Hello!
We would like to announce the public availability of the root exploit we use in Revolutionary, named zergRush.
This local root exploit should be Android-wide, across Froyo (2.2) and Gingerbread (2.3). However, this will not work on Android Honeycomb and up (3.0+).
Simultaneously, we're also releasing source code for this root exploit through our github.
The binary is available from here: zergRush binary.
The exploit source is available here: Revolutionary GitHub.
Usage:
You will need adb shell to execute this exploit. We need shell permissions.
Push the binary onto /data/local/ and execute these commands in a shell:
Code:
$ chmod 755 /data/local/zergRush
$ /data/local/zergRush
The resulting output should look something like this:
Code:

What do you mean by temp root. Will I loose it once I reboot?

yep, reboot and u loose root
Welp, with temp root, you can kill bloatware now.
I can't wait to pick one of these bad boys up, I've wanted an HTC phone for the longest time, and with LTE, it makes it that much more desirable.
Thanks for posting this. I'm happy we have a forum so soon.

Get one of the bloatware freezers from the Market after you have temproot and SU put on the phone than you can freeze the bloatware rather than out right removing them.. The Reason to freeze them first is in case they cause FC's for some unknown reason you can unfreeze them or just reboot the phone. I mean once we have full root and all that stuff and can backup the Stock OS than removing the Apps should be no issue as you can just restore your backup but until then I would suggest doing the Freeze method. I hope HTC Left the bootloader unlocked, that would be nice for a change. Although knowing AT&T they probably made them Lock it. Also awesome to see that we already got our own spot for our awesome device phone. Looking forward to some good Roms.

Temp Root Guide for Dummies
Hey guys, I just picked up my Vivid today (in love!). I've rooted devices before, but have never used a method like this with ADB. Is there anyone that would be willing to put together a step by step tutorial for dummies on this? Any help would be greatly appreciated!!
if you unlock the bootloader first on htcdev you can keep root, tried it and its a go

If nobody gets around to it before I get my phone in the mail, I'll see if I can put one together. A step-by-step would probably help a lot of people. The rooting method seems a lot like what I used on my Incredible S (actually, easier, since the IncS had a locked bootloader that couldn't be unlocked at htcdev.com!). Unfortunately, I ordered mine online so I could get the discount and get the white version, so I have to wait for them to ship it to me.
I tried to unlock my Vivid at the htcdev site and unfortunately it doesn't seem to work. Maybe we'll have to wait a bit until it's supported.

Love this Phone, I am going to wait for Root
I am having issues getting to Fastboot. Keeps saying win whatever not installed even though I got look in platform-tools and its sitting right there. Hmm I haven't updated in awhile, could that be it? Yea wow I didn't realize how far behind until I started update holy god lol that's what I get for not updating it within the past 3-4 months.

Not sure if others have tried, but I'm getting the dreaded CID not allowed (basically means carrier not allowing it) error...might just have to wait for someone to figure out the exploit to get it unlocked for perm-root
Either that or wait for HTC to come out for an actual Unlock for the device.
CID locked
Same for me. Oh, well.
Standing by...
I can't seem do get it to work, I must be doing something wrong.
I get through all the steps, get the root shell (#), and the ID comes back as 0 (root). That's all good.
I then install Superuser in the Market, but none of the apps I try to use can seem to get root access. They can't find an SU binary. Why would superuser install and run but there be no su binary? Any ideas on what to do?

