A few months ago the charger port on my wizard snapped off, so i got out my soldering iron soldered it back on, everything worked fine. apart from the fact that it didn't sync. i live with this as i use linux and rarely need to sync i just bluetooth stuff across.
But today i bricked my phone, and can't start it (hangs on startup). so i try and flash it but i cant as it doesnt sync.
so i'm wondering if anyone has a reTouched backup rom that i can flash from SD card with? as i rely on my phone greatly.
and t-mobile are saying i can't upgrade untill january (even though my dad was able to upgrade and i got mine around the same time both on 18 month contracts)
so please anyone?
Thanks in advance.
Darius
Did you try to hard-reset your phone?
Pressing CommManager + VoiceCommand button with the reset hole, then press Talk button when prompted.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=334440
I just had that problem, and it was discussed in detail in the thread I linked above. Happy reading and good luck!
You don't have any other option except to get your mini usb port repaired of your phone,in order to unbrick or flash any other rom to your phone.
the option you are talking about is not possible, as Sdcard image created by any other phone can not be flashed to another phone,as at the time of creating backup image on Sdcard, the method uses some values from the same device that are stored at the first 0x200 bytes ,therefore, Sdcard image of one phone can not be flashed to another phone,it can only flash back the image created by the same phone.
try to revive your phone by Hard reset,it might get ok,although by doing Hard reset you'll loose all your personal data, but it might revive the phone, otherwise in any case try to get mini usb repaired.
On second thought, are using any Sdcard already in your phone ?if yes take out the Sdcard and Hard reset,it might do the trick, sometimes if Sdcard needs formate,it freezes the splash screen, good luck
I've tried a hard reset, doesnt seem to work. allthough it did once but then same thing happened next time i soft reset.
i'm using the .Mun. wm6 rom
i just took it back apart gave it a clean (cleared the tons of sand blocking it up)
resoldered the usb port
now i get "Device not recognized" where as before i got nothing.
I'm thinking i need a new phone

hmmmm, I think it's woken up ,I hope,do one more thing, uninstall Active sync, reboot your pc,download latest Active sync ver 4.5 and update your pc to Windows Installer 3.1 from Windows update,Install the new active sync 4.5 and try to synchronize, lets hope it'll do the trick,no harm giving it a try this way
On second thought,to check if the mini usb port of your phone has started to work is to get your phone off the usb cable, try to go into bootloader mode on phone and when in bootloader mode connect usb cable to phone and your pc,if after connecting you see a small usb appear at the bottom of the bootloader screen of your phone, than VOILLA! your all set to flash. good luck
I tried the bootloader again and i did get the USB in the corner, but, it still refuses to sync or flash (i also reinstalled activesync and everything necessary).
seems a bit strange. anyway, whenever i plug it in a get the bubble saying "device not recognized" etc etc
click that it registers as "unknown device"
Which has no drivers
"No drivers are installed for this device.
If you are having problems with this device, click Troubleshoot to start the troubleshooter."
are there any extra drivers needed for the actual device? and yes i have tried the update drivers option doesnt seem to find anything.
EDIT:
I forgot to say, i did manage to hard reset and get it working, its just incredibly slow and unreliable and im still looking to flash it.
'I tried the bootloader again and i did get the USB in the corner, but, it still refuses to sync or flash (i also reinstalled activesync and everything necessary)'.
Ok,some encouragement here, let me explain, while flashing a rom,you don't require to establish connection through active sync, infact, while flashing active sync is automatically disabled by ruu.. itself.ok
now lets try this,if you say that when in bootloader, usb is shown, then kill the active sync altogether for awhile being. Before connecting your phone to the pc via usb, disable active sync, right click active sync icon in the task bar, click 'connection settings' and remove check from 'Allow usb Connection' and 'open active sync when my devics connects'.than open 'Task Manager',click processes tab and find 'wcescomm.exe' process, hit 'end process',this will close active sync altogether.
Now if you have the official Rom of your carrier,if not download it from your carriers official website.Go into bootloader mode on your phone, connect phone to pc vis usb, when it shows usb there open rom and run RUU..,hope it'll flash your device,it's a faint try but no harm trying, good luck
Go to my thread linked above...it is actually discussed...
In a nutshell...
go to device manager and tick "show hidden devices"
scroll down to usb, uninstall "unknown device"
using task manager kill wescomm.exe (or something to that name)
shut down any firewall
shut down your pc, AND pull the plug for at least 30 seconds
replug the power to pc, boot up
check in task manager to make sure wescomm.exe didn't restart, kill it if it did
make sure firewall didn't restart
now force bootloader
plug in phone
look for corner usb
work quickly...reflash your phone before you lose any connection
"the update utility cannot connect to your pda phone..." etc
doesn't seem to be working, but i still do get the usb in the corner

