[Q] "Toolbox not found" message - Captivate Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I have been working on an application to shut my sons media player only captivate down which is running a 2.2 rom. My Fusion phone will shutdown if I do a "reboot -p" command but hte version of "reboot" on his phone in /bin doesnt take that parameter so I tried copying my copy of "reboot" onto his phone as "reboot23" but when I try to execute it I receive "toolbox not found". His phone is rooted so is there another file I need to get it to work?

You may want to try using the "busybox installer" from the market and reinstall the newest version of busybox. Unless I'm totally off base, that should correct the issue.

I can't say for certain, but my guess is that the differences in the binaries for Froyo and Gingerbread may be the issue here (and maybe that's a "well duh" thing to say).
If it works on your phone, why not put him on the same rom as you are (Fusion, it appears), pull the items that make it into a media player, and go from there? Obviously there's some work there, and I don't know your situation, but it's another option to consider.

His phone is a media player only (ie no sim card) and I dont want him to have issues with it complaining about that.

Toolbox commands are tied into the rom as sim links..
Look at the updater-script for fusion. (Useing notepad ++)
Next find your sons reboot command.
Following the examples from fusion create a toolbox reboot simlink.
See if that will do it.
BTW. No sim to use or no space for sim

AUDIOHACK v1.2 LITE VERSION - V5 UPDATE!!!

Just to make this clear.
A custom build is ESSENTIAL as most now come with BusyBox installed which is VITAL to this app pushing the files. If you don't have a custom build and/or Busybox, don't bother downloading.
This Lite version now only allows you to push V2 or Stock and then push the Headphone Boost (aka v5_r2). the Backup option is unavaliable, along with V1 and V3.
also, it isn't fully finished, theres a few things i need to clean up (like the changelog button that doesn't do anything ).
cheers to everyone who helped, and criticism is welcome
thanks guys.
HOW TO INSTALL: download file to Desktop or whereever > remove '.zip' extension > plug phone into computer > open cmd and type: 'adb install Desktop/AUDIOHACK_LITE.apk.
or, again, remove the '.zip' extension, install 'appsinstaller' or something similar from the android market, stick the AUDIOHACK_LITE.apk on your sdcard and install with appsinstaller.
enjoy!
Well if you're still running commands in your app through terminal type settings why not just do
cp res/raw/blah.file system/etc/blah.file
in a console/terminal mode?
edit:
figured it out! changing first post.
What is it?
I agree. Please tell us what the app does or add source code. Thanks.
so is the app working now?
does this work? can anyone let me know please
what do it do make audio volume louder or what
It lets you adjust the maximum volume past stock levels. =]
Running DDMS, it doesn't look like its pushing anything to /system/etc. Also, using the suggestion of playing music while changing changing versions (to hear the sounds difference) doesn't work either. So I'm assuming the app is: 1) not pushing the files properly 2) not executing killall mediaserver
EDIT: selecting V1 then pressing Push works. It seems to push AudioPara_TMUS.csv , AudioFilter.csv and AudioPreProcess.csv to /system/etc, and execute killall mediaserver. However, V2, V3, and Stock don't appear to do anything.
pretty sure it's working fine now guys
and v2 and 3 wont have done anything because it was just a 'lite' version, like this one
I have an ADP, so I have root. However, I do not have/use busybox for anything, so I cannot use this app.

nope 'fraid not.
i'm working on a version where you wont need busybox, but for now it is neccessary.
just out of curiosity, has anyone got this LITE version working?
it's had 19 downloads and no feedback
Does this also bump up the volume thru bluetooth or is it just thru the jack and speaker?

Yes you CAN as long as u have root
Just download zip to computer then connect phone mount usb. Send file to sdcard. Disconnect phone from pc. Open aFile rename/remove the .zip so it reads Audio_Hack.apk and install. DONE!
How do I test this if I already have V2 installed?
Oh, Meltus, go kick TheDude in the butt and tell him the volume mod in his build doesn't work anymore

no, the commands that push the files to the sdcard and then onto the phone are "busybox mv blahblah blahblah". doesn't work without the busybox i'm afraid.
and lukekirstein, you can install it and test it by pushing the stock version with the app, then going back to V2 with the app.
It has also, pretty much been confirmed working now as long as you have a custom build with busybox.

well, you have a custom rom which most likely has busybox built in.
try typing 'busybox' at the terminal and see what happens. if you get lots of info, then it is installed.

