I dont know what ya *****in for

I got bionic on the launch date .. and for some reason i hear all these nerdlings qqing about oh this phone is old hardware and what not. I came from a Nexus One which in my opinion was the dopest android phone ever made besides the touch sensor. The screen on the bionic ****s all over my n1 and in every way its a upgrade. I looked at samsung LED screens before hand and I do enjoy them, but the bionics screen is great imo unless you got the magnifier glass out lmao
am i the only one whos really loving this phone and doesnt really care about the samsung and other phones coming out -__-

Solid yes... What it was chalked up to be .. No. dont get Mr wrong, I love it... BUT your comparing it to a nexus 1. If you had came from a sensation, like myself, you'd understand the let downs a little better. Great phone definitely... Could it have been better, absolutely.

I'm completely happy with Bionic. Samsung has pretty screens but much lower quality materials and design if you ask me. Samsung and Toshiba are both pretty crappy but they know if you put a beautiful screen on it people will overlook all the other areas costs were cut. people should pick a phone and try to live with their choice and enjoy the new toy. The Bionic is a hell of a phone. Quite being babies indecisive with too many choices.

I'm coming from an Original Droid and while I kind of hoped I'd be able to make it until the Prime released, that didn't happen....and I LLLOOOVVVEEE this phone! Now if only they can send an update to fix the network connectivity issues I'll be all set!

I love my bionic, no qestion's asked it works perfect. Have not had any problems with it, i will not give this phone up unless the pohone that replaces the bionic is 50x times better. Way better then my DX2. I perfer the cpu/gpu in the bionic then the nvidia cpu/gpu.
The 4g lte is great very fast. pretty sad my 4g lte is faster then my cable connection.

The only thing this phone is missing is CM7 or CM8 if it comes out.
I enjoy the BLUR but im to accustomed to my nexus one custom ROMs.
I honestly never use my 4g on my bionic only for specific times whe nits needed. I keep my data off completely throughout the day and oh man does the battery ****ing kill it hahah i love this phone so much the speaker/video camera/and all around feel of the phone is superb..truly superb. Samsung might have a nice screen and GPU or w.e but moto dominates with the actual phone feel.

I would almost promise you that if you held them side by side, this wouldn't be your opinion any more. Now, I absolutely love my Bionic and it's the best phone I've used on Verizon(it's worth noting that I've owned nearly every Android smartphone to come to Verizon since the Droid 1) However, a coworker of mine imported a GSII some time ago and I've had ample opportunity to play with it. To me, it remains completely unrivaled by anything I've seen from another manufacturer to date. This is really just my 2 cents.
P.S.:When I say nearly every, I mean literally all but 3 =P I will continue this with the upcoming Rezound, as well. Nothing like having variety with my LTE.

I have tried out nearly every phone out there.
I had money just sitting here, so why not put it to good use.
When it coolness down to phones, I liked 2 the best.
GS2 and the Bionic
The GS2 screen was truley amaizing, but like sanding usually does, they increase there contrast. Pictures no longer feel... realalistic.
The GS2 was lighter. It in a way felt cheaper as well.
The main reason I chose the bionic was it's processor.
Prosesses utilize ram.
The OMAP4 is the only multiple-channel processor which makes ram access better.
Gingerbread doesn't support multiple cores or channels, but ice-cream sandwich will.
I didn't want a phone that would become old technology as soon as the next OS was released.
Not hating the GS2, but single thread benchmarks with a 1.5ghz is not that impressive when the OMAP4 is pretty close at 1ghz and working less than half as hard as the1.5ghz.

