Hello guys , i own SGS I9000 , came across very weird lagg when i flashed from stock eclair 2.1 to Gigerbread 2.3.4 , i have tried almost every rom except CM7 and Miui
i really liked the F1 GS2 V6 custom rom but i removed it due 2 bugs and reboots / lags
my MAIN lag is in browser and ANY thing that is related to scrolling , i just don't know what the F*ck is wrong with scrolling when i scroll down in my android market ...it's not smooth , when i scroll down in my music player , it's not Butter smooth but rather kinda choppy , scrolling down the contacts list , is rather choppy /laggy a bit not smooth , APP drawer , is choppy /laggy and not SMOOTH omggggg
i have tried clearing dalvik cash , wiped cash , factory reset , changed many roms , like JV6/ JVR/JVQ,JVH,JVP they all have the same problem
i tried darky's rom , jeuwes , F1 gs2 v6 , they all have the same problem :/ :/
BROWSER has some laggs too , when i pinch to zoom it takes about fraction of a second late to respond sometimes , also i can see some pixels when i pinch to zoom (( please help i will try to donate to whoever helps me solve this crapp problem , iam on Surface rom last , Speedmod kernek K15i-16
Lag fix disabled ( i have tried on many roms and i can't seen a change ) but not on this rom
i haven't tried Miui rom , i have watched some videos like this one
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_ls4V496kwI
look how fast this thing goes !!!!!!!! can any one help me make my SGS like this one !????????????????????? any tweaks ?
is it available for 2.3.4 ?? JVR
I have galnets miui (chameleon RC1) with the neo 17 r7 kernel (really fast kernel).
Its increadibly fast even without overclocking.
I do recommend a ram tweak because with the stock settings it starts to lag after some time.
I personnaly use "autokiller memory optimizer" from the market.
Then I set the presets (press the menu button) to strict.
Now my sgs is really fast and it never lags.

Just out of interest, what quadrant score do you get?

1500 , less than 2000 for sure
sounds like you need a complete cleanse of your system and a clean install. The latest GTO Tornado kernel provides for a complete clean, flash the kernel, go into recovery, clean your system, connect usb, mount the sd card, copy rom, unmount, install rom in recovery, all clean and no lag (at least with Tornado RC2 rom, can't guarantee any one else's roms, but then you have tried most to know that already...)
Hmmm....
If you download the TEMP/CPU app, what is your CPU utilisation and free memory when the phone is doing nothing? (set display timeout to a long time) and watch.
My phone ticks over at 1-2% when its doing nothing proving the android overhead is very low.
Have you tried deleting all of the bloatware (I use SGS Chlorine) to automatically delete bloatware? I delete the following:-

I think you do need to a clean install of JVR (odexed) followed by a factory reset. I also keep my apps in internel memory.
Then try latest semaphore kernel, I use Tegrak to set max CPU speed to 1.1Ghz and its very fast and rock solid.
u need to format the internal,(phone),ext mem ,,i mean a totall format
Install CM.

deodexed: easier to tweak, lighter on ram, heavier on space, slightly more laggy.
odexed: faster boot (after dalvik wipe), easier on space, harder to tweak themes, slightly more RAM, smoother/faster!
Odexed JVR browser doesn't suffer with the known lag, also try opera browser as this is fast

i flashed MiUi Rom it's very pretty and i will be using it for a long time , it fixed some lags at certain areas , Opera browser REALLY is better than stock very fast , sometimes it's snappy but i get a bit lag during pinch to zoom OUT or move arround in browser , i get lag during transition effect , like when i switch from a home screen to the next one it's choppy , any idea ???
MIUI and CM7 which MIUI is based on are indeed super smooth roms for me and bunch of other people. I've been on MIUI for a month now and that in itself is sign of how good MIUI is, I love to flash my phone, one of the reasons I came back to SGS and android after an iOS episode.
My point is that I cannot believe all the issues you have with all these roms.
Every android lags every now and than even SGS 2, u learn to live with it. Even iOS has micro lags sometimes, granted I had 3gs but in general iOS is miles ahead of android when it comes to that. So trade ur SGS for an iphone and have a lag free life. Well, almost.

