[Q] Ideas for my old tilt - Tilt, TyTN II, MDA Vario III General

What I have: AT&T Tilt
What I would like to be able to do.
Stream music/video via wifi to the phone. I have this figured out.
Stream camera video over wifi, like a webcam.
Connect to my laptop and use the phones gps for the laptop.
Turn off the phone part all together since it doesnt have a sim card.
Remotely control my pc over wifi.
ssh into linux. I have this figured out also. currently use pocket putty (i think its called)
What i am willing to do is pretty much anything that wont brick the phone, basically I want to use it around my house to do all of these things instead of carrying my main phone with me to listen to music and such.
I had thought about putting android on it but i am reading conflicting stories about the camera not working. Is this still the case?
I just need a point in the right direction at the moment. Also if someone has other ideas for the use of the phone that would be great.
I do apologize if this has been covered before, but ive read most of the tilt/kaiser forums and there is just so much information to sift through, some of it so out of date (the phone is so old now) I dont know whats around anymore.
Anyways thanks in advance for any information you send.
Jason

really noone knows if this is possible and how by now?

Bluetooth GPRS

I have a Unlocked Wing with no service provider. I pretty much use it to go on the net and read emails via wifi. I also have a samsung t509 with tmobile and tzones. I have been trying to get my wing to use my samsungs GPRS via bluetooth so I can check my emails with out being at a wifi access point, but I have had no luck with this. I have tried just about everything. Any tips? The reason I dont just use the wing is because I work 80-120 ft in the air and I dont want to bring a phone that expensive up there (If anyone was wondering). Any help would be much appreciated.

Well you can always get a cell phone chain and connect it to the bottom left corner.
That works but the weather still kills phones (Rain, Snow...). Thanks for pointing out the obvious and not helping with a solution though!

Help With Audio Issue And Make $20

Ok well after getting some feedback here and searching this entire afternoon I can't seem to find a way that I can plan non DRM protected acc files that I have copied off my iPod.
Well I can play them, but none of the artisit, album or song title info is pulled.
I have a ton of CDs and really don't want to have to rip them again, it would be easier and faster just to pull them off my iPod and move them to my SD Card.
I will offer $20, paid via PayPal to the person who can come up with the easiest solution. If you can't do paypal I will mail out $20 CAD, it will just take a little longer.
A huge part of my mobile use is playing music, so if I can't find a solution this s730 is going back so I'm hoping someone can help
No other smartphone will solve this issue, the only option open for music use that would be the most simple is get an iPhone, if you can live with all of its restrictions and on screen keyboard it might be the option for you?
I didn't even think of the file format when I switched to the HTC.
I copied the songs from my ipod onto the SD card, then the media player on my blackberry pearl automatically read all the tags and pulled all the info.
I also had a program on the pearl called flipside that would have all the album info as well.
I just assumed it would me as easy on WM6, which was my mistake.
Maybe I'll just upgrade to the wifi curve
I tried installing a program called iPlay that is suppose to solve the tagged acc issue, but when I did it said on my device that this program could not be used on it
Hmm blackberry's are a little different from regular phones, they might have worked more with apple to make them work better, but with a codec on the phone I am a little surprised its not pulling the info if everything worked fine on the blackberry.
Well I'm still searching online for a program so I'll keep people posted if I find anything that works.
I like everything else about the s730, so I may end up ripping over 100 CDs....again LOL

If you find something post it up, ripping sucks but if you rip to mp3 instead of iTunes it should work out easier and be more versitile in player options. Organizing and ripping sucks, I have 130 gigs worth of music..