If you followed the directions, you should be able to flash the phone. Mine was tempermental but it DID flash. You need to make sure you follow the directions...and one more thing...
turn off your phone, unplug it, remove the battery for 10 seconds, power it on, then plug it in...after doing all the other steps. That's what got mine to read...and flash

try to hard reset the device , this is her guide HTC Alpine hard reset
To perform a full reset
A full device reset clears memory, deletes all data, and restores the Pocket PC Phone to its default settings. Programs installed at the factory remain. All data that you have created and programs you have installed are erased.
Press and hold the Power button, and then use your stylus to press the “soft reset button” at the same time, as shown below. Be sure you have backed up all your data on an SD card or on a desktop PC before performing a full reset. after you hard reset the device, connect to a USB sync and you Flash Room again All you have to remember, allow usb connection .... and not disabled its usb connection Okey if you still have problems you can contact me
Do i need to go into bootloader mode first before flashing?? Cause what i did was, connect it the comp, and while it is stil connected with windows mobile device centre and the phone is still in windows mobile desktop, then i run the MaUpgradeUt_noID.exe, and halfway upgrading, it just turn off n go back to bootloader mode...and then after that, it auto black out after each autoconfiguration.
And by Flash Rom, do you mean just run the MaUpgradeUt_noID.exe with all the files in it?? or there is something else i should do???
Sorry for my ignorance And ur guidance will be very much appreaciated!!!!

EnterBL.exe should reboot the device into bootloader only, Activesync should disable then. You can access bootloader manually, it's more safe
Now i managed to get into bootloader mode and upgrade it.. but the upgrade hangs halfway, the progress stays at 0% and saying it's upgrading radio, but always failed. What's should i do pls?

Rooted LG D405n, nothing done to the software beyond that (unless you count having zooper/nova launcher configured on it). Gave the phone to a friend for a short while and she decided to update the software using the LG software update on the phone. After she selected install on the latest update which came out not long ago and was supposedly going to update the apps, it restarted and got stuck on boot screen with Boot Ceritification Error [560].
I've tried this guide http://forum.xda-developers.com/lg-l90/general/guide-flash-stock-kdz-offline-lg-l90-t2803479 but I got stuck on step 4. because I cannot make the PC recognize the device (it does not show up at all), so the LG tool can't install USB drivers. If i try to do it manually (it gives me an option to select a device from a list) it doesn't seem to do anything, just gets stuck on the Downloading USB driver window.
I can put the phone in Firmware Upgrade Mode just fine, but it doesn't seem to do anything useful. The PC still won't recognize the device, however I can hear the 'usb pluged in' sound (I'm on Win7).
Did a factory reset, didn't help.

You could try the LG Support Tool. Not sure it will work but it's worth a shot. The problem with the phone not getting detected by the PC is the fact that 1) The OS was upgraded by your friend and 2) The factory reset you performed . Both of those acts would have disabled USB debugging hence no device detected.
I unfortunately have no encouraging information to give you.

It appears that I have fixed it.
Since The tool would not download the USB drivers by itself I went to the LG website and got them manually, installed them and restarted the PC.
After that I launched the LG Mobile Support Tool, but it still didn't see the device.
However, I clicked Options and Upgrade Recovery. It asked me for my IMEI. I put the phone into Firmware Upgrade mode and the program started upgrading the phone.
After it was all done, the phone restarted, and the software update simply said that instalation failed, I have lost root but everything else seems fine. Rooted again with towelroot and I'm back in game.

Well I'm glad you managed to fix it.
Since this issue appears to be solved, please insert '[SOLVED]', without the quotes, at the beginning of your thread title.
Please excuse me if I'm repeating a prior question but it seems far too specific to trawl through pages of related threads to make sure.
I decided I was going to sit down and root my Xperia Z1....
Steps:
1. I installed ADB and Fastboot via the latest windows Android SDK (r23-.0.2), in fact I had to source a sony version of the fastboot driver in order to get it working but once I'd done that all went ahead as planned.
2. Generally followed this guide (wont let me post a link but google "honami cyanogenmod" and it's the 2nd result)
3. All was going swimmingly, I entered fastboot mode absolutely fine, flashed CWM using fastboot which all loaded up absolutely fine.
3. At this stage ADB was not picking up my device at all, tried different cables, ports, all of the usual. What I didn't do was make a backup, and then I wiped all of the things that it's possible to wipe thinking to myself that I was going to get Cyanogenmod on there so all would be fine...
4. Finally I (quite stupidly) restored from memory card (which had already been wiped) from inside CWM, the device restarted and now I am getting no response AT ALL.
5. Sometimes it will load the Sony 'splash' logo that first appears but sometimes not, when plugged in the device is recognised and ADB actually sees the device but lists it as offline... Interestingly at this stage windows device installer actually installs Sony ADB driver for me automatically.
6. All I'm getting at the moment is a red flashing LED although when I plug in via USB the device is again recognised when I type adb devices but again is offline...
If any more information is needed please, I will be more than happy to give a quick reply.
Thank you in advance

