Hi ive tried searching thru google I know that definitely the su660 has official LG firmware that allows it to play 4.1 High Profile MKV.
My question is did LG ever release a firmware with the same ability to play Hi Profile 4.1 Mkv for the Optimus 2x p990 and which firmware is it?
Id like to stay with stock firmware before i try custom roms.
Even diceplayer has a condition on its app page that HW acceleration will depend on the firmware so Please point me to the right stock firmware as most of my mkvs are HP 4.1.
And my low power pc is not strong enough for re-encoding.
This is my first android phone so please be nice i really tried searching thru all the forums before posting this question.
this forum post gave me some hope but the question hasnt been answered till now.
I just need 720p HP 4.1
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1076867
The playback for 720p HP H.264 is still crappy and laggy because of the Tegra 2 not supporting that profile in h/w decoding. I don't know if there exists any firmware, that can smoothly playback those files. The only thing that could perhaps speed up playback is overclocking the cpu.
Youtube videos in 720p, that can be played within the browser are extremely laggy.
720p can only be played on base profile not high profile4.1

As said above, you might want to try MX Video Player that has codecs specifically designed for tegra2, still it will be software decoding but with oc you can still play them in 720p.
not only mx video player, but mobo player has also additional codec

Hello,
I have LG P990 with stock froyo.
When I play a xvid video (not HD), the video is smooth and the sound is ok but there is a constant 1 sec desynchrnisation. There is the same issue with RockLite player in hardware decoding mode, but in software decoding mode, the video is fine !!
How to solve this?
MIUI+Celebration+HD+2.0.5+DE-EN+iphone+Beta+2+signed
I have MIUI+Celebration HD+2.0.5 on my LG Speed and yes it´s a better version of Miui. Even better Galnet´s MIUI, and i can send the web link too those who wanna it.
What is the relation between your answer and my question? And for most people the leaked v20e or topogigi rom is the best choice.
No problem here, I converted a 1080p mkv song to xvid and it played perfectly without any audio delay. Try playing the file with Mxvideo player, thats the best media player for me.
I use Mx player too ! For all videos, I can always play them with either Hw or software mode.
Are you on stock or a custom rom. If on stock update it to the latest version.
hi all
i have got an iphone 4 from a friend , and my old lg optimus 2x has been in drawer for several month.
my setup plan:
twonkyMedia server running on my Qnap TS-109 NAS ( running successfully but not supporting transcoding on the fly )
connect lg optimus 2x to a sony 40' LCD TV via hdmi cable ( an old model doesn't support DLNA , not an internet tv) , and use it as a DLNA renderer.
use iphone as a DLNA control point ( remote control for the optimus 2x, haven't decided which app to buy , maybe plugplayer)
so in the end , lg optimus 2x works as a media player , always connected to tv, and iphone as a remote control. qnap nas box as DLNA / UPNP server
But here comes the problem:
initially i was on cyanogenmod 7.1 final, i tried connecting the phone to tv via hdmi cable, there is no image , only sound. ok after searching i found that hdmi output has not been implemented in cyanogen roms.
then i found that new GB stock rom is supposed to support mkv container, then i flashed to this rom on xda
[ROM] 1 Nov V20l: Stock Gingerbread for ClockworkMod (rooted / rooted+deodex)
since i was on cyanogen , i also managed to convert from ext4 to ext 3, after flashing, i was back on stock rom , and hdmi ouput is back, video and sound are both working fine. i installed bubble upnp app from android market and i can see my twonky server and play video files. but most of my movies are 720p mkv, the stock video player doesn't support these containers, ( why ? i read somewhere that the stock player is the only player support mkv hardware accelerated playback ) , ok then i tried various video players on android market, dice player , mobo player etc ... both lagging. the most promising one is mx video player (they say they support tegra2 optimized hw acceleration ) , but if i turn on hw acceleration , it says hw mode is not supported on my file ( i tried several 720p mkv, both the same error ) however , sw fast mode works but video stutters and audio is out of sync, at last i tried flashing a oc kernel HorsePower rc 10 to oc to 1500MHz, it plays smoother, but still stutters a little bit and audio still out of sync.
searching on the forum reveals that Korean v10s rom already support 4.1 hp mk hw playback, why my v20l doesn't support it ?
then i found on xda forum
[ROM] 18/Nov Gr5 V20l: MoDaCo Custom ROM for the LG Optimus 2X
some reply in the hread shows this rom support 720p mkv, i went to modaco forum, but found no clue whether it support it or not. haven't tried this rom, maybe tonight.
