[Q] Should I buy the phone? Are there sound quality issues? - LG Optimus 2x

I want to buy the o2x phone, but I have read a few old reviews about possible low sound quality and crackling voices.. further more people report bad sound quality comming out of 3.5 mm jack.
Do these problems still exist? have anyone here encountered them & fixed them?
thx ahead :]

Save yourself alot of trouble, an get a galaxy nexus

galaxy nexus costs more than double of o2x price where I live..
what problems have you encountered with your phone?

3.5mm is fine.. some crackles occasionally when you turn on phone, but actual music playback is great.
Speaker is loud enough to hear you have a phone call or whatever. Quality of it is okay.
Dont buy if you're going to use stock firmware. This phone is for those who like to flash roms. Cm7 is 11ty times better.

Actually, the latest version (20L) is pretty good on stock. And it brings sound improvements, too. Of course that you can always extract more from phone going custom, but in my opinion with this latest update it is not a must like before.
And phone offers nice ratio between investment and earnings.

yes its a good phone. and it will get voodoo sound so the sound quality will be mush better

actually the sound output aint quite that good , n its pretty low compared to lots of other phones out there , cant always rely on ringing alone n you may actually miss a call if the phone is in your pocket and if you are in a not so quite environment
but the quality through the 3.5mm is pretty good

We have maxed out li-ion technology, the only affordable way to get more power is with a bigger, heavier battery. 1500mah is about the same all other phones have.

Exactly said. I am using a china made bluetooth handsfree ( cheap non-branded ) occasionally while driving.
Ok thnx to both of you guys, so it is good? I mean sound quality, battery life [in both device]... an overall, is good for driving&calling but not exactly for playing music...
I've never used one so I don't know anything, appreciate all your post thnx!

Yup, Bluetooth handsfree are useful only while driving or during work when you dont want to hold mobile in hand. But for music, it won't serve you much quality. You can of course listen the music though.. and trust me, even buying any costly piece also wont give you any excellent music quality as much as any decent 3.5 Jack can give.
Now about the battery life, well Bluetooth in my opinion doesn't cost much power. I use for about half an hour while driving and battery drops just near 5-7% or so if no call received, and about 1% per 3-4 minutes during a call. I mean you are using it for a purpose, so battery drain is justified. Buy a one only if you need to use it while driving it work and not for musicw.
yep I thougth so, 5~7% and ~1% is fair enough batt consumption, I found it useful in a city like Tijuana, where almost any drive takes you half an hour at least and people doesn't care about speed limits [police do but people don't ]
I use old Blueant X5 stereo headset and works a treat with CM7.
Battery still lasts 7-8 hours on music playback or 12 on phone call.

Official Sound Quality Thread

Anyone have experience with the S4 Pro audio chip? As far as I know, Qualcomm uses there own DAC, not a Wolfson or Yamaha. Lets hear your thoughts!
This is the one thing that makes or breaks a phone, does any other phone with an S4 processor use the DAC used in the N4?
I hope that the n4 sounds pretty good. It's really necessary for me

Couldn't agree more. I have the i9300 right now, and while the audio quality is good, the volume from the headphone jack is weak. Seems like I constantly have the volume at least 3/4 when out in public to hear my music.
Assuming the DAC in the S4 pro is the same as (or better than) the one in the standard S4, this article puts it on par with the wolfson: http://www.androidpolice.com/2012/0...ne-x-isnt-amazing-at-all-even-by-the-numbers/

Wait, you're selling your S3 because of the audio. Am I right in saying the only other device to give better sounding audio is the Galaxy S1?

my brother has the original galaxy great sound every time it rings or plays music it,s fantastic i gave it to him so i can by the S3 and now i F*** envy him......... best Galaxy ever............... if u owned G-nexus how is the audio on it compare to GS1
if the Nexus 4 audio is the same as Optimus G, then here ya go straight from GSMArena.com:
"...the LG Optimus G with some of the cleanest output we have seen. The below average volume levels aside, the Optimus G results came out excellent in the first part of our test. When connected to an active external amplifier, the smartphone produces excellently clean output with no weak points whatsoever."
for more details around the sound test, go here and scroll down to the "Audio output is nicely clean, if somewhat quiet" section.
dynamic range and noise leave something to be desired. i think all this means is that the device doesnt go very loud. they probably capped the volume in favor of low THD
Can't be any worse then the GS3. MY i9300 volume is weak.

