I'd say that if you get it via the Amazon store, you'll have access to future upgrades that you probably won't get with Samsung's version.
I did what I normally due with most of these Amazon freebies. I purchase them, it starts the download, and then I cancel the install.
If I ever happen to need that program in the future, I just go to the Amazon App Store and its waiting to be downloaded and installed.
That's a pretty cool idea actually.

Yeah, it works well and I don't have 100 different apps cluttering up my phone and taking up space. The annoying part is that when I open the Amazon App store I always have 20+ apps waiting to be downloaded. I have to scroll through a list to find out what I have. Plus, I haven't found a way to delete a program I no longer want.
I tried downloading QuickOffice Pro from the Amazon App store yesterday many times throughout the day, and kept getting an error. So much for getting it free.

When did AT&T finally start let us AT&T guys use the Amazon App store? I noticed today I can now get the Apps there. I know I signed up to be notified when this would start but didn't get an email or I just missed it. I was able to get my 1st Free App this Morning....
if you rooted your phone and then enabled non-market apps, then you could have been using it all along.
i've been using it since they started it, although the free apps have been really sucky lately.

LOL.. I am Rooted didn't know I could been doing it.
Thanks
Yeah, I had it the first day.
The first apps they gave out were awesome, now its all bull****.
Not to mention a lot of their apps are older versions, and Amazon's customer service is mostly phone call based, you can't get the problem solved with email alone.

The free app is decent about once/week..but that's a far sight better than nothing
just keep in mind that whatever app you download from the amazon market, requires amazon market to be installed if you restore it in the future (via TiBu or similar app). You cannot restore an amazon app and exclude the market
Good to know, I didn't realize that. Though I did have a few issues early on with apps not... "authenticating" I think, it's been a while since I've seen it happen tbh.

I restore apps from amazon market by using TiBu and haven't had issues. Is it because I am also restoring amazon market at the same time that I haven't had issues?

Exactly. If you ever uninstall amazon market (or not restore it with tibu) they won't work anymore. I know this pisses off some people, but I don't think it's really that big a deal.
Not really, just leave it on, check the free app daily, otherwise leave it alone. But get any normally free apps from the main market, Amazon's evaluation process keeps them a version behind on most from what I saw.

me neither. I like to see what they offer each day. Once in a while, it's a really good app. I wonder if Freezing the amazon market will still allow you to use the apps from it.

Out of curiosity I just tested this. Freezing the Amazon Appstore causes both "Free Apps of the Day" and also regularly purchased paid apps to stop working. If you buy it on Amazon you have to keep the Appstore running and signed in to your account. I suppose I'll direct my future purchases toward the Google Market based on that and a few other variables.
Why do people care that amazon appstore needs to be installed for apps to work? Is anyone planning to uninstall it? The android market is installed and I don't think too many folks plan to uninstall it
I don't like being forced to keep the amazon store open, but I understand the need to. Otherwise they'd have to fiddle with every paid app so it checks with their servers not google to see if it's authentic. They're behind enough on their versions already.
Its also a bit annoying if you forget to install the amazon store with your backup.

Um, did anybody's Android Market layout just totally change? Mine did.
Edit: I just googled about it. There you have it folks: http://googlemobile.blogspot.com/2011/07/new-android-market-for-phones-with.html

Same problem here, but it shows the missing apps as "installed " when I search for them like xda. I uninstalled the update and had it pushed again and I saw my apps listed but then it went away after an hour. My brothers nexus s doesn't so that. I wonder what's causing it, but not a big deal for me.

Yeah I'm not sure what's going on... kinda of frustrating not being able to see whether my other apps have updates or not.
I agree, its a documented problem, I'm sure they'll push a fix

my list of apps in the market has been randomly missing a lot of apps for at least a year. "Clear data" restores all the installed apps, but after a while some go missing again. I'm quite surprised that it still happens with the new market.
No new market here, though... still 2.3.6
If you have problems with missing apps try to delete the data in the apps settings. Opening the market again will result in again an acceptation of the terms and your apps will be there again...

