I did a nandroid backup, reset the whole thing and started it, everything went fine. Another restart into recovery flash nand-backup....back to old habits :/
Still not wanting to give up I reset it again and reflashed only /system.....all worked, reset it again and only flashed /data.....stuck again. So it must have something to do with the /data-partition, since I would really love to have my data and apps back it would be great if someone could help me out here.
Device-Info: newest CM9-nigthly, kernel that CM9 uses, of course I9000

[Poll] Do you still have call issues after a CLEAN install of CM10?

I see people have less chances to deal with call issues if they install CM10 through the clean way.
Please DON'T vote if you didn't install CM10 "correctly" and DON'T mention another issues here beside network related.
I think everyone has issues with CM10 no matter what....
At least one bug I got all the time: You can't make a video call in gtalk, it gets FC'ed immediately.

he's talking about calling through the cellular network, not gtalk or other issues. Please keep on topic.
I did a clean install of CM10 from the very start and had no call issues. I did experiment with an SU660 baseband before returning to V21b - and that also required a clean install. I guess I'm one of the lucky ones.
The problem I see here is what do you consider a clean install? I am not so sure myself.
Is smartflashing a BB then install CM10 clean enough?
I think of my installation as clean because
1) I came from CM7 (Temasek's last kang) after a factory reset.
2) Before that, I came from NVflash of Homero's ROM to recover from a corrupted CM9 leak flash
Since the first Nightly, I didn't have the "no audio in network calls" EXCEPT once with a Viber call where the other side could not hear me. It was fixed with a reboot.
BTW, I smartflashed 1 time during the 2-3rd nightly, to match RC's BB...
Now on yesterday's Nightly, 6 November, with auto time zone working finally.

Oops sorry, I missed the "call".
Anyways, I always do a clean install, and I always get the audio bug (First nightly, and nightlies 3 and 4).
i have no problem on clean install.. wipe data partition, wipe cache, then advance wipe dalvic cache then format/system and format/cache then install zip from sd card, then wait till finish then use it more than 2 mins then reboot again to recovery then flash the gapps, then reboot.. voila i have no call issue,so far.. BTW i came from CM7 of gueste v3.7..

the problem i think like new2city posted is misconception regarding clean install (full wipe)...
i myself didnt know what full wipe was but i googled it as i needed for flashing paranoid android rom(as it was my first custom rom) n what i found was...
1) wipe data/factory reset
2) wipe cache partition
3) mounts and storage/ format cache, data and system
4) advanced/ wipe dalvik cache
i do this before every installation whenever possible..
correct me if im wrong
EDIT: oops sorry didnt read the above post properly..
Allways did clean install. First time had audio problem after a few calls. Problem was gone when i changed bb

why wait for 2 minutes?, before installing gapps. every time i just install it right after the nightly install finishes
up untill nightly 05 (always with clean install) tried like 5 different basebands and still had problems, am back gueste hybrid for now or if someone actually makes a stock-like ics I'll go there cause I need stability over nice and new software and to actually be able to use the phone side of my optimus at all times . I LOVE CM but for now it's a only a hassle.
the issues with calls dont appear just after flashing a new rom..they take from some hours to a day or two to start.
i reverted to cm7 with a nandroid backup with a factory wipe and...
cm10 call bug and plugging in the charger bsod bugs showed up
Sent from my Optimus 2X using xda premium
I continue with the problem
clean is installed, it worked perfectly after a day the problem a terrible noise.
Reinstall one baseband and followed the problem ..
Even if nothing gets fixed, thanks for this thread, now I've REALLY flashed a clean install
I formatted everything, my phone was even unbootable!!! Put the latest nightly in the external sd card and had to hold volume down to access CWM! It might be random or placebo, but the instead of the phone being a bit unresponsive at first, like the other times I flashed, it was great right from the first boot!! Even if doesn't fix the audio bug, thanks for this
Cheers!
With latest nightly of CM10 and clean instal i have more issues then before... very strange... i have baseband v20s and i am from Romania