comparison GSMArena did between SGS3 and the Optimus G:
"Both the Samsung Galaxy S III and the LG Optimus G posted some excellent scores in our audio quality test. The Galaxy S III output is generally a bit cleaner, but the difference is a bit hard to detect with a naked ear. The two are also quite evenly matched, when it comes to volume levels too - sadly neither of them is particularly impressive in that aspect. If we had to pick we'd give the Galaxy S III the win here, but no matter which one you choose, you'd be getting pretty good audio output."
http://www.gsmarena.com/lg_optimus_g_vs_samsung_galaxy_s_iii-review-838p8.php
Having used Voodoo Sound from day one of release until now, and as a sound tinkering audiophile, what I would need most is basically the equivalent to voodoo louder, ability to amp it up and down since if that's used well it doubles clarity and soundstage by getting the perfect output which matches your cans.

Nexus 4 I believe is a mindblowing handset.
Only doubt I have is about the audio-quality.
I'm in between the Iphone5, HTC One X+ and the N4.
http://www.engadget.com/2012/10/02/iphone-vs-rivals-audio-tests/
What do you think, the quality could be somewhere near the good tested devices from engadget?
Whatever the Galaxy S1 line had they need to use that mixed with voodoo sound control simply amazing

Not loud locales, normal shopping center environments. That's with Klipshe S4 headphones that do a decent job of blocking out sound too. Even the S2 was better at volume from the headphone jack.

Get the LG Tone+ HBS-730, search on amazon (I can't post links yet.). I have the first generation of the LG Tone HBS-700 the sound quality is alright if you aren't an audiophile. I've read that the sound quality is better in the 730s. The style of these make them perfect to wear under a collared shirt. I use them everyday and get about 3-5 days worth of listening between charges. The headset even vibrates when you get a call.
I have the Sony MW600. LINK. I love them. The majority of the time I only want to keep one ear bud in, and with these I can do that. You can also use any kind of headphones with them.
I had the Plantronics BB903+'s. I thought their sound quality was really good, and I was all excited to use them with my phone when I go mountain biking. I got so insanely frustrated with the sound cutting out every now and then that I stopped using them. A day later, my dog ate them. Eh, whatever. :good:
As I read around through reviews of other comparable bluetooth headsets I can't help but to question that perhaps audio skipping is somewhat common. As a result, I've personally chosen to stick to traditional headphones. That being said, I'm super curious if anybody has experience with bluetooth headphones that DON'T cut out at all. Eh?
i love my jaybird freedoms. the only thing that is even remotely annoying about them is they charge with a mini usb, other than that, they're light, have great sound and super comfortable. before that i tried a pair of moto ones that were just an all 'round unpleasant experience.
Thanks for suggestions guys, will mull it over

I have both of those units. The trade off is; HBS-700 ok sound, but long BT range (25ft) vs. HBS-730 better sound, but short BT range (10ft).
Sony Ericsson MW600 user here as well. I love that lil sucker. I use my Shure SE215's (clear) and any headsets I can muster like my Sol Republic Amps HD or Sol Republic Ultra's or whatever you have and like. I was looking at those but they were a bit out of my price range
I got my MM 100's in today, and I'm impressed. Very clear audio for something this size, as expected from Sennheiser. They feel a bit cheap but I think that's more in the interest of making them light rather than saving money. I don't think they're worth the retail price ($150 ), but I got mine factory refurbished from a seller on amazon for around $40 and they came looking brand new, in refurb packaging of course.
Since I paired these with my phone first I tried call quality, and nobody had any issues understanding me.
EDIT: After some more listening it seems these headphones are lacking in bass... not that there isn't enough volume, but it is literally cutting out frequencies.
I hava nokia bh214 stereo bluetooth ,it's perfect for music & talk
I use the Sony Ericsson MW600, great batterytime, you can use whatever headphones you want and now it's almost for free.
Bought the Sony WS1, little on the expensive side but have alot of functions, same as the MW600 you can use other headphones but the ones that comes with are exellent, SD-slot only drawback is the batterytime...
I use a set of Motorola SF600's and a Plantronics M155 (for single ear A2DP goodness while hiking).
My thoughts on the SF600 are far different than moth peoples, apparently. I love them. I have had zero issues with them, and I am tough on them. They sound PHENOMENAL and the range is incredible. They also support Apt-X, but since the Nexus 7 doesn't, that isn't really a concern. Apt-X is awesome though.
The Plantronics is... OK. It rattles at high volume, and is generally annoying, but its great for the group hikes I go on (for when I am tired of hearing people whine and blabber on ) and it is really good for listening to music in the office.

