[Q] Question about Flashing my SGT 7" - Galaxy Tab Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hey there guys. I'm an Android n00b. For that matter, a Tablet n00b as well. Just got my SGT 7" from Verizon a few days ago on sale and I'm wanting to root it. From reading around, it appears that VZW has patched the exploits used by z4root and SuperOneClick in their latest 2.3.5 release (which my Tab has). So that means, as of now, the only way to gain root access is to flash with a pre-rooted ROM and kernel.
I'm trying to install this ROM here by dsb9938.
I downloaded Heimdall 1.1. I've opened it up and pretty sure I got the right files in the right slots. I'm not sure if I'm supposed to select "Repartition Device" or not. I downloaded the PIT file from another post here on XDA. I'm hoping it's the right one.
My question is this - I can put my device into download mode to get ready to flash it, but the "Start" button in Heimdall is greyed out Any ideas on why?
Thanks in advance! Hopefully I won't brick it!

Well I feel stupid.... I forgot to install the Hiemdall drivers. Once I did that, and *unselected* the bootloader option, it flashed just fine I'm wiping the data and factory resetting as I type.

[Q] Flashing CWM Recovery - can't see my phone model

Hello all! Hopefully, I put this thread in correct section. If not, please move it.
Anyway, here is my question.
I installed ROM Manager because I want to try some other ROMs on my SGS i9000 and when I want to flash the CWM Recovery, the only option I get is Google Nexus S. Is this normal? Should it show my model? Can there be any problems if I choose Google Nexus S option?

Thank you!
What ROM are you currently on ? if its a custom ROM you may have the Nexus Drivers, and that could be why it is only showing you that option.
there are many other ways of flashing a custom ROM so dont give up if ROM Manager starts acting up.
i personally prefer a flash with ODIN and all update Flashes through CWM
I recently upgraded from 2.2.1 to 2.3.3. Here you can see more info:
As far as i know, this is not a custom ROM, just leaked one. Or am I wrong? I upgraded it with ODIN too and it wasn't hard, I just think it would be even easier, if i didn't have to use the computer and could download ROMs directly on the phone.

Can't access CWM (with pics)

Seems my problem is so different from others, i think.
so here are some pics of it so you can understand my problem for i can't really describe it.

Did you do ever flash using Heimdall or Odin?
I'd rather go the procedure described for installing the OVERCOME rom. - It's pretty safe and if you follow all steps, you should end up with a fully working device.

[Q] Cannot flash any ROM...

Hello,
I'm fed up with this Nexus One... Short story:
-flashed Evervolv's ICS (with Blackrose suggested values). Everything went ok but due to slowness I wanted to revert back to stock Gingerbread.
-flashed CWM, flashed stock HBOOT (145/95/196). Wiped all caches, user data etc.
-downloaded tons of Passion ROMS from several sites. Tried with different, freshly formatted SD cards.
I have tried to change rom's name to update.zip and flash it from recovery. Does not work (E: Can't open /sdcard/update.zip
(bad) installation aborted").
Also tried to change the name to PASSIMG.zip and start on bootloader but it does not do anything when looking for passimg...
I have looked at similar issues but did not found anything... Any suggestions?

I'm struggling the last 2 days with the exact same issue :/
I've been doing these kind of stuffs the last 5 years and i understand how things suppose to work, but for some reason i got to the same point you explaining here without solving it.
Please any pro out there help us?

what is this error mean?

Hello, I was bored bc of hot weather and I thought to make an operation on my old GT-P1000 because its sim card module didn't work with a simcard which can work other phones and other sim cards are working on p1000. I thought there is a problem bc of custom Rom. Than worked on few roms. And now, I m getting this warning pic and can not open tab as download mode or recovery mode. Let's solve it together. Thanks.

[HELP] i9305 Bootlooping and ODIN Stock firmware fails

Hi All,
I'm looking to fix this S3 from this boot loop problem. It ended up in this problem from use, not by firmware changing.
ODIN Fails almost immediately when trying to Flash.

I've used the Firmware file name: I9305XXUFNI3_I9305DBTFNI3_DBT from a XDA forum page
This was running Stock Firmware (Grey Import) with root via Framaroot. No Custom Recovery or any Custom changes like Radio firmware).
Before my replacement phone arrive, I had a very similar problem one day and I attempted to do an ODIN Firmware flash to recover, it failed to flash then also but must have done something because my phone continued to work for another 3 months.
I have recovered everything I needed during this time but now I want to get this phone working again.
I can't see anything physically wrong with the phone and there isn't any water damage. I disassembled / re-assembled to check for any internal damage.
Please guide me where I should proceed from here.