I'm coming from an iPhone 3GS (so, admittedly a few years of technology and freedom behind), but this is easily the best phone (smart or otherwise) that I've ever owned, and I had tried a Samsung Infuse 4G briefly a few months prior.
I'm a little apprehensive to see what the Nexus Prime is going to look like, but I just have to keep reminding myself how much joy this phone has brought me. There's always the possibility of something newer and shinier, but I'm increasingly glad that I pulled the trigger when I did. This phone is a beast

I appreciate the light weight and great screens of Samsungs. But Samsung is crappy at ongoing software support/updates, and many of the things that don't get the fancy headlines (e.g., call quality, GPS locks, external speaker volume and sound quality) are inferior due to cramming so much stuff in the light/thin phone.
Both of my Motorolas have been heavier and thicker, and I don't love the Bionic screen, but man it just works well. Instant GPS, great audio and call quality, good reception, better battery life.
Sometimes the supermodel is fun to be out with, but doesn't make a great wife.

Coming off a Pantech Matrix,,,,anything is faster.
Only thing I have to complain about is...the locked bootloader

I've owned both the BB Storm and Storm 2, the HTC Imagio, Moto Droid, HTC D.Inc., Moto Droid X, Samsung Droid Charge, and the Moto Droid X2 before this. While I have to say the display on the Charge was nice, the 800x480 resolution is getting old fast. Hell, the OG Droid was the Android device that changed the smartphone "game" in the US when it was released, and it had a higher resolution screen. But the Charge's screen felt... fake and cartoonish. I wanted something in between the DX and the Charge.
The Bionic's screen isn't something to write home about, but the colors are good IMO, the high resolution is perfect, dual core and a gig of quality RAM, 4G LTE and excellent call quality. Out of all the phones I've owned, including flip phones, Motorola's have always been the best in signal and call quality, period. The worst was the D.Inc., even on EVRC-B it was still crappy. Plus the screen... while it was an AMOLED, it had an older Pentile matrix that makes the Bionic look fantastic.
Overall, I'm glad I waited and was able to get the Bionic. People have too high of an expectation when it comes to smartphones. As long as it does what you want, be happy with it. The Bionic does all of that, plus much more and this is by far the best device I've owned.
Oh... and f*ck Apple.

Mmmaannn i have high expectations for the Bionic because #1 its farking 300$ @launch. I think sgs2 was 129$?
#2: all u guys talking about ur OGdroids, I upgraded from an Omnia from 2-3 years. The only thing for me the Bionic is good for is the performance, internet speed and phone speed, and I like the screen the fact that I can clearly read in sunlight.
I'm new to Android. I only played around with it so maybe I'm not familiar with the OS. about winmo I liked was having a task bar like on your desktop where I can hold right click and actually close or minimize. And I mean actually close, when I goto open the app it loads like new. When I use task killer it tells me it killed the apps but same apps keep reapearing. And for example I would kill the browser and when I reopen the browser it opens where I left off.
Also, I played with some Samsung devices and I really like how I can change brightness, screen rotation wifi gps etc. is that like a touch wiz only thing? So apart from the OS I also need to figure the interface? Is there like a complete stock barebones gb platform I can go to? Is that just getting a nexus?
Honestly I got the phone for the specs because you can always tweak usability but you can't add ram or cpu.
Any APPS or Tweak suggestions is greatly appreciated.
Oh btw on my winmo I never had to buy apps I could dl and install cracked vers. Not that I dont want to support devs im just uuber broke (yea rite rocking a 3oo$ fone) it was a gift smarta's.
And I could load a movie on my sd card and coreplayer would play everything even HD with crz stutter bcuz phone too slow. Android I have to start converting files? Wtf? And I also had wifi tether! Wmwifitouter...
Im on the fence should I trade my phone downgrade and get some cash in my pockets or will the Bionic get better?

Also to add on samsing phone if you hold the home button you get a list of recent apps BUT there's also a button for task manager anyway I can get this on Nothing-but-a-BLUR?

I'm loving the bionic so far, the one thing that's really annoying me doesn't seem to be a big deal to others. I understand the increased resolution but the font is way too small. It's giving me a headache.

you sure hit that one on the head. i have had many phones and i like motorola phones alot. with some tweaks and stuff you can make the bionic a bad a## phone. i love the things you can do with this phone! just amazing!! zumacast is one of my favorite apps ever. despite what others say about the lapdock, i love it.