I still haven't gotten my market update yet, although I am in Canada.
I wish I had the old market. The new one is sluggish and has a lot of "features" I don't need.
i agree... new market is bloated and sluggish... i liked the functionality of the older market (i can browse a LONG list of top free apps)
So, just flash the old market!!! Its much better than the new one

There was a free App on that came out on the Amazon App store that i wanted but for some reason I would get an error message says my device was not compatible. So i went to the website and click on the free App, the site told me to go on my android device to start downloading it. Went back on the Amazon App store on my nook and it notified me there was an "Update". Click on it and the App auto installed and worked perfectly fine.
What app were you getting the error on and what ROM are you running? I have "bought" just about every free app Amazon has offered and I haven't seen any incompatibility checks yet. I am running CM7 recent nightlies. I always "buy" from the app not the web.
Any chance you are running rooted stock?
I've seen this before as well - peggle I think. Like the op says you can still "buy" the app from the web site even if your device is blacklisted.
Sent from my HTC Glacier using Tapatalk
Bought Peggle from the site, but still doesn't show up on the app, as far as I can tell there's no way to download it. Shame.
EDIT: The app store first told me the game was incompatable and wouldn't download, but then a few minutes later it asked me to install it. Works great.

That probably explains a lot of your problem. IIRC, Amazon's compatibility check is based mostly on the version of the OS you're running. You've probably been running into apps that the developer wrote for Gingerbread instead of your Froyo. That's not to say they don't work (mostly) on Froyo, just that the developer either didn't /couldn't test his app on Froyo or knows of some small bugs associated with Froyo.
As you've discovered, it is possible to circumvent the compatibility check and run the app. Just don't be surprised if the developer chooses to not support the app on your Nook if you run into problems down the line.
enjoy

changelog:
Adds +1 For Apps And Games, Pin Number For Purchases, And More…
there’s a brand-new settings menu, as well as click-to-read explanations of app permissions (not developer customizable, unfortunately). There’s also a brand-new Market icon to spruce things up.
Oh, and did we mention you can now use a custom PIN for purchases on your phone, instead of leaving your Google Checkout wide open for anyone that picks up your device? If you have kids, or your phone is stolen, this is one awesome feature to have – and really, it makes a lot of sense.
Root access is not required, but you’ll need Unknown Sources enabled in the Settings -> Applications menu to install it.
will the market be updated to this anyways? does it show all apps or not?

After screwing around with the new apk for 15 mins, it seems the missing apps problem may be fixed. I am currently holding my breath though...
Edit - immediately after making this post the problem returned. I can stop holding my breath now.

lol you guys think i would really post a virus or something. i found it. if you dont believe its true google android market 3.1.3. and yes the missing apps thing is there still. i use titanium backup. market doctor feature to fix that tho
For some reason this market is showing all apps for me that I've installed from Amazon store as if they need updating. When I yet updating them, it fails but still shows as if needing to be updated. That's annoying.

yea no kidding. if you have titanium backup you can detach those apps from the market so they wont show updating. those are apps from the amazon app store i think, love the +1 feature

+1 is a new google plus feature. if you go into the market and look at an app it will have the option to +1 it which is equivalent to liking a status on facebook. you can +1 websites and links. and all the links you've +1's can be viewed on your google plus
Market updates
Any ideas as to why the android market is not retrievable from the android market...other than the recursive need for the market in the first place
Loving the pin security, thanks for this.
I have no idea how to install this

I am not talking about paid/warez APKs, but would like to know if there is a trustworthy site that I can download free APKs from? For example, Softpedia is usually my goto site for freeware when I am looking for PC apps. Does such a site exist for Android? Thanks in advance for your replies and have a great day!
I forgot to mention that I am currently trying out the Amazon App Market.

Yes it does.
pandaapp.com is another good one. thats what i use for all my questionably legal app downloads
Same Boat
Why be so judgy im in the same boat also looking for a place to download to my pc because i have a game room that my wifi doesn't reach and the apps can only be downloaded via wifi or 3g (if available) using the play store, I would like to see google incorp. direct download to the tablet and phones via usb using your pc as a medium aka as long as your android device is connected via usb allow direct download
You can always try 4shared.com
I usually buy apps, but sometimes I like to take them for a spin before I buy them to see if it's worth it.
Remember, always support developers.
SlideME.org
I would say just search Google with the app name and .apk at the end. Works most of the time and I find the ones I need with no problem.
I would not recommend the Amazon App Store because last few times I downloaded, it would just bug out. Not sure if they fixed it now though.
APKs FOR THUNDERBOLT
TRY "MARKETPLACE.COM/ANDROID" see if you can't find something. I have in the past. At least give it a try
Good Luck

play store (android market) can wireless push / synch apps from android.market.com to any device synching to your google account / device. no need for usb. this has been available forever. as far as trustworthy freeware sites, some torrent trackers as well as a few other d/l hosting sites cater to this, but not many unfortunately.