Hi all on xda i'm wanting to improve my galaxy s i9000 speed, at the moment my phone runs at abt 960-1000 on quadrant standered which i know is rubbish, my galaxy s is on a stock rom & kernel (firmware 2.3.3, build number GINGERBREAD.XWJVH, kernel 2.6.35.7-i9000XWJVH-CL184813 [email protected] #2) updated using kies, I used to have it rooted but unrooted it don't know why what r my options regarding getting better results on quadrant any help on this topic would be much appreciated.
Thank you
John
install a custom rom,
if u want good battery, decent speed then install Darkys Rom,
if u want PURE speed (with stock android, without the touchwiz ui) then install CyanogenMod7
or just go over to the development section and experiment around with the Roms,
MAKE SURE THAT B4 U INSTALL A ROM, U ARE ROOTED BY INSTALLING A GINGERBREAD KERNEL THORUGH ODIN, AND THAT YOU KNOW HOW TO GET OUT OF A SITUATION IF U HAPPEN TO BRICK YOUR PHONE (LIKELY, BUT EASY TO FIX ) however, if u do anything to your phone and u dnt know how to fix it, im not responsible, ill try 2 help but wnt guarantee anythink
if i helped, be sure to click the "thanks" button
Forget quadrant, just a random number generator. High score in quadrant has value when you wanna show off, and at the same time let others know you really don't know.
I'm still going on XWJVH, happy user of rooted Semaphore kernel 1.8.2.
The included Semaphore app gives you access to a lot of tweaks, Voodoo color/sound and a smooth operating phone.
The latest leaked ROMs (XXJVS, XXJVT) still has bugs: phone FC, WIFI disconnect. If you feel brave and wanna try one of these ROMs, make sure to read what's fixed in their OP and latest posts for experience of users.

Try ThunderBolt! in my sig. Be sure to read the requirements and meet them before flashing
Stock jvt
or faaryabs f1 rom v13 that hopefully will be released today if you want more features.
talon or semaphore as kernel.
And thunderbolt tweaks.

delete unnecessary apps
root and delete unneccesary apps.
Flash stock JVT and Semaphore, then convert to EXT4.
my WiFi works fine, and for the Phone FC, just flash the JVT Phone Fix.
For me this is the best stock ROM that I've tried. Fast and stable, the browser has improved a lot.

+1 on Pikachu01 Thunderbolt script. Running very much smoother on my SGS.
Mitra Rom is faster then other and use lagfix

If you use JVT with JVK modem the phone will operate amazingly, no phone fc, no wifi disconnect, great battery life + performance.
Good luck!
try miui mintberry
My advice would be first flash a few custom roms+kernels and see how that works for you.
If that isn't fast or smooth enough you could try tweaks like thunderbolt!

MIUI mint berry and via rom toolbox clocked into 1,3ghz
I´m on JVZ with Semaphore 2.1.1 and overclocked CPU (1300 mhz). This motor is fast, stable and smooth.
Hey!
2.3.6 is very good!
you should test at the beginn of your "Flash carrier" a few Roms + Kernels.

Look, if you want a rom that supports custom themes, mods and other tweaks, then go for stock JVT or some custom rom. But it is undeniable that gingerbread will always lag slightly on the galaxy s due to low ram. Heck, it even lacks on the nexus s.
In reality, if you want a lag-free (and I really mean LAG-FREE) rom, you should go for Froyo 2.2.1 roms. Froyo roms were meant for 512mb of ram, and they work flawlessly on the galaxy s. ZSJPK 2.2.1 never lagged on my SGS.
And just to be clear, ram is indeed the limiting factor to smoothness on our phone. On Gingerbread, free ram is less than 100mb after a day's usage, and so the phone has to constantly close and reopen background processes while you're using it. If I'm not mistaken, the default kernels begin to close apps and processes once ram drops below 64mb. Eg: Free ram is 100mb. You open the browser which uses 20mb, and then when you load facebook which uses another 20mb, the free ram has dropped below 60, so while processing the webpage, the cpu has to simultaneously close background processes. Then when you leave fb, the cpu reopens those processes. Hence, the phone lags.
But on Froyo, there's up to 180mb of ram on boot, and somehow ram consumption after prolonged use is not that high, so it can last for days with over 120mb of ram and hence never lags.
In conclusion, the only viable solution to lag that I have experienced so far is by using froyo 2.2.1 roms, especially the later builds like ZSJPK or the other one which name I cannot remember. Things like voodoo lagfixes don't really help (unless you're on eclair) and custom rom tweaks are really just placebo effects actually.

Wrong thread. Also there is tonnes of information a single google search away on how to root your phone. One way is to download Odin and then flash a rooted kernal such as CF-Root onto the phone from Download mode.
Hey im using this phone for 1 month and im impressed by the performance. I downloaded few heavy games and apps like shadowgun and galaxy and few compilers and photo editing softwares. After installing them they were running smoothly. But after sometimes the app starts lagging. When i check the ram used i came to know that even i close the apps the app process is still taking some resources from ram i know its necessary for multitasking but the apps which you dont want to use further should be able to remove from memory. I tried with advanced task killler but after sometime that apps come back in the ram please tell a solution for and i think many users must have ezperiencing this. It is using up the memory unnecessarily.

use cm7.2 kang and use antoher kernel like vadonka, iron kernel.
vadonka provides 32mb ram hack and non 32 mb ram hack.
ironkernel provides 32mb, 64mb, and 96mb hack and non ram hack.
or you can install miui which is faster enough too.
or stock rom but already tweaked with another kernel such as horse power kernel which is nice and so on
just look the development section. LG rom is suck!!
If you have ram issues then you could also try to freezer these apps with titanium backup for example. Also, you could flash a custom kernel with ram hack of course...