so after such a long trip. is it possible to play 4.1 hp 720p mkv on lg optimus 2x without flashing to Korean rom ?
am i doing anything wrong ? i mean latest GB stock rom should already support 720p mkv right ? but on my v20l, it says unsupported file if i play it with stock player.
edit: i know products like playon!hd mini 2 is the recommeded solution but i want to get best use of what i have now.
h264 with l4.1 videos are only partially supported by the hw decoder.
Most tv-series I have tried on the o2x have worked (high bitrate ones tend to have some minor stuttering, and the web-dl versions of big bang theory crash the video-decoder after about 1 minute of otherwise flawless playback).
With movies however many things simply refuse to play (while others work), this is probably due to that the video decoder in the tegra2 chip is not fully l4.1 compliant, I have not really found any info on what it's exact limits are though.
edit: this is with v20L
i have a downloaded 45min 1.9g hp 4.1 mkv for testing.
yesterday i converted it with handbrake to mp4 with default settings. it turns out a 900mb mp4 with aac audio. it plays fine on mx video player with hardware acceleration enabled.
on my i5 2300 8g windows 7 machine, it took about 22min to convert.
is it supposed to be faster ? without re-transcoding the video, only the audio from ac3 to aac ? or did i use the wrong settings for handbrake ( i doubt ) , the file size is drastically smaller after conversion .
found a cool app which will fulfill my dream.
http://www.arkmc.com/featuresupnpdlnaarkmc.html
found another cool app named CifsManager, which will access my NAS with NFS which is supposed to be faster.
also found an app named DroidMote, but i'll install vnc server on my phone intead as a free solution, and remote control it from iphone.
considering buying a real stream player ... such as Xtreamer or himedia
Guys, i have a problem with my i9001.
My phone is rooted and i installed the gpu "new" drivers from the development page. I have upgraded from 2.3.3 that comes default when i buy it to 2.3.5 through KIES, not through ODIN, so it's with vodafone ****s or whatever.
Anyway, the problem is the following:
I want to watch some mkv .720p tv shows on it (like dexter, supernatural, etc) and i tried with a couple of players but every single player will decode the mkv in "SW mode" not hardware, so it won't play properly and it will lag. I tried with bsplayer, mx video player, mobo player pro and even DICEPLAYER (the full version).
So, any ways of playing 720p smooth ? i guess it's because of Adreno 205 which is weaker than Galaxy S gpu.
Come on, 130 views and no replies? sorry for double posting.
Oh, and i didn't installed any "speed" scripts like adrenaline shot or whatever.
Fact is i just bought the phone and i don't want to lose my warranty already. Do i lose it when i install adrenaline shot for instance ?
Update: My actual ROM is I9001BUKP2, which is Vodafone branded and my phone is simlocked (most likely).
Can this be the problem ?
Update 2: Very weird thing happened. I put an episode from The Walking Dead, 350 mb .avi to run with MX Video Player and surprise, even .avi LAGS in hardware decoder, but i'm lucky that MX Video Player got S/W Decoder FAST and it played almost smoothly (95%, still little fps drops).
After that, i tried with an episode of Grimm, this time 720p, .mkv but WEB-DL (even more better than normal 720p releases of groups like IMMERSE, CTU, etc) and the HARDWARE DECODER went AVAILABLE this time, but it lags terribly. I tried with S/W Decoder FAST and lol, it worked almost smoothly.
So, what the hell is the problem ?
Could it be my I9001BUKP2 firmware ? it's official, updated with KIES, i guess it's the same as this one on XDA.
bumpy ^^ ........
still bump .... come on :|
Update: I am now with XXKPS 2.3.6, still the same problems. MKV 720p are laggy, and every single .avi movie is laggy in hardware decoder as well. only softare decoder can decode avi movies to be smooth, but 720p still be laggy.
hey guys .. i curently have feamod v.1.3 based on CWM 5 0 2 7 .... what change if i flash 1.4 ? i use cranium RC7 update 1 with kernel v6 cranium 1900 ghz
but i wanna flash broodrom RC2 final but i don'w know what kernel to use... is v6 1900 cranium ok wit broodrom ?
Well then, how about re-encoding your movies using e.g. xmedia recode or SUPER or whatever? Choose a lower resolution. That's a phone, don't expect it to play HD content - on the small screen that does not make any sense at all.
Well, for others it works perfectly, only i seem to have problems. And anyway, samsung is reporting that this phone can run 720p movies without a problem.
@arialth, GET THE **** OUT.

same issue here, i tried a 720p movie on my i9001 and it used SW decoding in mx player.
I noticed one thing though, after installing mx, it didnt ask for any codec to be installed, i expected it to ask me to install the ARM7 codec??
Same problem here, the moment you want to watch a 720p mkv video you can't use HW decoder.
I am using 0.1.0 cm10 ROM from Ivendor with 3.0 Kernel.
Use VLC, it supports hardware decoding of all media formats.

