[Q] GingerHome problem (android.process.lghome) - LG Revolution

First, I can't post in the GingerHome ROM post under the Revo Development forum. I guess maybe because I have less than 10 posts? The forum rules or something will not let me. That is why I posted this here.
After I installed this ROM from the zip through clockworkMod I rebooted and I get the following error:
The application Home (process android.process.lghome) has stopped unexpectedly. Please try again.
I can tap "Force Close" but it immediately keeps popping back up so it basically locks me out. I rebooted and restored back to stock, but I was wondering if anyone else had this problem? I know mtmichaelson is focused on GingerVolt ROM and it was nice, but it was too stripped down for me. I wanted to keep some of the stock apps like the weather widget and I liked getting the email and messages on the lock screen.
It is just me or my phone, or is it some coding in the ROM?
mtmichaelson, if you read this, keep up the good work!

Try redownloading and flashing the new download. The GingerHome is not a rom, it is just a add on for GingerVolt hence the reason nothing really changes in it. It is basically just the stock LG stuff to go on top of GV. Let me know how it works.

Ah ok. So I install GingerVolt, then I install this? This just adds onto the GV. I got it now. Yeah no wonder I was having problems. I just installed GingerHome over the stock ROM.
I am such a noob to all this. Of course this is my first Android phone though. (Came from BB). This phone is soooo much better.
While I am at it, what does it take to develop for this phone? I saw something about Kitchen sink(?) to develop ROMs but I guess it does not work with the Revo?

For this phone in particular a lot of time and patience lol. The Android kitchen only helps when dealing with the boot.img on this phone, but does require Linux to edit. Other than that there are several other tools out there depending on if you are wanting to modify smali code, or apps. If you are wanting to get into it, come to the irc sometime, there are several of us that hang out on there at night.

As a OO developer, SMALI makes me want to shoot myself in the head...
It's like editing ILDASM, only it seems less intuitive.

I flashed to GingerVolt 1.3 and then put on GingerHome. Everything seems to be working great. Now, when ever I hit the home button, I get a popup asking to complete this action with LG Home or ADW.Launcher. I like LG Home as the launch as the ADW one would disappear on me sometimes or I would would accidentally delete the apps launcher and have to add it back.
If I set the LG Home as default, is there a way to switch back to ADW if I want?
I think starting with an app would be better for development, but how much time does it involve? Also, how do I get into IRC? and what time is "at night?" I have a 13mo and I never know what time I might have to getup so I don't stay up late anymore.

You can make the LGhome as the default launcher, and if you want to reverse that, go to settings>applications>all>lghome click on LGhome and press the Reset Defaults button at the bottom.
Developing apps, go on youtube, and type android developing tutorials. Obviously it will not be easy from the start. It requires basic XML and java language knowledge which will take getting used to

Difficult in what way? I think its probably the easiest soft keyboard to use. I guess if you're not used to a qwerty keyboard then it does take some time to get used to where the keys are as swyping with efficiency does require you to have the letters locations committed to memory.

That's probably the reason people view it as a novelty. It becomes second nature after a while. I've gotten to the point now where I don't even have to look for individual letters on the keyboard as I'm swyping. I just need to view the keyboard as a whole and its just burned into my memory where I need to swype to get the letters. it just takes a little time, but once your get it down its by far the fastest way to type without having an actual physical keyboard.

Netflix on the market? for stock 2.2 no less

So I downloaded netflix from the market, and it says in the list of supported devices that the HTC Thunderbolt is one. Now it does install and accepts your username password, you can see your qeue and it attemps to play the vid, but fails with a DRM required message. any one else seeing this? if you search for it it will not appear, but if you select apps, all apps, free apps then scroll down its listed. click install and try to enjoy a mostly usable app.

it will never work on stock or rooted froyo for the thunderbolt (at least not without netflix directly supporting it). person that said it did on that forum is full of it. amount of effort to make it work would not be worth it. GB will be out soon and nearly everyone has it already on here. Anyone who wont root to get netflix obviously doesnt want it bad enough

