Ok, I was at the stock Froyo 2.2 update yesterday and saw 2.3.5 GB and installed using ODIN. There's a couple of aggravating features, mainly every time I plug in via usb or AC, the tethering process crashes. I don't even use tethering and don't know how to disable this process.
Anyways, all I want to do is return to the stock AT&T froyo. I've tried several one click packages for ODIN to return to stock, I CAN get into download mode, but once its plugged into the PC it says its installing device drivers, then it always fails. I tell Windows to search, and of course it can't find any.
How can I get this to work again, all I want is my 2.2 back

How important is it to actually have Kies recognize your phone? I recently upgraded Kies to the latest version and now it doesnt recognize my phone at all. Instead of tinkering with this issue for hours, I'm wondering whether its even worth it?
Suppose 2.2 comes out, couldn't we just use Odin to flash the phone with the new firmware?
Also, looks like there's a workaround to getting the Kies firmware upgrade WITHOUT actually having Kies recognize your phone! http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=758429
Thoughts?
you don't really need Kies at all
i only use it to check for official new ROM release, that's all
for everything else i sync with my gmail account and via AppBrain
Hi,
I've installed the lates Kies (1.5.3.10093_80) and have three problems:
1) When i try to update Kies to 81 release it doesn't want to find any updates. I tried two ways: from Kies application and manually start MCS.Thunder.Update.exe. From Kies it never finds any updates and MCS.Thunder.Update.exe crashes after some time before it find anything to update
2) Phone connects to the PC fine and i can see it in Kies, but i can't do anything, browse contacts or calendar. When i try to save contacts on PC i receive "The device is in use. Stop using the device then try again". I tried to find any application on PC which can use it without any success.
3) On home notebook Kies finds phone OK but at work it is endlessly says: Connecting to the phone. I've already tried to change COM port number, settings for USB connection ... nothing helps.
Any ideas?
PS All device drivers seems to be installed OK
I have exactly the same problem as you mentioned under point 2. Same holds for the agenda by the way.
I just updated to 93-81 (automatically via KIES)
Does anyone have a solution?
Me too having this problem...
Same issues for me. I've just discovered Android Manager Wifi which gives all we need to save and restore contacts. Nice to use until Kies issues are resolved.
All of these issues are well known and almost everyone is having them. There was a standalone massive thread about Samsung Kies and its issues, but I can't find it. You need to get used to it - usually im my case the Mass Storage is activated after restarting my phone. As I use tethering rather often, I usually have to try connecting and disconnecting the phone several times until I'm lucky.
When it comes to Kies update itself, that is another disaster - I usually try it on different networks - if it can't find updates at home and I know there is one, I just go and try it at the university wifi. The same with firmware updates, etc.
I undo the oneclick lag fix v 2.1.2 by ryanza and it works like a charm now
thnak you very much nick_goh!
Thats was it. Undo OCLF and Kies starts working as it should.
Lagfix is the problem
Yes, the lagfix is the problem, but who can fix the lag fix or the kies!?
laffix
What if you are experiencing that same "Device is in use" issue but did NOT ever install the lagfix ?
Unless theres something that went on in rooting your phone as that is the only non-factory thing that I ever did!
I already installed several apps to try to find the culprit that might be causing this but no luck. I'm almost considering going back to factory and re-installing all samsung updates from scratch on. ....unless there is another way
Hi Everyone!
I need a bit of help here.
My samsung galaxy s running froyo ( Baseband version - I90000XXJPP; Kernel version - 2.6.32.9 root (at) sep-35 # 1; Build - FROYO.XXJPO ) and I've been trying to connect it to kies, so I can keep up with the official updates. However, I've been trying for a week now and nothing. I get message saying connected to kies on the phone but on kies itself it gets stuck on "connecting" .
I'm at a loss on what to do here. Can anyone help?
Also, I was hoping to find out if, from the above info on my phone) can you tell that my phone has been rooted at some point???
Thanks in advance to everyone, looking forward to reading all your replies!
hello,
I have found that with every update to Kies, before I can get my phone to connect, I have to first set my phone to USB Mass Storage, connect to PC and wait for Kies to tell me to change phone settings to Samsung Kies, at which time I disconnect phone from PC (disconnect properly by ejecting from the system tray to prevent corruption of SDcard), change settings on phone to connect using Samsung Kies, then reconnect phone to PC with Kies running....works every time for me.
Its a bit of a pain, but its been the only way that I can consistently get it to connect to Kies...hope it helps for u!

