Back and better than ever
The Samsung & LG Ascending Ringtone Remover
DISCLAIMER: USE AT YOUR OWN RISK
BUILT FOR STOCK ROMS (MAY WORK WITH CUSTOM AND THEMED ROMS BUT NO GUARANTEE)
Requirements
Windows XP or 7 ONLY (will not work in linux wine or other linux environments)
Java must be in your path. Type java in a command prompt. If you see help text you're good to go. If not this App won't work.
Root access of course
Ability to follow instructions and pay attention.
How do I use it?
1. Copy the original Phone.apk from your /system/app to the same folder as MODPhoneAPK.exe (*if your ROM is not deodexed copy the Phone.odex and framework folder also.)
2. Run the App and follow the directions.
3. If you selected to create a flashable zip install through recovery if not then push or copy to /system/app. Do not try to install it.
4. If it didn't work for you then flash Original_PhoneAPK.zip to restore your original back the way it was.
5. If your Phone.apk was ODEXED rename Phone.odex in /system/app
That all, it's pretty automatic.
So easy even most NOOB's can do it.

Is there a problem with the apk? What kind of error?
Sent from my Nexus S using xda premium
noise suppression is what we think is the cause of low volume level on the other end when we make call
noise suppression is on by default on phone calls, we have to manually disable it if we don't want it
i tried it, the modded apk doesn't work, i can no longer make any calls
Updating to kk9 solved the issue for me.

KKA Phone.apk modified. OP updated.
Most people are complaining they can't hear me on the other end. Is this the problem noise supression causes?
Yep

It was necessary to remove it when upgrading to the ClockworkMod 3.0 Gingerbread based recovery.
Please switch to Edify scripting (updater-script and update-binary) to create working update zip packages.

So I tried pushing it using Android Commander, set permissions to 644 (default), restarted, but that didn't work either. The ascending thing is still there.
It's not working for me. Am I doing something wrong here, or...?
has anyone actually been able to make a call with the new apk?
Tried, doesn't work. Calling is disabled. Wondering if it's something to do with signing the apk or something? No idea though....

Are you trying to use the noise suppression apk or the ascending ringtone disabled? OP updated with ascending ringtone disabled. Should work now.
I'll re-edit the noise suppression disabled but maybe I have to check the source to get it working.
Tried the new one you uploaded, didn't work either. Ascending thing still there, but making and receiving calls look ok so far.
EDIT: the newest is giving me force closes.

Edit2: eto.homeip.net/Shared/NotionInkHacks/Beastv1.0.zip is the correct link
sorry about that, and thanks. BTW I messing around with the virtual resolution, tried 120, 140, 150, 180. The default is 160. Somethings are thrownoff by resolution change but the lower ones give more stuff on the screen and might look slicker. Would you like to try it out?
3g won't work with the phone.apk change, will it?
I dont have 3g to check. Maybe someone else knows, I'm also gonna make a version specifically for 3g/calling, but might take me a day or two

Haven't tried any LCD density changes. The text and headers in my daily RSS/news apps are nearly perfect, I wouldn't want to mess them up. I'll try it out some time tomorrow.
So far the ROM is pretty solid, no irritating bugs and I just love the normal status bar!!
Just flashed this to my Adam LCD looks very good so far. many thanks to josh4trunks!!

Yeah, wasn't up there earlier. The compass is buggy all over, in the stock NI kernel it doesnt face north or is buggy. In the Utopia Kernel the compass isnt recognized, might need to add the driver/firmware
Thank you for this, I really enjoy the progress you have made with this rom.
Absolutely amazing, I am not quite sure what it is, but this rom is somehow faster, and in general better.
I agree this rom is awesome so far. I would like a fix for the accelerometer though.
I've been using this rom for a couple of days now and agree it is very quick and responsive. Accelerometer, compass fix would be good and you have something nice to bide the time until honeycomb arrives. This rom clearly shows the real potential of the hardware. My favorite rom so far. Very nice job!

