[Q] need devs help in a rom problem - XPERIA X8 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

hello a noob question
how to get logcat if the rom your trying to install is stocking at logo (ginger dx)????????????????????
i really need help
and thx in advance

Boot on CWM and use ADB.
1) boot on CWM
2) connect your phone
3) on your computer run: adb logcat > logcat.txt

i got this :
c:\adb>adb shell
~ # adb logcat > logcat.txt
adb logcat > logcat.txt
/sbin/sh: adb: not found
what seems to be the problem ?

you must type c:\adb\adb logcat > logcat.txt in cmd windows (not in adb shell)

on cmd: type cd \ then cd adb then type adb logcat > logcat.txt
and for dmseg type: adb shell dmesg > dmesg.txt

i got this in logcat.txt :
* daemon not running. starting it now *
* daemon started successfully *
/sbin/sh: exec: line 1: logcat: not found
what did i do wrong ?
help please

Not adb shell, then logcat.
You must type adb logcat > logcat.txt

the dmesg worked
so does this file (dmesg.txt) contain logcat or what is it ?
i mean is it some kind of another log ? or is it the same log
sorry for the noob question and thanks for your replies

You could try fastboot oem boot superboot.img allthough I don't think it will work, we have tried this on the Eris but who knows maybe yours will be different

Did anyone try what I said, "fastboot oem boot superboot.img" make sure you have oem in there otherwise it will just hang at booting..... I'm just curouse if it works for you guys.
I have a feeling there stuck on it same as we are, the tattoo and eris are more alike than either to the hero

Yup, tried that. It just boots the phone to it's current (flashed) rom
I tried using the boot command and, while it's hanging at "booting...", I sent a oem boot, but no luck
If it boots to the current flashed rom then it might have worked. you wont notice a physical different if superboot boots.

Interesting. When I get mine (tattoo), I'll try it out. Superboot just allows us superuser access, doesn't it? If we boot with this, then run a Terminal emulator, type 'su', we'll be able to get root (temporarily)?
Im pretty sure thats how it works, im not 100% sure im following this thread closely as we are stuck @ the exact same point on getting the droid eris rooted, better side of 2 months working on it.
The wait for my HTC Tattoo is killing me. I really want to try this out before I go back to school...
I ordered it last week sometime and it's supposedly coming next week... If it all comes to the worse, I'll just try this at school.... Hehe
Alright, I did this, and I think it may get me somewhere.
I did this while on the home screen, with USB debugging enabled. I ran the mac fastboot script, and it booted into the HTC logo screen. It said "Booting..." and got stuck.
After a minute, I yanked the USB cord out, and it dumped me at the RUU screen with text like this in my Terminal:
Terminal said:

I then reinserted the USB cable and got this:

Done!

After that, I did some exploring with adb-mac:
Matthew-Coburns-MacBook:1.2-tattoo-superboot matthew$ ./adb-mac shell

$ su
su: permission denied

And so, I got the dreaded permission denied error! Oh well, at least I tried...
Any suggestions?

[Kernel] Hydra-kernel **UPDATE 8/20**

Get them at http://hydrakernel.net
Has anyone tried this yet?
doesn't work SETcpu can't read it.
Does it break anything? This should allow us to do adb remount too, right?
It 'should'..
I did get into adb/recovery and loaded the new recovery. it looks like it flashed. but on reboot...
Code:
ro.secure=1
so I am guessing my update script failed.
script
Code:
assert(file_getprop("/system/build.prop", "ro.build.fingerprint") == "verizon/inc/inc/inc:2.1-update1/ERE27/161493:user/release-keys" ||

assert(getprop("ro.product.device") == "inc" ||
getprop("ro.build.product") == "inc");
set_progress(1.000000);
ui_print("Writing boot image...");
write_firmware_image("PACKAGE:boot.img", "boot");
set_progress(1.000000);
*edit*
looks like the update script is the issue. (p.s I miss fastboot )
Code:
// write_firmware_image(file, partition)
//
// partition is "radio" or "hboot"
// file is not used until after updater exits
//
Try this in recovery:
Code:
adb push ./boot.img /sdcard
Then, open a shell to your phone via 'adb shell', get root, and do the following two commands to flash your new boot image:
Code:
# cat /dev/zero > /dev/mtd/mtd2
write: No space left on device [this is ok, you can ignore]
# flash_image boot /sdcard/boot.img

Yes, sorry. I took that for granted. Here is the revised instructions. I attached flash_image.

adb push ./boot.img /sdcard
adb push ./flash_image /sdcard
Then, open a shell to your phone via 'adb shell', get root, and do the following two commands to flash your new boot image:
Code:
adb shell