Hello!
The behaviour you describe in you starting post is quit "normal" for the LG stock rom - it is a known bug - stock rom has memory leaks and you need to reboot the phone from time to time get all ram back.
The camera app from CM7 is ok in the latest KANGS.
CM7 has a better ram management and using a cutom kernel can speed up things even more (considerably).
But you could also install a custom rom based on a stock rom rebuild like i.e. Guestes or Manouches roms - they should work better than standard stock and are based on newer(leaked) sources...
ICS will come, but CM9 needs still some time and the ICS build from LG won't be here before next winter...
Err... im confused my friend. Cynomod is a custom rom rite? and what is a kernel ? can you change kernel in your stock rom? please tell.
Sent from my LG-P990 using XDA App
Yes cyanogen is a custom rom.
The kernel is a script that allows software to access the hardware. It's easy to change and there are many threads in dev forum about custom kernels. However I think you have to read some guides before
Hi everyone,
I was using GingerDX for 2 months on stock kernel, and it was really slow. Apps launched slowly (took 3-4 seconds at least), when i pulled down the statusbar it was very laggy, animations were laggy etc. I had only 40-50 MB free RAM even when i closed every running apps and unnecessary services, and it restarted the launcher everytime i pressed the home button. So the whole ROM was very slow (I even overclocked it to 710 MHz).
Yesterday I installed the stock 2.1 ROM and it is freaking smooth compared to GDX, no lag, launcher doesn't restart, I have around 80 MB free RAM when nothing is running, and it goes down to 50 MB when i run 3 foreground apps and more background apps at the same time, and touch is way more responsible. I didn't even overclock it.
I haven't tried any other custom ROM. Is GingerDX really that slow? I don't believe, because it is very popular. So what is the reason it runs way slower than 2.1? Maybe because I have stock kernel? I really want to use this ROM since it has so many features.
Hi Lajbymester ,
Welcome to the community.
Please take some time to Introduce Yourself and read FORUM RULES.
Hope you enjoy your stay here, and help others in the future.
I beg to disagree. GDX is popular because it is a very good ROM. Please do try fullwipe, then flash the ROM as instructed in GDX first page.
Thanks for the welcome
I have already full wiped and reinstalled the ROM about 5 times, used all versions from v021 and it didn't get any smoother.

Hi,
For now, I´ll just ask you to give us some more information. Could you post what do you use on your phone?? Even in stock kernel I´ve never felt laggy on GingerDX.
With fresh install, what did you change? Undervolt? OC? I remember that ppl had issues on Stock Kernel and GingerDX running with OC module from doixahn. Try to see if the Rom you are using is undervolted or not.
Will you try it on Custom Kernel?
BTW, which laucher are you using on it?
I flashed doixanh's OC module and it seems i used the Undervolt too because it is integrated into the ROM. I can't flash a custom kernel because my phone's manufacturing date is 11W48 so it would be a brick. I'm using GO Launcher EX.
No we mean the step you do. What are the step you do and setting you do to your phone?
try removing the OC and UV modules, and I suggest you to use Laucher Pro, it seems to be smother than other lauchers I ever tried.
To remove both OC and UV just open a root File Explorer (ES File Explorer has root access), go to /system/lib/modules and delet x8oc.ko and x8uv.ko if I´m not wrong. Them you test the rom again and see if you get better performance
It seems to be a bit faster now, I'm not sure yet
I got some free RAM with RAM Manager Pro, now i have the same as on stock ROM.
Well...I didn´t use any app to kill process or manage RAM on my phone, and It is smooth enough for me without OC . I´m using MiniCM right now, but it was the same on GingerDX
It seems to be smooth now, thanks for the help
You´re welcome bro. That is why me and other ppl is here

Yes, Stock 2.2.2 v10f Rooted
It will be better if I update to the 2.3.4 and root it again?
As for the homescreen just install Launcher Pro. Its like 4X smoother than it nearest rival. Smoother than my iphone4.
I use CM7 with the stock gingerbread launcher and i have no lag at all in the GUI and most casual games (dont know about processor heavy games though).
As far as I know even upgrading to GB stock (if you can) is much better that froyo.
So if I want to update to the 2.3.4 through the LG Updater thing. Is that possible? Will I mantain the root or not?
I really want to reduce some lag...
Use smartflash and flash the cracked v20b (2.3.4) software. The only way to update and maintain root. Do backup all your stuff before this and do it at your own risk.