I heard the on board ericcson 3307 3g module does not support voice cellular calling, but if there is a work around that would be very cool. I have even thought changing out the ericcson module for one that would work might be a way to go for someone who really wants the cellular calling feature. I think the module is plugged into a mini pci.
Thanks, man! Just got around to flashing today and the rom is working great so far.
Simply renaming the Phone.apk and TelephonyProvider.apk files should make 3G work, right?
My Hdmi wasnt working on utopia rom.. I fully wiped and flashed this rom (which really is a beast I love the way it runs..) but unfortunately it still doesnt work.
What files are needed to ensure hdmi is working?
Am I able to push them over to the system again to ensure that it works?
Any suggestions?
I could flash back to stock and test but I would much rather an adb type "push" solution.
Thanks for this ROM, don't like Eden much at the moment so it's great to have a choice.
I've been running Utopia for a few days and I was able to sync my Exchange through the default Android email app. Flashed this ROM (only Cache wipe) and my Exchange account was gone. Actually the Android email app to manage this account is not present. Also unlike the original Utopia the app "WidgetPicker" keeps FC-ing.

I really do not know, that us just how it was in the galaxy s i9000 forums, if you want you can try it without that and reply back if it works or not.
Okay, perhaps a stupid question from someone who hasn't used a gingerbread ROM yet. What the heck are the "rainbows" that we're talking about?
Rainbows is when the screen totally ****s up looks like tv noise and some colors inbetween
has anyone tried this yet?

well i flashed it without using the odin and it booted but everything is loop force closing so i cant do anything
edit: just realized that u forgot to wipe the caches
edit 2:couldnt reboot in to recovery so i just odin'd and am now in the process of flashing. will post in a few minutes the results
EDIT 3: following the OP is the best way to flash this rom. it booted perfectly with the rainbows in about 2 minutes. Swype needs to be changed to a version that works for the vibrant. Haptic Doesn't work on Home button either. the volume doesnt seem to be as loud as it should either
EDIT 4: everything seems to be working so far. im going to see how this rom fares with the EDT OC kernels used for Asgard instead of the Lidroid kernel in the morning

EDT can speak for themselves, but I think their intention is to not be posted for download on XDA. To my understanding they don't care what one individual does with their work to be used strictly on someone's own personal phone mixed with other roms or anything else you want to do on your phone.
But they're clear that they don't want their stuff distributed via others on XDA.
Not trying to troll, just trying to make sure people aren't scared to use in general the good work EDT puts out, although a post already mentions that the kernel they tried from EDT had some compatability issues with this rom.
Re: rainbows. I don't recommend being intimidated to flash a rom because it has rainbows. This is what it means, when it boots up instead of some animations you'll get a static screen that doesn't show any of what should currently be showing on the screen. You don't really need to see the screen while booting anyways so that isn't a big deal.
What you do need to understand is that you wont be able to see recovery mode because you'll just see a rainbow until you hard reboot the phone so that it starts up normal. There are two ways to address the lack of recovery - just don't worry about it and use ODIN when you want to leave this rom, or if you need recovery then use a work around. To work around it either flash a different kernel to access recovery or use something like screencast to see your phone's screen on your computer. You'll have to do some reading before you understand how to do these work arounds but at least they're there.

Use baksmali and smali to decompile it and then do what he says.
I use ubuntu for that
I get the android.policy.jar and open it, then i drag classes.dex to the desktop
I go to terminal, cd /home/coldflid/Desktop (cuz it's there were i have classes.dex and baksmali and smali)
then enter ( i use baksmali/smali 1.2.5, but if you use another version, change the name for the one you use)
java -jar baksmali-1.2.5.jar classes.dex -o androidpolicy
Then a folder called androidpolicy will be created with classes.dex decompiled
Modify any files you need to mod and then in the same terminal
java -jar smali-1.2.5.jar androidpolicy
an out.dex will be created, rename it to classes.dex and drag it onto android.policy.jar, overwrite the old classes.dex
Good luck

I've been running the rom for about 16 hours and have experienced no hiccups. It's really fast and stable. Vlingo works great as well as the sgs2 lockscreen.
there are only 3 bugs in the entire rom. GPS of course, no haptic on home, and the CWM Tweaks app doesn't work. there's no percentage battery mod either.
p.s. for those that care the Quadrant score on 3 consecutive runs were 971, 1016, & 1027.
How the hell did I miss this?
Looks great Ali, gonna try it out when I have the time.