Thanks for the suggestion but I tried it and it's a no go! Still stuck on "connecting"
Hi, what worked for me is that i had to unmount both my internal sd and external sd, that was the only way i could get it to connect, but in doing that you cant actually use kies for anything other than updating firmware as i said it worked for me but it may not work for all i dont know.
Good luck

it's hard to figure out the solutions as I've encountered this prob b4 also...after numerous times trying to install various Samsung USB drivers and Kies versions, I managed to get it connected to Kies and upgrade it to Froyo, but it ends up with my SGS bricked...so then, I flash with Odin with 2.2.1 android version and after many failures to get connected with my comp, I managed to get I9000XXJPU into my SGS...my advice, just try your luck connecting your SGS with your comp...check the problems occurred when the comp trying to install your SGS and install the missing drivers...
I have the SGS GT-I9000M from Bell, was running Froyo 2.2
Decided today to dabble around with rooting and roms.
Followed all the directions to installed Darky's v9.2 Extreme Edition w/ Voodoo 5.4.1 kernel.
Everything went flawlessly and everything runs slick. Except for one small issue.
Now I seem to be losing network connectivity. Sometimes it will remain on "Bell", other times it will just display "No Service" or "Emergency Calls Only".
Have I missed something or done something incorrectly?
Any insight on this would be great.
Thanks in advance.
Also, is there a way to revert back to stock 2.2 if necessary?
Revert to stock via Odin
Darky problems check Darkys posts and FAQS .
jje
Tried and failed.
Went through every Darky's post I could find and can't seem to see anything like this being mentioned.
I even tried the Resurrection version, now my phone is a brick.
Does nothing but reboot over and over at the start.
Can't get into Recovery, only Download mode..
Suggestions?
Go to sam firmware.com download the android version 2.1 update 1 ughj2 or whatever its called. when its done downloading put your phone in download mode but first open up odin. select 512 pit and check repartion. Choose the firmware as pda and connect your phone to the computer and press start wait until odin finish flashing it and comeback and tell us what happened
I was able to get the phone working again, pretty much what you just said.. but with 2.2
Only issue is now I have no data network connectivity.
Zero options for it in the settings, and I've even called my cell provider..
They keep telling me to wait a few minutes and it will reconnect..
It's been a few hours..
Hey guys I been having a huge problem with my Samsung Galaxy S 1900M its currently locked with Bell/Virgin Canada. I bought it off of some 2nd hand company. The phone was sold as is saying that it was unable to connect to the computer, (computer does not recognize it at ALL). I bought the phone amusing it was a ROM load problem. It came to me rooted and in almost perfect condition so I was quite happy with my purchase considering I paid $180 USD ($170 CAD). I tried connecting to the computer using the USB that came with the phone, and as stated it does not recognize it at all on ANY Windows/Linux base PCs. I also have another Samsung USB cable that I know works, I tired that as well...no success.
So I am assuming who ever loaded a ROM did not know what they were doing. So I have been searching all over the internet/google, XDA forums and Q&A and everyone point to loading a new kernal....BUT here is where it gets weird. Who ever had this phone previous did not flash a new kernal when updating and put the 3e recovery on the phone, WHICH MEANS I cannot flash any new: Kernals, OR ROMS using the CWM, which btw I am pretty sure isn't working properly because it goes into the base recovery mode with limited options, ex. reboot, sdcard update.zip, wipe cashe, format sdcard...nothing else.
Which brings us back to the original problem, I can not connect to the PC for ODIN to work its magic on the kernal....Please help....
Here is the current load,
Firmware Version: 2.2
Baseband: 19000UGJK4
Kernal Version: 2.6.32.9 shout.leeSEP-09 #1 ( I have never heard of this?)
Build: FROYO.UGJK4
may be a issue with drivers dont quote me though, i had to update drivers after flashing and updateing my galaxy s, as i had simular issue with odin, by not reconize, do you mean windows wont even detect the phone added, or is it connect and nothing? does the phone charge when connected to the pc ?
The phone does charge, but even with the Samsun Keis app, and having the proper Sumsung drivers it still wont even detect the phone. I even went to Device Manager and searched for new hardware/device. I also tried putting it into download mode, and connecting Odin. Windows still wont even detect it. I think its a problem with the kernal....for both issues...
Fixed the problem, hope this helps for others.
Just following up on this as I figured out what to do on my own in case anyone else has this issue.
It was quite simple actually, the kernal was faulty, and so was the ROM that was loaded just as I anticipated
1st:The person that previously owned the phone loaded FROYO custom build that was taken from a leaked version prior to the official release and had no USB support, therefore being unable to connect to the computer.
2nd: The kernal was a custom build and had a 3e recovery built into it and was not able to load any un-verified files(unofficial ROMS, firmwares, updates etc.), therefore I was not able to load a new ROM to fix the first problem, stated above, and visa versa.
I found a program on the market place called "kernal manager", I downloaded the PRO version by searching Google on the computer for the .apk file, I then copied the .apk file onto my external 2 GB SD card and ran the .apk file through the phone. I then opened "kernal manger pro" and opened the menu button, then hit search for kernals. A list of different models of phones came up, I browsed down to my handset maodel (Samsung Galaxy s 19000), press on it, and got a list of kernals. I took each top rated and downloaded kernal listed, did a little research on the internet and found one of them to be suitable. I then went back to the phone chose that kernal through "kernal manager", it asked me to flash then reboot, I hit yes, it then begun the process, and when finished reboot on its own. I then reboot into recovery again after the kernal had loaded and the first reboot and found that the new kernal had succsefully been flashed. I then was able to go about as I please. I uploaded a cm7.zip file to the external sd card, put it in the phone, boot to recovery browsed to the file, and ran it having complete success.
I am now happily running Cyanogen 7. Hope this helps anyone that needs it. Any questions just ask