Already tried that, I've done some search around and I think it just can't handle a 720p mkv.
Bear in mind that the I9001 has a better CPU but a worser GPU, so it's possible the I9000 is able to handle 720p mkv better.

Also, Samsung does indeed report that the device can run 720p movies in mp4 or whatever format.
Seeing as they're own video player doesn't have a mkv codec it is possible there just isnt mkv hardware support.
Hi,
I am trying to find out following:
I would like to use Galaxy Tab 8.9 (7300/stock HoneyComb 3.1) to play video on my HDTV (Full HD via HDMI adapter). However almost all the apps that I have tested seem to produce dropped frames or problems with sync with audio/video during playback for number of mkv/mp4/avi media files I have tested. I was able to play normally some of the full HD videos but that was in only few cases while most of 720p/1080p would have poor playback. So I am looking for an advice:
1) Will updating to ICS (now only custom roms available) help with video playback?
2) Are there any apps that you found that can play most of full hd videos? I have tried almost all the popular ones but could not get to cover full HD?
3) Will overclocking help with decoding? I saw several posts that indicate that some custom roms support overclocking. In some cases I got SW based playback to give almost good playback (HW based decoding did not work in all cases).
4) What is proper approach for mounting external drives that are in formats such as NTFS/exFAT? I am looking at this as some files might be bigger then 4GB limit of FAT32.
5) Is there a device that I can stream to 1080p from Galaxy Tab 8.9? Of course assuming that Galaxy Tab 8.9 can stream 1080p...
6) Do you have any other advice?
7) There are number of custom ROMs available (as listed in http://forum.xda-developers.com/forumdisplay.php?f=1441). Which one would you recommend for best video performance?
Kind regards,
Bo
Just got a Tab 8.9 and really struggling with this as well so keen to hear responses.
1) Will updating to ICS (now only custom roms available) help with video playback?
The GTab8.9 is Tegra 2 powered and will always struggle with HD playback, regardless of ROM or player. Good video player apps, I like MXPlayer, can mitigate it a little.
2) Are there any apps that you found that can play most of full hd videos? I have tried almost all the popular ones but could not get to cover full HD?
I like MX Player, but Vplayer is solid, but costs money. You will not find one that can play all 720p videos smoothly, and forget about an 1080p videos. Unless the bitrate is so low as to basically be low def, it won't happen.
3) Will overclocking help with decoding? I saw several posts that indicate that some custom roms support overclocking. In some cases I got SW based playback to give almost good playback (HW based decoding did not work in all cases).
Maybe a little, not worth it IMO.
4) What is proper approach for mounting external drives that are in formats such as NTFS/exFAT? I am looking at this as some files might be bigger then 4GB limit of FAT32.
I'm not sure on this, I will defer to others.
5) Is there a device that I can stream to 1080p from Galaxy Tab 8.9? Of course assuming that Galaxy Tab 8.9 can stream 1080p...
The GTab8.9 will struggle to play most 720p, forget about any 1080p.
6) Do you have any other advice?
I like the GTab 8.9 for its size, but a media power house it is not. If you want to play all manner of HD videos, then you're going to need a tablet with a Tegra 3 or better. Perhaps the upcoming Kindle Fire HD 8.9 or Nook+ HD 9, with their OMAP4470/SGX544s, will handle better and keep the smaller size.
7) There are number of custom ROMs available (as listed in http://forum.xda-developers.com/forumdisplay.php?f=1441). Which one would you recommend for best video performance?
I have not tried any custom roms myself yet. The video playback is a hardware limitation and a known weak point of the Tegra 2 SoC. Roms and players can attempt to mitigate it, but its not possible to resolve it.