Sorry, I meant do't you have 3g - to download it without connecting to your work's wifi...
Just flashed it and about to play...
It has that old bug (can't remember what rom it was in though) where you press the menu softkey and nothing happens until you tap the screen, then you see the popup... and the back button is laggy
i do have 3g but i have no credit on my phone until friday when i fget paid lol
flashing now
Bluetooth calls not working in this rom.
The whole thing seemed quite laggy and the menu button bug is serious.
yes i noticed the bugs myself i think back to M6 for me then until this is more stable

So, I guess that means to early for everyday use.
On the other hand, I can't even managed to install this ROM via recovery v3.2.0.0
It says :
Opening update package...
Installing update...
Amend scripting (update script) is no longer supported.
Amend scripting was depreciated by Google in Android 1.5.
...
Installation aborted
clockwork 3.X wont support the old update-script instead it uses updater-binary
and yes i would say the rom is still in early stages
Okay, thanks ...
I'll flash the 2x recovery and try this rom after Michalak8 upload the new one.
He said v3 is on progress.
Before you touch the screen button (read ad1 is described there - then it works beautifully), progress on v3 are as follows - fixed audio, and small bug fixes but the package is ready to fight with the theme chooser - the application works, but the motives are not compatible with Froyo zdunexa themes will be easier for me convert into Froyo but not under the theme chooser - that themy (honeycomb, Meizu, 2x, and others will be issued in thethe form of of packages of recovery and an XML file for settings enable przelaczabie cm between them )( Respitetheme chooser functionality )It is enough when it comes to themes CM7 settings operate almost 100% - only been overclocking, overscrooling I BOOKMARK display (causes fc) ... Do not know if you see this feature today ... Time is running out

Follow this guide - worked at once:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1473781
(You set up a simple web-server on your machine, redirect all requests to LG to the local web-server and fools it into allowing you to flash the .kdz the usual way.)
I tried, but it doesn't work. Look at the screenshot...
I did everything like in the guide. What can I do?

You must have done something wrong in the hosts-file I think. That message should only appear if it still can contact the LG-servers. I may be wrong though.
I followed the guide, and as I said it worked.
Oh, and make sure to click "OK" in the webserver after setting the port-number, or it still listens on port 80, not 9002.
I did, the server has port 9002...
When I start lgmobile update tool, it says no internet connection, so the hosts file seems to work...
Maybe, doesn't hurt to try. I rebooted out of old habit.
No chance after reboot...
There must besomething wrong with the shttp program.
Can someone make a rooted and zip version??

What happens in the shttps console? Do you see any activity there?
If yes, did you make a www folder inside the shttps folder and extract the dowloaded www.zip to the correct place?
Good news, I found my mistake: I put the files in shttp instead of the www folder.
Now it works and I will try to make a deodexed and rooted zip.

It should actually work with most if not all AOSP ROMs, out of the Box, but I haven't tried it yet, so Ill test it out, and will let you know if it works. If not, Ill make a universal version too.
I'm not sure how it plays with V4A but if V4A overwrites the audio_effects file, then it will not work correctly. Alternatively, I could make a version that comes with V4A prebuilt into it. Ill have to go through further testing to make sure. Ill keep you guys posted.

What recovery do you have? If you're using twrp, disable zip verification before flashing.

I Have TWRP, I think it's not a good thing disable verification, because the zip may be corrupted.
