Yes you can do that.
By using Barnacle WiFi tether...
But if your are using FXP ROM and Kernel, you can using it without 3rd party software.
i've tried barnacle, but still not work...
I tried barbacle long time ago.
It only worked with no encryption or with WEP but password had to be only numbers.
No letters in password and no WPA

Those 2 guides show you how to root your phone very very very simple. The youtube is the visual guide and the second one is just reading guide...
Root n install barnacle
Why not just root, open BL, flash custom kernel (nAa-13), flash custom rom (MiniCM7). If I'm not wrong then there is a bug with many roms, when screen turnes off then WiFi tether stops...
Btw easiest way to root is with flashtool..

For me just root and barnacle is not enough. It still doesn't work.
Do I need to change ROM and,or kernel???
I'm actually with stock kernel and ginger dx 028b.

I can't remember but you need to have ip tables if your on stock kernel.

YES, Barnacle works fine with GingerDX v028b BUT only how ADHOC Hotspot (no infrastructure) so you can not connect to it many devices like Kindle Reader, Wii, etc. which don't implement the ad-hoc access...
Actually I'm using my GingerDXv28b+Alf8a+Addons007 with Barnacle to get internett access to my notebook connected in adhoc hotspot to X8 and all works very fine.

No, it doesn work.
Barnacle says it's creating the network but the tablet can't find any network.

I have the doubt can be kernel-related. it's all the morning i'm trying to put Alf kernel instead of the default one, but I cannot succeed that...

definetely solved my problem
I flashed alf kernel and HDPrime rom and everything started working
Now I have a great hotspot.
Unfortunately HDPrime rom is not as good as GingerDX (i.e. brightness control is not working plus something else)...but pretty fast and for the moment I can deal with it.
So thanks everybody for the help, I'll try other rom's in a future hoping to find the "complete" one.
hi everyone..do u know a rom for stock kernel that has a functional tether?
im using gdx28b but it doesnt seem to work..i also tried barnacle tether..and no luck..
or maybe im doing it wrong..

you need custom kernel,as x8's stock kernel doesnt support tether...
yep PDANet is a app...download and install it from market and when u opened it it will ask PDANet for PC to download...download it and install it on pc..then u can tether....
You need to install the ip tables to tether on stock. Search for it.

You can use pdanet for usb tethering. You have to install pdanet client software on yr windows- you can download it from Junefabrics website.. download pdanet app from market and install it on your phone.. don't forget to turn On usb debugging on yr phone.. just connect yr phone to pc using usb cable..

I use usb tethering pretty much everyday. i use Easytether for that. but since today afternoon tethering stopped working. i haven't change anything,internet connection itself works well in the phone. only the tethering stopped working. i tried several other tether apps but still the same thing. anybody have any idea why this happened? should i do a factory reset?
btw im using GDX v29 with alfs 09a. plz help :crying:

Well it turns out only USB tethering doesn't work, works well with bluetooth :/
may be there's a problem with your "easy tether PC client" . . . . or may be a problem in you os. . . . :cyclops::cyclops:
If u have a unlock bootloder then why you not using it's default USB tethering instead of any app...try with it nAa kernel

I tried, doesnt work
I'm having a wifi router at my home but my phone is not stable with that connection.I have a 4X n Laptop which connects to the same connection stably.
my phone when connected to anyother network is stable as i tried in my friends place it was stable.
i dont know why it is unstable at my home
If anyone of u can help me plz with some idea or the only idea i have is to change the router??

Have you tried to change the base band by any chance....this can also be one of the reasons....

Hello guys
My university uses a WEP protected network and I noticed that with the stock 4.xx roms, I can access the network. When on custom CM roms however, only Werewolf kernel (tested v7, v8 and v800b) works with my university's network. Other kernels (stock CM, OPrime/Play, Iodak) cannot connect. Is there a way to add the WEP functionality to these kernels since Werewolf appears to have the ability to do so?

I believe WEP isn't officially supported anymore due to security issues. I'm not aware of any solution unfortunately, so there are three things you can do now:
1. Use the kernel that worked.
2. Downgrade
3. Point out to your school that they need to update their Wi-Fi network.

I am using latest iodak kernel and zaiben rom,
Today I also noticed that my phone dont want to connect to wep network.
Maybe iodak have a solution...

I asked this same question like 5 times in 5 different threads, only werewolf kernel can connect to wep OPEN and none other kernel. But with WEP shared all kernels can connect, and yes it's a KERNEL issue.
