Interesting. More information please? Perhaps the developer was doing something contrary to xda rules? Not sure you will get a straight answer on this one though as I would have expected them to lock and rename the thread if they felt the need to justify or explain the cause. By deleting it though, well I get from that anyway, that they would be happy to never speak of it again.

you have been here longer than i am, so i would think that you are supposed to read and use the search functions of this forum than just wait up for answers from other people that may not come at all.
if you are afraid to root, go no further. if you take the risk, then go all the way and test all the available roms and decide which one suits your taste. it's your phone, it's your risk.... do not blame anyone if something bad happens, because if somebody answers your question "which one would you recommend" and somebody does recommend a specific rom, and you BRICKED your phone in the process... you will curse whoever gave you that suggestion.
I found Rocket Rom v22 used with franco v6 kernel very fast and stable. I got my best benchmark scores using this setup.
Now on Midnote ICS and while very smooth it doesn't have the same benchmark scores. (Not that they mean much as it feels quicker in daily use).
To sync FB pics with contacts install FB app then go to settings/accounts and sync, add FB account. It will ask you what to sync eg all contacts etc

if u r brave enough ... try rocket rom ics beta v1.5.. but be very careful while flashing.. u need to be fully rooted. If you would like to stick to gingerbread go with chechrom v5

I won't suggest you flash ics rom as the procedures are much more complicated than flashing a gingerbread rom.

So, I'm new to Galaxy S. Need Help :)

Hi guys,
I own a Galaxy S i9000 mobile.
It's running on :
Android 2.3.3
Baseband : DXJV9
I have not rooted it or did anything till now.
I wanna flash ICS AOKP on my mobile..
I have tried using the search option but still im soo deserted.
Can you guys guide me on how to root, flash CWM recovery, and flash ICS please ?
and Does Galaxy S supports ROM Manager ? coz i've been using Galaxy Ace before and it didn't support it..
Thanks a lot
For Root read this.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=788108
You need to download file ending in JVP. Usually you want the one ending with last 3 digits of your baseband but as there is no JV9 JVP is close enough and is reported as working. Besides it does not really matter as you just need this for root.
Once you have root you can simply follow the guide in the AOKP thread...
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1524108
I know you have stated you want AOKP but if you want a bullet proof simple way to get this all done start with this thread for Team ICSSGS.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1494493
I usually like to make sure I have all necessary files, roms & programmes before starting so if anything goes wrong I can get my phone working again. This tutorial will help you with that also.
After following all of this you should have a good understanding of what to do and then you can flash AOKP as their instructions are kind of limited.
Also when choosing an ICS Rom this is a great thread with regards to performance.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1554621
AOKP is a wonderful choice.
But if I can give you an advice, wait for the next Milestone which is expected to be released over the next few days

Thank you soo much for your help bro
That link for flashing Team ICSSGS has help for everything else. From downloading stock rom to flashing with Odin to flashing ics (in this case team icssgs)
You could potential substitute Team ICSSGS for AOKP.
I got another question..
does Semaphore ICS kernel works on my baseband (i.e - DXJV9) ?
Will do. My favourite.

Great
and finally, Which version of the kernel should i use for official AOKP b34? 1.1.0 or 1.1.0s?
Not sure but both should work. 1.0.1s is for slim ics and other roms. If it is not compatible it will break 720 video recording & playback otherwise eveything else should work. There is also a video patch somewhere.

Alright..I've flashed AOKP b34 and Semaphore 1.1.0s
Everything seems to be fine
But now my sdcard is mounted as internal storage and the actual internal storage is mounted as sdcard..is this a bug or what ?
Even when I connect my phone to my PC using USB,only the actual internal storage (which is mounted as SDcard shows up..
I personally haven't 1.1.0 only 1.0.1sbm with slim ics. I think the 1.1.0 is still a test version for cm9 but could be wrong. Things may have updated since i last looked but i recommend reading the semaphore thread and posting there for more help.

Known bug in Semaphore. Make sure you enable the 'Netfilter' module in the app. When it randomly doesn't work, which is the bug, simply check and uncheck it 2 times and it will work.

[Q] Would like to hear your opinion

Hello guys, I'm thinking bout flashing a ICS rom to my GT-N7000, I'm thinking about trying a few, so far I've donwloaded CriskeloRomNOTE.vICS-V2 and ROMOW_V1_ICS_GT-N7000.
ATM I'm just reading how to flash them so I don't screw things up, but I'd like to hear which one you recommend?, any others I should try? (I kind of like the S-pen functions)
BTW, my note its properly rooted and with CWM. So if any of you have any advice, I'd like to hear it.
Regards from Venezuela.
I'm using ICS stunner which works really well for me..
I've tested Alba LP6, Team Rocket ROM, Liquid,Imilka CM9 and now Criskelo V2 whit LP6 modem and I'm very pleased whit its performance and battery life is good enough I really recommended its use as daily ROM, I'm very happy with my Note its the best phone I've ever have.

ROMOW hasn't had any development or updates for quite some time now.
So, if you're dead set on choosing between the two, go for Criskelo.
BTW, I'm running Stunner like most of the guys who posted here.
It's a fantastic Rom.
Hey guys, thanks for your comments. Maybe I'll go with stunner. It does look quite good.
This brings me to another question. Almost all ICS roms instalation guides tells you to flash I9220LP1-N7000-ICS-REPACK and the rom later, yet I saw a guide here that explains this won't be necessary if you flash AbyssKernel.
Based on your experiences, what would you recommend as the safest way to flash any ICS rom?
Again thanks for your answers.

Neither is very safe, heh.
But that's part of the fun.
There are always things that can go wrong, especially if you are not extra-careful when following the flashing steps.

The dangers of flashing non captivate ROMs

Hey guys, I have a question for you wise devs, it comes with a bit of a background story. Basically favorite ROM dropped support for my phone, now they only support the i9000, I have an i897. I am going to try to port. I want to be ready for a worst case scenario: say I screwed up the port, framework is incompatible, what would happen? Are the two phones similar enough that I could still get to download mode, or is a hard brick certain?
Fyi: I am using a guide from a trusted source i found here on xda, I can post link if you want thanks greatly appreciated

If u port something. Please port 4.1 jelly bean b5 gnex stock rom of elitemovil
Well if you didn't port it properly you might get some apps that will Force Close and that also your soft keys might not work properly etc....
Also there is not risk of getting hard brick.
P.S.: If you're porting a ROM, please port it for your self only!

Great thanks! Yeah no way am I putting anybody's phone at risk haha, I just want to get to know the porting process and the folks at darkyrom are completely ok with me trying and so I'm gonna give it a shot, again thank you! Question though: if I get good enough at it and can provide updates and support and the devs at darkyrom are ok with it, how do I go about making the port public? Are there people's permissions I need? Thanks again=)
