Sensation XL poor video performance - HTC Sensation XL

Hi i just got the sensation XL for 2 days and i noticed that it plays HD video (1280x720) with a choppy frame rate, can anyone check and help me with this issue ? i tried to factory reset and format the phone but no luck. Their 2 demo videos on the phone plays perfectly though.

Proably because they are encoded that way,, ill try some HD stuff tonight and see what happens

hi, i've played those on my Sensation and Sensation XE and they played perfectly fine. I downloaded those from youtube. Videos and images captured from my XL is also fine.
I tried different programs like mobo players or quicpic but still no luck.
Plz let me know if u notice any choppy frame rate or poor performance. Thanks!

I just downloaded BBC One HD - The Great Melt.
It looked stunning.
I've also download a few music videos in HD and they too are fantastic.

If you still need to view such videos which are crappy in playback ...try MX Video Player from Market and use S/W encoder ... might give better performance than H/W in such cases

I downloaded my videos from YouTube using Tubemate.apk
They are mp4 format played through the stock gallery. I had no idea mkv videos could even play on our device

i'm not saying it doesnt look stunning, but notice the frame rate of the video, especially when there's a camera span or high action , u can notice it's not smooth at all.
I just tried to play some HD videos with my friend's Sensation XL and still got the same crappy performance. U might not notice it at first but if u see some action trailer , it gets annoying.

The answer is actually quite obvious: The SOC in your Sensation XL is Snapdragon S2 with Adreno 205, which can only handle up to 720p videos with hardware acceleration, regardless of codec and video players. If you want HD videos, you should buy either galaxy S2 with Mali-400MP or Sensation (XE as well) with Adreno 220. There is no way you can play 1080p with your Sensation XL, since it is a hardware limitation.

Phone feels very laggy after playing videos using youtube app.

Does anyone ever encounter the phone become very laggy and choppy after using the youtube app? Its like the phone used to run buttery smooth at 60 fps then drops to 30 fps. Can feel the choppiness in homescreen switching, browser and everywhere. Restart the phone and it goes back to normal. Can someone please test if you get this after playing a few youtube videos in HQ?
I just watched an 8 minute HQ video using the youtube app. And saw no loss in performance after returning to home.

I'm using latest bindroid gingerbread rom.

I've found the same thing but not after YouTube. it seems to happen randomly but its easy to tell when by looking at the speed of the lock animation. Hopefully the reliability will get better with ICS.

Yes it happens sometimes after playing a dowmloaded video as well. Somehow it seems the display switched refresh rate to 30hz and forgot to switch back. Glad i am not the only one having this.

You mean that gives you the problem? Or it returns the phone to normal?
return to normal
Just a quick update. I dont get this random lag problem anymore after doing a factory reset. Just tried lots of youtube and videos and the phone always returns to 60 frames per second once out of the application.

Thanks guys

HTC have coded Beats Audio so it will only work with stock music player. From reading the Sensation forums I believe PowerAMP has a Beats Audio function, although I've never personally tested it.

Rubbish video quality?

Just wondering does any one else find this phone is terrible at playing videos? On mine I get these annoying faint vertical lines when playing videos.

Remember its running ICS on a 600mhz Processor, with 512 Ram and almost no power behind the Adreno 200....
Suggestion is to get something that is made to play videos or.... re size the videos with a converter to a less demanding format / definition.

Yea I realise it's not very powerful so it's not gonna play any high quality videos. I mainly just watch music vids on YouTube but I've just noticed generally videos don't look very good when compared to my old x8 but I guess the different screen size might have something to do with it.

Spot on my friend and the best bit, the X8 had a better processor etc haha ^__^
Its not just the screen, its how quick the processor is aswell to process data thats downloaded etc, in the form of videos.
Mine plays SD videos(600xYYY; 700xYYY etc.) quite good. Only problem are mkv videos, I guess the CPU is too weak to decode them properly.
I'm using MX player or BS Player with ARMv7 codecs.

I've always wondered why people would wanna play movies with resolutions that exceed the resolution of the mobile display itself... You would get better picture quality playing a video on the device native's resolution. And of course reduce the load on the CPU saving battery....
Yup S Advance can only view what it shoots. 720P.

1080P lags horribly,720p is enough atleast here, very clear.

For who suggests to enable force gpu rendering, thanks but it doesn't work. Even restarting the phone.
For who wonder why I try to play a 1080p on s advance its why I have a friend with a samsung S II and another with samsung S III and if they send me their camera video via Bluetooth, my Samsung S advance play only audio! Ok I pay less I get less but its really so different hardware? I wonder why? Gpu, codec, a simple boolean switch.
Please someone that wonder less and know more.

any way after trying about a dozen player i finally got to play 1080p using dice player:laugh:
i played many 1080p videos with medium to high bit rates...hope this will work for you...
Ps: in dice player the videos are shown to be HW decoded but playing them will make your battery back up/charge drop like "Turkey's in thanks giving" Damn i always wanted to use that line:laugh:
Hit thanks if i helped you..and help others who are in need of it
atheesh
Try BS player. Working great for me.but sometimes u will get only audio, no video, but when u try to play it again, it will play.
Best player for 1080p on S advance.

[Discussion] Slimport HDMI improvement and issues on Android 4.3

Since I have plugged in my Nexus 4 to the TV I noticed new stuff such has now it is not forced on landscape, more FPS in the OS makes it seem smoother on the TV, image and sound quality has been improved.
The only issues is that since Android 4.3 on YouTube while watching a video there is a blue block graphical glitch which only shows up on the TV, I do not know if it is an issue with the Slimport HDMI Adapter itself.

I have this issue too, it's a regression, I'm not impressed.

I'm on stock 4.3 tried JW- Faux and Franco kernels, both give me no problems whatsoever. However YouTube still uses S/W playback Try playing something with H/W encoder.

Apparently you can use VPlayer with YouTube links so you can watch YouTube videos using a H/W encoder.