The reviews that I read about the 730's were that they were a downgrade. Owners of the 700 and the 730 said to not get the 730.
They also said that more than 5' away or loss of line of sight caused the 730s to drop out.

Sony MH-EX300AP- Hit or Miss??!!

Hi all, the Z and ZL comes with a MH-EX300AP range of Earphones. Sony claims that it handles rich bass and is a premium one designed exclusively for the Z and ZL. Does it proves what Sony claims? My opinion is that it gives a respectful and a decent job compared to many stock ones provided! But what do you guys think? Do you use them or have a separate buds/cans? Post your opinions below. If you have been using the stock ones, tell us how do you feel and how it's performance were according to you, was it up to your expected mark and such. You can also mention some great earphone-headphone combos that goes with the Z/ZL well and which you've been using.:good:
BTW I am using my Klipsch Image S4 with Z, they literally rock with walkman!
This might help someone who are in the lookout for decent pair of buds/cans for Z/ZL
i just bought mw1 bluetooth wireless headset pro and I'm loving it....
headset is really good loud music volume and good basses !! also it shows sms on its screen and reads if want to hear, also I can read titles of my mails from heatsets screen too. and one more thing that you can do is to see calls log list of your device and call anyone from that list without touching the phone
now I don't need to open my phones flaps at all I have charging dock and if I want to upload some files to phone I just use airdroid and works like a charm.
Sound is great when they are in but The buds aren't working for me I can barely move with them in so I'm getting some over the ear NFC ones next month.

Yes they are, in India Sony gave up a cheap pair of Headphones which don't actually sound at all when compared to the one given in UK! So when compared to those and those stock ones which came with my arc, these sound better must admit. Lack of volume button is a glaring omission though!

They are excellent for bundled headphones, but they are so unbelievably quiet.
I find them crackly/distorted and way too quiet, but they do have good bass if not overpowering bass. Sticking with my Shure buds though, better clarity

They are quite though, but they never sounded distorted to me!
I made a little comparison with my other 3 sets . I'm using pureXaudio v4, with Noozxoide musicFX ,
MH-EX300AP
They're not bad , actually very nice to listen to , but way too quiet. I find them comfortable to wear ,and good fit if i switch left-right HP, and lead the cables behind my ears. Bass is ok, nothing special, but atleast it's not overpowering the higher frequencies . MIdrange is the best part of them i would say. They don't respond that well when changing settings in noozxoide mfx. You can't hear much difference between effects
Sennheiser CX300-II
If you're in search for relativly cheap upgrade from stock sony one's, i wound say this is a way to go. Loud enough ,out of the box they are to "boomy", but by clicking the "soft clipping compressor" option in Nmfx gets them similar sounding to sony one's , but with much better bass response. You do get clearer sound in sony mx-ex300ap.. Those of you that are bass hungry would be very satistifed with them .
NCredible NErgy by Monster
Complete opposite to CX300-II,and much louder that ex300ap. . Bass is not their strong side(better that sony thought),, but voices are a real joy listening to. If your into rock and easy listening , these one are for you . Downside ? Pricey and you'll often find yourself dialing down the treble .
Sennheiser IE80
You can't really compare them to the others ,cause they can sound like whatever headphones you would like them to be , Louder than any IEM's i have ever tried , and even thought the bass is stronger than on cx300, it's not overwhelming ,and you can always hear vocals and background stuff loud and clear .(oh ,and the price bit, but i got them for like 300$, so i don't regret any $ spend . So ,if you really want to change your experience on listening to the music on portable devices, get one of these if you find a good deal
They might not be the best but they're certainly the best earphones I've ever got bundled with a phone. For me there's is no need to change them as they satisfy my needs perfectly. Period.
PS. I am going to buy SBH20 bluetooth headset and use EX300AP with it though.

