I'm sure we're all well aware of the problem of missing apps that are installed on the "media area" which is the internal SD card. The problem is most likely that it doesn't mount in time on boot up.
My question is, is there any way to tell Market to install apps to internal phone storage? Right now, every time I install an app from the market, I have to go into the app management and Move to Phone on every single app. Very annoying.
I'm pretty sure that any custom rom supports this. I'm running eclipse and have the option to just install to internal memory. I highly recommend eclipse I've tried all the roms and this seems to be the best so far.

I am using the newest cos 2.3.4 and I noticed when I move apps to the sdext 4 it dosnt change the internal storafe amount. But if I put them to just the sd it does show a change. Is there something wrong with my ext or is it just not showing right. Also what is the correct way to use the ext4 e.g. what apps to put there and wich ones to put on regular sd? Sorry I am a noob with the sd partitions.

Did u wipe before installing the Rom?
Did u follow these instructions as quoted from the OP of the COS-DS ROM?:
"DO NOT USE A2SDext scripts with this ROM , before playing around with your applications, enable move apps from COS settings, and choose SD-ext as defult in Settings/Applications. You can and should move apks from sd-ext to phone as you like (seams apps set on sd-ext also will set the dex there!)"
And concerning which apps to put on ext, and which to not, you can install all apps on your ext4, except ones that must run on internal memory, like phone, messaging, camera, etc.
Thanks for the reply. Yes I followed the guide to a "t"
It shows that I am using some space when I check the system storage but when I check where the apps are installed it only shows one on the sd. Maybe its just a glitch that don't show them in the manage apps screen. Either way gotta say I am pleased with the performance of the rom. One more question if you don't mind, why can't I download any of these through rom manager? Its always either corupted zip or download failed. But the cm roms download fine, any guesses?

Yea, roalex has done some amazing work.
That, I do not know. Maybe the mirror is not working, who knows, you should ask roalex. I just download all the builds on my computer and transfer them to my sd.

Note: This is a long one, theres a tl;dr at the bottom of the page.
So, yesterday I bought the XDA Premium app from the market. I installed it, used it for a few hours, rebooted my phone, tried to open it back up, "Failed to load activity" error or something along those lines.
So then I looked it up on the market, it wasn't recognizing that it was installed, so I reinstalled it again. Used for a few hours. Rebooted my phone, same issue. This has happened a few times.
So I figured maybe some data was corrupt. So I installed it from the market, uninstalled it, tried to reinstall it again and it said not enough storage space on my phone. I looked and I have 2.77GB free space on internal storage.
So I figured I'd move some apps to the SD card anyways. Started moving all apps from my phone to SD using the App2SD app (Which I think just redirects to the application's page in settings). Everything seemed to work fine.
Rebooted my phone, and some icons on my screens in LauncherPro didn't load. Tried opening several of them.. all of them "failed to load activity". I'm talking about at least a dozen different programs here that had somehow gotten corrupted? Rebooted again, they didn't come back. Reinstalled a few of them and rebooted and one still wouldn't open.
So I'm restoring from a CWM backup I did just before I went to bed last night. Any opinions on what might have gone wrong or what I could do differently? Is 2.77gb reserved space for texts/cache/etc or was the "not enough storage" error incorrect?
tl;dr: xda premium was corrupting/wouldn't install because I *only* had 2.77gb free internal storage? Tried moving things with app2sd and many, but not all, corrupted after a reboot. Rebooted a second time, didn't solve any issues.
Don't use apps2sd with this phone. Go to settings, applications, media area, click on everything with a check mark, move to phone. This will solve your problem.

So, as I mentioned above, I performed a recovery using an image I had created in CWM late last night.
Just for kicks I tried moving a single app to SD to see what happens.. Google+ went from 28mb on internal memory, to 8mb on SD. Restarted, it was corrupted and not even showing up in application list.
So whats the deal with our phones? They can't move anything to SD card without corrupting? Hopefully this is patched as I appear to be hitting the artificial 2.77gb cap on apps?
So.. my experiment with JUST moving Google+ to SD failed more miserably than I originally thought. Not only did G+ corrupt as I mentioned above, but my phone also started freezing again and VNC Viewer also corrupted itself.
So I had to perform a second recovery on my phone this morning. Ugh. Having way too many issues with this phone considering I only bought it maybe 2 weeks ago.
One more update.. hope someone can help me with this.
So I performed a recovery with CWM. Since then I have not done ANY App2SD attempts or anything. This is a recovery from before I ever did any of that.
Now, whenever I uninstall any app, when I reboot my phone several apps will corrupt. These are apps that I had used App2SD on before I had done the recovery. Its like, when I uninstall an app it finds some data from prior to the recovery and that corrupts the app...
Any way to fix this? I looked at my SD card and the only data on there is Titanium Backup data, CWM backup data, and a few zip files that I had put on there. I told ES File Manager to show hidden files and there is nothing on my SD that I see that could be making Android corrupt these files...
Any help would be greatly appreciated.. I'm starting to thing I'm going to have to do a fastboot recovery to completely stock and start over again..
If you restored a recovery, wasn't that recovery with apps2sd as well? Does that make sense?

