I got bored and was looking through the Vivid build.prop, I noticed a few things that seemed odd.
Amongst them;
It states the preferred data network is wcdma... Is that correct? That just sounds wrong to me. Admittedly I'm not the best with network protocol terminology.
Also it says we have a 1.5ghz dual core... Which is clearly either a remnant setting from the raider Korea, or could it just be underclocked to save battery? I know HTC had done that in the past.
Sent from my HTC Vivid using Tapatalk
for starters, QUESTIONS do not belong in DEVELOPMENT area.....please stop posting questions here.
WCDMA is correct for preferred network. it is like that on all ATT devices
as for the processor, i am pretty sure we just have an underclocked version
Well if we don't post questions here, then we probably need a q&a section....
Plus it's a question about development... As in... Can we fix reception issues AND can we restore our possible 1.5ghz dual core
Sent from my HTC Vivid using Tapatalk
this is NOT an actual development question. it does NOT belong here.
general rule of thumb:
if its a question, post it in general or Q&A (we dont have one yet)
if you created it, post it in Dev forum.....
its that simple.
ok, works for me... thanks.
yeah, the processor is a 1.5ghz. i cant remember which phone is sharing this cpu, but i know it is at 1.5ghz. as soon as i root it, its going to its normal speed. battery will go down faster and it will prolly get hotter faster, but oh well... it will be faster

probably not. htcdev looks at your fastboot and CID. build.prop doesnt contain this info. build.prop is only related to the booted OS. bootloader/fastboot/cid all reside outside of the rom itself
Please post questions in general section until there is a dedicated q&a section. Thanks

Which of these roms will make my old heroc that my gf is currently using quicker to the touch with more battery life. she is currently running aospcm 234.
Seriously how much more aosp can you get.... I used my heroc for a whole year either running cm or something by the dev aosp. now I have jaybob, evervolv, kush deck, etc.... Can someone who has used these roms individually from a non biased standpoint tell me which to use and why? (refrain from fanboy banter)

Depending on the patience level of your girlfriend, you might want to refrain from Jaybob's kernal. The camera is sometimes intermittent.
If she just wants everything to work, you should consider AOSPs froyo, everything is rock solid stable.
I'm currently trying out Deck, I've used all of them and the only quirk that bothers me is sometimes the GPS signal gets lost. I've actually lowered the max cpu settings and it hasn't happened since...but I'm sure it will.

Although I have not yet tried deck, I have tried aosp's , cm7 (not the latest rc, tho), evervolv, and jaybob's. I would say that out out those, jaybob's was the most hassle-free. Just make sure to flash the .29 kernel so to avoid camera issues (which the .35 tends to have ).
Gin & Salsa
Btw, this should be posted in the q&a section.....
Gin & Salsa
I have been on both. Although I used deck longer both Jaybob's and deck were both equally smooth and hassle free. I recently moved to the most recent CM7 release (not nightly) and love it. It's my new daily driver.
Good luck!

Your post in the dev section didn't bother me at all, I just told you it was in the wrong section (as an afterthought...) because there had been quite a bit of hoopla going on lately over that subject (non-dev related posts in the dev section) ... Not so much in the hero c threads, but still. as for getting answered, a lot of knowledgeable people read the q&a section simply because they like helping. You would definitely get answered, maybe not quite as promptly, but definitely.
You can ask a mod to delete the post if you like.
Gin & Salsa
we are here to help thats what xda is for as long as u dont post questions in development your fine if u have a specific question about a rom post it in that roms thread and youll get help alot faster and if it has to do with a bug it helps developers fix the rom to make it better. so please just dont start new threads in development asking questions.

99% of the people in here have tried most ROMs. And on top of all those still here, many of us still check these threads that finally moved on to bigger, better phones.

Cool..cool.. anywho I hear ya on the bigger and badder phones. I'm on evo shift now and love it. When I was on heroc still the best rom imo was aosps froyo. Might very well be still. But gf has heroc now and I want to make sure her phone can keep up with mine. honestly the hero gets better cell service then my shift does. anyways back to the point at hand.. The heroc scene blew back up and I'm excited about it. these deck roms have one hell of a reputation from what I'm gathering. But jaybobs sort of specializing in this phone vs the mass produced roms of kush. I wish I could grab some more opinions from you guys if you have the time.

For your GF, I'd ruu her back to stock unless she's a techie , then let her decide.. if we make a thread inside the dev section for answering questions it would defeat the purpose of THIS q&a section, wouldn't it.......one way to find out which rom is the most popular would be to scan the number of posts in each rom's thread. For instance, look at the amount of activity in the aospcmod gb thread. Easily the most popular rom.

Hey guys, it looks like the HTC Rezound is close to getting S-Off by Evil. If you didn't know, the Rezound has had a locked bootloader all this time just like us. Can we look to how they got root to help with our own efforts. The method of getting S-Off between these two phones can't be that different, can it?

EDIT: Apparently links to his site are prohibited. But just google "s-off think tank" to get to Evil's site.

I'm pretty sure the internals are very very alike too. The only difference I've read is the screen size. They both came out around the same time, so I'd think they'd be locked in a very similar fashion.

Look, I don't like the guy and I think his attitude is terrible and he deserved the ban he got. But can we refrain from saying stuff that isn't true? It does nothing for guiding people to an eventual unlocked rezound (or vivid in this case). Open is supposed to be was android is about... not squelching possible advancements based off a personal problem.

As I appreciate your enthusiasm for moderating me. The statement was made intentionally. As I have had this thread topic in multiple forums and the dev in question prompts flaming from discussion as to why we can't link his site. Most people on here either love or hate the guy, I am cool with him. My statement is made because that's the reasoning behind not linking his site. I can post it when I did or we could wait until it was asked, I chose the pre emptive approach to avoid someone literally saying something negative about the dev and xda. If you have an issue with my statement please address a senior mod or admin.

The only ROM's for this handset are modifications and improvements on sense based roms, there are no other roms available as yet, except maybe the unstable half working ICS port, which looks promising.
Well I saw on another site that they were running coredroid so I was confused so I figured I would ask the experts. Im use to the inspire cuz I just got the vivid so I wasn't really sure. Good idea, I wish there was more of this on XDA.
Perhaps if for each development project there was a dedicated thread for chatter, expressions of thanks, etc people would feel more comfortable using it.
Development threads might not grow to thousands of entries, with almost 0% of the entries actually about development.
I'm new here, post count is very low - but my posting habits won't change when I eventually get to 10 posts - unless I do get around to actually doing some Android development I can't see a reason for posting in the dev area.
I guess though that some dev's may prefer it the way it is, as a sign of recognition, or something...

Honestly you are not missing much imo. GB was so damn efficient I don't see a huge revolutionary change. ICS is very smooth and fast with the help of the developers many to be named I don't want to leave anyone out. But don't feel like you're so far behind bc you are not. Only recently has there been a few more roms to try out.
will s-off make it say easier to get ASOP type roms on to this phone?
Not necessarily, but it will work for all devices (vivid, holiday, velocity) with no porting and wou will be able to flash everything right from your phone, no computer needed.
Sent from my HTC PH39100 using XDA
Having s-off has its advantages. Having being part of the beta I can tell its great.
The best for it is being really for developing New Roms and aosp. Makes a lot less of a hassle to flash New kernels and firmware.
I'm sure we won't have to wait much longer for the beta to be over, its a fairly simple process but they have to make sure its foolproof so we don't have a lot of bricks like we suffered with the ota release that happened.

I think you should start from typing HTC one in forum "find device" box above. And read stocky threads and guides to learn how to root. There are enough info when you search benifits of root. Which covers the question..