They range on ebay from 350$-500$, but i would rather look up for them is some local store, and get extended warranty if possible .I have 5years on mine I got IE80 after 2 warranty claims on ie8 in short time(they were discontinued) . Those happened while i was having nokia e72, so i think there was something really wrong with output connection on nokia, as they also messed up another pair of cx300. 3 years ago this headphones were much cheaper (almost 200$), so that's the reason i got mine for under 300$.

Search Google for head-fi forums/audiophile forums . They have threads with comparisons and testing. I have read ( dont remb which forum) a thread in which they compared about 100-200 heads/in ears ranging from cheep china ones to akg's 1800$ kid!!! . Seriously most of the stock in ears that comes with phones lacks the juice. I own 3 headphones and 5 in ears. And none of them are stocks that comes with phones. I also have a beats in ear which comes with htc( i think its a over rated adv) . And a nokia in ear ( i re-wired it to suit my htc/computer. I use it for sleeping coz its flat cable is much more stronger , and wont break easily if i sleep over it.. , also it sounds enough for its price). A samsung one( broken cable), an old Sony Ericsson hpm 70( my fav one at that time, still i keep them). Enough story!
My fave is xba 4 sony . Cost almost 8000 Indian rupee!!! ( lol that was a tight one for some fresh engineer, it was about ⅓ of my salary!!!) . And i earned my passion for now, future plan is an AKG with a tube amp for it.

I was shocked when I learned that these headphones doesn't have volume controls !!
After doing some search I found that there's no standard for volume controls, so headphones should be design for specific devices only.. there's no standard even between Android devices from different companies, IE Samsung headphones volume controls does not work on Sony mobile phones and so on ( I've checked Note 2 headphones on Xperia S, audio is okay, answer key is working but not volume keys )...
I think that's why Sony is not thinking seriously with these volume keys even for a good bundled headphones like these... but this problem should not stop them I think it will be better to use Apple standards as Sony already have some products that are iPhone compatible and in the same time there's a huge market of headphones that are made for iProducts, they just need to support it in their devices.. unless there's some legal things and if Apple want some licensing thing for such silly thing then no... but if there's nothing then what ever is popular is good
The only thing I can think that will be compatible with all devices is to use a stereo bluetooth headset...

Sony DR-BTN200

I tried the search engine but couldn't find posts or threads about it. Is there anyone who owns this headphone? And if yes, could you give me some info about your satisfaction level.. I'm looking for some decent, not overpriced wireless headphones (hate to open the flaps all the time) and those are on top of my list, just hoping someone has them already and could give some feedback, thanks in advance.

I haven't tested that, but I've been using Motorola S305 for the last two years without any problem. I'm really happy with them

All the XZs bought in singapore under a telecom contract got this as freebie , and its amazing, interms of quality of sound and durablity ,. this is by far the best in clarity compared to the stock , and has a very good battery life ... and the NFC capablity makes it easy to pair.. all though white was freely issued , the blacks are more sexy

Hello,
I came across this topic and it make me reconsider the question, SBH-20 or DR-BNT-200?
I'm using headphones 99% of the time. I was thinking that it won't be that bad having it directly Bluetooth( and not over the SBH-20). Because of course, those flaps are a nuisance.
As the days get hotter (around 20 degree C), I came home and sweat quite a lot under my actual cheap headphone. So I I'm wondering if any of you have an experience about this with the Sony one?
And can the build in microphone used on a computer?

I'm using one of these too and they are really good, battery lasts more than a week with about 4-6 hours usage each day.. yes the mic can be used on the computer (bluetooth obviously)...
I wear mine at the gym and running and Sweat has not been an issue so far.

Yeah, that's right, I forgot to turn my brain on ...
Let me tell you... I had both the SBH-20 and DR-BNT-200. If you quailty is one of your concern. Go for SBH-20. it much better. it comes with MH775 earphones. It sounds very good.

Thanks for the tip, but I've already my DR-BTH200. I find the sound good.
You, can not expect that much for this because it's not a high end one. If you want a good wireless headphone, I think the MDR-1RBT is the Sony one for you. But the price... Is not the same
By the way I prefer headphones. And sbh20 is still not available in my country...
Thanks anyway.