Here, I'll lay it out a bit more clearly:
1) Midnight last night I performed a backup with CWM. Everything was working fine, I hadn't done any changes or App2SD things yet.
2) Woke up at 10AM today and this was when all of the issues covered in this thread started. After 10AM today was when I first attempted to use App2SD Pro to move apps around.
3) I recovered using the recovery from part 1 of this message
4) I'm still having issues with programs corrupting even though I'm using an image from Midnight yesterday.
How can I completely wipe my phone then restore with Fastboot? Wipe SD, internal, everything.

So it appears I fixed my problem.. even though I have run two complete restores using a backup from prior to my issues, some apps were still set to go on my SD card. So I guess a CWM backup doesn't store all file system data.

Also some apps try to load on SD card watch out amazon apps. I've put 300plus sized various apps on my phone and didn't crack 2gb. And really 200apps or more your not going to have time for them.

Yea, the XDA Developers app tries to load on the SD card by default. That was the entire root problem that caused all the above posts...
Hopefully Motorola fixes this SD card issue in the next patch.
I want to start fresh and wipe my sdcard that was in the revo I had. I can just do a standard format on the computer for it right and it work fine in the phone?
Also, is there a way to prevent apps from installing on the actual phone? I want all my things on the sdcard instead of on the actual phone.
not that i know of there is a app to sd to card app and i think there are options in the manage app menu and i think there is a force to sd app that requires root if i am not mistaking..
If your going to do that, why not just use the card that came with the bionic?

hi guys, my problem is that, my application stays every after install of new rom..
ive tested almost all roms for stock kernel, so i can say i already know the basics(e.g factory wipe, reset etc...)
i tested it with different roms...and still there...
i used flashtool, rooted again...and when i installed a new rom, the apps are still there...
and my phone's internal memory is always 208mb...even if it's a new rom, still 208mb...
i already tried a hundred times of full wiping/factory reset...
i also tried the factory reset in settings...
this annoys me coz some of the settings also stay...
any idea guys?
What do you mean by "stay"? You've installed an application, then after every fresh install of any ROM it's still installed? What app?
From your explanation it's impossible to have user-installed application to stay still, because data partition is wiped if you install stock ROM from flashtool.
I think it's cuz you moved that app to sd card

yes it's still there...i also find it impossible...that is why im shocked...and its not just an icon...its a real app because i can use it...
i dont put my apps on sd card...when i go to manage applications, the app is installed on the phone memory...
and one thing, it always displays 208mb on my phone memory whatever ROM i install...gdx,gingerxperia, foryopro....isn't it weird?
That's messed up

whipe your SD card :/
yes it's messed up up...:/
It would be very useful, if you give us the name of that application
If you've moved the applications to SD card then ye have to move them back to The internal memory then do a factory reset .. or a full wipe ..
Good luck

Well try to use Titanium Backup to force uninstall that app.
ok guys here it is...i think i found the culprit...but still i don't know why it's happening...
the culprit is link2sd...
i managed to format my sd card including the sd-ext, and then i installed a fresh ROM....the problem is gone...i intalled some apps like root browser, link2sd, battery widget monitor etc...now after setting up link2sd, a lot of things force closes, almost everything that i open e.g settings, camera, gallery, ALL!....reboot is the solution....
now when i turn it on, it seems like(seems like), some of the data in the internal memory is AUTOMATICALLY LINKED to sd-ext...that's AUTOMATICALLY without doing the transfer on the link2sd...that is why i get 208mb of free memory because when i install a new rom, it automatically links it to sd-ext...
now if i install a new rom, the things that were linked to the sd-ext stays...that is why it shows up....
now could this be a link2sd problem?anyone having this problem?
is it because my SD-CARD is problematic?
hew...thanks guys
Hi,
I want to install a minimalist ROM on my nexus one because with cm 7.1 I cannot install that many applications due to memory full error. I am moving most of the apps to SD card but I still get error messages about no space to install apps.
I am wondering if there exist a minimalist ROM that leave for more space for user apps? The other question is, maybe I partitioned the cell phone storage badly and it is showing these errors, is there any way to check the partitions and how much free space each one has?
Thanks.
My advice would be to first go to market and DL an app called S2E. Open t up and give root access. Then check off 4 of the 5 boxes you see. Leave the 3rd one unchecked. Then press menu key and select reboot device. It takes a while to reboot but just be patient. I mean it could be like 10 minutes. This is exactly what I did. Of course you do have to have an external SD inserted. Ever since I did this I'm all good. Non issues AT all

And you need an SD card partitioned so that it has EXT as well as the FAT partition. Look around at things like m2sd as well.
Basically you want to make the system think that the /data area is mounted on the SD card and not internal storage.
Thank you for the replies. I just got some 110 megabytes in my phone without installing another ROM