I was trying to end up with a rooted device running Cyanogenmod, I've been putting it off and off looking into the whole rooting scene and mistakenly dived in a little too quick without knowing what I was doing.
after that you move cm-11-20141112-SNAPSHOT-M12-honami.zip to your sd card. Now you have flashed boot.img you can't move zip to your sd card using z1 you had to do that before using fastboot. use some sd card adapter and do it. then put the sd card back in your phone. turn it on then enter the cwm recovery pressing Vol+ for a few seconds when the sony logo shows up. select full wipe data. then install from zip. choose cm-11-20141112-SNAPSHOT-M12-honami.zip. reboot. ADB won't work until you have installed cyanogenmod zip. You have only installed cyanogenmod kernel and custom recovery when you flashed the boot.img.

Firstly AkiraProject thank you for your time on this.
I do realise that in my stupidity I could have loaded the cm-11-20141112-SNAPSHOT-M12-honami.zip to my SD card (if I'd had one or waited and gotten one).
What I did however was wipe everything I possibly could, and then hit restore from sdcard/0/ I believe - it may have been a different directory.
I believe what I have done is restored to a blank image......
WHen not plugged into usb I get a red blinking LED when just pressing the power button once.
When holding volume-up + Power the phone vibrates as if it is trying to boot but is unable to
If I leave it plugged into USB AND then press , the device shows the sony Logo and then proceeds to display a backlit but plain black screen, Sony PC Companion recognises the device as connected but is unable to interact with it. The output of "adb devices" shows my device but says "unauthorized" and windows is attempting to install MTB driver....
The behaviour doesnt seem to be quite the same every time.
I believe the device is soft bricked.... is this likely to be a case of a wiped partition table? Or at least loss of the boot partition?
If I leave the device plugged in via USB it periodically reboots itself, shows the Sony logo, remains on a bank screen then shuts itself down.
Shows in device manager as "USB Input Device" on win 7 x64 pro
Thanks in advance
Pretty certain it's not hard bricked, there will be instructions here you can follow:

I have done quite a lot of reading etc on the subject....
according to This thread, Sony Xperias have the bootloader in non-writable mask ROM... so you should always be able to access Fastboot or Flash Mode?
The problem I am having is that I don't seem to be able to activate EITHER Fastboot OR Flash mode in order to flash some new firmware onto my device....
My device is recognized as a "USB Input Device" on Device Manager and windows tries to install MTP driver. I'm going to have a go at the process with a fresh install of windows 7 x64 and 'windows auto-install drivers' turned off.
What is the maximum damage I could have done here?
Thanks
Update
Hard reset (red button inside of the sim-card slot) resets the phone with three vibrates and it restarts.
The phone powers on and displays Sony splash screen and then displays a back-lit black screen.
The phone gets much hotter than normal and powers on to the blank back-lit screen when on charge.
I have NO ACCESS to flash mode or fast boot. Any combination of buttons leads to the same outcome: single vibrate, red LED and the phone shows the Sony splash screen then blank screen, as if the button combinations are just ignored...
Flashtool DOES NOT recognize the device, although it is recognized as C6903 in device manager (I have Sony adb driver installed and have disabled the MTP driver that windows recommends).
Flashtool gives me the red error text about making sure drivers are installed and making sure the device isn't in MTP mode.
I'm at an absolute loss as to what to try next, can somebody shed any light on this? There are plenty of guides but they all seem to rely on EITHER fastboot or flash mode and I can access neither although the phone powers on!
Thanks in advance!
Maybe the partition was corrupted when you flash "blank" image..........
So....JTAG....or send to Sony service....
Shutdown with power+vol up (will vibrate thrice) and see if it doesn't turn on automatically.
If it didn't turn on now check your task manager on windows, go to process tab, kill adb.exe (every adb.exe)
Back on phone connect usb holding down the vol down button (phone have to be off before you connect usb), if green led turns on and doesn't turn off you are on flashmode.
Check on flashtool or flashtool64 (for 64bits) and see if flashtool detects your device. If it detects and recognizes your phone flash the FTF for your device and let it do its job.
As you messed the phone Sony will charge for repairs.
I'm in a big predicament. A few weeks ago I installed the MOAR ROM on my Note 5. After installing this ROM I was no longer able to connect my phone to PC. I tried a Windows 8 PC which says I have an unrecognized USB device plugged in. I tried going into Developer settings to set USB mode to MTP but the option didn't exist. I had all USB drivers installed as well. My wife's phone is recognized no problem. When plugging the phone into my linux machine absolutely nothing happened. It used to show the phone in the left navigation panel in my window manager but after installing MOAR ROM it was no longer detected.
Anyway, today I was trying to play Cartoon Wars 3 and since my phone is rooted it wouldn't let me play. I decided to go into the Super User app and disable it to see if the game would work and it didn't. When I went to re-enable the app it said installation failed and asked me to reboot. I clicked reboot and was sent into a boot loop. I thought okay no big deal, I'll just restore a backup in TWRP. When I go to restore the backup and select the backup file it asks which partitions to restore, but there are no boxes to check. It usually has options like system and data but now it's just blank. I tried a factory reset and I'm still in a bootloop. I'm at a complete loss. I don't know what else to do. I've tried download mode and everything but no matter what I do my phone isn't detected by my pc.
I appreciate any help. I don't know what to do. I'm out of a phone right now and don't have a backup. Not to mention I'm in between jobs right now and can't afford a new one right now.
Just flash a stock rom from sammobile.com
Pre req:
*Odin(any vers)
*Stock rom
Steps
*Extract the downloaded stock rom in your PC
*In twrp wipe everything except internal, then boot in to download mode.
*Once in download mode, connect your phone to your pc, then open Odin.
*In Odin, check the "AP" section and locate the downloaded stock rom(the extracted one)
*Hit start.