I will for sure.
When I orginally ripped my cd collection it was a few years ago and I never even though I would need a different format down the road so I just went with the the presetting
If all else fails I think I've found someone who will trade for a wifi curve.
I just hope the new BB os can work with sd cards higher than 6gb
Well I've decided to go back to BB so the $20 offer is off the table
The closest I could find to solving the acc issue is a program call Phantasm www.40th.com
I read a thread on here where the reviews were very mixed. According to the tech support it should do everything I needed too, but I couldn't get the demo working. They were very good at helping me, but I decided to switch from WM6 so I didn't bother getting it working.
It's a bit weird to get the demo, you have to install them email them the codes you get and they send you a code to get the demo running.
I can't recommend but it may be worth a shot

Bluetooth Questions/Issues

Considering the G1 doesn't have a standard 2.5 or 3.5mm jack for line out, stereo bluetooth was the only other option. who wants to use a retarded adapter on your headset??
Is there any way to add support for this later? It has to be a software fix, as WM didn't have Stereo Bluetooth until WM6. Any ideas?
You're about a month late discovering this one
I've heard that the Google devs are working on a new bluetooth stack that may support A2DP. I've been poring over so many forums lately, I couldn't begin to tell you exactly where. But even review sites say "...bluetooth (A2DP to come later)." When is anybody's guess.
"supposedly" there will be an update the same day it releases to add in A2DP support...
yeah ive heard of 2 updates after release or on release one major and the other not......but again who knows

I hope the other update is video recording...
Oh well, this is STILL the best device T-Mobile has released since the HTC Wizard (aka T-Mobile MDA). And maybe add Outlook support w/ Activesync and Exchange. Well, that might take awhile but someother software might work just as well. Either way,
Does anyone know if word, excel, and powerpoint will work in some kind of fashion?

G1 Bluetooth
I've asked in various stores and got different answers, so I'm hoping someone with a G1 can give me a definitive answer.
Will the G1 allow another device to access the internet over bluetooth??
Specifically I make a lot of use of my TomTom sat nav during the day, and I rely on it getting traffic updates over the web by bluetooth with my phone. Before I buy a G1 will this still work?
TIA
Dave
maybe?
For now no. maybe some one will develop
Poo, that means I have to still carry a PDA and a phone, I was hoping I could put both together by getting a G1.
You can get GPS Maps and Web access through your G1, so you wont need your TomTom. However, it wont be as detailed or have voice.

YET!!! LOL
The hardware is there, but the software isn't finished yet. Right now the only thing Bluetooth can do in Android is connect to a hands-free headset. As I understand, Google is still working on the Bluetooth API and the other profiles will be enabled in a future software update.
Personally, I'm waiting for A2DP. Not a whole lot of point in loading a phone with music if it doesn't work with my headphones.

We use our PDAs alongside our TomToms in vehicles, and to be honest I quite like having them seperate for various reasons.
I'll just have to wait for bluetooth internet then maybe reconsider my position.

I agree I like having separate devices. I don't like combining too many things into one object because you can't use them at the same time. I have a TomTom, a MP3/video player, and the G1 now... But I like the fact that when the TomTom is not up to date I can switch to the G1... and if I find myself without my MP3 player I can just use my G1. I like having the option but I don't use it on a daily basis.
TomTom traffic
I understand your concern as I have a similar problem. I have the Vario II and I have had a lot of trouble with it (WM6.1) connecting to the Tomtom traffic server. My case may be complicated by the fact that I ride (tomtom rider) and I cannot get the phone to fix things in the middle of the ride The problem started when Micro$oft changed DUP bluetooth connection and everything gets messed up. I was considering the android G1 as long as I can get the traffic service that I paid but I cannot use. And just to clarify, I do have a single tomtom unit which does the GPS and all the things. The phone is only to provide connection to the tomtom plus service.
I hope that comes soon.
flashing blue led for enabled bluetooth?
is there one? mine doesnt, yours?
Mine blinks when bluetooth is active... not sure if it's only when a device is connected or not but that would be nice to only see it when devices are connected.