# /system/bin/cat /sdcard/flash_image > /system/bin/flash_image
# /system/bin/chmod 755 /system/bin/flash_image
# /system/bin/cat /dev/mtd/mtd2 > /sdcard/mtd2.img
# /system/bin/cat /dev/zero > /dev/mtd/mtd2
write: No space left on device [this is ok, you can ignore]
# /system/bin/flash_image boot /sdcard/boot.img
that didnt work.. resetting...... try again tomorrow

Fastboot does not do anything if you are not on an engineering SPL.
So I know this doesn't have much to do with this kernel buuuut for some reason last night in SetCPU the only thing I could adjust was idle speeds updated SetCPU and have access too the full bit? Max says 998400 min 24500... hmmm? Any ideas?

shouldnt you make the script ro-secure=o not 1? so it would unlock the nand?
I did. but on reboot it still shows as =1. so i assume the flash failed
I have never done this before but is it possible to just copy the kernel on our phone, unpack it, edit the default.prop and repack it? I don't have Linux or I would try it myself. Check out this wiki. It explains how to do it. It seems easy enough for someone who knows how to compile a kernel.

[SOLVED] install-recovery.sh - The undeletable script from the dark side...

Greeting all,
First of, I would like to thanks all of you for the amount of info I have found in this forum.
This is trully amazing and, so far, allowed me to sucessfully:
- Unlock my phone
- Root my phone
- Install a custom recovery image
I know that I am creating a new post on a very known and discussed subject BUT after 2 days of google seach nothing I have tried has permitted me to sucessfuly delete this £$%^&*() of script.
As you all know, it needs to be deleted to launch the custome recovery image (at the moment, I am stucked with the exclamation mark with the little Droid when I try).
IMPORTANT: I currently run the Froyo android 2.2 official ROM.
To delete this scipt, I have tried 2 approaches:
- Console mode from windows using ADB
- directly form the phone using a File explorer
#1: From the console:
As mentionned in many previous posts, I have tried the following commands once connected to the nexus
adb shell
su
mount -o rw,remount -t yaffs2 /dev/block/mtdblock3 /system
I beleive this command is either incorrect OR no longer working with Froyo 2.2 as I get the following message which looks fishy (I am not a Linux specialist...):
Usage: mount [-r] [-w] [-o options] [-t type] device directory
When I try to delete the scripe with the commande below, I am kindly informed that it failed as it is still a read only file system
rm /system/etc/install-recovery.sh
#2: From the phone
I read that SUFBS, a very nice file explorer was available on the market allowing to mount both system AND data in RW would allow me to do it.
I have had several try at it enabling RW at different moment (System then etc then directly when I am in the folder and see the script I want to delete) and whatever I do, each time I select the command delete, it looks like it works (little pacman eating) but the script from the dark side is sill there like nothing happened...
As I am close to give it the microwave treatment to see if it works better ;-) I thought I give it a try on the forum to see if any Android/Linux god would spend 5 minutes to explain to me what I am doing wrong...
Thanks a lot in advance!
BooToo
Try this:
mount -o rw,remount /system
I can't guarantee that works with Froyo but it's all I've ever used and I don't remember it giving me any problem when I used Froyo.
Umm I think it should be mount -o remount,rw then type the rest
You can also try this mount -o remount,rw /dev/block/mtdblock3 /system
Sent from my Nexus One using XDA App
adb is supposed to have it's own remount command for doing this, but I've only used adb once when I rooted so I'm no help there.
Other than that, try doing: ls -l /system/xbin/mount to see if mount is a link to busybox. If it is, the last part of the output will look like this: /system/xbin/mount -> busybox
If it is, type busybox | head -n1 to see what version of busybox you have.

Heh, I never realized I had those backwards compared to how people usually do it, but the order doesn't actually matter. It's not necessary to specify the device as the remount option doesn't change the mount point or device.
# mount | grep system
/dev/block/mtdblock3 on /system type yaffs2 (ro,relatime)
# mount -o rw,remount /system
# mount | grep system
/dev/block/mtdblock3 on /system type yaffs2 (rw,relatime)
Well...
I am an ass...
I did not have enabled the "USB debugging" on the phone...
Problem soved with the exact command lines I put at the beginning...
After rooting, flashing clockworkmod through ROM manager it was still going into stock recovery mode. Then I deleted /system/etc/install-recovery.sh and got my phone(HTC magic - 32A) bricked. Now it starts, shows rogers logo for 5-6 seconds and restarts and repeats untill i take out battery. I tried all combinations(power+back , power+home, Power+volume, Menu+home+power, menu+call+power) for quickboot and recovery mode but no success. Anyone has any idea about this issue?

Did you resolved the error(making boot.IMG smaller).... After compiling what did you get zimage or boot.img directly.....????

when i change max size in BoardConfig.mk, after compilation i have 3 files : system.img, recovery.img and boot.img and others files like ramdisk_android.img, ramdisk_ubuntu.img, dt.img....
But still can't flash boot.img (failled due to the size is big).
I'm now trying to delete unneeded drivers and files in device tree and hope will work

Hmmm... Give it a try... Try unpacking the boot.IMG(Ubuntu) and unpack stock titans boot.IMG then replace its zimage(stock) with ubuntu's zimage then repack it.... Hope this works.....