[Q] How many of you on Bell have the Raider 4G?

I just placed an order yesterday for this new phone.
This will be my first android, giving the iPhone 4 that I currently use to my little sister.
Specs seem decent:
1.2GHz Dual Core
4.5" qHD screen
1GB Ram
8MP 1080p camera
1.3mp front facing camera
LTE Support also with HSPA+
I am really excited to get it, I played around with one at the cell shop here in canada.
I liked it's design over the Samsung Galaxy S II, not sure if I made a mistake ordering this phone though.
Anyone have this or are getting it?
I have no idea how to overclock and/or root (or even what I could do with a rooted phone for that matter lol)

He just answered your concern "not being sure if you made the right decision" between this and SGS2. Most of the stuff posted under Vivid forums about HTC Vivid is ok, that means no problems with the device, therefore you made a good choise. There are many threads opened on this regard, so there's enough opinion for you to read. I've played with both SGS2 and Vivid, and the Vivid was the winner for me even over the Skyrocket.

You haven't made a mistake in ordering it. I had a Captivate and, for a day, the Skyrocket before moving on to the Vivid. A piece of paper is built better than the Skyrocket, or just about any plastic-laden Samsung for that matter. You will not be disappointed. Coming from an iPhone 4, you won't see that much of an improvement going from a Retina screen to the 4.5" qHD one on the Holiday (Vivid/Raider), but the resolution is there and it's very pleasing.
Eventually, true root will be coming to this device. Just for reference, the processor is actually 1.5 GHz but is underclocked to 1.2 for better battery life.

Amazing. Now all I can do is wait for it to be shipped to me.
I've heard good things about it, and some not so good things.
I did (while playing at a bell store) prefer its design over the SGS2.
It was so cool and I hope to eventually root and clock it back to 1.5 ghz.
This will be my first android, and from what it seems, spec wise it blows the iPhone 4 out of the water

I have a chance to buy a new Nexus One. I already have a Motorola Atrix 4G. I had wanted a Nexus One when it first appeared about two years ago. Is it worth buying it now for $180? What do you think guys?

I've had mine since it first came out and through the barrage of phones that have emerged since my purchase, it's been hard to give up. Not a bad deal for an N1 in my opinion.
I'll think about jumping when the quad core phones come out though.

After two years my Nexus One works flawlessly and is one of the best phone I've ever operated and it still have support here. So if you want to give it a try, well then go ahead pal....

Excellent and versatile phone
Biggest flaw--touchscreen and maybe signal strength. Although that may depend on area and/or may be inherent in smartphones.
Reason it is not outdated is that I am now running a VERY stable Ice Cream Sandwich rom. ICS is not on very many phones yet and this granddad of a phone is capable of running it. Must be rooted though to get full benefits of ICS IMHO.

No, for $180 I'd get (after careful selection) MyTouch 4G. Actually I did, but more than 1/2 year ago, and for $250. Nexus doesn't come close in any parameter besides glowing multi-color trackball. And I'm not talking benchmarks, but usability, ROM selection and quality. MT4G has fully functional CM7 and MIUI, just like Nexus, but unlike Nexus it's highly overclockable, has a barrage of latest and fully functional Sense 3.0 and 3.5 ROMs, will most probably receive Sense 4.0 ROM when it gets out, and has ICS in at least as good a state as N1. All that while being approximately the same size, 4 times more powerful GPU and a bit more powerful CPU, front cam, stronger speaker, no power button issues and no screen issues (well, it has other type of issues, ones that make you need to select the specimen carefully).
My honest opinion. I had Nexus One for over a year, and I knew when I drew the line and said that I'd like something else, and by my wife's experience too. She's now perfectly happy with Desire S, MT4G's almost-twin brother.