The BS player gave me the best playback but not always smooth on 720p. Thanks for the info.... Great news....
2) In MX Player, turn on H/W+ mode in Settings>Decoding. This plays back 720p video (with a tiny audio lag) on stock Honeycomb 3.2. It's not going to do much to help you with 1080p though -- it's probable that nothing will.
you can run 720p or 1080p fluid.. spawndk from the eepad transformer forum:
"The Tegra2 chipset are designed as a mobile sollution chipset - to support web 2 standards. The highest encoding profile used here (Youtube 1080p) are 1080p baseline and this the Tegra2 chipset will both record and play with no troubles. As well as 720p baseline and main profile - but only upto L3.1 with some limitations. It doesnt matter which container is used (mkv, mp4, m4v, avi etc) and it doesnt matter if resolution are 1080p - its only a matter of the encoding profile used to encode the supported video format H264
Tegra2 will NEVER be able to decode High profile L4.1 encodes - it's not a software issue, neither in terms of Honeycomb or Nvidia libs, its simply a limitation of the abilities of the hardwaredecoder in the Tegra2 chipset and this will never change. It is also not a limitation in the Transformer specifically, but a limitation in ALL Tegra2 based tablets and mobilephones.
This is the same reason why some mediaplayers like the Boxee Box that was originally intended to use the Tegra2 moved on to an Intel chipset before launch.
In short the Tegra2 chipset will support playback of videos encoded in 1080p or 720p resolution, using the H264 video codec and AAC audio codec - as long as the video are encoded after the baseline profile standard
It will not now or ever - play 1080p/720p encodes encoded after the high profile standard."
So basically, you have to reencode videos just like on ipad..
Hello everyone,
I'm new here, I don't know nothing about what you are all talking about here ^^ BUT a friend told me that the new update allow the O2X to play MKV files > Is that true ? He told me trough an email.
I happy with the version I have right now and if it supports mkv with the new update, I will definitely install it.
Thanks for reading me.
I think we could always do it with certain programmes because the mobile can process it. But according to wikipedia, 4.0 reproduces mkv natively so yes, it should.

Hi friend,
Yes the latest V30a ICS update allows MKV format to play on native video player app. Also flv video format is also supported by the native video player.Checked on my O2x.Just that 1080pi full HD videos are not supported yet.So have fun watching vids or movies without the inconvenience of converting

:good: for the flv, my friend didn't know that
The O2X has been able to play MKV's since Gingerbread...but only to a low profile level. MKV's downloaded (tv shows etc) are all 720p HIGH Profile and the phone could not support that as the Tegra chip couldnt handle the HIGH profile.
Are you saying that our phones can now play 720p HIGH profile MKV's...because, if it can, I may actually update!

Friend,
As you said that O2x was able to play MKV video format since GB but in a low profile level. But after the O2x was updated to latest V30a ICS upgrade the native video player app is supporting more formats and can play 720p high profile MKV video formats.I tried to play 720p BRRIP x264 dual audio.mkv movie and it played smoothly, without any audio delay as experienced in GB.Only problem that i faced with native video player was that i was unable to select the preferred audio language in dual audio mkv file as there is no option to select audio language.Other wise native video player is superb:good:.
Thread moved. Please post all question threads here in Q&A in future where they belong.
Thanks

that is great to know. love mkv.
L3.1 can be called High profile yet and O2x can handle it with 720p. sometimes i find some video that physicaly gets over phone posibilities. its played with HW decoder and its not very smooth.
if you want to made 1080p videos, use handbrake and set the settings with tegra decoding possibility manual. But i dont know if something changed with ICS, but i was not able mount SD card with other FS than fat32 and there is not posible to have file with more size than 4GB and its not enough for 1080p movie in low profile

You attached thumbnail indicates that what you were sucessfully watching was indeed an MKV file (a 720p rip) but it does not indicate the profile of the file.
Most downloaded high definition MKV video files, especially tv shows, are MKV files (at 720p) encoded to HIGH profile level 4.0 or above. In Gingerbread these files would not play unless they were converted to mp4 at a lower profile than HIGH (I used BASELINE). This is a limitation of the Tegra 2 chipset in the phone.
Your Cloverfield file is an MKV, but I strongly suspect that the profile of the file is lower than HIGH (the file size is too small for a high definition, HIGH profile encoded movie with that runtime)
Sadly, im still not convinced the phone will play an MKV high definition file encoded at HIGH Profile 4.0 or above. And I dont intend to risk upgrading to ICS (with all the problems that could bring) to find out.
However, I would love to be proved wrong....