When i just unpack and repack the boot.img generated, the size is reduced (10.8mb to 9.5mb), i don't know why?, i got 5 files :
boot.img-base,
boot.img-cmdline,
boot.img-pagessize,
boot.img-ramdisk.gz and
boot.img-zimage
I will try your idea

Sorry, you want port Ubuntu Touch using cm-13.0 ?
If yes, you must change titan_defconfig using this script
https://github.com/janimo/phablet-porting-scripts
But you must disable some flags like CONFIG_DEBUG_RODATA
Congo for your first boot... and please contact @h2o64 as he ported ubuntu touch to moto g 2013.... Hope he will help you

creating my 1st module: but service.sh never run

Magisk v19.3 on lineageos 16.0 for wt86047
trying to create my first module, no files to replace, just one task: run a remove.sh script
I put following two lines in ./common/service.sh , but there's no file created after boot , seems the service.sh itself never be run at all.
echo -e "\n------------${MODPATH}----------------------------" >> /sdcard/s.txt >&1
sh ./remove.sh
LATESTARTSERVICE=true in ./install.sh --YES
./META-INF/com/google/android/update-binary updated --YES
./module.prop edited --YES
the module installed with no error --YES
manual run remove.sh successfully in terminal after reboot --YES
called from service.sh --NO
need help, THANK YOU!
attached remove.sh
Code:
#!/system/bin/sh
DIRFILE="/sdcard/dir"
if [ -f "$USRFILE" ];then
while IFS= read -r LINE
do
if [ -n "${LINE}" ];then
...
...
fi
I haven't looked at what might be your issue, but you don't need a module for that... Just place your remove.sh script in /data/adb/service.d and give it execution permission.

thanks. but it doesn't work either.
When I manually run the script from terminal, it prompt 'Permission denied.'
But it works after execute 'su' first.
Is this the reason? But how could I authorise root right to the script since it doesn't pop dialogbox at all.
Again, I haven't looked at your script at all, but...
Any scripts run by Magisk at boot will run with superuser permission. That's not your issue...
Might be that the script has to run after boot is completed (if it works while booted but not during boot). You can look for the sys.boot_completed and when it's changed to 1 you can let the script execute.
I use this code in my modules, if it can help
Code:
_SLEEPBOOT=60
# ...
RETRY_INTERVAL=${_SLEEPBOOT} #in seconds
MAX_RETRY=30
retry=${MAX_RETRY}
while (("$retry" > "0")) && [ "$(getprop sys.boot_completed)" != "1" ]; do
sleep ${RETRY_INTERVAL}
((retry--))
done

Code:

insert this code to script but still not work...
after all, found the solution:
don't use '/sdcard/, use '/storage/emulated/0/' instead, don't know why

Might have worked if you had checked for sys.boot_completed = 1.
But yeah, /sdcard isn't available during boot. To be even more sure it'll work you could use /data/media/0 instead. That's always available (as long as /data is accessible).

though the script can work alone , I still want make it a module so that could install/disable easier with magisk gui than terminal.
currently I'm add a 'bypass' mode while script load, if volume key pressed repeatly. (like xposed does) but the code can only work after unlock, it seems the getevent can't work after system reboot, before keyguard unlocked. any workaround? thx!
Code:
#!/system/bin/sh
KEYSTRING="KEY_VOLUME"
KEYREPEAT=1
KEYCOUNTS=0
until [ "$(getprop sys.boot_completed)" ]
do
sleep 2
done
setenforce Permissive
echo 300 > /sys/class/timed_output/vibrator/enable
sleep 0.3
for i in `seq 1 4`;
do
EVENT=$(timeout 1 getevent -l -q -c 1)
RESULT=`echo $EVENT | grep -c $KEYSTRING`
input keyevent mouse
if [ "$RESULT" -gt 0 ] ;then
KEYCOUNTS=`expr $KEYCOUNTS + $RESULT`
echo 100 > /sys/class/timed_output/vibrator/enable
fi
done
if [ "$KEYCOUNTS" -gt "$KEYREPEAT" ] ;then
echo 1000 > /sys/class/timed_output/vibrator/enable
fi
Simple, just put your code in the service.sh file of the module instead of a separate script file...

can't work. so I put the keypress detection part in a standalone script for debug. just script in service.d folder, not pack to module yet.
if I run the script manually in terminal after keyguard unlocked, everything works as I want
but not when keyguard locked status just after reboot.

I mean the code from your remove.sh file, not the key detecting stuff... That way you can disable the module from the Manager and also from TWRP (or other custom recovery) by placing a disable file in the module directory or enabling Magisk Core Only Mode by placing a .disable_magisk file in /cache.
