Hello!
I have a Vibrant T959 and I'm looking forward to give a try Galnet ICS MIUI but... there is no T959 build. There's however a Bell Vibrant build, but AFAIK Vibrant T959 is more similiar to Captivate, not Bell Vibrant.
So - will Captivate ROM work on Vibrant T959?
And if not - I won't have any troubles getting into recovery mode and flashing another ROM?
You'll need a kernel for that ROM for your device otherwise it will boot loop.

Can someone clarify for me what changes i need to make to install a vibrant rom on a captivate. Can i simply change the kernels or is it going to be more complicated?
Just the kernel to fix the home and back buttons. And other issues. Id use setirons kernel. It should have more in common with the vibrant than the captivate kernel. There is also DGs kernel for perception but you have to pull it from the .Zip. But i wouldn't really know for sure what will work the best. Be sure to report any unexpected issues. Eugene does great work. His eclair Rom were the best. But he hasn't posted any froyo Rom for the captivate.
Edit. If its not included id use the bell jk3 modem. You can open the .Zip and replace the zimage with the one from setirons or DGs kernel and the modem.bin for the bell vibrant jk3 Rom found in the modem thread.

i have captivate with at&t bootloader,if i flash a custom rom which is built in i9000 bootloader is it make any difference ?. after flashing i9000 bootloader can i use galaxy s custom rom on my captivate?.
Custom roms don't usually have bootloaders built in. That us something that"stock" roms do. ROM developers usually remove them, providing a link in the op of their thread for those that need them.

The i897 and i9000 gingerbread boot loaders should work for any non-CM7 based ROM in the development section. The only issue you may have with an unmatched boot loader to the ROM is the stock music player skipping when the phone is locked.
i897 running Mosaic VII

From my understanding att gb roms doesn't work on i9000 gb bl. Can someone confirm this? Also cm7 roms works on GB bootladers (both att and i9000) for most people.

i897 GB bootloaders and I9000 should work each way. As mentioned before the music player issue is there. That being said Some devs feel that if you are running I897 BL on a I9000 port and its acting funky could because of the BL. Same applies if you are on a I897 rom with i9000 bl's. As to my knowledge CM7 and MIUI work on both eclair bl or GB bl, I do believe there might be kernels for specific bl? Not sure anymore, stopped following a while back.
Don't know about cm7, but i9000 loaders on MIUI can cause a few minor acts of weirdness, the biggest being not able to see your external sd card. Also, in my experience you haves to be on a Samsung based ROM because if the file system to change bootloaders. I've tried ato c change while still on MIUI and I got nothing but boot loops. As for kernels, bothGlitch and Platypus kernels will work on the I897 GB bootloaders now.

You will need a reoriented i9000 kernel (like Talon) and a i9000 modem. That being said I have no clue if it will work all fine, I know i9000 ports take time and tweaking for them to run right. Studa would know better than me on that.
Hello XDA,
I recently acquired a Samsung Telus T959D Fascinate and have anxiously waiting for a ICS release.
In order to use ]teamhacksung's ICS Port for Galaxy S (BUILD 9) for my fascinate, I used >>This Thread<< to flash a i9000 kernel to use the ROM.
Now I am confused a bit. I've done some research on XDA and google, but for some reason can't get a straight answer on what to do in order to flash back a regular Samsung Fascinate ROM, such as CM7.1. I want to flash back, but I don't know which kernel to use because I am currently using the i9000 kernel.
I could flash one by Glitch and try CM7.1 from there, but I'm not sure what the voodoo lagfix option is and why it would brick my phone.
If any of you could recommend a kernel to flash to use regular Fascinate ROMs, and a kernel to use for i9000 ROMs, it would be greatly appreciated
I would reccomend Lords kernel v 9.3 BFS. If you like I can send you the download.
I'm considering switching to ICS, but I'm wondering is there an ICS kernel that is based on I9000 sources? Like how we have JVU, JW1, etc. I9000 kernels? It seems that the most popular is Glitch, but Glitch is I897.
I also need a modem for ICS that doesn't give me the roaming message since I'm on Fido. Since modem works with the kernel, this means that if there are no I9000 based ICS kernels, then I can't use a I9000 modem.
glitch (and all cm kernels) are reoriented from the I9000 to work properly with the I897, they aren't based off of captivate anything, so you HAVE to use an I9000 modem, if you look all the modems posted in an aosp format are I9000
I'm on glitch with jk4
And also your phone wouldn't work quite normally if you flashed a real i9000 kernel

And you have to use the ones made for cm7. The cwm package has a different install script.