Ok ok, im not a dev, but.... Look at the LG Revolution. It is running 2.2.1 and netflix runs perfectly out of the box. in my ignorance, I dont know why it would be any more dificult to modify it to work with other froyo devices. Im sure one of the software type bullys will pick me appart here.. By the way... XDA isn't a friendly place any more. boo to flamers... (will probably get flamed for that) HA

Netflix does NOT need GB to function, it appears as if it needs it for the TBolt but not overall. That being said they made Droid Bionic support available so take everything with a grain of salt. Maybe GB will be coming soon and rather than fix issues with the TBolt again soon they figured set it up for GB and users can use it then (and root users now ).

[Q] What do I need to modify in build.prop to keep the latest OTA from pushing?

Yes, I know I could just install a custom ROM. But I'm just looking for the quick fix. I heard the latest OTA breaks root and makes it harder to root or impossible. Just want to get rid of the notifications for now.
Alternatively, does anyone have the build.prop from the OTA that I could just copy over so the phone thinks it's updated?
It requires more than just a build.prop edit.

What is this, a secret society? If I need to do more than modify the build.prop, then what is it? Would you like me to rephrase the question?
You asked what to modify in the build.prop. I answered your question. No need for the smart alec secret society comment. This is a pretty chill group of people that will do anything for anybody. I for one take that kind of stuff personal and would generally not help out, but I'll be nice this time around.

Ok, so you're saying that if I want to go back to Derap 1.1 all I have to do is delete the updat.apk but I'll lose BT? I don't have to modify boot.img and update.apk just delete update.apk? I'm cool with losing BT, I don't use it.
I really appreciate the work you are doing MT. I just like the stock themed ROM like what was in Decrap a little better than the green.
Keep up the work though I may come back to Revolt yet! You said you were working on a more stock themed ROM is that still going to happen?

Thanks! Bluetooth isn't a big deal.
Since renaming MobileUpdateClient.apk to .bak it looks like I'm going to get a serious boost in battery life. Since doing this, 3 hours ago, I've only lost 5% of battery. I would usually lose around 10% every hour. Maybe BT has something to do with poor battery life on this phone? I don't know, but it's worth looking into. I hope it's the case.
On a side note, you may want to reboot after update, or do what I did and try to enable BT. When you try to enable BT it will act like it resets the phone sort of like a soft boot. Phone feels lighter too....lol jk.

Application/Server Access

Hello all.
Well in an attempt to ease access to the original applications, I am hosting the system/app folder on my file server.
Kogshole
This currently includes the original stock apps and apps from de-crapified 1.0 & 1.1 roms. I will include the app folders from revolt versions soon.
I have also hosted all the files I have downloaded from the XDA LG Revolution posts.
If you would like to see any revolution files posted here please just ask
Any Dev that asks can get full access to any of my servers. I want to help the revolution in anyway possible. That would include formatting a sever dedicated to development.

On a serious note, good on you, but watch for hackers and DOS attacks. It's been the reason why most of us do not host publicly for XDA from our personal servers.

All browsers fc after root and 883 radio flash

I followed the instructions in the first post in the guide on this forum for unlocking the phone for use on at$t. Have my staright talk sim and changed my apn, all data works fine when using any of the apps ike the facebook app or youtube or downloading apps from play but when i open the browser it immediately force closes. Was kind of annoyed but just thought i would download and try a different browser, that was a no go and 3 browsers later i still cant get any of them to work. Dolphin hd will open but when you put in a web address it fc. Any idea what i might have broken that all these browsers seem dependent on? Btw running a stock rom, havent gotten brave enough yet to try flashing custom roms. This was my first attempt at altering an android device so I'm trying to take it slow and earn everything i can to avoid becoming a bricklayer. Any help or suggestions would be appreciated. If i have to i will take it back to factory and try again but thought i would give the experts a chance at educating the noob.