This little gem of a phone is a tough little thing to custom install apps on, but that didn't stop the Coburn from being able to get busybox installed.
Therefore, introducing Busybox for your HTC Click/Tattoo!
FOLLOW THIS TUTORIAL CAREFULLY. This guide may brick or NOT brick your Tattoo (most likely the latter), however I cannot assure you that it's 100% fail proof. I have installed it successfully. IN OTHER WORDS: THIS IS NOT FOR THE FAINT HEARTED! IF YOU DO NOT KNOW WHAT 'FLASH','ADB' OR 'HACK' MEANS, PLEASE DO NOT CONTINUE.
Requirements:
1 HTC Tattoo (The Victim)
1 MS Windows Powered Computer (I used Win7 64Bit)
1 HTC Tattoo -> USB Cable (Included with phone... Well, it was in the box).
Download the package attached to this post. Extract all files to a directory like C:\BUSYCLICK . (Actually, please extract them there).
Installation
Connect your Tattoo to your phone, make sure USB Debugging is enabled (Settings -> Applications -> Development) and sit back. Windows should say "New Hardware! OMG!" and ask "What is this piece of tech?" (aka New Hardware Install Wizard). On XP, allow to search Windows Update. On Vista/7, I'm going to have to get back to you on that. The installed driver will be like "HTC Dream blah blah blah ADB Interface" or something. Odd why it says it's a HTC Dream...
Anyway, go to the folder where you extracted the files, and run the Installation.bat file. It's the one that says "Installation" With the cogs icon.
You'll get a DOS Prompt and some text, PAY ATTENTION! My installer will hold your hand and explain what's happening. Should any errors occur, you may be out of space on your Tattoo's internal memory or something. If you do get errors, please post them here! I'll try to fix them for you guys and girls.
Post-install tasks
When complete, run the TestBusybox.bat script in the same folder where you extracted the BusyBox files, and you should get some output. If not, busybox failed to install... Let me know what the error is and I'll try to fix it.
Notes:
You can use the busybox commands in /data/local/bin from "adb shell" or a terminal emulator on the phone itself... /data/local/bin/sh DOES NOT work from adb shell, I don't know why. It will work using a terminal emulator. Try "/data/local/bin/free" and such for some memory read outs, etc, etc.
Feel free to love/like/hate/kill/shoot my work, you can expect to see ROMs and the like in the near future as I love hacking devices.
Cheers,
Coburn64
Ok busybox installed normally...
Do i have root acces with busybox now? I dont see su...
C:\Busybox>adb shell /data/local/busybox ls /data
ls: can't open '/data': Permission denied
I do see /data/local and under tho... including ../bin and ../rights but dont see any use of it...
Coburn Hi, this is a step closer to being root
can be root in busybox?
chmod command does?
thx
Code:
benno.id.au/blog/2007/11/14/android-busybox
chmod command is useless without su...If only su worked
Installed and worked fine, can run busybox but:
it runs with shell privileges
setting setuid bit doesn't solve, because I can chown to root
Do I miss something?
Thanks Really appreciate your work!

All this does is allows you to run more commands from the shell in Android, whereas the standard shell doesn't have many commands built-in. Could be used in conjuction with a root hack.
One step more, but nothing to do with root
I'm starting to believe that Click will never have a root method working because its underused compared with other android devices

Busybox just allows you to use more features at the adb shell command line. So, yeah. Heh.
You lost me at 'adb shell command line'. Is that some command line provided by the Android SDK?

Sorry if I lost you. Let me sum it up: It's a 'feature pack' for Android Developers, which could be used in conjunction with rooting tools.

That's the code for the old asroot exploit (used in the Hero IIRC). It's been patched in August/09 so it won't affect the kernel in stock Tattoos.
Yeah, that's what I was getting at - the exploit is too old.
We need to either:
1) Get a S-OFF bootloader
2) Find another working root exploit
3) Dig around in the test ROM and extract the SU binary out of that sucker and put it in /data/local on the working ROM.
I think I can do the latter.
I made this thread in order to discuss possibilities of how to root the latest software for our phone. It's about v20N mainly. Let's try to keep this one clean and root our phone
You can already find a procedure for V20B here: Root V20b

adb push wont work for me at least...

z4root
vipermod
thrill
doomlord all version
androidnerds.net/2011/10/08/lg-esteem-oneclickroot-now-ready/
Gingersnap Root Itility tells me it succeeded, but root still aint present...
adding that ratc exploit
Working so far:
adb install *.apk
According to Redpik: "Superoneclick 2.3.3 was able to copy busybox into /system/tmp but couldn't find the glitch."
Local rooting, since some apps like rootchecker show our phone is rooted
As it seems, Unlockroot also works for some with v20n, maybe even others, if they disable the LGE Modem.
I somehow managed to root it by aproxymately doing this:
Enable debugging mode
Disable LGE Modem
Plug in USB cable
open UnlockRoot
click root
REBOOT and DONE!
Code:
-edited-, cause it didnt work with the method posted before.
Kill adb server
Starting adb server...
Get online devices
Try LGE shell rooting...
push file to device : rootutility
chmod file 755 rootutility
Restarting debug mode...
Waiting for debug mode...
push file to device : busybox
push file to device : su
chmod file 755 busybox
push file to device : Superuser.apk
Rooting, please wait...
Root Succeed!
Root finished!
Noone could reproduce the root till now, but I'll keep on trying.
It somehow worked and I made a nandroid of this. Link below...
How to flash it:
1. unzip the file
2. Take the whole folder and put it on ur SD card under sdcard/clockworkmod/backup/
3. You need a rooted phone where you can access recovery by either using a app like RomManager or by adb shell via: adb reboot recovery (thnx to gabwerkz, since I didnt know)
4. reboot to recovery either via command or APP
5. choose backup and restore
6. choose restore
7. choose the foldername u just put onto ur SD card
alternatively (PRO USERS ONLY)
go till step 5
and then choose whatever you wanna have
Thats it so far. Maybe a MOD can take this thread and moderate it, since I hardly have time (but if possible also gimme right to edit it).
You also will find the solution in this post, as soon as any1 made it