If you can find one for $150 or less, yes, it's still an amazing phone! This phone hasn't had any issues for me since I bought it and I bought it when it first came out. I've yet to find a phone that runs so smoothly, can handle so many upgrades and has an amazing camera. There's no reason to get rid of this phone yet. The gorilla glass is amazing! I literally have screen cracks throughout my glass and the touch screen still works great and the glass doesn't fall apart.

Doesn't Lag
Touchscreen is so so when playing some games
All in all it's a phone that's still hard to beat.
You put Kang-o-Rama on it with the kgpneok kernel and you won't need to upgrade your phone for a while.
The only worthy update to this phone right now is the Galaxy Nexus but even then, you're sacrificing an awesome camera for a crappy samsung one. (the galaxy nexus and galaxy s have horrid camera's compared to the N1)
If you want a more powerful phone I would say to go with the HTC Amaze. Same specs as the Galaxy S2 but a MUCH better camera (one of the best) although only a 4.3 inch screen compared to the bigger s2 screen but 4.3 should be the limit on cell phone screens anyways.
Also if you plan on modding it, HTC phones are better to Mod than samsung phones.

Had mine for two years and still not swapping for another one.
Running ICS and if CM9 is nearly as good as CM7 i see no point in changing phones.
Besides that it can stand some beating, the N1. I dont know how many times I've dropped mine without inflicting it any damage.

yeah...it's worth buying with all the support you can get here but cranky touchscreen is a pain!

I've had a G1 and N1 best phones in my opinion but you should get a Gnex $180 is too much

I bought the N1 on release day, a great phone. But T-Mobile coverage left a lot to be desired, traveling I was on 2g more often than not.
When I replaced it with a Rezound at Amazon's $.01 black Friday sale, I thought that I would put it up for sale. But I couldn't bring myself to do it, so I've re-purposed it as a media center remote with VOIP.
$180 seems a little steep.

I had mine since it came out, It's great phone except my power bottom died but with CM rom i use trackball to do all the job. I also got NS and now waiting for GN. I think You'll be better off with Galaxy Nexus since it has dual care which will be useful for future apps.

Definitely not. I just got a Sensation for $200, the touch screen problems and the lack of app storage make it an irritating phone to own. I should know since I just replaced it.

Anyone here switch to Vivid from Nitro, or from Nitro to Vivid

I am a new AT&T customer, and got the Nitro based on LTE and that beautiful screen. I have always been an HTC guy, going back to the Touch Pro, so this is my first non-HTC phone.
I like the Nitro, I am not lovin' it. The hardware is awsome, the software, not so much. Battery life is not good at all, and it is laggy, which is a shock for a dual-core phone. LG is claiming ICS will be coming Q2-2012... but I am not hanging my hat on that. The biggest fear is the community support for LG is nothing near what I see for HTC devices.
My 30 days is coming up, and I am wondering if I should switch to Vivid. I am not that intersted in the Skyrocket - my wife got that and I really do not like the screen or the feel, really light and plastic feeling.
I did not play around much with the Vivid, which is something I want to do this week, but I wanted to get some feedback from the XDA community.

Not being biased here but I had the chance to use the Nitro, Vivid, and the GS2 and ended up with the Vivid. Battery life is great, dev support is great, and this being my first HTC phone, I'm loving Sense. It's very smooth and the quality of the built-in apps are much better than any other Android phone I've used. You can tell that HTC spends a good amount of time to make things look professional.
When I used the Nitro it just seemed as if LG wasn't trying very hard. And TouchWiz on Samsung got pretty boring. Plus the build quality of the Vivid makes it feel like you spent a couple hundred dollars on a phone.