Thank you for your reply but it seems you didn't read my post. My phone is not recognized by any pc.
What is the terminal command to restore a backup? That's pretty much my last ditch effort.
Well I broke my recovery so I'm screwed. I contacted Samsung and they said they would service it for free. Wish me luck.
What would cause the phone to stop being recognized by the PC? I narrowed it down to the MTP software or the micro usb charge port. My Windows computer says Device Descriptor Request Failed. Linux box does nothing. No USB devices are listed when I run lsblk.

when your phone is in download mode,it doesn't work to connect it with samsung kies on your pc?
You could try using the Kies software to reload the stock firmware. Here's an overview of what to do:
- if you don't already have the Kies software installed on your PC, download it (just search Google) and install it. The first time it runs it'll update itself to the latest version so make sure you run it once before proceeding.
- put your phone in Download mode: with the phone completely off, press and hold the Volume Down and Home and Power buttons simultaneously, and release them all when you see the Samsung splash screen
- connect the phone to your PC with the USB cable that came with the phone
-- if you've never had the phone connected to your Windows-based computer before, you'll see messages about installing drivers, etc - just wait until this is done (may take 5 or 10 minutes) [I don't know what happens if you have a Mac - it probably just works]
- in the Kies software, select the second item in the Tools menu and just follow the prompts to enter the model number (in CAPS) and IMEI/Serial Number (both found under the battery - it's ok to remove the battery at this point)
- the Kies software should start downloading the correct firmware for your phone from the Internet; once that's done (depending on your Internet connection speed) it'll begin downloading that to the phone (this probably takes 10 minutes or so)

Kies doesn't work either. I already tried that. When I hook up the phone It says "Device Descriptor Request Failed". It used to connect to my computers until I put MOAR ROM on the phone. Since then it stopped being recognized by my computers. There's either something wrong with the connection or something got corrupted.

What have you already tried?
- are you sure you're using a data cable and not a charging-only cable?
- have you tried a different computer?
- have you installed the Kies software?
- what does Device Manager show when the phone is connected?
- assuming that the phone is working normally, does the phone show anything when you connect it?
- do you have try windows 8 or 10?
can be you found a solution in this forum

I've tried 4 different cables. My wife's S5 works perfectly fine on all computers. I have tried in Windows 7, 8, 8.1, and 10. I've also tried in Linux Mint. It used to work until I installed MOAR Rom. Windows says Device Descriptor Request Failed. Linux doesn't do anything when hooked up. lsblk doesn't show the device either.
I have a bit of an update. Apparently something happened with all my data cables. I hooked up my wife's phone the other day and I was all of a sudden receiving the same error as the note 5. I went out and bought a new data cable and now her phone connects again. I'm waiting for the Note 5 to charge up so I can try Odin. I'll post back my results.
I apologize to those who told me it was the cable. I just didn't see that it was conceivable that all 4 of my data cables were all of a sudden damaged. Never underestimate the ability of children to destroy every working cable you own.
Well I'm still getting the error. I have some usb cables coming in the mail so once i try those out I'll get back to everyone.

Were you able to fix your issue. I have the same issue. Note 5 N9208, I can get into Recovery (TWRP) and Download mode, but can not boot. The USB connection is showing USB Device Descriptor failed. I have tried 5 different cables and Windows 7/10 Ubuntu and cant get the phone to show up on the PC. I also have changed the USB port of the phone. Any insight would be helpful.

I ended up trying to replace the port and accidentally cut the ribbon for the LCD screen. Ended up getting a new phone.