For some reason only the system sounds are louder not when I'm playing MP3 via the head set... Any reason for that?

Does this update.zip exist?

I posted my predicament in the General forum about my PC frying my Captivate.
Well to sum it up, my pc has been frying usb devices left and right. Mainly it is killing the usb chipset controllers on the devices. This now means my phone can no longer mount to my pc in any way. If I plug it in, I get an immediate "usb device not recognized."
I want to take this to AT&T and see if they can do anything, but of course my phone is rooted and has the bloatware removed.
Since I can't get my phone connected to my pc in any way, I obviously can't use Odin to reflash my phone to stock and I can't use One-Click to unroot either.
Is there any update.zip file out there that will reinstall the att bloatware and get rid of root/superuser? I don't have any hacked firmware or custom roms on my phone as all I did was root and get rid of the att apps.
I simply need a way to put the att apps back on my phone and get rid of root/superuser WITHOUT the use of a pc.
Thanks a bunch guys!

Off the top of my head, I see two possibilities.
1) Do it by hand. Find copies of the original apps and install them, then look at what the root update.zip script does and undo it.
2) get someone to make a stock nandroid backup and restore it to your phone.

DG's zip has busybox and superuser included, you need to remove those files first on your pc. If your pc has a card reader you can use it to transfer the file back to your sd card after it's edited.

Use android terminal emulator the same way you would adb to copy the .apk files to /system/app.
Or... you can use es file explorer with system mounted and copy them that way. Then reboot. As for unroot.... Idk what to tell you, I don't have that phone..
Also, I would recommend testing it on another pc. Yours is likely stupid, not frying the usb ports. If this were so, it shouldn't charge either.

The usb ports are 100% frying the chipsets on usb devices. I have a network adapter, a flash drive, external hard drive, and a brand new flash drive that all have a burnt chip after being in the usb for longer than 10 seconds. Most will still power on when plugged into another pc but they just cant interface with the pc's with the chipsets being fried, it has no way to properly communicate.
I've tested my phone and all the fried flash drives on 4 pcs at this point.
since you are still rooted, to reinstall the at&t apps look into wireless adb. it will allow you to push apps over a wifi network.

Oh, god no. My phone and pushing are not a good combination.
Can't connect my phone using ADB.
When I want to start up my pc and my phone is connected, it just freezes at the Splash screne until I pull my phone out. Then it boots normally.
Yeah that's probably because it's odex'd. I don't really remember on wich one I tried. If I'm not mistaken it was on Clemsyn's Final Froyo Build.
Downloaded it somewhere off Megaupload. Got the link from some video on YouTube.
I've managed to odex the updated market, and use Terminal Emulator to transfer it to my /system partition overwriting my original market, and it seems to work. Granted I had a gapps FC at boot, but restarted without a hitch.
So far no other FCs, and Market is fully working. Though not sure how many apps I still have available. :-/

same here on polaris with scoot's Kernel With Separate Cache Partition.
also no dialog to choose between charge only/hard drive/etc when connecting to booted pc via usb.
adb does work though, just make sure the drivers are installed on your pc, connect and wait for >120s before calling "adb wait-for-device". once your prompt reappears you are connected and ready for e.g. "adb shell".
use "adb kill-server" and "adb wait-for-device" when you get disconnected (not exactly stable) - i use WiFi Keyboard and WiFi File Explorer from market instead.

[Q] How to install apks?

Hi,
I'm unable to install sideloaded APKs. This is what I did:
1. Ran the 'NookColor Tools'; checked 'Allow Non-Market Apps'; and rebooted.
2. Copied the apk to SD card (in a new folder My Files > 'Apps').
3. Installed Astro File Manager from the Market.
4. Navigated to the location of the APK; clicked on it; selected 'Open App Manager'.
5. Clicked 'Install'.
Says 'Install Blocked - Installation of downloaded apks is not supported'
I must be doing something wrong, any help would be great!
Thanks
Try unchecking the box for Allow Non-Market Install, reboot, check box, reboot, should work now. I had to do that after autonootering.
Good luck!

I'm unable to uncheck that either. After unchecking, if I re-open NookColor tools either instantly or after rebooting, it remains checked! But still, apps won't install.
I'm in the same boat .. no matter what i can't get that box to stay unchecked
I had the same problem, try unchecking, rebooting, I think it will be checked again then when it reboots just uncheck and recheck it (no reboot). That worked for me. I'm glad too cuz I though I was going to have to go through all that adb bs lol.