working bluetooth and phone on cdma

ok boys and girls i got some good news and some bad news
thanks to all the hard work done by xda on the gsm shift
i was able to to get the phone working as it should with bluetooth
what i did was took my cdma shift along with the files for the gsm shift
up to a computer guy i know in tampa he was able to use the gsm files to
get my phone send and get calls like it should
as for the bluetooth that was a bit harder first you need to understand there
are not only two os systems but two main boards one for the computer and
one for the cell phone and are linked with a date cable
the two programs that join them are communication manager
on the vista side and snap view on windows mobile side
the key is this on the wm side you have the bluetooth program but htc did not
put any bluetooth hardware on the cell phone board it self
the pc board has both but no link was set up to the wm bluetooth program
what we ended up doing was creating a short cut much like a desk top
short cut that links the wm bluetooth program with bluetooth hardware
on the vista board
this has two down sides one now i can not use bluetooth for any thing on the vista side
small price to pay but im sure it could be made to share with some work much like two
different programs are able to use the same cam or printer
the other downside vista has to be running at times to keep the link so after disabling sleep and hibernate modes
i have about a 3 hr talk time and about 5 hr standby time
i my self don't care about using bluetooth on the pc side and i got two more chargers one for the car and
one for the office so its nothing more than a tiny speed bump for me one i can live with for now
now for the bad news
i had my guy making up cab files to share i reset my phone back like new did the hard spl
and got my phone back to were it was when i first brought it to him and when i installed the cab it
screwed up my phone it took many trips to tampa and countless hr's but she's up running again
with buying the phone tech fees and gas i have well over $1200 in a phone i bought on ebay for $550
i just cant justify putting any more time or money into working cab files sorry
don't give up hope it can be done and who knows hopefully my post will put the
programmers at xda the right path to get it done for you guys as well

Hi Sunjin. Thank you for the great post. This shows that still everything is possible. Just when I thought the Shift has since been placed in the history books you come with this glimmer of hope.
One or two issues that are not clear though, mainly about the bluetooth issue:-
1. How do you create the bluetooth shortcut exactly. Do you do so on the windows side of windows mobile side. How exatcly do you do it.
2. It is not very clear from your post whether the bluetooth on winmo side is only active with the vista side powered up. Please clarify this.
3. And finally did your tech guy look into the sd card issue. Of course as we all Shift owners know enabling sd card winmo side is the absolute necessity that we cry for every day. If he looked into the issue perhaps the matters surrounding sd card are the same as those of bluetooth that the hardware can be shared but there is no programme to link the two sides.
I know there is a way of sharing the sd card between vista and winmo but as of now the vista side has to be on to access the sd card. Of course all these efforts of unlocking winmo completely is for the purposes of getting the battery to last longer coz with vista on you must be next to a power source to do any meaningful work. same reason i believe why you have a car charger and extra power adapter in the office. I do have a car charger too but sometimes I want to go hiking with the Shift in the backpack......

[Q] Connection sharing?

Hi
I've been using HTC phones for years now, always been on O2 and I've always used my various flavours of XDA to connect my laptop to the internet. I am at this very moment using my Polaris via bluetooth to connect to this forum with my laptop, that is my problem.
It it the one function that the Polaris does that I can't make my HD7 do. Am I missing something here? Surely the HD7 can do this, it is a pretty basic function of a phone so I reckon the problem here is the user.
I am currently having to swap my sim card between devices whenever I need to connect to the net with my PC.
I little help here would be very appreciated.

Actually, at this time I dont believe there is any way to tether the HD7 to a PC and if I remember correctly, I believe at this time the bluetooth on the HD7 only works for a headset and nothing else. I may be wrong so Id do a bit more searching but I believe this is what I have read and heard...
Feeling your pain.... My PSTN telephone line is down (taking my broadband with it) so having to stick my sim back in my water damaged HTC HD2 and with a stroke of luck and with the awesome windows controller 'MyMobiler' I can use that as my modem... Was a bit shocked that this was missing with WP7 going after the business (and social) sectors...