Before I bought my Vivid I played around with all 3 phones (Nitro, Vivid, Skyrocket). The LG Nitro seemed laggy just flipping the screens which I thought was weird considering its a store phone. I couldn't imagine what it would be like with apps running in the background. The hardware is VERY impressive so I hope the phone gets more dev support. My main choices came down to the Vivid or the Skyrocket. I thought the Skyrocket was super fast and the Vivid was right behind it. The Skyrocket screen was quite vibrant and looked amazing watching videos on youtube compared to the Vivid. That being said the Vivid OS was just a bit more polished and that sold me. True HTC Sense is a bit bloated but the vivid truly ihas vivid colors. I'm still running stock rom as im waiting for a few more roms to get cleaned up but I love the phone and do not regret my purchase. I bought it the day the bootloader was unlocked. If the Vivid did not have its bootloader unlocked I would have just gotten the Skyrocket since there are roms out for it that improve the stock OS. I hope this helps your decision.

I'm in Los Angeles, and, as far as I know, LTE is not yet official. Thus, this maybe a timing issue. But then again, maybe not--read on.
I had the Nitro. You may balk at this, but the only reason I returned it was because it didn't have an LED. I just like being able to look at the phone and know if there is a message waiting. This is one of the phones I don't carry around all the time, so it's handy. I tried but didn't like the NoLED app.
Now I have the Vivid, and I can swear that it doesn't get as good of a signal as the Nitro. In my office parking lot, I would lose service with the Nitro at basement level 2. With the Vivid, I would lose it at basement level 1 (1 level higher).
I would get LTE in many more places with the Nitro than the Vivid. I used to get Nitro at my home. I never get LTE with the Vivid now. Again, this may be ATT turning LTE off here for now.
I like the Nitro better in almost every other way. I liked the curved glass edges, I liked the screen resolution, I liked how light it is.
I may return the Vivid and wait for the Note.

So has anyone considered switching to HTC One?

What's an HTC One? Never heard of such a device that has the expanding configurable capabilities that the S4 possesses.

Lol. I havent played with it - so I have no idea what the features are on that phone.... I'll have a look this weekend.

Before buying the S4, I gave heavy consideration to the HTC One. I watched videos and reviews from multiple sources.
Overall, these are the reasons why I chose and will continue to stick with the S4:
- Battery Life - Our battery is much better than the HTC One. I compared it to a friend who has the HTC One and he was averaging about 2hr 45 min on screen time on a typical day where I've been getting close to 5hrs screen on time.
- Latest Android Software - I know it probably doesn't make a huge difference, but I really like 4.2. The lock screen widgets come in handy. Being able to check my Falcon Twitter and Gmail without even unlocking the phone is a huge plus.
- It's Samsung - What this means is that our phone will still be receiving firmware upgrades all the way into mid 2015. Not saying that the HTC One won't, but HTC is in real trouble, and if they go out of business, that my make things very complicated for current HTC users. Plus, even afloat, I've heard awful things about timeliness of firmware updates from HTC.
So yeah, I bought the S4 and I'm not looking back.

Nope! I will gladly take a 5" 1080p screen over a 4.7" 1080p screen anyday.
Worrying about pixel density in screens this small is silly, I rather have more useable screen real estate.

Yep. One of my buddies asked me to root his Evo about 6 months ago and I was shocked to have to settle for a Gingerbread ROM. I had thought for sure there would be some stable ICS roms available but every ICS or JB rom had at least one major flaw that my friend wouldn't have been able to live with.
Hell, even my my old LG Optimus V has a stable JB rom.

I love the 90s. Good times.

I had a One for about a week. It's a great phone and a really good attempt by HTC. I still miss a couple things from it but everything already described here outweighs everything it has to offer. I always end up back with Samsung.

Also had the One for a week. It was a seriously great phone. The design of the phone is just gorgeous. Also the weight of it was really nice.
Sense looked and worked great but is not nearly as customizable as tw. And as good as the design and materials seemed, it was not durable or built well in the least. A 2" drop caused some severe corner rash and even a dent. Battery life was excellent but during my first full day with this device, im on track to destroying the htc as far as battery life.
Was def a great attempt and design, but the overall quality of construction and materials is severely lacking. Ill take my new slippery plastic cheap looking s4 over the one all day every day.

