COMPLETELY Stock Froyo ROM? - Hero CDMA Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I can't to seem an official AOSP built Froyo ROM that works like it should. The AOSP build I tried has a completely messed up default launcher, it scrolls everything WAY too fast, and the home button doesn't work until I install a third party launcher like LauncherPro. All the others seem to have other, third party launchers. Please don't tell me that LP is better than the Froyo Launcher, as I want to try it myself before deciding this myself.
The only other ROM I found that has the stock Froyo Launcher is DarchStar's AOSP Froyo ROM (v2.8). Except the link is dead
So does anyone have a completely stock AOSP Froyo ROM? I would build it, but I'm not aware of the changes I need to make. Plus I don't know exactly how, and it would definitely take more than a few hours on my 5 year old computer.

This is the most common froyo rom I think. It's built from aosp instead of Cyanogenmod

That was the one with the messed up Launcher It scrolls WAY too fast, and it won't lock until I install a third party launcher.

Are there any Mods that work on Stock ROM?

I have a rooted Nexus One 2.2 and I really wanted to keep my stock ROM (there are always issues with cooked ROMs regardless of how well they are prepared) but I also want to be able to morph/mod my device a bit.
As you may tell I'm a bit of a noob so I'm just wondering if this is possible without flashing a custom ROM?
What would you like to change?

You say that regarding cooked roms, but the same can be said with any of the "mods" you want to use. Everyone is different, even you stock rom may not be immune to "stock" or the most basic mods. But I get what you are talking about.
You can use setcpu to oc your processor. There are a bunch of metamorphs you can use to customize your phone as well. They even have a circle battery mod that you can use WITHOUT being rooted. Only thing is, that mod does not overwrite or replace anything. It's an addition to he existing features.
Not to say all mods are worthless, being a CM6 user for a while and then going through eVil D's sense files and now Rod's MIUI files are welcome additions to people like me who like a lil spice in their daily flashes lol.

I'm just looking for some bits and pieces.
Circle Battery in Notification Bar
Notification bar colour change
etc
If your looking for aesthetics then I'd suggest using a launcher like adw or launcher pro... And you can only underclock without a different kernel.

Simple to do. I use the stock FRG83 ROM myself with these exact changes. First thing you need to do is get a deodexed version of the ROM. I use the one found here by Geo411m: Completely Stock Deodexed with busybox
I then went out and found all the images that I liked from various other ROMs and themes and made my own update zip file using Geo411m's FRG83 Blackbar Add-on v1.2 addon as the base.
Just take a day or so and learn how the themes work and that the framework-res.apk file can be modified using winrar or winzip and then you should be on your way.

New here

So I'm new to the captivate,im rooted and only using suckerpunch kenrnal. I don't want a changed theme or anything but what is the best way to go to max my phones speed? I'm running froyo and I'm already oc'd to 1.4 ghz.

run a 2.2.1 rom like jpy or js5 and you wont really need the overclock and lagfix but sounds like you'd do it anyway. the kernel really makes the biggest difference but putting the best kernel over a laggy rom just doesn't make much sense. im using the dragon rc3 rom, it is based on 2.2.1 firmware from a chinese version of the captivate and the ui is butter smooth. there are many other good ones too. and soon enough there will be cm7 which will have other enhancements.
there is also the minfree settings and scheduler but you should have one of the faster schedulers on by default with that kernel. most other sleed related settings are built into the kernel.
Well see I'm looking for maybe a tweaked stock rom. I love the samsung interface on the captivate. Overclocking seems to help a bit but I still feel a little lag here and there

So I tweaked a few things and all is 99.9% ok. Now I wanna deodex, any way to do this without flashing a rom? Or maybe a way to flash a custom rom and then get back stock theme?

By deodexing you will have essentially created a custom rom. Unchanged, but custom none the less. You would have to pull all the needed files - deodex - and then push them back. More steps then flashing a custom rom. There are a few roms in the dev section that are for the most part "stock deodexed" with small changes that do not really effect the look of the standard samsuck interface.
Explore the dev section.
lol ok ill just read all the post's. i was thinking maybe i could shortcut but i know that isnt how things work and samsuck? damn i thought samsung did pretty good with the galaxy s phones

[Q] Gingerbread Launcher for 2.3.3

Hello, i recently updated my SGS to JVK 2.3.3 and i want to use it with the gingerbread laucher, but, i cannot find a "decent" apk. I can install gb launchers from the market, but those are the ones compiled for 2.2, 2.1... and they feel a bit laggy... Does anyone have a 2.3 gb launcher that is compatible and compiled only for 2.3., taken directly from for example nexus s? I would really appriciate it. Thanks!
Why not install ADW with gingerbread theme it's better than stock gb launcher IMO. Search under android development or apps&themes of this forum, think I've seen it there.
You happy with 2.3.3 ???
Pozdrav zemo.

I've tried almost every launcher out there but, i really like the stock launcher, clean&fast, i really like the app drawer. Launcherpro & adw ex come close, but the stock launcher is my fav. 2.3.3 is great, great battery, but missing root & cwm, and themes I don't like samsung stock stuff, AOSP is my thing. I'll try to find decent gb launcher, all of the ones that i've tried are not good, 2 of them showed blurry icons in the app drawer.

The problem is not with the Launcher, it is because of 2.3.3 graphic library has some bugs. I already fixed it, see my post.

[Q] Why is there no AOSP 2.3 ROM for SGS?

Hey Guys!
I've been busy flashin all those great ROM's you put toghether, and i have one question.
I'd like to have a real AOSP gingerbread ROM, just like the Nexus S, as Google intended.
But all i've seen so far is CM7, and Darky's ROM, but those are all customized ROM's. Is there some problem wich i don't know about, and will there ever be a chance for a pure google ROM?
Thanks in advance,
FEJTH
The SGS is marketed with touch wiz, so you'll never likely get an official AOSP rom. The Nexus S is produced by Samsung for Google
CM7 is the closest thing you will find to basic gingerbread
Sent from my I9000m running Cyanogen Mod Nightly
I recently started flashing cm7 like no other rom, and true...it's the best thing closest to stock aosp! But...that rom is built on aosp, so the basics are there, right?
What is holding back for a IMHO simple stock rom..?

ROM Without Bloat?

Before you say that there is no bloat in all the custom ROMs, I have ran a few of them and they still have stuff like Backup Assistant running in the background and I would love to not have to clean it. I would love the stock launcher and AOSP (of course it's based on the Verizon ROM since CM7 isn't stable but just for the drivers and stuff only) as much as possible and even the stock Gingerbread look and feel. Is that possible? Or at least remove all the Verizon software?
Check out liberty rom..its very aosp like and although its just a blurless rom its still nice and I don't think there's any bloat in it but hey I could be terribly mistaken. There's a link in the development secotion under the thread 'liberty rom now on d3' to the rootzwiki page thazt has the download
/Droid3
Pedwards3x has a deodexed/debloated 'stock' ROM at RootzWiki (sorry, can't post links just yet) you might wanna check into.
Thanks guys.