I had similar issues after using autonooter from 12/25. After playing with nook tools I gave up unsuccessfully. After a reboot I noticed it was working. For the life of me I can not figure out if the reboot did it or something else but it is working now. I was ready to go back to the old method of manually editing the database using adb.

You shouldn't, I've rebooted a few times and have had no problems.
Here's what i've done to get around this.
Appmonster on my phone. Download and backup the app on my phone.
copy the app onto nook somehow, i use dropbox.
then i use rootexplorer to copy, change from r/o to r/w, paste the apk, and then install it.
So far working well, trillian, amazon, and google reader. Not sure about the potential of installing versions of apps that could brick or screw up the nook.
Laptop not Recognizing Nook after installing ADB
I tried the boot over and over, but it did not work. So I followed the instructions on installing SDK and ADB and was able to install applications. This meant replacing the Nook Driver. I was not able to install the files via the USB cable, but used ADB wireless instead.
Now I can no longer see the Nook when I connect it by USB to my laptop, running Windows 7. I used to see the Nook as my J drive and the SD Card as the K.
I plugged it into my Desktop and and able to see both.
I am guessing this has something to do with the Driver on the Laptop (which I replaced following the instructions in the video). Is there a way that I can get my laptop to see the Nook and the SD card again without losing the ability to install files?
Thanks

[Q] Why Do I get this error "The Parameter is incorrect." Trying to Write to my Phone

[Q] Why Do I get this error "The Parameter is incorrect." Trying to Write to my Phone
I have a brand new Samsung Captivate from Rogers.
I have updated it to 2.2 using kies.
I then did the one click root.
Now when I connect it to my computer I get "The Parameter is incorrect." every time I try to copy a file or make a new directory.
I have formatted the memory from the phone and I can then copy files or make folders temporarily. Until the phone decides that it wants to throw the error again.
I can also run a check disk from my computer with “Automatically Fix system errors" and "scan for and attempt recovery of bad sectors" check. This will also fix the problem temporarily.
So how do I fix the permanently?
This is my first post so please don't flame me to bad.
Thanks in advance.
looks like something wrong in your computer. try to reinstall the usb drivers and switch to another computer to see if it still happens.
I have tried it on my desktop, my laptop and my work desktop.
The problem always reappears.
I am using the driver from the Wiki.
Windows ?????
Windows 7 x64
Parameter is incorrect error:
You need to make sure your drives (SD) are/is formated with FAT32.
This will allow maximum file size of 4Gb.
I have formated fat32 and it has just started getting the error again.
I found this post http://forum.xda-developers.com/archive/index.php/t-907854.html
this is what is happening to me.
Has anyone found a fix?
i had this issue with stock 2.2 rogers.
one time i was able to fix by right clicking the phone in my computer> properties> tools > scan for errors. Found some.
it was also deleting files/songs that i put on the internal sd.
returned the phone. no problem since, but have also been using custom roms since.
This is weird. I had the same problem on an old version of di11igafs rom. It was related to the file vold.fstab which deals with mounting storage. I find it odd that this is happening o a sock rom. If any of you feel so inclined upload your vold.fstab and ill have a look.

If you use root explorer or ASTRO (which is free) to navigate to the root directory of your phone, look for the folder named 'etc' inside that folder should be 2 VOLD files. make a copy of these.
PS: MAKE SURE NOT TO MOVE THEM!!! xD (or delete O: )
So I just got off the phone with samsung and they told me to return the phone to rogers because rogers website is giving the wrong firmware.
Now I do not know if this is true but I would like to fix the problem.
They also said that I can not put the correct 2.2 on as kies will see the wrong 2.2 and not install the correct one.
So now I guess I have no choice
I have attached both of the vold files for you to look at.
I hope someone can come up with a fix as Rogers does not want to change the phone. They are waiting on a fix from Samsung and Samsung says there is no fix coming and that I need to change the phone.
Is there a way to go back to 2.1 Rogers?

use odin 1.7 with
http://dl.dropbox.com/u/19201431/SGH-I896_UXJI2StockRogers2.1.zip
to get back to 2.1 rogers. use the PIT file and RE-Partition. i have been flashing phoenix roms with no problem.
i only had those error problems with stock 2.2 after updating, but to be honest only had the phone less than 1 week between 2.1> 2.2>custom> returned to store. the second phone was on phoenix within 2 hours of getting it.