This may be a long shot as I am not sure how the exploits work but...
It seems one issue is with not be able to set read/write to the systems folder.
I have been unable to mount the systems folder as writable. I think this is where the fundamental issues seem to be.

doesn`t work !
@N00BY0815
Please try to summarize in the fist post unsuccessful methods (a short color list would suit), so we don't get spammed here with unnecessary tries.
I got an OTA on Friday night or Saturday morning. Didn't notice any changes.
Next day, I realized I lost root. TiB says root access is denied. SuperUser is still installed, so that's not the problem. It's not even ASKING any more.
I tried running pSouza's one-click root, it failed in the third step. This was using 1.06 off Rootzwiki. I went to PSouza4's website and downloaded 1.07, and tried it again. Same thing.
Strangely my system (about phone) still says 5.5.893 (baseband CDMA_N_03.1c.57R ltdec_u_05.15.01), build number 5.5.1_84_DBN-21 so somehow I never got the 901 update. It stills says I'm on 2.3.4, but the exploit no longer works.
Any ideas?
If superuser is still installed can you go into it and check root status? Does this happen with every root app? Could you have maybe accidently denied TiB at the prompt or set Superuser to automatically deny apps? Try running rootchecker.
https://market.android.com/details?id=com.joeykrim.rootcheck
I went into SuperUser and it says TiB is still allowed. But when I run TiB it says root was denied.
Root Checker confirms: no root.
I tried 43V3R root and that failed too.

First of all download the required file[http://www.mediafire.com/?8b1lt61sg3i6tu5]
You might need to install the USB Drivers for this, you can try by using the Drivers Installation (Located inside the zip file) or you can download Samsung Kies that contains the USB Drivers
You will also need to activate the Debugging on your Device, its easy
Open the setting menu, select the applications and the Development
Activate the USB Debugging and wait for the drivers to be installed
Wait for the drivers to install

did u successfully rooted ur phone with this method????
User seems to like having 2 accounts to thank himself...
Goodbye
So I updated my HTC One to Kit Kat about a week ago thinking that it would make some improvement to my user experience, but so far I don't like it. Things seem a bit glitchy now when they weren't before, especially with things like the GUI. I also don't like some of the changes they made, such as how texts show up on the lockscreen now and the grey battery indicator...and I don't really care much for some of the minor new features.
So I was wondering whether it's at all possible to "reverse" the update to the version just before they released and pushed out the Kit Kat update... I realize that I'll probably have to re-flash the stock rom in order to do so, but I'm willing to do it if at all possible. The phone is completely stock, no root and no modifications whatsoever.
If you root, s-off, and flash an aftermarket recovery you can flash the stock Rom. If you're going to go thru all the trouble to do this I personally would NOT run an ota to become stock again. You can achieve that by flashing a Rom and be 80% or more stock. To get back fully stock you need to find the original ota and run it after doing the other things I listed above. Search here and you'll find out how to do all of these steps.

Thanks for your reply but these steps require you to be s-off and temp root,I have a completely stock 4.4.2 rom with locked bootloader and hboot 1.56.0000.Now I need to temp root,s-off so I can downgrade the rom to an unlockable rom(sim unlock).
I understand it's possible to sim unlock the sprint htc one.
Question is,how can I gain temp root and s-off so I can downgrade to 4.3 and sim unlock the phone, thnx.

well I did try firewater but I always get this "error, run firewater as root. su or FU", after running the last command which is /data/local/tmp/firewater.
Am I doing anything wrong?

... It seems firewater is not getting root permissions. When you run firewater again, never let the screen sleep and grant permission whenever it asks (not sure but can ask multiple times) ...

I'm pretty sure the temp root method does not work on Sprint devices.
I guess the only option for me now is to wait untill a proper root exploit is found.
thank you guys for your support

There has only been 1 exploit in recent years that did not require your bootloader to be unlocked beforehand...so your "proper root exploit" most likely won't happen.

The only way to downgrade is to go through the process of unlocking bootloader, root, s-off, you can do whatever you want from there...

... Brother either we are not able to make you understand or you are not willing to grasp it. The only way to sim unlock is to downgrade, to downgrade you need s-off, for s-off you need root, for root you need custom recovery, for custom recovery you need unlocked bootloader, and all starts from here. I hope this helps you clear any doubts if you still have them ...