Also the screen wasnt totally flush with the body of the phone. And the top and bottom trim was perfect on the right side, and both hella gapped on the left side. Like I said, great design, poor build quality.

^^^ This. Until such time that every manufacturer switches to this unreasonable design thereby forcing me to accept it, I will never purchase a phone (especially at full contract price as I buy most of my devices) that doesn't offer removable battery and expandable memory. I very much dislike having to rely on cloud storage to house the things I want access to at all times.
Having said that, I admit I considered it, because I loved my OG EVO so much (which of course offered both removable batter and expandable storage), until I read a multitude of reviews (mostly positive) but there are some build defects that would absolutely drive my OCD tendencies through the roof, so I opted to stay with the brand I know. Now if they'd just move the power button to the top of the phone I'd be thrilled. lol

I gave this a lot of thought and spent quite a bit of hands on time with both devices before settling with the S4. Every time I think of the HTC One I quickly remind myself of the poor software, camera, ergonomics, and lack of support that HTC provides for their phones. I simply don't trust HTC as a company and the Google S4 helped keep me with Samsung that much more. The minor issues with the S4 will be fixed soon enough and then it won't really be a competition as far as I'm concerned. I'm really curious to how many Ones have been sold compared to the almost 10 million S4s, which came out what, a month after the One. And I actually use the "gimmicky" features of the S4. The other day I was working on my car, hands filthy black, covered in grease and dirt. My dad called instead of missing the call waved my hand over my phone and spoke to him. I don't use these features always but if I'm at work or doing something were I will get dirty I turn them on. I couldn't do that type of stuff on the One. There is also things like the One not supporting quick charge even though it has the same Qualcomm chip? Maybe the metal was getting to hot on charge so they disabled it? Anyway I'm totally content with my S4 and I feel time will just keep reassuring my decision to stick with Samsung. :thumbup:

Nice big screen, lightweight and slim, plus what Shady said, not a chance!

I, like many above, looked very hard at both before pulling the trigger on the S4. I'm coming off a long line of HTC phones, but my wife has had the S3 for about 6 months. I do all the tweaking of the S3, so I use it a fair amount, and had grown to like TW more than Sense. Plus, the S3 always stomped my HTC Evo 4G LTE whenever we'd be looking something up on the internet, downloading something, etc. We'd be doing it side-by-side, and the S3 was better EVERY time, and usually by a large margain. That really planted the bug to move to Samsung for me.
I've never looked back One-wise. I might have a few minutes of doubt early on while learning the phone, but I'd have just returned it and gone back to my Evo, or bought an S3. But I'm just thrilled with the phone at this point. It really works well. I'm out on the lake fishing and pull up a radar map, boom, it's there, every time. On my HTC, very hit or miss on the same lakes. And the daylight pictures are stunning, something I could never say for my HTC's.
Bottom line, the S4 works like I've always wanted a smartphone to work.

After the review on the HTC One spoke about how awful repairing it would be and how opening the device pretty much destroys the phone I decided to pass. The S4s "lack of build quality" makes me laugh as the the HTC One's guts are awful whereas the S4 is well put together and its plastic outer materials are more reliable than the aluminum of the HTC One (denting and scratching). Also, as the others before me the unibody design of the One against the removable storage and battery of the S4...NO BRAINER! The Sprint variant also shipped with SIM card so that was a huge bonus for me (in the military so being out of country won't force me to buy a new cheapo phone). Samsung is also more likely to get updates and those updates last longer than HTCs. With a Google version on the way I am stoked as it could very well mean we will get some devs to port some of that amazingness over to the branded variants. Also, I did come from HTC Evo 3D in case you think I'm just another Samsung fan-boy.

Yes.
I rooted my EVO 3 years ago in 2-3 carefully researched hours.
I'm into 2 days across macs Linux and windows exploits. Samsung: I'm not very good but if I can't get root this weekend, back it goes!
